This document provides advice for maximizing acceptance into Canadian medical residency programs. It dispels common myths, such as a single factor guaranteeing acceptance or electives being mandatory. Rather, the overall application is considered, including GPA, MCCEE scores, CV, research experience, references, and interview performance. Recommendations are given for each part of the application, such as choosing reference letter writers familiar with the target program. Different factors may be more or less important depending on the specialty and university. Networking to learn about program requirements is also advised to focus one's application.
