Our forefathers were bright enough to establish a system of government with a
series of checks and balances to maintain a balanced government. For the past decade
a series of checks and balances has begun to fail our government. In our failing
system of government inmates have taken advantage of the court system and have
flooded it with an inconceivable number of frivolous lawsuits. Laurel Walters, a writer
for the Christian Science Monitor, investigated inmates lawsuits and found that these

These frivolous lawsuits are costing law abiding tax payers billion every year.
Frivolous lawsuits can be found in every state around the nation. In New York
inmates have sued over bad haircuts and melted ice cream and their constitutional
right to use beige towels instead of white ones. (New York Times, B2). In Texas an
inmate claimed he was subject to cruel and unusual punishment because he was
served chunky instead of smooth peanut butter. In Massachusetts a recaptured prison
escapee sued because the state threw out the personal property he left behind. Lloyd
Duhaime a writer for the Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse quotes one extreme case
that took place in California. The ingenuity of this following lawsuit goes without
parallel. An inmate filed a $5 million lawsuit against himself (claiming he violated
his own civil rights by getting arrested) but insisted the state pay because he was a
ward of the state (web site).
A by product of these frivolous cases are skyrocketing costs. Paper work costs,
clerical costs, lawyers and court fees accompany every case. Even for the most
frivolous of lawsuits all of these costs must be paid. Most often this bill is paid by
tax payers as inmates are able to claim pauper status to avoid the bills. By the time a
case comes before a judge with the ability to toss it out, the costs associated with the
case can run as high as $4,500. Obviously, something needs to be done.

A text that I Would recommend to all year 12 students is the historical film The
Imitation Game, directed by Morten Tyldum. I would recommend this text
because of how we can learn from the theme of Homophobia and the idea of
Individualism. The film is about Alan Turing and his struggle to create a machine
to decipher the enigma code used by the germans in the second world war.
Throughout the film he works past obstacles in his way in order to achieve this
goal of creating a mechanical mind .The film is mostly shown as a series of
flashbacks from Alan as he is questioned by the police about being accused of the
crime of indecency (homosexuality). The first reason I recommend this film to year

poor black neighborhood, where Milkman s father prohibits Milkman from

_Song of Solomon_ in the Bible is about love, just as it is one of the most popular
themes in Morrison s novel. Love is apparent in several ways throughout the novel,
from Hagar s immoral, and eventually psychotic, love for her cousin, Milkman,
(which eventually leads to Hagar s death), to the lack of love that leads Milkman s
mother to habitually breast feed him, at least daily, for years just to get a small
amount of pleasure. Morrison explains this by saying, ...he was old enough to be

through the naming of the children in the Dead family. When describing the names

Though it contains little words, there is a lot to be said about this poem. She uses
parallelism between the hawk and the fish. The thing that was pulled out of the
water was a hawk that had grabbed the fish in its talons. The hawk was then
drowned by the water. This is ironic because the fish being the prey survives and
the hawk being a top predator ends up being engulfed by the water. To readers this is
very unexpected. The water plays a major role in this poem.

Bowling for Columbine is a documentary directed by American filmmaker and
activist, Michael Moore. The political documentary focuses on the 1999 school

corruption is worse than prostitution. The latter might endanger the morals of an
individual, the former invariably endangers the morals of the entire country. For
decades, the United States has been one the most notable countries to come under fire
with reports of government corruption. During the dawn of the new millennium the
Transparency Corruption began to publish their Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI),
a culmination of assessments and opinion surveys by experts which rank countries

Orestes has to kill her (Zeitlin, 476). The view of vengeance in Aeschylus s The
Oresteia also depends on the situation the person enacting the vengeance is in
beforehand.
Another component that changes the view of vengeance is what situation the
character is in; meaning how the murderer is related to the victim and the position
they are in at the time or before. Clytemnestra is in a situation where her husband kills
their daughter and she can either retaliate or live with the fact that Iphigenia is dead.
She chooses to kill her husband and she does not have any support other than that
of Aegisthus. Orestes is basically forced into killing his mother and Aegisthus by
Apollo and people around him like his sister Electra and the Chorus as well as his
friend Pylades. In the beginning of Liberation Bearers, Orestes comes back and
encounters his sister Electra at their father s grave. During their reacquaintance,
Orestes tells Electra that he has been ordered to kill Clytemnestra and Aegisthus
by Apollo, ...if I failed to kill my father s killers.......to kill the two of them as they
killed him, in the same way. He said that otherwise I d pay the debt with my own
