Personal Development Reflection
As a social work student, I often apply what I learn to my own life first. Using theories discussed
through many of my courses, I will analyze my own personal development. Important moments in
my life such as early childhood, early adulthood, and family and peer dynamics aspects to consider
when thinking about my life up to this point. Early Childhood During early childhood, bodies and
minds develop very quickly. Because these developments are made in the areas of motor, language,
and cognition, it is easiest to understand them through the medical model. I will use Ainsworth's
styles of attachment, Chess and Thomas' temperament styles, and caregiving styles to explain my
development through this early stage of life. Ainsworth Mary Ainsworth uses four different types of
attachment to discuss relationships between caregiver and infant: secure, insecure avoidant, insecure
resistant, and insecure disorganized. Secure attachment occurs when the caregiver is seen as safe,
giving the infant the opportunity to explore, but always having somewhere to return. When an infant
doesn't interact with the caregiver in their presence, but cries when they leave it is considered an
insecure avoidant attachment. The next style, insecure resistant, is described as an infant who wants
to stay close to the caregiver, but does not respond well when given comfort. The last style of
attachment, insecure disorganized, occurs when the child shows fear and resistance around their
caregiver (Rogers, 2016). Being an infant during this time in my life, I had to rely on insight from
my mother to discover which attachment style I possessed. Based on her descriptions, I would
categorize myself with a secure attachment style. From a young age, I have been very outgoing and
independent, which may have come from this early attachment. In addition, although I always have
the people in my life I can go back to when I need them, I do not rely on them. This shows parallel

It was important to create a vision statement at the outset to assist with future planning and where

Personal and Occupational Development throughout the Lifespan The following essay will use a
lifespan perspective to discuss how major transitions can influence both occupational and personal
development. Using occupation as a coping strategy during stressful transitions will also be
explored. The narrative discussed was derived from an informal, semi–structured interview.
Occupational development will explore how the meanings associated with occupations can change
and how this can be reflective of their current life–stage. The essay will begin with an outline of the
precautions taken to maintain the interviewee's confidentiality. This will be followed by a brief
explanation of the lifespan and occupational models that will be used throughout the essay. A
summary of the interviewee's narrative will then be provided. This will be expanded upon by using
lifespan theories. Confidentiality Seidman (2013) identified a number of ways of maintaining a
participant's anonymity when conducting an interview. Consideration was give to these guidelines
throughout the essay. The pseudonym 'Chloe' was used to refer to the interviewee for the purposes

nature of the Chloe's routine, activities and occupations have also been change, (Seidman, 2013).
These precautions were made in order to disguise the participant's identity and to help maintain

What did you learn about your leadership? Personal Assessment of Strengths and Areas for
Development. I have more than one overdone strengths. One of them is over–optimism about
people, organization, and trust in the management team. Whether it's upper level, or middle
management, I always feel that they know the best, and they know what they are doing. I only see
that everything is done accurately as they are versus how they could or should be. Remaining loyal
to others and the organization does cause issues for me, because others don't normally see it that
way. Trying to make things easier for others, or trying to be less of a burden on others is perceived
as I have no backbone of myself. Defending the rights of others is seen as I'm just always siding

and project reassignment.
Change can often be viewed as positive, as the case in a successful completion of a life cycle
project. The project life cycle is finite and inevitable; there is excitement surrounding potential for
new project opportunities. Also technology and business process improvement can be embraced as
the new generation becomes more accepting and involved in technological advances. Alternatively,

Developing self–awareness as a counsellor is considered "central to many of the mainstream
theoretical approaches" (Mcleod, 2009, p624). I will argue that without the development of self–
awareness neither a trainee nor qualified counsellor can meet the core conditions set out in most
theoretical approaches to counselling, congruence, empathy and unconditional positive regard. I will

Sanders (2011) argues that "By talking about ourselves as honestly as we can in a safe environment
and listening to the feedback from others, we can check whether the view we have of ourselves is
the one received by others" (Sanders, 2011, p61). Feedback not only raises our awareness to what
we say but, and perhaps more importantly, how we say it – our non–verbal communication. The
influence of non–verbal communication on a clients view of their counsellor can be taught, but I
was amazed at just how unaware I was of my own body language. During my first few triads I could
not control my hands, eventually opting to sit on them which was perceived as uncomfortable and a
result of my nervousness. "Receiving feedback gives us a chance to change and modify in order to
communicate more effectively" (Tolan & Lendrum, 1995, p30) and creates awareness of the
importance of effective communication when building a genuine relationship with your client.
Receiving feedback can also raise our awareness of the value of receiving genuine feedback itself,
as well as a need to sensitively communicate feedback to others. This also creates a greater sense of
empathy toward others. Triads also enable the trainee to receive feedback from a variety of different

improve their overall job performance. For managers to provide employees feedback and support in
the form of coaching, developmental training, or managerial skills, these development are
particularly relevant when employees are establishing their careers. (Cummings, 2009) In the
workplace, employees want their managers to observe their work actions, and provide them
comments on their executions and technical knowledge, which may be lacking. When employees are
establishing careers, they are going to have concerns about how well they are performing tasks, job
