1. Personal statement
I wouldlove to study creative media in the sports journalismsection because it isa very great way of expressing my
personality andcreativity. The media industry is also full of differentcultures, styles, diversity andformsof teamwork
whichI am passionate about andwouldwant to interact with andstudy furthermore in higher education. I gainedthe
interest for the industry by listening to, watching andanalysing varioustypesof media, fromclassical music to modern
day artists, fromhorror moviesto nature programs. Furthermore, I am intriguedaboutthe industry by watching and
listening to media products and analysing the meaning andwhat message it showsto the audience. My interestfor sports
journalismdevelopedfroma young age asI am passionate about football and SunderlandA.F.C andother sports suchas
UFC andboxing.
I wouldlike to work in the media industry andtravel the world in order to learn about differentcultures andtraditions,
while reporting the beautiful game of football whichisa constant in nearly every country. Id love to use my degree in
the industry to expresshow the support, inspiration, positivity, prosperity andmost importantly equality of the sport
shows a wholesomenessand the bringing of people together andcreating one big community whichspansthe world.
Throughout the years of college education I have acquiredmultiple skills, includingthose of teamwork, research and
analysis, rational problemsolving, technical skillsin media, experience in diegetic, non diegeticandfoley sounds,
communication andthe theory of media (studying the purpose of product andeffect in hason audiences.). Those skills
are used in all the media industry andday to day life. The skillsthat I have developedin work experience are teamwork,
media terminology, the use of music software’sandmusic production, photoshop editing, media theory, Analysisand
researchfor clients, cultural education (researchinto differentcultures andthe understanding of people), video
creating andediting, camera operating, documenting/reporting. I also acquiredthe skill and knowledge to create digital
print adverts andvideo interviewsanddocumentaries. I work part time at a cinema aspart of the hospitality team to
make sure everything iswell organised for clientsandcustomers, whichincludesitsown challengesincluding timekeeping
and the ability to speak to members of the public.
In the past three academic yearsI have workedon numerousprojects. In one of the projects, whichwasthe Smile
Campaign for a mental health charity, I conductedresearch on mental heath statistics in the UK andits effects on men
and women variousages. For the main piece of work I created a print advert whichdemonstrates three chapters of
recovery to a healthy mindset, complete with slogansto send a positive message. I also workedon a project called
culture in the digital age where I completed researchinto my environmentandsocial media andthe effectit has on
people within my demographic. For this project I created a short documentary interview where I used greenscreen
effects and interviewedmy college friendaboutthe digital evolution of music, movie, gaming, socialising andthe effects
the internet and technology have on younger generations.
In daily life, I am really compassionate, friendly andhelpful towardother people especially the ones that are struggling.
I am an open minded, people’sperson that lovesdiversity andbringing differentpeople andcultures together. I like to
think outside the box and use my mind to its full potential and be as positive, creative andhelpful asI can. I findthis
often helps my teammates and general people aroundme complete tasks and solve problems. As a person withseveral
mental health difficulties, I took the time to study the human mind andbehaviour, andalso the healthy strategies to
deal andovercome those issues. This helps me to analyse andunderstand people that I meet andto create a healthy,
safe and prosperousenvironmentfor all. Studying nature isalso one of my qualitiesasI am obsessed with wildlife,
nature andthe globe. From a very young age I waspassionate about AncientHistory, including the Earth and its people.
Now as a young man I am well educated on a variety of history topics in humanity, nature andanimal life.
Universities shouldpick me astheir student, as I am a compassionate, open-mindedperson witha hard work ethic and a
creative mind. I want to mix withdifferentcultures anda diverse range of people in higher education to learn and share
knowledge. For a person with mental health issuesI see the world as it isin black and white. I feel this givesme the
dedication to use my skill, knowledge andcompassion to add some colour to everything I do. It also helps me to create a
welcoming, accepting, equal, positive andprosperoussocial andeducational environmentfor fellow students andmyself.
I feel this viewpointwouldmake me an excellentcandidate for any university due to my drive andpassion, andability to
translate my knowledge andexperience to everything I do
