Persuasive Essay On Cell Phones
Crafting a persuasive essay on the topic of cell phones is no walk in the park. While these
devices have become an integral part of our daily lives, navigating the myriad of arguments and
counterarguments can be quite challenging. The debate around cell phones encompasses a wide
range of issues, from their impact on communication and social interactions to concerns about
privacy and health.
Firstly, delving into the positives and negatives of cell phone usage requires careful
consideration. One must tread lightly on the fine line between acknowledging the convenience
they bring to our lives and addressing the potential drawbacks, such as the erosion of face-to-
face communication or the addictive nature of constant connectivity. Additionally, exploring the
impact on academic and workplace settings demands a nuanced approach, recognizing both the
benefits and distractions that cell phones can pose.
Addressing the health implications of cell phone usage introduces another layer of complexity.
Navigating the scientific studies and debates surrounding radiation exposure, eye strain, and the
potential long-term effects requires a keen understanding of the subject matter. Presenting
evidence in a persuasive manner while avoiding alarmism or downplaying legitimate concerns
demands careful research and attention to detail.
Furthermore, constructing a compelling argument necessitates addressing opposing viewpoints.
Anticipating and refuting counterarguments requires a thorough understanding of the
perspectives that might challenge the essay's stance. Striking a balance between acknowledging
valid concerns and reinforcing the essay's position is crucial for a persuasive and well-rounded
piece.
In conclusion, writing a persuasive essay on cell phones requires a thorough examination of
multiple facets, from societal implications to health concerns. It demands a delicate balance
between acknowledging the benefits and drawbacks while presenting a compelling argument
that persuades the reader to align with the author's viewpoint.

Disciple Of The Local Church
DISCIPLE MAKING IN THE LOCAL CHURCH
A Written Assignment 3
Cynthia Taylor
DSMN 500 B10
September, 2014
SUMMARY
According to Early Dempsey, a disciple is a person, while discipleship is a process. A
disciple is a passionate follower of Jesus Christ who is intimately involved in the
mission of Christ. On the other hand, discipleship is the process of moving the
disciple towards spiritual maturity and the mission of Christ. Being a disciple is God
s perfect will for every individual life; however, discipleship is God s will for every
individual church [1]
The Great Commission denotes that disciples must be made. Many worship
opportunities have been provided by the church such as fellowship, bible study and
church events that will aid in developing the mind set of Christ, being obedient to the
commands of Christ, engaging in his commission and being transformed into His
image. According to Jesus disciples need to be made and informed.
How disciple are made? According to Disciple Shift, pastor and author Jim Putman
describes diverse stages of spiritual growth with simplicity. In defining these five
spiritual growth stages he informs the reader of their beliefs and how the local church
and a Christian community should implement a plan to help individuals to maturity
in reaching these stages: spiritually dead, spiritual infants, spiritual children, spiritual
young adults, and spiritual parents.

Cruelty In Kingsolver s The Poisonwood Bible
The Theme of Cruelty in The Poisonwood Bible In Kingsolvers novel,The
Poisonwood Bible, the characters are subjected to physical and physiological
cruelty due to the actions and imperiousness of the perpetrator and antagonist
Nathan Price. The Poisonwood Bible is told in a series of chronological accounts
from the women of Price family in which the reader sees the cruelty and misfortune
they endure in their everyday life in the Congo. In the end, cruelty pushes the Price
family to the breaking point and the whole family decides to leave Nathan in the
village as he loses what is little left of his sanity. Although Nathan s motives for
forcing his family from 1950s urban America to the village Congo may be genuinely
good, his ignorance... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the novel, Nathan exhibits cruelty towards his family and the
villagers. Cruelty is a direct antonym of Love. Looking back to the Bible, Paul
states in a letter to the: And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the
greatest of these is love ( New International Version, 1 Corinthians 13:13). While
Nathan may be spreading faith and hope, because of his cruelty, he is certainly not
showing love, which according to scripture is the most important. Instead of
loving his wife Orleanna, Nathan rebukes her many times for no reason and even
acts out in physical cruelty by roughly batting Orleanna away as she tried to nurse
his wounds. Nathan s actions are again hypocritical and go directly against the
Bible says. Paul, in another letter, writes Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ
loved the church and gave himself up for her. (Ephesians 5:25). Ultimately Nathan
is not able to convince any of the villagers to be baptized because he has not
showed love and therefore not God to them. John, another apostle, states to a church
that is struggling with false prophets: Whoever does not love does not know God,
because God is love (1 John 4:8). One may conclude from these verses that even
though Nathan Price may have some knowledge of the Bible, he truly does not know

Positive And Negative Effects Of Tobacco
Just because something may make someone feel good it does not mean that it is
good for them. Like many people say too much of anything is bad for you.
Alcohol, drugs, and tobacco are by no chance an exception. They are honestly
quite the opposite considering how many negative effects they cause people each
year. Alcohol, drugs, and tobacco after being abused will lead to an unhealthy life
that will keep people from enjoying life since they are at higher risk of many
diseases that may or may not be fatal. Alcohol is used by many people and has
become an important part of life throughout the whole world. Alcohol use has
become widespread and has become almost inextricably linked with a number of
social, cultural, and religious events. When consumed in moderation, alcohol is
relatively safe and, in some cases, even provide the users with limited health
benefits. An example being how research has shown that drinking moderate amounts
of alcohol may protect healthy adults from developing coronary heart disease
(NIAAA). Low levels of intoxication are likely to result in increased sociability and
euphoria. On the other hand, higher levels of alcohol consumption can result in
sedation and dangerously low pulse and breathing rate. Alcohol use causes many
different types of injuries, including injuries from road traffic accidents, assaults and
falls (Alcohol the Body Health Effects). This is usually because high levels of blood
alcohol impair the brain s thought processes and

Q: 3 (A) What factors must a firm consider while addressing the make or buy
decision?
Ans:
International Operations management and corporate strategy:
Operations management of an International business needs to be integrated with the
firm s corporate strategy. The central role of operations managementis to create the
potential for achieving superior value for the firm. If operations management takes
Rs. 100 worth of inputs and brings out product worth Rs. 150, it has crated
considerable value for the firm. However, if it requires Rs. 140 worth of inputs to
obtain the same output, value creation does take place, but is very little. Therefore,

The arguments that support vertical integration and the risks associated with
outsourcing. The risks of outsourcing are incidentally the supportive arguments for
any decisions to make.
Reasons for Outsourcing:
1. Strategic flexibility switching orders between suppliers as circumstances dictate
2. Cost reduction
3. Focus on core competencies
4. Minimize inventory, materials handling, and other non value added costs.
5. Reduce development and production cycle times
6. Improve efficiency
7. Possibility of obtaining orders from the country where suppliers are located.
Risks of Outsourcing
1. Loss of control
2. Conversion costs
3. Possibility of being tied to obsolete technology
4. Exposure to supplier risks; financial strength, loss of commitment to outsourcing,
slow implementation, promised features not available, lack of responsiveness poor
quality
5. Loss of protection over proprietary technology
6. Denial of the possibility of specialized investments
Trade offs is always involved in make or buys decisions. The benefits of
manufacturing components in house seem to be very strong when highly specialized
assets are involved, when firm is simply more efficient than external suppliers at
performing a particular activity.
When these conditions are not present, the risks of strategic inflexibility and
organizational problems suggest that it may be better contract out manufacturing
components to independent suppliers. Since issues of strategic flexibility
Theme Of Colonialism In The Quiet American
The Quiet American written by Graham Greene is set in the first Indochina war in
Vietnam. The novel reflects on the opening stages of American involvement in the
conflict between Vietnam and French, which led to the war. Greene uses the
relationships between the characters Fowler, Pyle, and Phuong to symbolize the
position of each country in this international dispute. The novel mainly explores the
shades of unusual European social and political relations with Vietnamthrough the
character Fowler and Phuong. Moreover, The Quiet Americandepicts the unique
perspective of the dominant country and subordinate country in the colonialism
symbolically through Fowler and Phuong.
To begin with, even though Fowler keeps competing with Pyle over Phuong ... Show

Fowler is unable to marry Phuong because of his responsibility in England. He has
not spent all his effort on Phuong for the possibility that he might go back to
England if his wife does not agree to divorce him. However he desperately obtains
the benefits of living with Phuong. Such position of Fowler shows Europe s selfish
desire to maintain colonial power over Vietnam, blocking the autonomy of the
subservient country. However, there is an unexpected ambiguity in Fowler s
feeling, as even though Fowler treats Phuong as an object, he still has a deep
attachment to her that he weeps at the possibility of losing her (394). While Fowler
refers to Phuong as a hooked fish (30), the revelation of the unfortunate role of
Vietnamese women, at the same time he said that Dante never thought up that turn
of the screw for his condemned lovers. Paolo was never promoted to Purgatory.
(35), comparing him and Phuong to Paolo and Francesca, Fowler valued their
eternal love with the fear that their love will end up as a tragedy. All these emotions
of Fowler show how the dominant country indeed desires the colony on multiple
levels, as a servant like figure or a companion, or even a
A Literary Analysis Of Kathleen Bowen s The Demon Lover
What Drove Her? In The Demon Lover, Kathleen Drover is the protagonist and
represents a British wife and mother who returned from the country to her war
ravaged home in London hoping to retrieve some of her family s personal
belongings. Mrs. Drover s story unfolds as a haunting of supernatural means driven
by the ghostof her sweetheart, an un named soldier presumed to have been killed
during World War Itwenty five years earlier. The dark imagery of the story is craft
fully controlled by Bowen and fosters a heavy sense of circumstance, anxiety, and
even ambiguity, which transports the reader through nightmarish stages of suspense
and ultimately horror. The tone of The Demon Loveris initially set by Bowen as
Drover returns to her abandoned, gloomy, London street in anticipation of a quick
gathering of personal belongings from her boarded up, delapitated former home. As
a depressing back drop to an even heavier story, the war blitzed city provides the
mood of eeriness, chaos, and depression. German rockets have ravaged... Show more

Drover s demise through Bowen s intense imagery paralleling history with that of a
ghost tale. The vacant house, cold air, the mysterious letter whose source is un
documented, a faceless lover from the past, un fulfilled promise, an empty marriage,
persistent rain, and a taxi with no apparent destination come together during a war
torn time to create unconventional feelings of the super natural. Even the bruise in
the wallpaper assumes a damaged position and a haunting significance. The
ambiguity of Bowen s ending of The Demon Lover fits perfectly as the final
destination of Drover s taxi ride is uncertain, but Bowen s imagery throughout the
story emphasizes the idea that through descriptive language and some horror, the
forgotten past exists in Kathleen s mind to haunt the
Reflection Of Paleinography In Paleography
Until I took this course, FHGEN130 Paleography, I did not have a full
understanding of what paleography truly was. I understood that by taking this class,
I could gain the ability to read records with which I had been having no luck with.
Little did I know, that there are so many different scripts to learn and decipher. I now
understand the reason why I struggled with reading the records and documents about
my ancestors that I had been gathering. Since beginning this course, I now know of
and can read the following scripts: Palmer, Copperplate Round Hand, Italic,
Spencerian, and Secretary Hand.
The first script that I learned is the Palmer script. Austin Norman Palmer developed
the Palmer Script in the 1870s and, it was prominent in the 1960s. Palmer is italic
cursive letters and designed to be more of a masculine handwriting than an
ornamental script. This writing system was intended to allow the body to perform
efficiently by emphasizing position and posture. Public schools taught this script and
businesses often used it.
The next script that we studied was Copperplate Round Hand Script (Copperplate).
The Copperplate script began developing in England in the 1600s. The colonies and
England used Copperplate script from the 1600s through the 1800s. Thin upstrokes,
thicker downstrokes, and fluid shaded letters are what make this script so
recognizable. The Constitution and Declaration of Independence are both written in
this script. Some official documents today, such as diplomas and certificates, still use
Copperplate to add a sense of formal recognition.
An additional script that I studied was developed by Niccolo Niccoli. He developed
the Italic script in Italy during the 1420 s. The Italic script was based on the
Humanistic miniscule and designed because he felt that the lowercase minuscules
took too long to form. The slightly sloped Italic script was quicker to write due to
fewer strokes and joined letters. Although the Italic script fell out of use with the
scribes when around the 1550s when the printing press was invented, it influenced the
Copperplate Script and additional developments have been made to this script in the
20th century. It has since been used to teach cursive and by many

Scalindua wagneri and C. S. sorokinii, no hybridization to bacteria was found,
while for the more general probe Sca 1309 just one very small colony of

Robert Browning And Porphyria s Lover
The Master of Drama : Robert Browning and Porphyria s Lover
Robert Browning was an English poet and playwright who mastered dramatic
poems, which made him one of the most influential Victorian poets. Browning was
born in Camberwell, United Kingdom and died at the age of 77 in Venice, Italy.
Throughout his life he wrote many poems including My Last Duchess and
Porphyria s Lover ; he also wrote some plays including The Pied Piper of Hamelin
and Pippa Passes . Robert Browning was a much underappreciated poet until later in
his life; he wrote very dark and dramatic poems that people did not give credit to
until after his death.
Robert Browning was born on May 7, 1812, in Camberwell, United Kingdom, a
suburb in London, and educated at the school of Peckham until 1826. He then
went on to be taught by a private tutor from 1826 1829, he attended the university
of London from 1829 1830. He decided on a literary career and published his first
poem in 1833(Tucker 132). The First poem he published was called Pauline
(Shilstone 646). Browning was very educated throughout his lifetime and it shows
in his works. He married Elizabeth Barrett Moulston on September 12,
1846,(Tucker 132), the love of his life : The marriage of Elizabeth and Robert
Browning is one of the world s most famous romances (Shilstone 646). After the
couple married, they settled in Florence during the winter of 1847. Their son was

The Russian Revolution Of 1917
The Russian Revolution of 1917 involved the collapse of an empire under Tsar
Nicholas II and the rise of Marxian socialism under Lenin and his Bolsheviks. It
sparked the beginning of a new era in Russia that had effects on countries around the
world.
In the years leading up to the Russian Revolution of 1917, the country had a
succession of wars. These were, The Crimean War (1854 56), The Russo Turkish
War (1877 78), The Russo Japanese War (1904 1905), and World War I(1914 18). All
of these required a lot from the state, including tax dollars and manpower. Russia
suffered defeat in all, except against Turkey. This series of war caused great
discontent among the people and caused suffering in the country s economy and
government.
Along with these wars, there were three major parties that contributed to the cause
of the revolution. First, there were the peasants, who maintained the majority of
the population in Russia. They were excessively poor and could barely escape
famine from harvest to harvest. The population boom in Russia from 1867 1896
was felt most drastically by the peasants. The increase of 30 million people in less
than 30 years was too great that the land to the peasants disposal did not increase
sufficiently. The government tried to help, but war took precedence. Second, there
was a rise of the industrial working class. These workers were employed in the
mines, factories and workshops of the major cities. They suffered low wages, poor
housing and many

Amelia Earhart wanted to be the first woman to fly around the world, but didn t
make it. Bewildered, Amelia s disappearance is still an unsolved mystery today.
Amelia s early life was filled with exciting activities and her plane career was mostly
successful. Some people are still coming up with theories about Amelia Earharts
disappearance today.
First of all, there are lots of facts about Amelia s early life. One interesting fact
about Amelia s early life is her childhood. Amelia was born in Atchison, Kansas on
July 24, 1897. Her family members are Muriel her sister, her parents were Edwin

According to a report by the International Narcotics Control Board (INCB, 2006),
the East African region has become the fallback for drug dealers following
increased control of traditional routes through the Netherlands and Spain. The

Essay The Articles of Confederation
The articles of Confederation were the first attempt at a federal government for the
United States. They only lasted for about seven years (1781 1788) until they were
they were thrown out and replaced by the Constitution As a whole, they did not lay
out a very strong or effective central government. Some positive things were
accomplished, but the biggest accomplishment of the Articles was that they pointed
put what would not work for the United Statesand they paved a was for the writing of
the Constitution. The Articles of Confederationstarted out as a radical plan for a
strong central government written by John Dickinson in 1776. By the time there

This way, one single state would not have such heavy influence over all of the other
states. In 1786, there was a major even that made people question the Articles of
Confederation. In rural, western Massachusettes, there was a violent uprising of
unhappy farmers led by Daniel Shays. They were upset because of high taxes and
they complained that the Massachusetts state government did not really care about
them. Although the federal government had the power to raise an army to stop the
thousands of farmers led by Shays, because they could not tax, they lacked sufficient
funds, After Shays s Rebellion, George Washington commented to James Madison
that outbreaks such as Shays s would pull state governments apart and eventually all
of the state governments would crumble without the support of a strong federalist
central government. Eight years after Shays s Rebellion, there was a similar rebellion
in western Pennsylvania. In 1794, a group of farmers, angry because of unfair taxes
on distilled whiskey, rallied together and became a violent threat. This time, with the
Constitution in place, President Washington was able to call together a militia to
disband the angry group of farmers. This shows tat under the Articles and the
Constitution, similar problems arose, but the government under the Constitution was
much better suited to deal with them than the government under the Articles.

How Did The Puritans Influence The New England Colonies
On the North American Atlantic seaboard, New England began developing in the
early 17th century. After Spain began the mad scramble for American land, other
European nations and peoples realized the opportunities the New World provided.
New England, or the northern British colonies, were largely settled and so were
influenced by the Puritans, a group that emigrated from Britain to escape religious
persecution. The ideas and values of the Puritans greatly shaped the development of
the New Englandcolonies in many ways, but the strongest influence out of these was
their religious values. This influence can be seen in the politics, economy, and culture
of colonial New England. Politically, the foundations for limited government and
religious freedom in the Americas were developed by the Puritans. The Puritans
would create a strong work ethic and a disdain for greed that would influence the
growing economy. Socially, the Puritans created an emphasis on faith and education.

The political principals of the Puritans were derived directly from their religious
beliefs. In his work Limitation of Government, John Cotton declared that It is most
wholesome for magistrates...in [a] commonwealth never to affect more liberty and
authority than will do them good because he believed that God had set boundaries
for the power of man (Doc H). Thinkers like Cotton would pave the way for limited
government to become a core element of New England society. A natural extension
of the idea of limited government would be the dissuasion of monarchy and support
for a democracy, which is best suited for the curtailing of government power. It is true
that the Puritans were extremely zealous in their faith and

Death And The King s Horseman
Change is inevitable and Wole Soyinka made an allusion to that in his book Death
and the King s Horseman with his character Elesin whom we see is almost hesitant
with committing ritual suicide and also is see questioning his tradition and all this
arise organically and prior to Simon Pilkings interference and also in Things Fall
Apartby Chinua Achebein Obierika who already had started thinking and questioning
his tradition before the White Man came into the picture. The one thing with these
both examples is that although they are questioning their tradition, it is unclear if the
change could have been achieved. Apart from the organic change which might have
come fruition, these same books gave an extensive example of a more direct and
enforced change and that was with colonization and more specific with Amusa in the
Death and The King s Horseman and with the Kotma (Efulefu) and the Osu s.
Understanding the organic change in the continent would not be realistic because
the continent was never given the chance to do that thanks to colonization.
Although colonization was successful, I believe that it won t have been if the
White Man did not destabilize the social complexity of the natives. According to
Chinua Achebe in things fall apart, Obierika quote The white man is very clever.

Although some think that is enough to not admit him to any other military service he

Bergdahl actively made the decision to leave his post in Afghanistan in an attempt to
raise awareness to the issues he was having with his unit. His plan was to leave from
his duty station and make a long hike to another base in the region, causing what is
known as a DUSTWUN (duty status whereabouts unknown) and that this action
might bring attention to his situation by alerting higher command. There is no proof
of how he was actually captured, Bergdahl mailed many of his belongings home and
sent final emails to his father before his departure.
From my personal experience while deployed to Afghanistan from 2011 2012 I
can say it is very rough to put it simply, the thought of leaving your post and
wanting to get away from it all is a regular occurrence, but when you are in that
tower or driving on a convoy or whatever it is that you are doing and you look out
into the nothingness it hits you very quickly and you realize the radical
impracticality of it all, you understand through your training that there is literally no
way that you would be able to accomplish getting away from whatever you wish you
could.
Bowe s story of why he did leave his post is strange there are many sources of which
Google s Controversy
Freedom of speech and freedom of press have been points of controversy for as long
as they have been understood as fundamental human rights. In the past, the expression
of these rights would almost always be public, but with the introduction of computers
and the Internet, there are countless opportunities for anyone to voice his or her
mind on a variety of websites and forums. With such an effective avenue to have
your voice heard, it is not surprising that many people take advantage of the Internet
to discuss issues they have with several topics ranging from government and politics
to company policies. The right to speak out against the government is explicitly
protected by the Bill of Rights, but the rules of speaking out against a private
company are not so transparent. If an employee says something online that is to
the detriment of the company the employee works for, either by defaming the
company or breaking the company s set of rules, should the employee s right to
free speech have higher precedence than the company s right to uphold its rules?
One case that perfectly portrays this debate is Google s recent firing of its former
employee, James Damore, due to a controversial memo that Damore posted. After
attending a private Google summit that Damore perceived to be pushing diversity,
Damore decided that he needed to express his opinions on the matter.(3) He decided
to do this through a memo that would be posted on one of Google s internal
discussion boards.(6)
How Kids Learn Resilience Summary
The Falsehood of Resilience
The article How Kids Learn Resilience is written by Paul Tough and she confesses
for all our talk about non cognitive skills, nobody has yet found a reliable way to
teach kids to be grittier or more resilient (Tough 3). A new idea is developing that
these characteristics are not found in teaching but through environmental forces
inside the classroom and at home. In the article researchers, economists, American
schools, and teachers showcase how grit and resilience can be placed in the minds of
young children and in the middle and high school stages. The author takes us on a
journey through different theories, studies, and programs to help grasp a better
understanding of how young children and teenagers can develop ... Show more

In comparison, this viewpoint alternated my opinion as Dante Cicchetti displays
research on the determinants of resilience in maltreated children is presented as an
illustration of empirical work that is moving from single level to multilevel
investigations of competent functioning in the face of adversity and trauma .
For many different intellectuals in this article feel as though all our talk about
noncognitive skills, nobody has yet found a reliable way to teach kids to be grittier
or more resilient (3). As a result, Paul Tough does not build a logical argument
because nobody can determine how a person obtains grittiness.
Due to this topic being so broad, there is no definite answer to how an individual can
truly learn resilience. Also, in the article How Kids Learn Resilience Paul Tough
emphasizes the point that non cognitive traits like grit, self regulation, optimism, and
resilience simply cannot be taught. In this case, I agree but on the other hand, she
reveals that it is being built through student centered environments, which include
both a sense of belonging and academic
Influence of Greek and Roman Temples Essay
Greek and Roman temples are the most influential temples of all times. It is argued
that the Greek influenced the Romans and this may be the reason why their temples
are so alike. The Parthenon and the Pantheon are the most popular temples of both
eras. However, the Pantheon does not look like other roman temples would to Greek
temples and this is because it has interior space and thus has a completely different
composition. Despite their quite similar looks, Roman and Greek temples have
unique differences in material, method, purpose, and others.
The Parthenon, with no doubt, is one of the best well known Greek temples of all
times. It is also the dominant temple on the Akropolis. Its construction began in 447

Agrippa, Augustus right hand man, constructed this building as a temple to all the
gods; however, a fire destroyed this temple in 80 CE and so Domitian built the
reconstruction. The Pantheon we are familiar with has a significantly different
design than the original one, and this is why this specific temple is so dislike to the
rest of the Roman temples. Before it was burnt, the Pantheon stood in a podium at
the end of a large rectangular court. The surroundings of this temple have changed in
order to provide a unique experience to its visitors. For example, the temple has en
enormous dome with a 27 foot oculus that opens to the sky. This oculus lets a shaft of
light come through creating an emphasis wherever the reflection is. Visitors were
driven nowhere but to the light at the center of the dome. This building was built for
greeting foreign embassies, adjudicating disputes and hold court (Janson). Moreover,
the Pantheon is extraordinary because of the potential and strength of concrete. Some
other materials used in the process of building the temple include travertine, tufa,
brick, and pumice. These materials varied in order to reduce its weight. The colored
marble on the wall symbolized imperial authority. The sphere is though to symbolize
eternity and perfection and the bronze panels symbolized a starry night sky.
Greek and Roman temples are very similar in structure, however they have their
differences as well. Lets
Santa Marta Settlement Of A Farm Owned By Francisco
Jose...
Minoja (2012) found that until 1824, the area now occupied by Santa Marta
settlement is part of a farm owned by Francisco Jose Leite, Baron of Vassouras. In
1824 the land then passed to a second owner of the farm to the Baron of Macaubas.
In 1920 began the growth of the nearby suburb of Copacabana and Botafogo,
causing large amounts of development and thus increasing the need for workers. On
Santa Marta hill, due to the construction of Santo Inacio church and college, many
people migrated for the economic opportunities offered by the project and for the
land in which to erect houses offered by the priests. This project lasted almost 30
years.
The priest permitted the workers to erect their houses on Santa Marta hill, marking
the beginning of this settlement. The first dwellings were built on the top section of
the hill surrounded by the atlantic forest, one of the first being the chapel built by
Jesuit priests consecrated to Santa Marta, in which the settlement is named after
(Minoja, 2012, pg41).
Between 1930 1940 many people migrated from other areas of Brazil, as a result over
time the settlement densified and grew downwards towards the city. In 1940
approximately 31% of Brazil s population was living in urban areas and the first
census was conducted of 14 favelas in Rio de Janeiro (Minoja, 2012).
Santa Marta was one of the first favelas in Rio de Janeiro to experience intervention

The System Of Collective Rights
A lot has been said about the Brazilian system for the protection of collective rights,
of its innovations in terms of procedure, and especially the possibility of protecting
interests that in the past could not reach the Courts. However, it seems that the
effectiveness of its execution is not discussed to the same extent.
In general, the specific injunctions are preferred due to the very nature of the rights
involved. However, not rarely it ends up being unsuccessful, so that the pecuniary
reparation remains.
In these cases, it seems that the system created a safeguard, by predicting that the
amount from convictions in class actions, or the leftover values after individual
executions are filled should be directed to funds that, in turn, ... Show more content

Thus, it is fundamental to analyze how it was developed and the main critics that it
has been suffering.
Next, the Diffuse Rights Defense Fund (FDD), a reference for the analysis for funds
on class actions, is analyzed, since it is has the most resources and its regulation is
the strongest and unified. It is about analyzing its configuration, operation, origin and
application of the amount of money that it is assigned to allocate.
Again, based on the comparative study it is investigated what the doctrine considers
an institute closer to the configuration of the funds in class actions, which is the
CERCLA Superfund, an USA administrative fund, linked to the Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) created specifically to deal with the issue of toxic waste.
Finally, it is sought to make a comparative balance between the possibilities of the
fluid recovery within the executions of class actions in Brazil.
THE EXECUTION AND THE EXECUTION OF COLLECTIVE ACTIONS
Often the judge, in solving the litigation, ends up not granting protection to the right,
which means that, even if the author gets a favorable sentence, not necessarily it will
have its protection, being necessary also the executive provision. If, on one hand,
enforcement is perceived as the moment in which judicial decision is materialized, on
the other hand, it is essential to give the necessary attention and recover the
complexity execution as a fundamental point in the judicial protection of rights.

The strength and force of education is visible to anyone who cares to look at the
recent Egyptian revolution, where young students, with minds opened to the wonders
of democracy, through education, helped overthrow the yoke of suffering that their
parents had silently borne. Education is the silent and effective weapon of
nonviolence, which can help people and societies break the cycle of oppression that
many have historically suffered from. Many oppressed societies, where dictators have
thrived, have had a paucity of education avenues.
Education liberates the mind from its shackles and fears and encourages it to
challenge and to communicate with others. It is not without a reason that education
is at the bottom of the priority list of dictators. It was also not without reason that

The Issues Surrounding World Hunger
As we look around our world today, we see many of the struggles we face as a
nations combined. From the striking pace of global warming to the never ending
reoccurrence of both civil and international wars, there is still one issue that seems to
continuously be thrown on the backburner. Whether it be the highly industrialized
United States and China or the severely undeveloped areas of Sub Saharan Africa, the
pandemic of world hunger plagues all countries alike. According to Oxford English
Dictionary (2014), hunger is referred to as the feeling of pain or weakness due to an
absence of food, but what causes this absence of food ? What prevents those
suffering from accessing the proper nourishment? According to recent case studies
and statistical data, the worldwide dilemma of hunger has been directly linked to the
increasing presence of poverty. It has since then been hypothesized that the issues
surrounding world hunger can ultimately be excised by directly combatting the
matters related to poverty however, this can only be accomplished by first gaining a
clear and concise understanding of the problem at hand and only from there, with the
aid of government based resources, can we move forth to tackling the causes of
poverty and ultimately hunger itself.
Like a middle school science project, in order to tackle the proposed problem, we
must first assess what the problem truly is. Taking a glimpse at the widespread
devastation of hunger around the world, it may appear as

close your eyes and let your imagination run free. As you sleep your mind takes you
to another place far away from the real world. You begin to dream. Over the night,
you may have several dreams. In the morning, you may wake up and wonder what
your dreams were suppose to mean for you and your life. By analyzing your dream, it
gives a true picture of the subjective state how we really feel about ourselves which

My dream began in a huge mansion late one night. I began to walk down the long,
narrow hall. Bright flashes of lightning lit up the hallway for seconds at a time and
bangs of thunder shook the whole house. Candles were lined up along my path to
light my way slightly. As I walked further and further, I approached the end of the
hall where a full sized statue stood. It was standing in shadows and so I had to get
close to see it well. All of a sudden, the statue lifted up his solid steel foot with the
worn sole of his shabby shoe facing me. It was trying to show me something on the
bottom but it was too dark for me to see. I was frightened and began to run in the
opposite direction down the hall. Then I woke up. What could this dream mean for
my life and me? I wanted to find out.
The lightning was one symbol the really stood out from the rest. As a symbol, the

Toshihiro Nakamura, manufacturing engineering section head, examined the
prototype assembly process heet for the newest subnotebook computer model. When
every new model was designed, considerable attention was directed toward; *
reducing the numbers of components, * simplifying parts production and * assembly
requirements.
This new computer s production was scheduled to begin in 10 days. Initial
production for new model was to be at 150 units/day, increasing to 250 units/ day the
following week. Eventually production should reach 300 units/ day.

Descent Of Amida And Twenty Analysis
Two different artists share the same canvas. As trade increases between many
countries, the flow of ideas becomes inevitable to limit. Therefore beliefs and values
intertwine from the
Europe and Asia continent. If we focus on the central figures of each painting, we
are given two examples of the interweaving of ideas in art, specifically in religion;
Welcoming Descent of
Amida and Twenty five Bodhisattvas (ca. 1336) and Diptych with Crucifixion and
Madonna and
Child Enthroned (ca. 1315). Each work was created thousands of miles in distance,
with separate beliefs, and within the century; however, these two works are parallel in
structure. Welcoming

Segna di Bonaventura stresses the ropes by the use of texture we see the angels
are holding their garments showing a certain weight they bear. Also, the ropes of
the Virgin Mary can be seen tugging at her legs, again, the use of texture within her
ropes to show the silk in the cloth in a two dimensional realm. The similarities and
the differences in both of these works are things that could be discussed by many
different people for numerous hours. Hopefully the examples put forth are sufficient
in proving how these similar works are obviously created by different artists who
lived in diverse countries with similar ideologies; to obtain eternal bless for ones
self. Thus, the artists perceived this bless in their work with the use of iconography,
hierarchical scale, and the icons being use; Jesus, halos, mandalas, and mudra. Also,
there are differences with both works such as, spacing and the use of texture. We can
speculate that the worship of idols in both works can be derived from the romans, in
which they idolized their gods with sculptures and figurines.
Therefore, the world however grant, can still be seen as a small place. As both these
Jekyll And Mr Hyde Narrative
Robert Louis Stevenson s late Victorian novella The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and
Mr Hyde was first published in 1886 and is about a lawyer, Mr Utterson, and his
discovery about his client and friend Doctor Jekyll and his relation to the
mysterious Mr Hyde. In order to analyse the narrative structure of The Strange Case
of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, one might first look at a definition of narrative.
Narrative is the representation of an event or a series of events. (Abbott, P. 12)
In the majority of events, the narrative is divided into an opening, also known as the
exposition, followed by a conflict building the climax and an ending presenting the
resolution for before mentioned conflict. The events are always told by a narrator,
whom ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some argue that Dr Lanyon s narrative, too, is confessional, however, in
comparison to Dr Jekyll s statement, Dr Lanyon s narrative is most definitely more
a re telling of events. Dr Jekyll himself states his letter as a confession: Here, then,
as I lay down the pen, and proceed to seal up my confession, [...] (Stevenson, P. 71).
Dr Jekyll s begins his narration before the beginning of events in Story of the Door
, at the time of his childhood. Because of this fact, the following events are more
convincing for the reader. His narration explains everything Mr Utterson had not
been able to resolve and Dr Lanyon had not dared to clarify. If it wasn t for Henry
Jekyll s Full Statement of the Case , the reader would have been left in the
unknown and the suspense of the conflict would have never been resolved. The
reader discovers the creation of Mr Hyde through Dr Jekyll s vision and learns all
about the pure evil nature of Edward Hyde and how he slowly takes over Henry
Jekyll, physically as well as psychologically. Dr Jekyll expresses his own shock and
horror about this turn of events in his experiment and thereby, once more, gains the
reader s sympathy. Jekyll receives punishment for his actions and with his death gives

Essay Health Economics
Cost benefit, cost effectiveness and cost utility analyses are forms of economic
evaluation which are useful in health economics for comparing costs and allocating
resources. Health economics is widely relevant to governments and the health sector
in implementation of new policy, as it concerns the allocation of resources in the
context of a limited budget, or scarcity . Economic evaluation is a potential tool for
setting priorities in health, though it is only one of many potential criteria, including
overall budget and public attitudes and wants. Economic evaluation is already in use
in some settings, such as in pharmaceutical company proposals for government
subsidisation, but there is room for expansion across the field of... Show more content

Changing factors such as aging populations and new technologies becoming available
are increasing expectations from people throughout the world, and decision makers
must make rational choices to maximise benefits to population health whilst working
with limited resources. Yothasamut et al (2009) summarise this by observing that
health care resources in every setting are always constrained, while unlimited demand
is observed . The best choices in the context of economics are the ones which
maximise utility (individual satisfaction through consumption of goods) and welfare,
the sum utility experienced by all individuals in society. Decision makers often have
to seek satisfactory rather than optimal solutions, also known as working with
bounded rationality (Simon 1957 in Williams et al 2008), as it is important to pursue
both efficiency and equity in the funding of health care. Therefore, it may be
unsuitable to fund the most cost effective option if it sacrifices the equal distribution
of benefits. Research in health economics can take a normative or positive approach
and this reflects the balance needed between cost control and equity when making
economic decisions. Positive economic research and analysis is concerned with how
things are and seeks to explain economic phenomena, whilst normative economic
research and analysis is concerned with how things ought to be and relies on value
Summary Of Two Cafeterias By Virginia Woolf
In the story, Two Cafeterias by Virginia Woolf, she describes two meals she was
served at a university visit. Throughout the story the author displays her underlying
attitude toward women s place in society. She began with a luncheon part[y] at the
men s college. Already, it becomes very evident that the men s mealis going to be
very lavish. The lunchcommenced with soles, a fish that was sunk in a deep dish.
The chef had put the whitest cream on the sole, and made it spread so that the
spots looked like the spots on the flanks of a doe. This shows how ornamental and
extravagant the meal truly was. Next, the silent servingman brought out partridges.
The men are provided with a silent server so they can continue their extensive
discussions. The partridges were accompanied by a retinue of sauces. The men got
a wide variety of sauces to meet each of their own individual tastes, and since they
are men, this is what they deserve. Soon after, the dessert was brought out. The
dessert was pudding. The author stated however, that to call it pudding was an
insult. The meal was over, but no one got up to leave. There was no need to hurry
because no one had to get up early to go to class. Life was extremely effortless for
the men. Everything they ever needed seemed to be presented to them on a silver
platter. Rather than hurrying out, the servers brought them more flushed yellow and
flushed crimson wine. All the men got to sit around and talk about how good life

Leonardo Da Vinci A Renaissance Man
William Byrd and Leonardo Da Vinci and the composer and artist duo that I have
chosen from the Renaissance era or music and art. As Leonardo Da Vinci was born
on April 15, 1452 in a city called Vinci, Republic of Florence which today is not
modern day Italy and died on May 2, 1519 at the age of 67 in the city of Amboise,
Kingdom of France. Da Vinci was more known as an artist and scientist, but was also
an inventor, architect, musician, mathmation, engineer, astronomy, writer, historian,
and geologist. So you could say that Da Vinci was a Renaissance man, meaning that
he was pretty much good at everything he did. Da Vinci s most notable works of art
were the Mona Lisa, The Last Supper, The Vitruvian Man, and the Lady with an
Ermine. Da... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Da Vinci s artwork of The Last Supper is as a piece of art that captures the moment
of Christ just after he tells his disciples that one of them will betray him is a very
influential moment of the bible and is beautifully depicted in this art work. I
believe this work of art is a stand alone piece of art that is great in that it shows
Christ in the moment having his hands spread apart showing that they are pointed
at a piece of bread and a glass of wine. Which in turn represents the body of Christ
in the bread and the blood of Christ in the wine, which is the sacrament. What is
also interesting about the painting is that Jesus s hand that is reaching for the wine
is also near a dish on the table which Judas is reaching for symbolizing that fact that
Judas is the one who betrays Jesus and has a bag of silver in his other hand in the
painting. As for William Byrd, I believe his music is beautiful in the fact that it is
very calming and easy listening, which makes me just want to listen to more of it.
His style of music reminds me of the Gothic era of music in a way because of the
deep echo voices in the background, but it has more to it as the other singers bring a
more full sound to the piece of music and make the texture a nice soft but abrasive
type of listening that has emotion in its sound. I enthusiastically enjoyed
The Nineteen Five Theses On The Power And Efficacy Of...
When Martin Luther wrote the Ninety Five Theses on the Power and Efficacy of
Indulgences in 1517, he was making a bold and unprecedented move: challenging
the Catholic Church. As a German Catholic priest himself, Luther was not afraid to
condemn the Catholic Church, even publicly, which is how he displayed the
original copy of the theses. Luther s issue with the church wasn t personal but was
instead based on what he saw as violation of the religious morals and teachings of
God. For example, he highly disapproved the church s several claims of salvation and
forgiveness on earth. The ninety five thesesacted as Luther s tool of protest against the
church and also acted as enlightenment to the masses. Publication of the theses is also
often noted as the spark that initiated the Protestant Reformationafter centuries of
religious tension buildup. Luther s overall disapproval was against the corruption and
dishonesty of the church (Bishop, p.1). In the theses, Luther outlined what and how
he believed the Catholic Churchwas doing wrong and how it should be corrected. He
argues against the church s abuse of power and the way it took advantage of its
members. What the ninety five theses did was outline two major points: the selling
and buying of indulgences as well as the issue of purgatory regarding to God, the
Catholic Church and the Pope.
The forefront issue in the ninety five theses deals with indulgences. Luther delves
deeply into how and why indulgences were sold by the
Pillow Angel Case Study
PILLOW ANGEL The pillow angel is a reference to a child born with a mental
disability and the parent s ethics in taking care of this child. The term pillow angel
is a name given to Ashley by her family members (Amy Burkholder, 2007). Ashley
was born with static encephalopathy which is a severe brain impairment that leaves
her unable to walk, talk, eat, sit up, or roll over (Hastings Report Center, pg.16).
The parents set a plan to secure the long term comfort ability of their daughter and
their ability to take care of her. Ashley s parents wanted to stunt her growth with
hormones to retain her small frame and reduce the chances of medical problems
such as bedsores if she became too large to move. This plan was called The Ashley

Ashley will also not be as fussy when she has menstrual cramping and does not
understand why she is in pain. It will reduce Ashley s chances of getting ovarian

more possible to include her in the typical family life and activities that provide her
with needed comfort, closeness, security and love (Nancy Gibbs, 2007). Dr.
Gunther may or may not have committed suicide indirectly to this issue. The
hospital was hit by ethicist and had to apologize for their movements without a
court room. Luckily no chargers were pressed on either the doctor or the hospital.
The pillow angel has been a hit in the media industry. As for all the support the
parents have received, this group now brings awareness to the difficulties of raising
children with severe brain damage. As a total it would be more ethical for Ashley to
undergo the surgeries and live at her happiest with her devoted
How Is Blanche Dubois A Tragic Hero
In A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams, Blanche Dubois is the tragic
hero of the work. She is a confident woman who is capable of doing great things.
However, her own flaws and circumstances both go hand and hand and lead to her
downfall. There were multiple things that were completely out of Blanche s
control that led to the eventual mental breakdown. The first of many is the loss of
her childhood home and family. Blanche s sister, Stella, had already left her to go
build a life with her husband, so when she continues to lose things that tie her to the
place she grew up, it plays a big role in her mental instability. Blanche is clearly
shaken when telling her sister that she lost Belle Reve, Stella describes her episode

destruction is Stanley raping her. (130) Stanley had a clear distaste for her since the

seen advancements in the media aspect (VHS, DVD s, and television), cell phones

would be DVD s. DVD s have expanded so much since their release in 1996, they
have become more detailed, high def, and affordable compared to other
technology costs. During this research I will try and help you learn the history of
the DVD, the knowledge of how DVD s were created, and the different types of
DVD s there are. When it comes to DVD s how many of us actually no the process
of them being made or when they were actually produced? Not many, we know that
they have been around for years and have progressed in different types of DVD s

The Realms Of Life Is Defined As A Lifestyle
Wellness in practice is defined as a lifestyle, in which a person consciously attempts
to balance the realms of their life (Test 1). The realms of life are defined as career,
emotional, environmental, financial, spiritual, physical, social, and intellectual
(Office of Health; Seligman 2011). Personally an individual can benefit their general
wellness through recognizing the choices that affect these realms and understanding
the repercussions of these choices; however, the industries of today s world can also
benefit wellness by providing an environment that promotes healthier choices. In

These costs go towards gas for vehicles which are needed to get to and from the
housing options and in maintaining the personal kitchen and bathroom units which
are not available in the old options. This adds an additional financial burden to
students who are already struggling with the costs of the attending the University in
general. In addition to the change to the cost of housing options Clarion also falls
short in the physical wellness. The school only has one real fitness center where
students are able to exercise which is located towards the bottom of the campus. The
recreational center is readily accessible for students whose housing is closest to the
center of campus; however this becomes a problem for the students living in the
suites on Main, Wilkinson, and Nair which are located at the bottom of the hill on the
completely opposite side of the campus. It is simple human nature that the students
are not likely to choose to go too far out of their way to maintain wellness. Students
in these housing options have to go out of their way in simply making the trip; this
is then intensified by the addition of the weather. To fix this the University could add
smaller fitness centers in the basements of each of the dorms. These need only to
include simple free weights which are cheap to buy and require

Nuclear energy is a big trend that many nations are strategically moving towards. As
a result, the OPEC nations whose economies are reliant on oil exporting are taking a
hit for the worse. For example, Saudi Arabia is considered the world s largest oil
producer. According to Investopedia it produces 13.24% of the oil consumed daily
for the world. It has the second largest oil reserve compared to Venezuela.
However, the U.S. Energy Information Administration shows that the United States
out produced the world in total petroleum and other liquids (biofuels, liquids

was as follows: United States 13,973,000 barrels per day (bbl/day), Saudi Arabia
11,624,000 bbl/day, Russia 10,853,000 bbl/day, China 4,572,000 bbl/day, and
Canada 4,383,000 bbl/day. If one does the math: the United States produced 31%
of the total petroleum and other fluids in a day whereas Saudi Arabia produced
25.6% (percentages out of top five producers only). It is important to note, in the
top five producing countries, there is only one OPEC nation. United Arab Emirates,
Iran, and Iraq are fourth, fifth, and sixth in the rankings. Currently, Saudi Arabia
wants to continue producing a surplus of oil because it wants to still be a major
player whereas smaller OPEC countries involved want to curb production so oil can

In this case, I think it is the landlord s responsibility. Roger contacted Larry on
several different occasions. Every time Larry blew him off. As a result in Larry
blowing him off, Roger s belongings were damaged by the water. The result of that,
Roger threw a baseball bat and caused damaged to the wall. The damage to the wall
is what Roger is responsible for. He did it out of anger because Larry would not come
and fix the leaking roof. He was wrong for doing. Yes it can be frustrating, waiting
for someone to come and fix a leaking roof. Knowing that it rains a lot in the area.
All he had to do was keep records of every time he contacted Larry and Larry did
nothing about it. If Larry continued to ignore Roger about the leaking roof, Roger
had every right to bring upon legal proceedings against Larry. Larry would then be
responsible for the damage caused by the leaking roof. I do not believe that the
damaged wall of socket should have to play any role in the case of the leaking roof.
That would be whole different case. In which Roger is held liable because he did
state that it was something that resulted from Larry s lack of ability to fix the leaking
roof.
Determine whether or not Larry has legal grounds to evict Roger. Explain why or
why not.
I do not see where Larry has any permissible evidence to evict Roger. That does not
mean that he would not try. If he tried to evict him he would not be successful. He
has no reason to evict him. So if he wants him out
Analysis Of Lennie In Of Mice And Men
Lennie: Perfectly Performed John Malkovich s first film was Places in the Heart,
which was in 1984. Eight years later he starred in Gary Sinise and Horton Footes
adaptation of John Steinbeck s novella Of Mice and Men. The directing from
Sinise and Foote, with performance of John Malkovich as Lennie made Lennie
feel as if he was ripped out of the book and became a real person. This helps the
audience connect to Lennie s character, giving the readers/ viewers more empathy
by slipping into the shoes of Lennie. The Mannerisms, speech impediments, and how
the directors use lighting made Lennie s character genuine. Lennie has distinctive
mannerisms, and traits in certain situations. After the Red Dress scene, when
George and Lennie get on the Train and they are getting ready to sleep, it is very
clear that Lennie copies multiple of George s actions. This shows right away that
Lennie looks up to George and thinks of George as a leader. Throughout the movie
and especially highlighted when George and Lennie are walking to the barn, Lennie
is constantly pulling his overalls up. This could imply that he doesn t know how to
tighten his pants, or in the most extreme possibility, that George might dress Lennie.
With the inclusion of this idiosyncrasy it makes Lennie s character authentic because
of his normal day problems. Next, an ample amount of the time Lennie likes to hold
his left hand hovering in his chest region, Lennie doesn t let his hand drop. This
illustrates Lennie s

Persuasive Essay On Cell Phones

  • 1. Persuasive Essay On Cell Phones Crafting a persuasive essay on the topic of cell phones is no walk in the park. While these devices have become an integral part of our daily lives, navigating the myriad of arguments and counterarguments can be quite challenging. The debate around cell phones encompasses a wide range of issues, from their impact on communication and social interactions to concerns about privacy and health. Firstly, delving into the positives and negatives of cell phone usage requires careful consideration. One must tread lightly on the fine line between acknowledging the convenience they bring to our lives and addressing the potential drawbacks, such as the erosion of face-to- face communication or the addictive nature of constant connectivity. Additionally, exploring the impact on academic and workplace settings demands a nuanced approach, recognizing both the benefits and distractions that cell phones can pose. Addressing the health implications of cell phone usage introduces another layer of complexity. Navigating the scientific studies and debates surrounding radiation exposure, eye strain, and the potential long-term effects requires a keen understanding of the subject matter. Presenting evidence in a persuasive manner while avoiding alarmism or downplaying legitimate concerns demands careful research and attention to detail. Furthermore, constructing a compelling argument necessitates addressing opposing viewpoints. Anticipating and refuting counterarguments requires a thorough understanding of the perspectives that might challenge the essay's stance. Striking a balance between acknowledging valid concerns and reinforcing the essay's position is crucial for a persuasive and well-rounded piece. In conclusion, writing a persuasive essay on cell phones requires a thorough examination of multiple facets, from societal implications to health concerns. It demands a delicate balance between acknowledging the benefits and drawbacks while presenting a compelling argument that persuades the reader to align with the author's viewpoint. For those seeking assistance with similar essays or any writing challenges, various resources are available, including professional writing services likeHelpWriting.net. • 2. Disciple Of The Local Church DISCIPLE MAKING IN THE LOCAL CHURCH A Written Assignment 3 Cynthia Taylor DSMN 500 B10 September, 2014 SUMMARY According to Early Dempsey, a disciple is a person, while discipleship is a process. A disciple is a passionate follower of Jesus Christ who is intimately involved in the mission of Christ. On the other hand, discipleship is the process of moving the disciple towards spiritual maturity and the mission of Christ. Being a disciple is God s perfect will for every individual life; however, discipleship is God s will for every individual church [1] The Great Commission denotes that disciples must be made. Many worship opportunities have been provided by the church such as fellowship, bible study and church events that will aid in developing the mind set of Christ, being obedient to the commands of Christ, engaging in his commission and being transformed into His image. According to Jesus disciples need to be made and informed. How disciple are made? According to Disciple Shift, pastor and author Jim Putman describes diverse stages of spiritual growth with simplicity. In defining these five spiritual growth stages he informs the reader of their beliefs and how the local church and a Christian community should implement a plan to help individuals to maturity in reaching these stages: spiritually dead, spiritual infants, spiritual children, spiritual young adults, and spiritual parents. Spiritually dead the first stage comprising of sinners, unsaved

  • 5. Cruelty In Kingsolver s The Poisonwood Bible The Theme of Cruelty in The Poisonwood Bible In Kingsolvers novel,The Poisonwood Bible, the characters are subjected to physical and physiological cruelty due to the actions and imperiousness of the perpetrator and antagonist Nathan Price. The Poisonwood Bible is told in a series of chronological accounts from the women of Price family in which the reader sees the cruelty and misfortune they endure in their everyday life in the Congo. In the end, cruelty pushes the Price family to the breaking point and the whole family decides to leave Nathan in the village as he loses what is little left of his sanity. Although Nathan s motives for forcing his family from 1950s urban America to the village Congo may be genuinely good, his ignorance... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout the novel, Nathan exhibits cruelty towards his family and the villagers. Cruelty is a direct antonym of Love. Looking back to the Bible, Paul states in a letter to the: And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love ( New International Version, 1 Corinthians 13:13). While Nathan may be spreading faith and hope, because of his cruelty, he is certainly not showing love, which according to scripture is the most important. Instead of loving his wife Orleanna, Nathan rebukes her many times for no reason and even acts out in physical cruelty by roughly batting Orleanna away as she tried to nurse his wounds. Nathan s actions are again hypocritical and go directly against the Bible says. Paul, in another letter, writes Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her. (Ephesians 5:25). Ultimately Nathan is not able to convince any of the villagers to be baptized because he has not showed love and therefore not God to them. John, another apostle, states to a church that is struggling with false prophets: Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love (1 John 4:8). One may conclude from these verses that even though Nathan Price may have some knowledge of the Bible, he truly does not know God,
  • 6. Positive And Negative Effects Of Tobacco Just because something may make someone feel good it does not mean that it is good for them. Like many people say too much of anything is bad for you. Alcohol, drugs, and tobacco are by no chance an exception. They are honestly quite the opposite considering how many negative effects they cause people each year. Alcohol, drugs, and tobacco after being abused will lead to an unhealthy life that will keep people from enjoying life since they are at higher risk of many diseases that may or may not be fatal. Alcohol is used by many people and has become an important part of life throughout the whole world. Alcohol use has become widespread and has become almost inextricably linked with a number of social, cultural, and religious events. When consumed in moderation, alcohol is relatively safe and, in some cases, even provide the users with limited health benefits. An example being how research has shown that drinking moderate amounts of alcohol may protect healthy adults from developing coronary heart disease (NIAAA). Low levels of intoxication are likely to result in increased sociability and euphoria. On the other hand, higher levels of alcohol consumption can result in sedation and dangerously low pulse and breathing rate. Alcohol use causes many different types of injuries, including injuries from road traffic accidents, assaults and falls (Alcohol the Body Health Effects). This is usually because high levels of blood alcohol impair the brain s thought processes and

Ans: International Operations management and corporate strategy: Operations management of an International business needs to be integrated with the firm s corporate strategy. The central role of operations managementis to create the potential for achieving superior value for the firm. If operations management takes Rs. 100 worth of inputs and brings out product worth Rs. 150, it has crated considerable value for the firm. Minimize inventory, materials handling, and other non value added costs. 5. Reduce development and production cycle times 6. Improve efficiency 7. • 9. Theme Of Colonialism In The Quiet American The Quiet American written by Graham Greene is set in the first Indochina war in Vietnam. The novel reflects on the opening stages of American involvement in the conflict between Vietnam and French, which led to the war. Greene uses the relationships between the characters Fowler, Pyle, and Phuong to symbolize the position of each country in this international dispute. The novel mainly explores the shades of unusual European social and political relations with Vietnamthrough the character Fowler and Phuong. Moreover, The Quiet Americandepicts the unique perspective of the dominant country and subordinate country in the colonialism symbolically through Fowler and Phuong. He has not spent all his effort on Phuong for the possibility that he might go back to England if his wife does not agree to divorce him. However he desperately obtains the benefits of living with Phuong. Such position of Fowler shows Europe s selfish desire to maintain colonial power over Vietnam, blocking the autonomy of the subservient country. However, there is an unexpected ambiguity in Fowler s feeling, as even though Fowler treats Phuong as an object, he still has a deep attachment to her that he weeps at the possibility of losing her (394). While Fowler refers to Phuong as a hooked fish (30), the revelation of the unfortunate role of Vietnamese women, at the same time he said that Dante never thought up that turn of the screw for his condemned lovers. Paolo was never promoted to Purgatory. (35), comparing him and Phuong to Paolo and Francesca, Fowler valued their eternal love with the fear that their love will end up as a tragedy. All these emotions of Fowler show how the dominant country indeed desires the colony on multiple levels, as a servant like figure or a companion, or even a

In The Demon Lover, Kathleen Drover is the protagonist and represents a British wife and mother who returned from the country to her war ravaged home in London hoping to retrieve some of her family s personal belongings. Mrs. Drover s story unfolds as a haunting of supernatural means driven by the ghostof her sweetheart, an un named soldier presumed to have been killed during World War Itwenty five years earlier. The dark imagery of the story is craft fully controlled by Bowen and fosters a heavy sense of circumstance, anxiety, and even ambiguity, which transports the reader through nightmarish stages of suspense and ultimately horror. The tone of The Demon Loveris initially set by Bowen as Drover returns to her abandoned, gloomy, London street in anticipation of a quick gathering of personal belongings from her boarded up, delapitated former home. Even the bruise in the wallpaper assumes a damaged position and a haunting significance. The ambiguity of Bowen s ending of The Demon Lover fits perfectly as the final destination of Drover s taxi ride is uncertain, but Bowen s imagery throughout the story emphasizes the idea that through descriptive language and some horror, the forgotten past exists in Kathleen s mind to haunt the
  • 11. Reflection Of Paleinography In Paleography Until I took this course, FHGEN130 Paleography, I did not have a full understanding of what paleography truly was. I understood that by taking this class, I could gain the ability to read records with which I had been having no luck with. Little did I know, that there are so many different scripts to learn and decipher. I now understand the reason why I struggled with reading the records and documents about my ancestors that I had been gathering. Since beginning this course, I now know of and can read the following scripts: Palmer, Copperplate Round Hand, Italic, Spencerian, and Secretary Hand. The first script that I learned is the Palmer script. Austin Norman Palmer developed the Palmer Script in the 1870s and, it was prominent in the 1960s. Palmer is italic cursive letters and designed to be more of a masculine handwriting than an ornamental script. This writing system was intended to allow the body to perform efficiently by emphasizing position and posture. Public schools taught this script and businesses often used it. The next script that we studied was Copperplate Round Hand Script (Copperplate). The Copperplate script began developing in England in the 1600s. The colonies and England used Copperplate script from the 1600s through the 1800s. Thin upstrokes, thicker downstrokes, and fluid shaded letters are what make this script so recognizable. The Constitution and Declaration of Independence are both written in this script. Some official documents today, such as diplomas and certificates, still use Copperplate to add a sense of formal recognition. An additional script that I studied was developed by Niccolo Niccoli. He developed the Italic script in Italy during the 1420 s. The Italic script was based on the Humanistic miniscule and designed because he felt that the lowercase minuscules took too long to form. The slightly sloped Italic script was quicker to write due to fewer strokes and joined letters. Although the Italic script fell out of use with the scribes when around the 1550s when the printing press was invented, it influenced the Copperplate Script and additional developments have been made to this script in the 20th century. It has since been used to teach cursive and by many

  • 16. The Russian Revolution Of 1917 The Russian Revolution of 1917 involved the collapse of an empire under Tsar Nicholas II and the rise of Marxian socialism under Lenin and his Bolsheviks. It sparked the beginning of a new era in Russia that had effects on countries around the world. In the years leading up to the Russian Revolution of 1917, the country had a succession of wars. These were, The Crimean War (1854 56), The Russo Turkish War (1877 78), The Russo Japanese War (1904 1905), and World War I(1914 18). All of these required a lot from the state, including tax dollars and manpower. Russia suffered defeat in all, except against Turkey. This series of war caused great discontent among the people and caused suffering in the country s economy and government. Along with these wars, there were three major parties that contributed to the cause of the revolution. First, there were the peasants, who maintained the majority of the population in Russia. They were excessively poor and could barely escape famine from harvest to harvest. The population boom in Russia from 1867 1896 was felt most drastically by the peasants. The increase of 30 million people in less than 30 years was too great that the land to the peasants disposal did not increase sufficiently. The government tried to help, but war took precedence. Second, there was a rise of the industrial working class. These workers were employed in the mines, factories and workshops of the major cities. They suffered low wages, poor housing and many

In the past, the expression of these rights would almost always be public, but with the introduction of computers and the Internet, there are countless opportunities for anyone to voice his or her mind on a variety of websites and forums. With such an effective avenue to have your voice heard, it is not surprising that many people take advantage of the Internet to discuss issues they have with several topics ranging from government and politics to company policies. The right to speak out against the government is explicitly protected by the Bill of Rights, but the rules of speaking out against a private company are not so transparent. If an employee says something online that is to the detriment of the company the employee works for, either by defaming the company or breaking the company s set of rules, should the employee s right to free speech have higher precedence than the company s right to uphold its rules? One case that perfectly portrays this debate is Google s recent firing of its former employee, James Damore, due to a controversial memo that Damore posted. After attending a private Google summit that Damore perceived to be pushing diversity, Damore decided that he needed to express his opinions on the matter.(3) He decided to do this through a memo that would be posted on one of Google s internal discussion boards.(6)

I was frightened and began to run in the opposite direction down the hall. Then I woke up. What could this dream mean for my life and me? I wanted to find out. It is generally a positive dream symbol which represents the dreamers awakened state of consciousness. The form of the lightning could transform its meaning. If you see strong lightning in your dream you will find yourself the recipient of a fantastic money making idea that really works. Jekyll And Mr Hyde Narrative Robert Louis Stevenson s late Victorian novella The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde was first published in 1886 and is about a lawyer, Mr Utterson, and his discovery about his client and friend Doctor Jekyll and his relation to the mysterious Mr Hyde. In order to analyse the narrative structure of The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, one might first look at a definition of narrative. Narrative is the representation of an event or a series of events. (Abbott, P. 12) In the majority of events, the narrative is divided into an opening, also known as the exposition, followed by a conflict building the climax and an ending presenting the resolution for before mentioned conflict. Some argue that Dr Lanyon s narrative, too, is confessional, however, in comparison to Dr Jekyll s statement, Dr Lanyon s narrative is most definitely more a re telling of events. Dr Jekyll himself states his letter as a confession: Here, then, as I lay down the pen, and proceed to seal up my confession, [...] (Stevenson, P. 71). Dr Jekyll s begins his narration before the beginning of events in Story of the Door , at the time of his childhood. Because of this fact, the following events are more convincing for the reader. His narration explains everything Mr Utterson had not been able to resolve and Dr Lanyon had not dared to clarify. If it wasn t for Henry Jekyll s Full Statement of the Case , the reader would have been left in the unknown and the suspense of the conflict would have never been resolved. The reader discovers the creation of Mr Hyde through Dr Jekyll s vision and learns all about the pure evil nature of Edward Hyde and how he slowly takes over Henry Jekyll, physically as well as psychologically. Dr Jekyll expresses his own shock and horror about this turn of events in his experiment and thereby, once more, gains the reader s sympathy. Jekyll receives punishment for his actions and with his death gives the ending a full

Essay Health Economics Cost benefit, cost effectiveness and cost utility analyses are forms of economic evaluation which are useful in health economics for comparing costs and allocating resources. Health economics is widely relevant to governments and the health sector in implementation of new policy, as it concerns the allocation of resources in the context of a limited budget, or scarcity . Economic evaluation is a potential tool for setting priorities in health, though it is only one of many potential criteria, including overall budget and public attitudes and wants. Economic evaluation is already in use in some settings, such as in pharmaceutical company proposals for government subsidisation, but there is room for expansion across the field of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Changing factors such as aging populations and new technologies becoming available are increasing expectations from people throughout the world, and decision makers must make rational choices to maximise benefits to population health whilst working with limited resources. Yothasamut et al (2009) summarise this by observing that health care resources in every setting are always constrained, while unlimited demand is observed . The best choices in the context of economics are the ones which maximise utility (individual satisfaction through consumption of goods) and welfare, the sum utility experienced by all individuals in society. Decision makers often have to seek satisfactory rather than optimal solutions, also known as working with bounded rationality (Simon 1957 in Williams et al 2008), as it is important to pursue both efficiency and equity in the funding of health care. Therefore, it may be unsuitable to fund the most cost effective option if it sacrifices the equal distribution of benefits. Research in health economics can take a normative or positive approach and this reflects the balance needed between cost control and equity when making economic decisions. Positive economic research and analysis is concerned with how things are and seeks to explain economic phenomena, whilst normative economic research and analysis is concerned with how things ought to be and relies on value

Already, it becomes very evident that the men s mealis going to be very lavish. The lunchcommenced with soles, a fish that was sunk in a deep dish. The chef had put the whitest cream on the sole, and made it spread so that the spots looked like the spots on the flanks of a doe. This shows how ornamental and extravagant the meal truly was. Next, the silent servingman brought out partridges. The men are provided with a silent server so they can continue their extensive discussions. The partridges were accompanied by a retinue of sauces. The men got a wide variety of sauces to meet each of their own individual tastes, and since they are men, this is what they deserve. Soon after, the dessert was brought out. The dessert was pudding. The author stated however, that to call it pudding was an insult. The meal was over, but no one got up to leave. There was no need to hurry because no one had to get up early to go to class. Life was extremely effortless for the men. Everything they ever needed seemed to be presented to them on a silver platter. Rather than hurrying out, the servers brought them more flushed yellow and flushed crimson wine. All the men got to sit around and talk about how good life

Da Vinci s artwork of The Last Supper is as a piece of art that captures the moment of Christ just after he tells his disciples that one of them will betray him is a very influential moment of the bible and is beautifully depicted in this art work. I believe this work of art is a stand alone piece of art that is great in that it shows Christ in the moment having his hands spread apart showing that they are pointed at a piece of bread and a glass of wine. Which in turn represents the body of Christ in the bread and the blood of Christ in the wine, which is the sacrament. What is also interesting about the painting is that Jesus s hand that is reaching for the wine is also near a dish on the table which Judas is reaching for symbolizing that fact that Judas is the one who betrays Jesus and has a bag of silver in his other hand in the painting. As for William Byrd, I believe his music is beautiful in the fact that it is very calming and easy listening, which makes me just want to listen to more of it. His style of music reminds me of the Gothic era of music in a way because of the deep echo voices in the background, but it has more to it as the other singers bring a more full sound to the piece of music and make the texture a nice soft but abrasive type of listening that has emotion in its sound. I enthusiastically enjoyed

As a German Catholic priest himself, Luther was not afraid to condemn the Catholic Church, even publicly, which is how he displayed the original copy of the theses. Luther s issue with the church wasn t personal but was instead based on what he saw as violation of the religious morals and teachings of God. For example, he highly disapproved the church s several claims of salvation and forgiveness on earth. The ninety five thesesacted as Luther s tool of protest against the church and also acted as enlightenment to the masses. Publication of the theses is also often noted as the spark that initiated the Protestant Reformationafter centuries of religious tension buildup. Luther s overall disapproval was against the corruption and dishonesty of the church (Bishop, p.1). In the theses, Luther outlined what and how he believed the Catholic Churchwas doing wrong and how it should be corrected. He argues against the church s abuse of power and the way it took advantage of its members. What the ninety five theses did was outline two major points: the selling and buying of indulgences as well as the issue of purgatory regarding to God, the Catholic Church and the Pope. The forefront issue in the ninety five theses deals with indulgences. Luther delves deeply into how and why indulgences were sold by the

Eight years later he starred in Gary Sinise and Horton Footes adaptation of John Steinbeck s novella Of Mice and Men. The directing from Sinise and Foote, with performance of John Malkovich as Lennie made Lennie feel as if he was ripped out of the book and became a real person. This helps the audience connect to Lennie s character, giving the readers/ viewers more empathy by slipping into the shoes of Lennie. The Mannerisms, speech impediments, and how the directors use lighting made Lennie s character genuine. Lennie has distinctive mannerisms, and traits in certain situations. After the Red Dress scene, when George and Lennie get on the Train and they are getting ready to sleep, it is very clear that Lennie copies multiple of George s actions. This shows right away that Lennie looks up to George and thinks of George as a leader. Throughout the movie and especially highlighted when George and Lennie are walking to the barn, Lennie is constantly pulling his overalls up. This could imply that he doesn t know how to tighten his pants, or in the most extreme possibility, that George might dress Lennie. With the inclusion of this idiosyncrasy it makes Lennie s character authentic because of his normal day problems. Next, an ample amount of the time Lennie likes to hold his left hand hovering in his chest region, Lennie doesn t let his hand drop. This illustrates Lennie s
