Persuasive Essay Prompts
Writing a persuasive essay on the topic of "Persuasive Essay Prompts" might initially seem like a
paradoxical challenge. The intricacies involved in crafting an essay that aims to persuade readers
can be daunting, as it requires a delicate balance of logic, emotion, and rhetorical skill. Selecting
the right prompts to build a compelling argument adds an additional layer of complexity to the
task.
One of the primary challenges lies in the need for thorough research and understanding of the
chosen prompts. A persuasive essay demands a deep dive into the subject matter, requiring the
writer to grasp the nuances of each prompt, analyze potential counterarguments, and construct a
robust stance. The ability to present a well-reasoned argument while anticipating and addressing
opposing viewpoints is crucial for the essay's effectiveness.
Crafting a persuasive essay also demands a keen awareness of the target audience. Identifying
the readership and tailoring the persuasive techniques to resonate with them is a nuanced task.
Striking the right balance between ethos, pathos, and logos is essential to create a persuasive
appeal that captivates and convinces.
Furthermore, the challenge lies not only in presenting a convincing argument but also in
organizing the essay coherently. A well-structured essay with a clear introduction, body
paragraphs supporting the thesis, and a compelling conclusion is vital for making a lasting
impact. Transitioning seamlessly between ideas and maintaining a persuasive tone throughout the
essay adds another layer of difficulty.
The time and effort required to polish the language and refine the rhetoric contribute to the
overall complexity. Persuasive essays demand eloquence and precision in language, ensuring that
every word serves a purpose in advancing the argument. Achieving a persuasive tone without
sounding overly forceful or losing credibility can be a delicate task.
In conclusion, writing a persuasive essay on the topic of "Persuasive Essay Prompts" is
undoubtedly a challenging endeavor. It requires a careful balance of research, rhetorical skill,
audience awareness, and organizational finesse. However, mastering this art can equip
individuals with valuable skills in persuasion and critical thinking.

The Swatch s price strategy was clear, they sold their products at an affordable
price everywhere in the world (in the US: $40, in Switzerland: SFr50, in Germany:
DM60, in Japan: Y7000). What is more important that they didn t change their
price in the first ten years despite their incredible success. Their price strategy
helped their positioning, and helped to communicate their brand message: Swatch
is not just affordable, it s approachable. Buying a Swatch is an easy decision to
make, an easy decision to live with. The Swatch was unique in its advertising
strategy too. They spent 30% of the retail price on advertising which was compared
to the industry average, was more than double. Besides the high profile advertising,
they also used below the line activities, like break dancing sponsorship, celebrity
endorsement, special events, or product placements (for example the Giant Swatch
in Germany). They created a Swatch Collectors Club for their most ardent fans, who
could receive a subscription to the Swatch Street Journal magazine which contained
the latest news, information about Swatch. The Swatch s distribution strategy was
so different from the other watches . They created new approach and ways of
points of purchase. For example The Veggie Swatch line was sold in fruits and
vegetable markets. They didn t sell Swatches in jewelry displays like the others; they

Analysis Of The Movie Training Day
Antoine Fuqua s, Training Day (2001) is an intense movie that follows a rookie
police officer Jake Hoyt (Ethan Hawke), whose dream in life is to become an elite
narcotics agent for the LAPD. But before landing this difficult job, Hoyt must prove
his worth. Enter the ultimate badass, thirteen year veteran Detective Sergeant
Alonzo Harris (Denzel Washington), who accepts to test Hoyts capabilities by
riding with him for a day around the cruel streets of South Central Los Angeles. This
is a crime thriller that depicts a police culture entrenched in corruption and violence.
While Training Day is a great movie, it uses storybook stereotypes of black males
with strong masculinities to portray what seems to me to be a negative representation
of black society in America.
Firstly, a brief background of Early Black cinema is important to note. In 1915 The
Plantation Genre (form of genre) came about with the release of Birth of a Nation an
overtly anti black film, which included three main mythic stereotypes. These included
the unlawful slave who represented black slaves as unpredictable, cunning and
violent; this representation was used as reasoning for whites sustaining control. The
subordinate slave stereotype, which represented blacks as dependable, loving and
accepting of their position; this allowed white audiences to displace any guilt about
slavery. Additionally, there s also what is known as the clown entertainer which
included characteristics of innate humor and the

The Book That Brought A Dream To Life Over the past centuries, texts have been
written about the most unrealistic creatures, from blood sucking vampires and man
eating werewolves up until today s modern superheroes. In many novels written, the
idea of flight has been explored before through creatures, like witches on broomsticks,
which date back to the 15th century. However, not all the books have spurred the
same type of hype as each other overtime. This paper will explore the stylistic
techniques, content, and themes that made James Patterson s Maximum Rideso

Throughout the years, people from all over the world have migrated to Australia and
the United States of America to create better lives for themselves such as escaping
religious/political persecution, obtaining a better education, reuniting with their
families, becoming exposed to more job opportunities, and various other reasons
(Singer 2). Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in America and Sydney, New South Wales in
Australia have similar immigration patterns, settlement trends, and impacts. However,
the communities of immigrants tend to not follow the same behaviors in both cities.
Immigration is vital for continuous economic and social growth. Thus, what impact
does immigration have on these two cities?
In 2011, Australia s population was 26% migrants compared to America s, which was
only 13% ( 4102.0 Australian Social Trends, 2014 ). Migration is essential to
Australia s population; in 2011, over 5 million migrants resided in Australia.
Immigrants from England (over 1 million) and New Zealand (almost half a million)
dominate Australia s migrant community. Australia s migrant population also
includes large numbers of Chinese, Indian, Italian, and Vietnamese immigrants
among many others. On average, most migrants stay in Australia for 20 years. Some
migrants stay longer than others; European immigrants stay for over the average
amount of years meanwhile Chinese and Indian
My Teaching Philosophy Of Teaching For Physical
Education
EPE 100 has not only taught me so much about becoming a teacher but a ton about
myself. Prior to EPE 100, I felt as though I had a solid understanding of what it
meant to be a physical education teacher. Do a quick warm up, Rally the students, put
them into teams, explain the rules and let them go at it. Man oh man was I wrong.
Throughout readings, assignments, and practice I now believe to have a much better
understanding of what it means to be a physical educationteacher. There has been
three major ideas that have begun to influence my teachingphilosophy; Teaching for
physical literacy and skill development not just sports, embracing physical activity
as a lifelong journey and challenging all students inside and outside of the
classroom. These three concepts are very important to me as I begin my teaching
career and are the three highlights in which I took out of EPE 100. It took me a
very poor micro teaching experience to finally understand that physical education
is truly about more than just sports. You learn more from failure, than you do from
success this is a quote that I hear very often from various coaches and teachers. I
think this perfectly sums up my micro teaching experience, while it was not a
completely failure it served as a very important lesson to me. It was not until I was
placed into a teaching situation that I fully realised not everyone is going to excell,
and that one cannot expect the whole class to be able to pick up a sport in one
lesson. Nick
Drinking And Driving
Drinking and driving is not always a right thing. When people drink and drive the
action of it could get extremely dangerous. Wrecks are one of the main problems
that can happen when some people are drunk because some can lose control of what
they are trying to do and end up wrecking. Another problem is driving under the
influenceof being on drugs. This can cause serious damage. When people are on
drugs, they lose train of thought and half of the time, they forget what they are
doing. It does not end too well. People can become abusive because they usually do
not exactly know what they are doing. Usually, people do drugs to get their minds or
to make them feel better when they are emotional, but when others do so much, they
lose control... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unfortunately, some of the money was spent on high school driver education, which
increased teenage driving without reducing the number of crashes per driver, thus
increasing deaths (Robertson 296).When driving while on any kind of drug can
mess up your train in thought. Although people tend to lose what they was thinking
before and everything else, but most of all some forget about the dangerous outcome
that will happen when they are on them. Throughout the year there has been a big
change in the numbers going up on crashes. There are now programs that can help
them so they can get out of everything and all the drugs that you re on (Robertson
295). They have made vast progress: based on random stops, the number of drivers
with any alcohol in their system was 35.9% in 1973. By 2007, the figure had fallen
to 12.4%, according to the Department of Transportation (Gray 54).Police to this
day are still trying to get people to stop drinking and driving and doing drugs and
driving. There has been so many wrecks and people dying over this case. Some
people do not really understand how dangerous it can be and they still continue to
do it. It was becoming to the point police can not really get anyone to understand
even with them being taken into prison (Gray 54). Three published studies have
examined the effects of lowered BAC laws on teenage driving after drinking and
fatal car crash involvement.(n5 n7). Youths are more likely to
Employment Tribunals In Australia
In order to properly address the matter of an employee who is suspected of coming
into work under the influence of illegal drugs, we must ensure that we follow the
businesses disciplinary processes and if the process leads to it, we must ensure that,
the reason for dismissal falls under one or more of the 5 fair reasons under the
Employments Rights Act (1996). These reasons can include: Conduct includes minor
issues such as unauthorised absence to more serious (gross misconduct) issues such
as gross negligence or theft. Capability unable to complete their role to the required

They state that In a wrongful dismissal claim, the employee will not be entitled to
pay in lieu of notice or notice pay at all, as the employee has broken the contract
and cannot therefore rely on it to claim notice pay. With an unfair dismissal claim,
the employer may still be liable to pay compensation depending upon how they
handled the dismissal (CIPD, 2015) The law surrounding unfair dismissal sets out
that an employee must be treated fairly throughout the entire disciplinary process.
As has been set out above good practice in the case of misconduct stems from the
business adhering to the ACAS code of practice, undertaking a full investigation as
well ensuring that the decisions made a proportionate to the offence taking into
consideration the employee s previous record. In comparison dismissal for
capability is deemed to fair if the business has made the employee aware of the
organisations policies and practice and adhered to the ACAS code of practice. We
must also ensure that there are clear objectives in place to give reasonable
opportunity to improved and only, then dismissed following a further formal meeting

independence you must go through when in college. The stress that is will cause a

with it all the way. Some say it s worth the years of studying and some say it s a
waste of time. College is not for everyone but the majority of people think about it at
the end of high school. Their parents are the one pushing their kids towards what
they think is a brighter future. College is a preparation to becoming an adult. That
is why it s very important to take advantage of the free schooling during high school.
Because those classes come in quite handy and you won t have to regret not paying
attention in class. That is why government financial aid should be for student based
on their good merit. The aid is a reward for those who work hard, it will help an

reason we celebrate Black History Month, the annual remembrance of the
achievements of African Americans. She showed the achievements of African

personally enjoy this book because it s about an African Americanwoman traveling
back in time to save her ancestor, a white slave owner. One of her quotes about the
novel was truly inspiring, I wanted to write a novel that would make others feel the
history: the pain and fear that black people have had to live through in order to
endure. In the 1980s, she published the Xenogenesis trilogy. This consisted of
Dawn in 1987, Adulthood Rites in 1988, and Imago in 1989. Afterwards, she
wrote the Parable series. The two books in it are the Parable of the Sower and the

My Service Learning Hours At Asarese Matters Community

This spring semester I had the privilege of completing my service learning hours at
Asarese Matters Community Center. I chose to conduct my hours of service at this
site because I felt like I could relate to the kids that are experiencing a life of poverty
with limited mobility opportunities. Most my time spent there I interacted with a
majority of the kids through basketballand competitive activities like billiards, ping
pong and talking sports. While observing relationships and interactions between staff
and youth that attend the community center I noticed the important role that sport
and education played in the life of the children. Using my sociological imagination,
I would like to explore the role of sport and the interactions and behaviors that takes
place during competitive situations, also the role of education and the kids
perception on going to college and using sport and education as a way of succeeding
and escaping the concentrated poverty of the Buffalo communities. Using the lived
experience that I encountered and knowledge acquired in the past, I will try to piece
together a connection and express how the macro level expectations of a community
to prosper influences the self esteem, behaviors and attitudes among social groups at
the micro level here in the city of Buffalo and at Asarese Matters community center.

Examples Of Binary Opposition In The Hunger Games
Binary opposition is not only a vital concept in linguistics, but it also plays a
significant role in the fields of anthropology, sociology, literature and art as it is
believed that things only mean something in relation to one another, like the ever
existing concept of good and evil. They serve as labels to identifying certain ideas but
what makes them opposites is that fact that they cannot coexist and this creates
boundaries between groups, leading to discrimination, inequality and injustice. This
is very much present in The HungerGames in which two opposite groups are created
based on the same idea of presence and absence (of power) and the weaker group
fears the stronger and ends up obeying whatever the dominant has to say. This not
only creates prejudices, bias and disparity between groups but also leads to the us and
them distinction, where the dominant... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As mentioned in the very first chapter of this study, the type of control that the
Capitol has is technological in nature. From the very beginning of the story, we are
told that it is not safe to talk against the Capitol as they have eyes and ears
everywhere. Katniss Everdeen, the narrator, mentions it that she goes to hunt in
the forest to keep her family from dying and even in the middle of nowhere (Quote
18, line 3), she worries somebody might overhear her (Quote 18, line 4). For this
reason, she explains that she learned (Quote 18, line 7) not to talk about the Capitol
in public and avoid tricky topics such as the reaping, or food shortages or the
Hunger Games (Quote 18, line 11 12). She is so cautious that she tries to turn her
features into an indifferent mask so that no one could ever read her thoughts (Quote
18, line 8). From this example, we can understand how malicious the nature of Capitol

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Appraisal
Archives are well documented extensive records or collected data of historical
documents which are used as tools for critical analysis. Appraisal on the other
hand is the act of estimating or judging the nature or value of something.
Essentially, taking into account the definitions, archival appraisal is looking at all
the available dimensions and variables of a subject, keeping in mind its pros and
cons, its advantages and disadvantages and at the same time assessing the strengths
and weaknesses. It is critically analysing the available literature. The ulterior
motive so to speak is to preserve the documents by adding value, keeping in mind
the various biases and results of other s studies, in order to extend the life of the
archived documents. The concept of appraisal highlights the method of assessing
the documents. The appraisal should be devoid of any sort of partiality. It should
not favour any type of user. The appraisal is not supposed to be objective, not
subjected to any sort of personal beliefs or opinions, nor shall it be based on any
influenced notion.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The archival theory varies from the archival methodology in terms of their usage.
Archival theory suggests what archival material is whereas archival methodology
helps us figuratively decide how to treat the archival documents. When value is
attributed to such archival records or documented data), it should be retained in their
original form. The reason for preserving records and documented data in their original
form can be explained by the fact that when such documents have been attributed
value, they are archivally best accepted in their original form only. Therefore, value of
archival documents does not stand relative. However, the concept of attributing value
to the archival documents is relative since the opinions may vary from one archivist
to another, from one generation to
Canadian Agriculture And Agri Food Industry Essay
Dairy farming is one of the most important sectors of Canadian agriculture. It is
ranked in third place after grains and beef. The countryВґs 12.234 farms recorded
total farm revenue of $5.92 billion in 2013. The 474 dairy plants located all over
the country had estimated sales of $15.7 billion in 2013, accounting for the 16%
of the value of manufactured shipments of food and beverages (Statics of the

I was elated to know that we were going for a vacation with five other families.
That time, I had entered my 7th Year but I can still recall the experience, I had
during my Diwali vacations with my family friends as we visited some thrilling,
exciting and daring places in Sikkim Darjeeling. The eastern parts of India have a

We began by traveling to Delhi and thereafter from Delhi we took a flight to
Bagdogra. We had an exquisite travel to Sikkim by car where we stayed for 2 3
days and went to all the distinctive places of nearby areas. Sikkim is a fairly
compact city which is bordered by Bhutan, Tibet and Nepal and it is a place of
landscape and scenic beauty. The atmosphere of Sikkim was a little bit chilling but
was very calm. In Sikkim, we visited Rumtek Monastery which is ancient Gompa,

Coming close to home I was alone again and there was another girl walking in front

Cold War Space Essay
Introduction
After the ending of the second World War a new conflict had commenced: the Cold
War. This ideological competition placed two superpowers against each other, the
capitalist United States and the communist Soviet Union. This signalled a
transformation of a new age. For the United States government, small increments of
legislation, military power and the implementation of a new space agency into the
political economic system were placed. Space exploration was targeted for the
political economic analysis as they were close interactions between industry,
academic circles, and government. The execution of a fruitful space program needed
huge investments in infrastructure, proficiency and the expectation of high risk. The

It was a war sustained by the political distrust between two nations with polarizing
political ideologies. American politics and society was governed by democracy,
while in the Soviet Union communism ruled the political landscape. The fear for an
all out nuclear war grew imminent and as a response, both countries devised new
ways to retaliate using nuclear weapons. Rockets were developed as a response to
this need.
Before the launch of the Soviet Sputnik satellite in 1957, the United States had
worked towards the same goal. The Eisenhower administration quietly created a
project that involved satellites to orbit around the earth for the sole purpose of
surveillance. The information collected would be used to avoid armed nuclear
conflict with the Soviet Union. Many in the military were convinced that space
could become a place of military battle. Many of these ideas were kept secret from
the public and thus the Soviet s accomplishment created the Sputnik crisis.
Ultimately Eisenhower was forced to respond with the launch of Explorer 1. By
early 1958 the administration s space advisor James Killian created new civil space
agency called the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA). Its mission
was to control non military missions for space exploration. On October 1, 1958,
NACA was disbanded, and transformed into the National Aeronautics and Space

The s Mini Research Paper Essay
Santa Iglesia Advanced English 1, Per. 7 14 November 2016 OMS Mini Research
Paper The word man has a very simple definition: an adult male ( The Definition ).
However, there are many symbols and meanings being it. A Native American
picture known as Man in a Maze, originally called I itoi, depicts a man standing at
the entrance of a maze. At the center is the man s dreams where God greets him
and passes him into the next world. The center is not easy to reach, for there are
many twists and turns in the maze itself. The maze symbolizes life and the
difficulties man has to go through to reach the end and move on. In this instance
man is naive, but represents strength, and must go through the challenges faced
through existence in order to find the way to the finish ( The Symbol ). Another
simple, yet very complex word beyond its basic definition, is old . The book
definition of old is to have existed for a long time ( I Found ). The word old is
associated with wisdom because a lot of experience is thought to be gained during
long periods of time. When combining the two words, old and man, a new and very
intricate symbol is made. Old man symbolizes wisdom of humanity and the power
of great knowledge. The phrase old man is also associated with high status and
special powers because with great wisdom comes significant respect from less
experienced individuals (Cirlot). Joe DiMaggio was a famous baseball player for the
Yankees and was nicknamed Yankee Clipper who
The Etiology Of The Disorder Essay
Describe the etiology of the disorder. Bipolar Disorders are considered complex
because of the episodes that are experienced. They include dysfunctional mood,
potentially including major depressive episodes, mild to moderate depressive
episodes, manic episodes, hypomanic episodes, and mixed episodes, which are often
separated by periods of relatively normal mood. (BDII). There are two types of
Bipolar Disorders that I will cover in this paper. They include Bipolar I disorder (BP
I) and Bipolar II disorder (BD II).According to the Epidemiologic Catchment Area
Study, as cited by Kleinman, Lowin, Flood, Gandhi, Edgell, and Revicki (2003),
the lifetime prevalence by race and ethnicity for BD I and BD II, are as follows:
Caucasian 0.8% and 0.4%, African American 1.0% and 0.6%, and Hispanic 0.7%
and 0.5%.. Lifetime prevalence rate for Bipolar I is 0.6%and bipolar II it is 0.3%
over a 12 month period (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). People who
have Bipolar I disorder typically experience alternating episodes of depression and
mania where there is a separation of some level of normalcy in the sequence
(American Psychiatric Association, 2013). For example, they might be depressed
for 4 days feel normal for a couple of days than go into a manic episode. On the other
hand, those with Bipolar II disorder they only experience depressive episodes and
will not have an episode of mania. Describe the diagnostic features of the disorder.

The Negro Digs Up His Past Essay
I analyzed the ideological connection between Arthur Schomburg s essay, The
Negro Digs up His Past and an excerpt from W.E.B. Du Bois s The Souls of Black
Folk. Both essays depict the struggles African Americans faced, but also attempt to
inspire African Americans to see beyond their struggles and establish their
identities in America. Both essays begin by stating the issues that African
Americans are facing at that time. Du Bois reflects on the way people viewed
African Americans as problems and how that affected one s own self awareness,
regardless of what they previously thought. Constantly feeling like a problem and
constantly being reminded of it elicits a lack of self worth. Du Bois says, That sky
was bluest when I could beat my mates at examination time, or beat them at a foot
race, or even beat their stingy heads. Alas, with the years all this fine contempt
began to fade; for the worlds I longed for, and all their dazzling... Show more content

Both come together to fulfill goals set in Defining Black Identity in 21st Century
America by Ewauare Osayande. The first two motivate and inspire African Americans
to be proud of themselves, how far they have come, and the effort they have taken
into pioneering society. The main objective Osayande wants to convey is to establish
an identity while resisting dehumanization and power against them (Osayande 6). Du
Bois s essay describes the feeling of a double consciousness (Du Bois 11). This helps
establish the unique identity that Osayande wanted to accomplish. One can mix
together the African culture with the American culture and create something unique.
Schomburg s idea of revisiting history and what ancestors experienced will also help
accomplish that goal. His essay discusses the immensely appreciated initiative taken
in the past that serves as a prideful accomplishment to help African Americans realize
their potential
Analysis of Music Video Essay
Analysis of Music Video
Aphex Twin Come to Daddy
This Aphex Twin video is certainly one of the most dissimilar music videos that I
have studied. It intertwines elements of different genres, to create a video so different
to reality; it shocked the nation when released. The director, Chris Cunningham,
wanted to make an impact with this video which he did with great style and
distinction.
Story/Narrative
The video starts with quite a gentle and sombre feel to it, where you see an old
woman walking her dog. The dog however is not the small, yappy dog you would
expect a old lady to own. On the contrary, it is big and looks rather aggressive. This
could be a subtle tie in with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the video nears an end the face in the television finally becomes flesh and steps
out. He is portrayed as a monster, evil by nature and hideous to look at. The sort of
fiend that is often seen in horror movies. The monster then screams at the old lady,
which gives the audience a sense of revulsion as this seems evil to them. You are
shown the girls vandalising the city once more before the video ends.
The message that is possibly trying to be displayed is that television is evil. It turns
people into similar beings, and gives them ideas of violence and destruction. This is
portrayed when the girls with the same faces are terrorising the neighbourhood. The
man coming out of the television shows the evil that can be broadcasted across
television networks.
Representation
The man that comes out of the television is being represented as rebellious, evil,
nasty, scary and dangerous. There are also elements of unusualness, and he comes
across as quite psychotic. Just by looking at him you can tell that he is monstrous,
and is giving this message across. I think that the television can also be seen as
representation, because the monster comes out of it. I believe that the video is
trying to tell us that television spawns evil, and is thus the centre of malevolence.
The old woman is being portrayed as the innocence of people, in my mind. When
you see an old woman, you

Afro-Latinos in NYC
Afro Latino in New York City
Growing up in New York City is a very unique experience. You grow up surrounded
by a diverse population of people packed tightly into one city. But with this kind of
diversity come the questions of self identification and how others view you. I was
born and raised in the upper Manhattan neighborhood of Washington Heights which is
known for its mostly Dominican population. Moreover, growing up in the public
school system and everyday New York living has exposed me to many different
Latino and Black communities and culture. I have experienced racism; I have
experienced the implementation of hegemonic ideals and I have been exposed to
poverty. Even after all the civil rights movements and activism that have ... Show

This has always made me debate race because in the eyes of others race is skin
color, hair, eyes. Race is what people see and becomes less and less about what
your background is. Living in New York City you would think people would be
more open minded. Recently, I was walking into a downtown nightclub with about
four other Spanish females when we over hear a, I m assuming, White female
telling the security we just walked passed How dare you let in these minorities
before me?! It was just a reminder that even though we ve progressed in terms of
racial equality there still exists an ignorant population.
Another link that I find interesting among the Afro Latino communities of New York
City is that racially discriminated races are pushed into poverty. Philippe Bourgois
writes about New York City during the crack epidemic of the 1980s. He explains
through cultural reproduction theory that although it may seem that inner city
residents appeared to live in a community astray from the mainstream ideals they
actually held similar values such as the drive to achieve the American dream. He
describes the inner city as a culture of resistance that intends to accomplish its goal of
success through the refusal of being stepped on by the white man. The form of
upward mobility that this culture seeks is usually achieved by

Those who attended would become the leaders of AI research for decades. Many of
them predicted that a machine as intelligent as a human being would exist in no more
than a generation and they were given millions of dollars to make this vision come
true. Eventually it became obvious that they had grossly underestimated the difficulty
of the project. In 1973, in response to the criticism of Sir James Lighthill and
ongoing pressure from congress, the U.S. and British Governments stopped funding
undirected research into artificial intelligence. Seven years later, a visionary initiative
by the Japanese Government inspired governments and industry to provide AI with
billions of dollars, but by the late 80s the investors became disillusioned and
withdrew funding again. This cycle of boom and bust, of AI winters and summers,
continues to haunt the field. Undaunted, there are those who make extraordinary
predictions even now. Progress in AI has continued, despite the rise and fall of its
reputation in the eyes of government bureaucrats and venture capitalists. Problems
that had begun to seem impossible in 1970 have been solved and the solutions are
now used in successful commercial products. However, no machine has been built
with a human level of intelligence, contrary to the optimistic predictions of the first
generation of AI researchers. We can only see a short distance ahead, admitted Alan

With a loud screech and a grinding of metal, the thick steel door swung open

narrow path to another door. This entrance was much like the first, but the outside

As soon as it was fully closed, lights spaced evenly across the carved rock walls,

second door. After pressing the red button, he slipped through... Show more content

Essay on The Myth of Sisyphus
Albert Camus The Myth of Sisyphus is not simply a re telling of the myth itself,
but also an interpretation of the way in which the myth can be related to the life of
humanity in general, and in particular to one s understanding and acceptance of the
futility of life, which he does not consider to be negative per se. He looks at the
nature of Sisyphus character, the way in which he challenged and defied the gods,
and the punishment he received as a result. However, he does not look at Sisyphus
fate as something which defines the gods as victorious and Sisyphus as subjugated to
their will, primarily because of the way in which Sisyphus himself perceives his
condition.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is, of course, a matter of pride amongst the gods that a mere human cannot defeat
them, either by strength or trickery, and therefore they are, by their own natures,
obliged to find ways to gain revenge on Sisyphus for his audacity. Sisyphus is
successful in spending some time in the land of the living, and evading the wrath
of the gods, but eventually, the courier of the gods, Mercury, forces him to return
and his punishment is decided. He is condemned to roll a heavy rock uphill for all
eternity, and each time he reaches the top of the slope, the rock rolls back down
again and he is obliged to start all over again. The punishment is, as Camus says, `that
unspeakable penalty in which the whole being is exerted towards accomplishing
nothing . Since it is in human nature to expect success as a result of effort and hard
work, to be obliged to carry out the effort knowing that there will be no reward, no
achievement, is a harsh punishment indeed. Sisyphus has no choice but to continue
pushing the rock uphill, watching it return, pushing it again, knowing all the time
that however much effort he puts into the task, it will in the end avail him nothing.
Camus goes on to point out that there is no detailed description of Sisyphus in the
underworld, since myths are the framework for the imagination. It is up to human
beings to `breathe life into the basic parameters of the

Awareness of the business need to change is a critical ingredient of any change and
must come first. If someone had taken the time to explain that the old software
would no longer be supported by the vendor, and that new software was necessary
to meet the needs of your customers, then your reaction (based on this awareness)
would likely be very different: * How soon will this happen? * How will this

Assume you were made aware that a change was required, but you had no desire to

Unilateral Vocal Fold Paralysis ( Uvfp )
Unilateral Vocal Fold Paralysis
Heather Newberg
Jacksonville University
INTRODUCTION
Unilateral vocal fold paralysis (UVFP) is the complete immobility of one vocal fold.
According to Sapienza and Ruddy (2013), 90% of vocal fold paralysis that occurs is
unilateral and caused by damage to the peripheral nervous system (p. 189). Vocal fold
paralysis is typically considered a symptom of a disease or neurologic disruption. In
one study, it was found that vocal fold paralysis was caused by surgical trauma,
tumors or neoplasms, unknown or idiopathic factors, trauma, central nervous system
dysfunction, radiation, inflammatory, cardiovascular, and other causes (Chen, Jen,
Wang, Lee, Lin, 2007). Symptoms of unilateral vocal fold paralysis may include:
aphonia, abnormal vocal quality (breathy, hoarse, and/or strained), and dysphagia.
Onset of UVFP may be life altering as the individual has to find compensatory
strategies for voicing or even alternative methods of communication. The individual
is also left susceptible to aspiration due to the lack of airway protection. These factors
make it critical to diagnose the impairment so as to provide the appropriate treatment.
DIAGNOSIS
Vocal fold paralysis is diagnosed by an otolaryngologist through the use of
endoscopy, laryngostroboscopy, and laryngeal electromyography. Two types of
endoscopes may be used to visualize the vocal folds. One type is a rigid endoscope
that is placed in the back of the oral cavity with a camera pointing down
The Illuminati and the New World Order Conspiracy Essay
The Illuminati is a secret society that was established in the late 18th century. Not
long after it was created, it was supposedly abolished completely. However, many
people believe that the Illuminati still exists today. While the Illuminati is an
exceedingly broad topic with many conspiracies involved, the supposed actions of the
modern day Illuminati and the New World Order conspiracy theory are the main
topics.
Whether someone believes the Illuminati exists today or not does not change the fact
that the Illuminati did, in fact, exist in the late 18th century. The Illuminati, a secret
society, was founded in 1776 by Adam Weishaupt ( The Illuminati par. 1). Adam

Quite a few people believe that, contrary to what historians say, the Illuminati still
exists today in a stronger form. According to the Illuminati, the Napoleonic Wars
were caused by the Illuminati even though, by this time in history, they were
supposedly non existent ( History of the Illuminati par. 3). Other areas that people say
the Illuminati affects or controls today might include: music, world banking,
economy, the United Nations, and even the United States itself. The Illuminati tactic
is to divide and conquer by supplying arms and money to both sides and instigating
people to fight and kill each other in order to be able to achieve their objectives ( The
Illuminati Cult par. 3). According to this source, the Illuminati gives reason to attack
another country or group by causing some sort of catastrophic event and then giving

Les Miserable Scene Analysis
The scene that I have chosen to apply my learning in this term to, as well as
specifically analyze, is the 2012 Universal and Working Title Films production of
the movie musical Les MisГ©rables, directed by Tom Hooper. This musical
focuses on the lives of several characters in France during the early 1800 s; Jean
Valjean is an ex convict who breaks parole to start a new life, Javert is the chief of
police dedicated to upholding the law, Fantine is a single mother who turns to
prostitution as a way to provide for her child Cosette, and more. The scene I am
fixated on details Fantine in the wake of losing her job and realizing she needs to
make money to support her child. This scene is impactful and striking because of its
dealing with the topic of prostitution and unemployment, as well as being a pivotal
part of the film dramatically with live singing and superb acting. The scene is also a
pristine example of multiple film techniques such as close up camera shots, setting,
lighting, actors, singing, and sounds in general. To briefly summarize the scene, I
will start with some basic background information on the main character during this
specific time in the film. Fantine is a single mother who is working at a tailoring
house with many other women, until she is thrown out onto the street. She is thrown
out because her fellow female tailors, and male boss (who was a bit more than
friendly) found out Fantine had a daughter and thought she could bring only trouble.

Apollo s Oracle
Within the order of the Ancient Greek cosmos there are gods, humans and nature
with the gods being one extreme of rationality and nature at the other end of
irrationality. Humans fit somewhere in the middle, a very unique place. The
humans have an abbreviated form of the gods rationale as well as their command
over nature with respect to agriculture and livestock. With that being said, humans
are always looking to raise themselves as close to the immortal class as possible.
One way they are able to do this is by means of the Oracles; they allow themselves
to be close to Apollo and by extension, Zeus. The insight of Apollo s oracle gives
humans somewhat of a godly knowledge, which, as discussed, doesn t always work
out in favour of the human.

As you know, our Web site has an SCR Services link where we list our four corporate
units and their goals: the Systems Support Group, the Network/Web Group, the
Business Solutions Group, and the Project Management Group.
Now, we would like to add a fifth unit to highlight the new training group. Take a
look at the other four areas, then draft a brief statement that will describe the
Training Group s goals. Try to use a style that will be consistent with the existing
material. I d like to see your draft as soon as possible so we can get it approved and
added to the site.
Also, on another subject entirely, I d like your view on whether or not SCR needs a
systems review committee. We seem to have gotten along fairly well without one up
until now, but some people think it would be wise to have a review committee
approach as SCR grows and becomes more diverse. Tell me what you think and why.
Thanks.

Holden Caulfield Selfish
What really knocks me out is a book that, when you re all done reading it, you wish
the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on
the phone whenever your felt like it. (pg 25) J.D. Salinger writes in his book, The
Catcher in the Rye . However, what makes this quote so interesting in this novel is
that, for many people over the past 60 years, J.D. Salinger is that author to them
when they read his novel. To everyone who has read the book; the main character,
Holden Caulfield, is a character we can relate to on a spiritual level. Anyone can
understand Holden s thoughts and actions because the character talks directly to the
reader. Unlike some other stories, when reading The Catcher in the Rye , the reader
doesn t feel like a third party, but rather more of a close friend accompanying the
character. Unintentionally, we converse with J.D. Salinger through the story, and
slowly understand what his thoughts and feelings are. It s a powerful book, and it s
owed to how J.D. Salinger developed the characters, and... Show more content on

For many, this is the age between Childhood and adulthood. For Holden, these
years are the most frightening time of his life. Holden doesn t want to face the
responsibilities and fake ness of the world of adulthood. From any age range, a
reader can empathize on what Holden is feeling, for we are either going through it
or have already passed it. These thoughts become especially evident when Holden
says: The best thing, though, in that museum was that everything always stayed
right where it was. Nobody d move. (pg 157) describing the stillness of museum
displays. Holden rambles on about this for a while, and it becomes clear that
Holden doesn t just like the displays just because they stay still, it s because they re
stuck in time, and never have to continue on to see the future. For Holden, that would
be a dream come
Definition Of Fear Essay
What is fear? Fear is something everyone should overcome. It is something that
scares people out of their socks. For me fear was not such a big thing. I wasn t scared
of a lot of things, but one fear I have is the fear of big bugs. I was always scared of
big bugs. Last year, I went to a cabin with my family and friends during Labor Day.
When we got there we started unpacking and I went to the sink to wash my hands.
When I was about to turn on the faucet, I saw a big centipede and I shrieked. I ran
to my parents and told them, but when they came to the sink it was gone. That
whole time when I was in the cabin I was terrified and I always looked out for
centipedes. I know that it is possible to overcome my fearof big bugs but I am not
ready now. Although, one day I am going to overcome that fear. Fear can only stop
people from excelling in life. Don t let one fear stop you from achieving something
great.
Sometimes people are scared because they re different. These days, many people don
t realize how much magic there is when being themself. They want to fit in, when
they were born to stand out. They don t realize that everyone is ... Show more content

Laughter is the most important trait of humans. When people laugh it creates a
joyful environment. It makes our days better. Laughter also can form a sense of
well being and can temporarily relieve pain. I love to laugh. It makes me feel
better. The person who has the most memorable laugh is my dad. I feel that
laughter is contagious because when someone starts laughing everybody starts.
For me, a lot of things make me laugh. For example, jokes make me laugh, funny
stories make me laugh, memes make me laugh, and vines make me laugh. For me,
going a week without laughing is impossible. That week would be the saddest
week of my life. I ve heard laughter is the best medicine and I believe it is. It makes
all bad things turn good. It brightens up our day. Thank god there is a such thing as
Roy Davidson s Death Of Pain
Roy Davidson was thirty one years old when he went to his doctor complaining of
intense pain in his stomach. He was told that he had a severe case of bleeding
ulcers and that surgery would only complicate the condition, causing extensive
damage. Roy had to live with the pain. He slept with it, ate with it, worked with it,
and changed his life to revolve around the ulcers. Eventually, quitting his job, he
decided to go on a mission trip in Haiti. While in Haiti, Roy experienced the worst
pain he had felt since receiving his diagnosis. The ulcers were so bad that he was
not able to go to the worksite. His companions on the trip offered their prayers to
Roy, but he declined, thinking that their simple prayers would not be enough to

Humans are wrong about a lot of the things. Roy was wrong when he dismissed the
power of prayer. In Kathryn Schulz s Being Wrong, she remarks that the scientific
field is littered with discarded theories (9); the earth is not the center of the
universe and nor is it flat. People are not always who we think they are and, despite
some believing it to be impossible, sometimes the underdog prevails. There is an
abundance of doubt and error to be encountered everyday. However, there are a few
things that we are able to know with our whole being. Believing in something greater
than the human race is something that Schulz s wrongology cannot touch. It is
evident to many, like Roy and myself, that God s healing power is a whole hearted,
honest truth. Part of having faith is that you are able to believe in God without doubt,
even when others do not. Although there is skepticism and disbelief by strangers,
close friends, or even your own family, this belief must be strong enough that you can
follow Him without needing the approval of other people.
Facing the shortcomings of our own beliefs is something that Schulz preaches
throughout Being Wrong. Knowing that something is true with complete faith, like
the way that I believe in God, is not a feat that is easily accomplished. Faith can be
instilled, but it must be something that eventually becomes self evident. I was
Effect of Technology on Modern Society Essay
The evolution of technology has changed society in both positive and negative
ways. People all over the world use and benefit from modern technology.
Technology has simplified the access to many tools people need in education,
medicine, communication, transportation, etc. However, using it too often has its
drawbacks as well. In most cases, the time of finishing projects is cut by more than
half with the help of technology. Many people do not realize that technology has its
negative affects society as well, and its rapid advances has changed life for worse in
a number of different ways. Technology has changed the relationships of families.

Also, students today can talk with their teachers from home, and learn all the
information from the Internet and finish a research assignment that used to take
days because of books, in a matter of hours. But, students of the newer generations
seem to have many problems with writing complete sentences or spelling words
because of the frequent usage of text messages and the many hundreds of
acronyms used to shorten texts. But besides memory problems, technology usage
can cause serious diseases as well. Health problems caused by technology have
turned into a big problem, especially among teenagers. People, especially teens, pay
a high price for relying on social media, video games, and TV, especially when it
comes to sleep. The internet has become an addiction, we need it like we need air
to breathe. This addiction seems to be the cause of several serious health problems
such as sleep deprivation, vision problems, obesity, etc. Addiction to technology has
also made people lazy. Instead of going outside, playing sports and running around,
they would rather stare at a screen, inside and the only exercise they get is sitting up
in their chair and walking to the fridge for food. Even though the implementation of
robots has reduced the risk to human life because they can perform some risky jobs
instead of humans, robots themselves can create risky

Are Solar Roadways the future?
In the beginning Scott and Julie Brusaw became open on the subject for creating
solar powered LED roadways, they have encountered an endless amount of doubt
and even outright aggression. The reaction was obviously expected given how new
this sort of technology is. Not only is it new, but it would quite difficult to execute
the dream of electrifying roads and highways with reinforced solar panels. Some
questioned question if whether or not solar roadways are even necessary. However,
the most important company that governs American roads was willing to at least
give the idea a shot. Although the idea of solar roadways does sound amazing has

The LEDs can also be programmed to move along with cars at the speed limit,
warning drivers instantly when they are driving too fast. The LEDs will also be
used to paint words right into the road, warning drivers of an animal on the road, a
detour ahead, an accident, or construction work. Central control stations will be able
to instantly customize the lines and words in real time, alleviating traffic congestion
and making the roads more efficient as well as safer. Cities and towns will be able
to customize the lines for roads and parking spaces to meet their own unique needs.

Currently, the city puts out orange cones to remark the parking places and block off

Analysis Of A Lesson Before Dying By Ernest J. Gaines
In the book, A Lesson Before Dying , by Ernest J. Gaines tells a story that is set
during the late 1930 s. The story is fixated on the interaction between Jefferson, a
young and literate African American man, who is sentenced to death for an
inequitable crime, and Grant Wiggins, a teacher that wants to help Jefferson, and
along the way the two create a bond. The story is told through the view of Wiggins.
The main focus in this book was Grant and Jefferson s relationship to transform each
man throughout the story and they learn a lesson on human dignity. The most
character is Jefferson s attorney, he was the reason that of Jefferson loss of dignity
and self respect. Jefferson s attorney is the symbol of society s racism due to him

During that time frame, if you were colored and ended up in a court room you

Prescription Opioid Effects
Every individual, more or less, has had a type of surgery, whether it was major or
minor, and gone through excruciating pain. With that pain comes pills; Codeine,
Percocet, Vicodin, the usual works. The scary part about all of these drugs aren t
the surgeries you have in order to receive them, it s the fact that anyone can get
these drugs, they don t even need to have surgery or an existing medical condition.
Many people I know on a close, personal level have told me that they have gotten
drugs or had a friend who has gotten drugs via some guy or a family friend who
happens to be a doctor that fraudulently signed over a prescription. Not only is this
illegal, but it s terrifying knowing that this is going on right in front of our eyes, but...

We know, of course, that this is not the case and their recreational activities will
cause more harm than good for everybody, themselves, their families and first care
responders. Easy access to these prescription drugs is becoming so out of hand
that individuals that are actually in need of specific drugs now must go through
hours upon hours of testing to see if they are being truthful or just trying to sneak a
fast one past their medical providers for their own selfish benefit, whether it is to
misuse the drugs themselves or to illegally sell them to others. According to the
American Heart Association, even non steroidal anti inflammatory Drugs
(NSAIDs), including commonly used painkillers such as ibuprofen, can trigger or
worsen heart failure by causing sodium and fluid retention and making diuretic
medications less effective (AHA, 2016). Not many people know what these drugs
do besides alleviate their pain at times, so without this knowledge, it s no wonder
these painkillers and other prescription drugs are being so misused and abused by
today s population. In the event that someone had overdosed on said drug and had no
known previous medical history that involved interactions with it, it puts the first care
responder in an uncertain and dangerous situation that could jeopardize the victim s
life when it all could have been avoided. Now,

Sr. s net wealth in today s dollars. Mr. Rockefeller built his fortune through the oil
industry. He founded the Standard Oil Company, which owned about 90% of
American refineries and pipelines. Although John D. Rockefeller, Sr. is arguably
the richest man in United States history, he was also a deeply despised man.
According to PBS s video on the Rockefellers, he kept a revolver near his bedside
because of death and kidnapping threats he and his family received. These threats
were mainly due to the fact that a substantial amount of Americans viewed Mr.
Rockefeller as a Robber Baron, or someone who is evil, greedy, corrupt, and
exploits workers to become extremely wealthy. The term Robber Baron coincides
with a greedy, poor, and progressive time in American history that took place after
the Civil War and the Reconstruction. It was the Gilded Age (Chernow 226 227,
Deane, and O Donnell). The Civil War ended in 1865, and the United States,
especially the South, was in shambles. The federal government tried to repair the
damage in the South and restore the Southern states to the Union. This unsuccessful
attempt, which lasted from 1865 1877, was called the Reconstruction. Shortly after,
the Gilded Age began. Mark Twain was one of the first people to title this era, which
spanned from the late 19th century to the turn of the 20th century. Twain uses this

Korean War On North Korea
Korean war affected almost millions of people in Korea. Other people s inhumane
actions due to their greed and manipulating their power caused unjustified deaths.
Those deaths odes not worth any a penny they gained after the war. A person s life

resources. The Korean Warnot only affected both South and North Koreabut it also
affected many countries all over the world, especially, America. Since America
played a big role in Korean War because they are supporting South Koreafrom the

In order to understand the true significance of Korean War , one must learn the

Difference Between Presupposition And Entailment
Introduction:
Presupposition and entailment are two phenomenons in the field of semantics in
which speakers assume that particular information is already known by their
listeners. Presupposition defined in The Cambridge Encyclopedia of Language is,
The information that a speaker assumes to be already known.
Presuppositions are therefore implicit assumptions about the background beliefs and
scenarios made by the speaker to be mutually known by the addressee. For example,
The World War has ended.
This utterance implies two things. Firstly, there was a World War. Secondly, it has
now ended.
Have you stopped playing piano?
This example presupposes that the person referred to in the question once played the
piano.
Types of presupposition: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In counterfactual it is not only a false or non factive statement but it is also far from
the reality. Or it s only a wish or dream that may never come true. Example,
If I was rich I would have booked a room in Burj khalifa.
It presupposes that the subject wishes to be rich and then be able to book a room in
Burj Khalifa.
Difference between Entailment and Presupposition:
Entailment and Presupposition are two very closely related terms however there is a
very distinct difference between them. Entailment is a relationship between two
sentences, where the truth of one implies the truth of the other. The difference
between the two terms can be suggested as such that, negation of a sentence does not
change its presuppositions whereas, the negation of a sentence changes the
entailment. For example,
I want to take a dance class again.
I don t want to take a dance class again.
Presupposition: Both the sentences presuppose that the subject has already taken a
dance class before.
Entailment: First sentence entails that the subject is willing again to take a dance
class. While the second sentence entails that now the subject has taken it before he
/she does not want to take it
My Mother And Mother
My mother was my primary caregiver throughout all of my childhood. While my
father was in the picture for a majority of my childhood, he was also a severe
alcoholic which greatly impacted my upbringing. My rules, obligations, and
expectations were not always set in stone and did often depend on the time, situation,
and/or mood of my parents. I think it is normal for parents to differ slightly in their
parentingstyles occasionally. As a young kid I remember my sister and I being very
aware that the mood my motherwas in greatly contributed to the outcome of a
question or event. I think most, if not all of us can relate to this. Overall however, I
would say that my mother had an authoritative parenting style. My mother made is
very clear that she was the parentand in charge, however she was welcoming and
understanding enough that I felt comfortable coming to her with questions or
problems. My mom was also very encouraging and supportive. She always pushed
me to do my best but never made me feel bad if I did not reach my goals. I was
lucky to have such a great relationship with my mom, not everyone does. As a
young teenager I had many friends who would come to me with questions and
concerns because they knew my mom was so open minded and understanding. My
mom was always my parent first and my friend second. I knew what was expected of
me and I was disciplined for bad behavior, however I always knew I could go to her
with anything I needed.
My father, like many addicts was
The Rent On Their Honest Tenants
the rent on their honest tenants. 12C Moreover, the estimates do not take into
consideration the secondary cost to society. 12D Critics perceive, aid to counsel
will cause frivolous lawsuits in an already overly litigious society. 33 The impact
from this cost can harm landlords bottom line affecting their chances from receiving
loans from banks and access to credit. 34
There are possibilities for a frivolous lawsuit, but the severity of the housing crisis
trumps frivolous lawsuits that are unlikely to make it to trial. The proponents of the
frivolous lawsuit argument are similar to the voting ID argument. It is unfounded
that voting ID fraud is rampant, however, the chances of this happening is less than
1%. 32 One percent is a nominal figure that does not raise a situation to code red and
allows for the disenfranchisement of whole sections of voters. Similarly, the
possibility of a nominal number of frivolous lawsuits brought by indigent litigants
should not disenfranchise the right to representation in housing court. Most
importantly, there safeguards and screening put in place to reduce the chances of
frivolous lawsuits. For example, attorneys must listen and evaluate a case using their
legal knowledge to determine if a case is meritless or not. In addition, the court and
the judge must examine the case and can make a determination if the case is
meritless or not. Moreover, landlords bring eviction cases, not tenants.35 Therefore,
indigent litigants cannot increase
Concerning The Bodyguard Essay
A bodyguard has the distinct purpose to provide security, to guard, and to protect. A
bodyguard must be vigilant at all times, even when there does not appear to be a
need for security. When a bodyguard is protecting a person his principal everything
around the principal becomes a potential threat, including the bodyguard himself. This
is what Donald Barthelme depicts so seamlessly in his story Concerning the
Bodyguard with a surplus of questions. Through this story told as a questionnaire,
Barthelme allows doubt to soak into every questionand every word, creating an
atmosphere of suspense and obscurity. This effective writing style, portrayed in how
Donald Barthelme utilizes his questions from the viewpoint of the bodyguard,

Donald Barthelme leaves all questions unanswered and the ending a mystery. Yet,
with patience and personal interpretation, the reader can answer the questions and
propose a solution for the conclusion. Without this type of layout, the significance of
the champagne would not have been prominently known. The champagne symbolizes
both celebration and death, and the questions surrounding it only enhance the
champagne s meaning. This effective writing style provokes the reader to be attentive
throughout the entire story so that they may attempt to answer the story s questions.
One must think for oneself while also envisioning what the person asking the
questions is thinking. The thrill and doubt the bodyguard feels transfers into the
reader because of the question layout Barthelme uses for Concerning the Bodyguard.
This creates unity between the reader, the narrator, and the writer, and that is a trait
to be envied in all

Essay On Morris In Vietnam
Morris, the protagonist of vietnam by Chris Lynch and I are alike in many ways.
We both share the same view of the world, are viewed by the world in similar ways

Persuasive Essay Prompts.pdf

  • 1. Persuasive Essay Prompts Writing a persuasive essay on the topic of "Persuasive Essay Prompts" might initially seem like a paradoxical challenge. The intricacies involved in crafting an essay that aims to persuade readers can be daunting, as it requires a delicate balance of logic, emotion, and rhetorical skill. Selecting the right prompts to build a compelling argument adds an additional layer of complexity to the task. One of the primary challenges lies in the need for thorough research and understanding of the chosen prompts. A persuasive essay demands a deep dive into the subject matter, requiring the writer to grasp the nuances of each prompt, analyze potential counterarguments, and construct a robust stance. The ability to present a well-reasoned argument while anticipating and addressing opposing viewpoints is crucial for the essay's effectiveness. Crafting a persuasive essay also demands a keen awareness of the target audience. Identifying the readership and tailoring the persuasive techniques to resonate with them is a nuanced task. Striking the right balance between ethos, pathos, and logos is essential to create a persuasive appeal that captivates and convinces. Furthermore, the challenge lies not only in presenting a convincing argument but also in organizing the essay coherently. A well-structured essay with a clear introduction, body paragraphs supporting the thesis, and a compelling conclusion is vital for making a lasting impact. Transitioning seamlessly between ideas and maintaining a persuasive tone throughout the essay adds another layer of difficulty. The time and effort required to polish the language and refine the rhetoric contribute to the overall complexity. Persuasive essays demand eloquence and precision in language, ensuring that every word serves a purpose in advancing the argument. Achieving a persuasive tone without sounding overly forceful or losing credibility can be a delicate task. In conclusion, writing a persuasive essay on the topic of "Persuasive Essay Prompts" is undoubtedly a challenging endeavor. It requires a careful balance of research, rhetorical skill, audience awareness, and organizational finesse. However, mastering this art can equip individuals with valuable skills in persuasion and critical thinking. • 2. The Birth of Swatch Case Analysing | | | | | | |The birth of the Swatch | |Harvard Business Case | |... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Swatch s price strategy was clear, they sold their products at an affordable price everywhere in the world (in the US: $40, in Switzerland: SFr50, in Germany: DM60, in Japan: Y7000). What is more important that they didn t change their price in the first ten years despite their incredible success. Their price strategy helped their positioning, and helped to communicate their brand message: Swatch is not just affordable, it s approachable. Buying a Swatch is an easy decision to make, an easy decision to live with. The Swatch was unique in its advertising strategy too. They spent 30% of the retail price on advertising which was compared to the industry average, was more than double. Besides the high profile advertising, they also used below the line activities, like break dancing sponsorship, celebrity endorsement, special events, or product placements (for example the Giant Swatch in Germany). They created a Swatch Collectors Club for their most ardent fans, who could receive a subscription to the Swatch Street Journal magazine which contained the latest news, information about Swatch. The Swatch s distribution strategy was so different from the other watches . They created new approach and ways of points of purchase. For example The Veggie Swatch line was sold in fruits and vegetable markets. They didn t sell Swatches in jewelry displays like the others; they preferred
  • 3. Analysis Of The Movie Training Day Antoine Fuqua s, Training Day (2001) is an intense movie that follows a rookie police officer Jake Hoyt (Ethan Hawke), whose dream in life is to become an elite narcotics agent for the LAPD. But before landing this difficult job, Hoyt must prove his worth. Enter the ultimate badass, thirteen year veteran Detective Sergeant Alonzo Harris (Denzel Washington), who accepts to test Hoyts capabilities by riding with him for a day around the cruel streets of South Central Los Angeles. This is a crime thriller that depicts a police culture entrenched in corruption and violence. While Training Day is a great movie, it uses storybook stereotypes of black males with strong masculinities to portray what seems to me to be a negative representation of black society in America. Firstly, a brief background of Early Black cinema is important to note. In 1915 The Plantation Genre (form of genre) came about with the release of Birth of a Nation an overtly anti black film, which included three main mythic stereotypes. These included the unlawful slave who represented black slaves as unpredictable, cunning and violent; this representation was used as reasoning for whites sustaining control. The subordinate slave stereotype, which represented blacks as dependable, loving and accepting of their position; this allowed white audiences to displace any guilt about slavery. Additionally, there s also what is known as the clown entertainer which included characteristics of innate humor and the

  • 5. James Patterson The Book That Brought A Dream To Life Over the past centuries, texts have been written about the most unrealistic creatures, from blood sucking vampires and man eating werewolves up until today s modern superheroes. In many novels written, the idea of flight has been explored before through creatures, like witches on broomsticks, which date back to the 15th century. However, not all the books have spurred the same type of hype as each other overtime. This paper will explore the stylistic techniques, content, and themes that made James Patterson s Maximum Rideso popular to the wide age range from pre teens to adults. The creepy scenes of the lab and mutant children in cages with their organs out and the morphing of Erasers and violent fights were all disturbing yet attract both male and female audience: the males get excited by them while the girls sympathetic. In James Patterson s Maximum Ride series, the suspense and nonstop action, as well as Max s smart mouth and witty narration keep teens (especially boys) reading. • 6. Analyzing And Exploring The Global City Danielle D Amico Julia Miller Analyzing and Exploring the Global City: Sydney 3 July 2015 Research Paper Throughout the years, people from all over the world have migrated to Australia and the United States of America to create better lives for themselves such as escaping religious/political persecution, obtaining a better education, reuniting with their families, becoming exposed to more job opportunities, and various other reasons (Singer 2). Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in America and Sydney, New South Wales in Australia have similar immigration patterns, settlement trends, and impacts. However, the communities of immigrants tend to not follow the same behaviors in both cities. Immigration is vital for continuous economic and social growth. Thus, what impact does immigration have on these two cities? In 2011, Australia s population was 26% migrants compared to America s, which was only 13% ( 4102.0 Australian Social Trends, 2014 ). Migration is essential to Australia s population; in 2011, over 5 million migrants resided in Australia. Immigrants from England (over 1 million) and New Zealand (almost half a million) dominate Australia s migrant community. Australia s migrant population also includes large numbers of Chinese, Indian, Italian, and Vietnamese immigrants among many others. On average, most migrants stay in Australia for 20 years. Some migrants stay longer than others; European immigrants stay for over the average amount of years meanwhile Chinese and Indian
  • 7. My Teaching Philosophy Of Teaching For Physical Education EPE 100 has not only taught me so much about becoming a teacher but a ton about myself. Prior to EPE 100, I felt as though I had a solid understanding of what it meant to be a physical education teacher. Do a quick warm up, Rally the students, put them into teams, explain the rules and let them go at it. Man oh man was I wrong. Throughout readings, assignments, and practice I now believe to have a much better understanding of what it means to be a physical educationteacher. There has been three major ideas that have begun to influence my teachingphilosophy; Teaching for physical literacy and skill development not just sports, embracing physical activity as a lifelong journey and challenging all students inside and outside of the classroom. These three concepts are very important to me as I begin my teaching career and are the three highlights in which I took out of EPE 100. It took me a very poor micro teaching experience to finally understand that physical education is truly about more than just sports. You learn more from failure, than you do from success this is a quote that I hear very often from various coaches and teachers. I think this perfectly sums up my micro teaching experience, while it was not a completely failure it served as a very important lesson to me. It was not until I was placed into a teaching situation that I fully realised not everyone is going to excell, and that one cannot expect the whole class to be able to pick up a sport in one lesson. Nick
  • 8. Drinking And Driving Drinking and driving is not always a right thing. When people drink and drive the action of it could get extremely dangerous. Wrecks are one of the main problems that can happen when some people are drunk because some can lose control of what they are trying to do and end up wrecking. Another problem is driving under the influenceof being on drugs. This can cause serious damage. When people are on drugs, they lose train of thought and half of the time, they forget what they are doing. It does not end too well. People can become abusive because they usually do not exactly know what they are doing. Usually, people do drugs to get their minds or to make them feel better when they are emotional, but when others do so much, they lose control... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unfortunately, some of the money was spent on high school driver education, which increased teenage driving without reducing the number of crashes per driver, thus increasing deaths (Robertson 296).When driving while on any kind of drug can mess up your train in thought. Although people tend to lose what they was thinking before and everything else, but most of all some forget about the dangerous outcome that will happen when they are on them. Throughout the year there has been a big change in the numbers going up on crashes. There are now programs that can help them so they can get out of everything and all the drugs that you re on (Robertson 295). They have made vast progress: based on random stops, the number of drivers with any alcohol in their system was 35.9% in 1973. By 2007, the figure had fallen to 12.4%, according to the Department of Transportation (Gray 54).Police to this day are still trying to get people to stop drinking and driving and doing drugs and driving. There has been so many wrecks and people dying over this case. Some people do not really understand how dangerous it can be and they still continue to do it. It was becoming to the point police can not really get anyone to understand even with them being taken into prison (Gray 54). Three published studies have examined the effects of lowered BAC laws on teenage driving after drinking and fatal car crash involvement.(n5 n7). Youths are more likely to
  • 9. Employment Tribunals In Australia In order to properly address the matter of an employee who is suspected of coming into work under the influence of illegal drugs, we must ensure that we follow the businesses disciplinary processes and if the process leads to it, we must ensure that, the reason for dismissal falls under one or more of the 5 fair reasons under the Employments Rights Act (1996). These reasons can include: Conduct includes minor issues such as unauthorised absence to more serious (gross misconduct) issues such as gross negligence or theft. Capability unable to complete their role to the required standard this can be due to skills or health. Before any dismissal can take place we must ensure that we conduct a full and fair investigation whilst being conscious... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Examples Of Binary Opposition In The Hunger Games Binary opposition is not only a vital concept in linguistics, but it also plays a significant role in the fields of anthropology, sociology, literature and art as it is believed that things only mean something in relation to one another, like the ever existing concept of good and evil. They serve as labels to identifying certain ideas but what makes them opposites is that fact that they cannot coexist and this creates boundaries between groups, leading to discrimination, inequality and injustice. This is very much present in The HungerGames in which two opposite groups are created based on the same idea of presence and absence (of power) and the weaker group fears the stronger and ends up obeying whatever the dominant has to say. This not only creates prejudices, bias and disparity between groups but also leads to the us and them distinction, where the dominant... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From the very beginning of the story, we are told that it is not safe to talk against the Capitol as they have eyes and ears everywhere. Appraisal on the other hand is the act of estimating or judging the nature or value of something. Essentially, taking into account the definitions, archival appraisal is looking at all the available dimensions and variables of a subject, keeping in mind its pros and cons, its advantages and disadvantages and at the same time assessing the strengths and weaknesses. It is critically analysing the available literature. The ulterior motive so to speak is to preserve the documents by adding value, keeping in mind the various biases and results of other s studies, in order to extend the life of the archived documents. The concept of appraisal highlights the method of assessing the documents. The appraisal should be devoid of any sort of partiality. It should not favour any type of user. This ideological competition placed two superpowers against each other, the capitalist United States and the communist Soviet Union. This signalled a transformation of a new age. For the United States government, small increments of legislation, military power and the implementation of a new space agency into the political economic system were placed. Space exploration was targeted for the political economic analysis as they were close interactions between industry, academic circles, and government. It was a war sustained by the political distrust between two nations with polarizing political ideologies. American politics and society was governed by democracy, while in the Soviet Union communism ruled the political landscape. The fear for an all out nuclear war grew imminent and as a response, both countries devised new ways to retaliate using nuclear weapons. Rockets were developed as a response to this need. Before the launch of the Soviet Sputnik satellite in 1957, the United States had worked towards the same goal. The Eisenhower administration quietly created a project that involved satellites to orbit around the earth for the sole purpose of surveillance. The information collected would be used to avoid armed nuclear conflict with the Soviet Union. Many in the military were convinced that space could become a place of military battle. Many of these ideas were kept secret from the public and thus the Soviet s accomplishment created the Sputnik crisis. Ultimately Eisenhower was forced to respond with the launch of Explorer 1. By early 1958 the administration s space advisor James Killian created new civil space agency called the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA). Its mission was to control non military missions for space exploration. On October 1, 1958, NACA was disbanded, and transformed into the National Aeronautics and Space Administration
  • 23. The s Mini Research Paper Essay Santa Iglesia Advanced English 1, Per. 7 14 November 2016 OMS Mini Research Paper The word man has a very simple definition: an adult male ( The Definition ). However, there are many symbols and meanings being it. A Native American picture known as Man in a Maze, originally called I itoi, depicts a man standing at the entrance of a maze. At the center is the man s dreams where God greets him and passes him into the next world. The center is not easy to reach, for there are many twists and turns in the maze itself. The maze symbolizes life and the difficulties man has to go through to reach the end and move on. In this instance man is naive, but represents strength, and must go through the challenges faced through existence in order to find the way to the finish ( The Symbol ). Another simple, yet very complex word beyond its basic definition, is old . The book definition of old is to have existed for a long time ( I Found ). The word old is associated with wisdom because a lot of experience is thought to be gained during long periods of time. When combining the two words, old and man, a new and very intricate symbol is made. Old man symbolizes wisdom of humanity and the power of great knowledge. The phrase old man is also associated with high status and special powers because with great wisdom comes significant respect from less experienced individuals (Cirlot). Joe DiMaggio was a famous baseball player for the Yankees and was nicknamed Yankee Clipper who

(BDII). There are two types of Bipolar Disorders that I will cover in this paper. They include Bipolar I disorder (BP I) and Bipolar II disorder (BD II).According to the Epidemiologic Catchment Area Study, as cited by Kleinman, Lowin, Flood, Gandhi, Edgell, and Revicki (2003), the lifetime prevalence by race and ethnicity for BD I and BD II, are as follows: Caucasian 0.8% and 0.4%, African American 1.0% and 0.6%, and Hispanic 0.7% and 0.5%.. Lifetime prevalence rate for Bipolar I is 0.6%and bipolar II it is 0.3% over a 12 month period (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). People who have Bipolar I disorder typically experience alternating episodes of depression and mania where there is a separation of some level of normalcy in the sequence (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). For example, they might be depressed for 4 days feel normal for a couple of days than go into a manic episode. Both essays depict the struggles African Americans faced, but also attempt to inspire African Americans to see beyond their struggles and establish their identities in America. Both essays begin by stating the issues that African Americans are facing at that time. Du Bois reflects on the way people viewed African Americans as problems and how that affected one s own self awareness, regardless of what they previously thought. Constantly feeling like a problem and constantly being reminded of it elicits a lack of self worth. You are shown the girls vandalising the city once more before the video ends. The message that is possibly trying to be displayed is that television is evil. It turns people into similar beings, and gives them ideas of violence and destruction. This is portrayed when the girls with the same faces are terrorising the neighbourhood. The man coming out of the television shows the evil that can be broadcasted across television networks. Representation The man that comes out of the television is being represented as rebellious, evil, nasty, scary and dangerous. There are also elements of unusualness, and he comes across as quite psychotic. Just by looking at him you can tell that he is monstrous, and is giving this message across. In 1973, in response to the criticism of Sir James Lighthill and ongoing pressure from congress, the U.S. and British Governments stopped funding undirected research into artificial intelligence. Seven years later, a visionary initiative by the Japanese Government inspired governments and industry to provide AI with billions of dollars, but by the late 80s the investors became disillusioned and withdrew funding again. Progress in AI has continued, despite the rise and fall of its reputation in the eyes of government bureaucrats and venture capitalists. Problems that had begun to seem impossible in 1970 have been solved and the solutions are now used in successful commercial products. However, no machine has been built with a human level of intelligence, contrary to the optimistic predictions of the first generation of AI researchers. We can only see a short distance ahead, admitted Alan Turing, in a famous 1950 paper that catalyzed the

Quickly, Axus rushed down the narrow path to another door. This entrance was much like the first, but the outside was not coated in a thin film of rust, like the one before it. Axus jammed his thumb into the green button next to the door, and spun around as the opening behind him started to close. • 32. Essay on The Myth of Sisyphus Albert Camus The Myth of Sisyphus is not simply a re telling of the myth itself, but also an interpretation of the way in which the myth can be related to the life of humanity in general, and in particular to one s understanding and acceptance of the futility of life, which he does not consider to be negative per se. He looks at the nature of Sisyphus character, the way in which he challenged and defied the gods, and the punishment he received as a result. However, he does not look at Sisyphus fate as something which defines the gods as victorious and Sisyphus as subjugated to their will, primarily because of the way in which Sisyphus himself perceives his condition.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is, of course, a matter of pride amongst the gods that a mere human cannot defeat them, either by strength or trickery, and therefore they are, by their own natures, obliged to find ways to gain revenge on Sisyphus for his audacity. Sisyphus is successful in spending some time in the land of the living, and evading the wrath of the gods, but eventually, the courier of the gods, Mercury, forces him to return and his punishment is decided. He is condemned to roll a heavy rock uphill for all eternity, and each time he reaches the top of the slope, the rock rolls back down again and he is obliged to start all over again. The punishment is, as Camus says, `that unspeakable penalty in which the whole being is exerted towards accomplishing nothing . Since it is in human nature to expect success as a result of effort and hard work, to be obliged to carry out the effort knowing that there will be no reward, no achievement, is a harsh punishment indeed. Sisyphus has no choice but to continue pushing the rock uphill, watching it return, pushing it again, knowing all the time that however much effort he puts into the task, it will in the end avail him nothing. Camus goes on to point out that there is no detailed description of Sisyphus in the underworld, since myths are the framework for the imagination. It is up to human beings to `breathe life into the basic parameters of the

Unilateral Vocal Fold Paralysis ( Uvfp ) Unilateral Vocal Fold Paralysis Heather Newberg Jacksonville University INTRODUCTION Unilateral vocal fold paralysis (UVFP) is the complete immobility of one vocal fold. According to Sapienza and Ruddy (2013), 90% of vocal fold paralysis that occurs is unilateral and caused by damage to the peripheral nervous system (p. 189). Vocal fold paralysis is typically considered a symptom of a disease or neurologic disruption. In one study, it was found that vocal fold paralysis was caused by surgical trauma, tumors or neoplasms, unknown or idiopathic factors, trauma, central nervous system dysfunction, radiation, inflammatory, cardiovascular, and other causes (Chen, Jen, Wang, Lee, Lin, 2007). Symptoms of unilateral vocal fold paralysis may include: aphonia, abnormal vocal quality (breathy, hoarse, and/or strained), and dysphagia. Onset of UVFP may be life altering as the individual has to find compensatory strategies for voicing or even alternative methods of communication. The individual is also left susceptible to aspiration due to the lack of airway protection. These factors make it critical to diagnose the impairment so as to provide the appropriate treatment. DIAGNOSIS Vocal fold paralysis is diagnosed by an otolaryngologist through the use of endoscopy, laryngostroboscopy, and laryngeal electromyography. Two types of endoscopes may be used to visualize the vocal folds. One type is a rigid endoscope that is placed in the back of the oral cavity with a camera pointing down

Difference Between Presupposition And Entailment Introduction: Presupposition and entailment are two phenomenons in the field of semantics in which speakers assume that particular information is already known by their listeners. Presupposition defined in The Cambridge Encyclopedia of Language is, The information that a speaker assumes to be already known. Presuppositions are therefore implicit assumptions about the background beliefs and scenarios made by the speaker to be mutually known by the addressee. For example, The World War has ended. This utterance implies two things. Firstly, there was a World War. Secondly, it has now ended. Have you stopped playing piano? In counterfactual it is not only a false or non factive statement but it is also far from the reality. Or it s only a wish or dream that may never come true. Example, If I was rich I would have booked a room in Burj khalifa. It presupposes that the subject wishes to be rich and then be able to book a room in Burj Khalifa. Difference between Entailment and Presupposition: Entailment and Presupposition are two very closely related terms however there is a very distinct difference between them. Entailment is a relationship between two sentences, where the truth of one implies the truth of the other. The difference between the two terms can be suggested as such that, negation of a sentence does not change its presuppositions whereas, the negation of a sentence changes the entailment. For example, I want to take a dance class again. I don t want to take a dance class again. Presupposition: Both the sentences presuppose that the subject has already taken a dance class before. Entailment: First sentence entails that the subject is willing again to take a dance class. While the second sentence entails that now the subject has taken it before he /she does not want to take it

While my father was in the picture for a majority of my childhood, he was also a severe alcoholic which greatly impacted my upbringing. My rules, obligations, and expectations were not always set in stone and did often depend on the time, situation, and/or mood of my parents. I think it is normal for parents to differ slightly in their parentingstyles occasionally. As a young kid I remember my sister and I being very aware that the mood my motherwas in greatly contributed to the outcome of a question or event. I think most, if not all of us can relate to this. Overall however, I would say that my mother had an authoritative parenting style. My mother made is very clear that she was the parentand in charge, however she was welcoming and understanding enough that I felt comfortable coming to her with questions or problems. My mom was also very encouraging and supportive. She always pushed me to do my best but never made me feel bad if I did not reach my goals. I was lucky to have such a great relationship with my mom, not everyone does. As a young teenager I had many friends who would come to me with questions and concerns because they knew my mom was so open minded and understanding. My mom was always my parent first and my friend second. I knew what was expected of me and I was disciplined for bad behavior, however I always knew I could go to her with anything I needed. My father, like many addicts was

The proponents of the frivolous lawsuit argument are similar to the voting ID argument. It is unfounded that voting ID fraud is rampant, however, the chances of this happening is less than 1%. 32 One percent is a nominal figure that does not raise a situation to code red and allows for the disenfranchisement of whole sections of voters. Similarly, the possibility of a nominal number of frivolous lawsuits brought by indigent litigants should not disenfranchise the right to representation in housing court. Most importantly, there safeguards and screening put in place to reduce the chances of frivolous lawsuits. For example, attorneys must listen and evaluate a case using their legal knowledge to determine if a case is meritless or not. In addition, the court and the judge must examine the case and can make a determination if the case is meritless or not. Moreover, landlords bring eviction cases, not tenants.35 Therefore, indigent litigants cannot increase
