Psychotherapy Defined
is therapy for a person's mental or emotional
problems (psycho, mind, + therapy), typically
by conversing with another person (talk
therapy). This other person may be a
psychiatrist, psychologist, counselor, clinical
social worker, member of the clergy,
alternative practitioner, or (to use the concept
in its broadest sense) any helpful person.
Person-centered Therapy
Defined
- also known as person-centred
counseling or client-centred
counseling.
- is a humanistic approach that
deals with the ways in which
individuals perceive themselves
consciously rather than how a
counselor can interpret their
unconscious thoughts or ideas.
Person-centered Core
Conditions:
 Congruence - the counselor
must be completely genuine.
 Unconditional positive regard -
the counselor must be non-
judgmental.
 Empathy - the counselor must
strive to understand the client's
point of view.
Gestalt Therapy Defined
refers to a form of psychotherapy that
derives from the gestalt school of
thought. It was developed in the late
1940s by Fritz Perls and is guided by
the relational theory principle that
every individual is a “whole” (mind,
body and soul), and that they are best
understood in relation to their current
situation as he or she experiences it.
Gestalt Therapy Techniques:

 Discussing Dreams ("What are you aware
of now?")
 Attention to Body

Logotherapy Defined:

Logotherapy is based on
the premise that the
human person is
motivated by a “will to
meaning,” an inner pull
to find a meaning in life.

  • 33. Psychotherapy Defined is therapy for a person's mental or emotional problems (psycho, mind, + therapy), typically by conversing with another person (talk therapy). This other person may be a psychiatrist, psychologist, counselor, clinical social worker, member of the clergy, alternative practitioner, or (to use the concept in its broadest sense) any helpful person.
  • 34. Person-centered Therapy Defined - also known as person-centred counseling or client-centred counseling. - is a humanistic approach that deals with the ways in which individuals perceive themselves consciously rather than how a counselor can interpret their unconscious thoughts or ideas.
  • 35. Person-centered Core Conditions:  Congruence - the counselor must be completely genuine.  Unconditional positive regard - the counselor must be non- judgmental.  Empathy - the counselor must strive to understand the client's point of view.
  • 36. Gestalt Therapy Defined refers to a form of psychotherapy that derives from the gestalt school of thought. It was developed in the late 1940s by Fritz Perls and is guided by the relational theory principle that every individual is a “whole” (mind, body and soul), and that they are best understood in relation to their current situation as he or she experiences it.
