Long-Term Evolution (LTE), an emerging and promising fourth generation mobile technology, is expected
to offer ubiquitous broadband access to the mobile subscribers. In this paper, the performance of Frame
Level Scheduler (FLS), Exponential (EXP) rule, Logarithmic (LOG) rule and Maximum-Largest Weighted
Delay First (M-LWDF) packet scheduling algorithms has been studied in the downlink 3GPP LTE cellular
network. To this aim, a single cell with interference scenario has been considered. The performance
evaluation is made by varying the number of UEs ranging from 10 to 50 (Case 1) and user speed in the
range of [3, 120] km/h (Case 2). Results show that while the number of UEs and user speed increases, the
performance of the considered scheduling schemes degrades and in both case FLS outperforms other three
schemes in terms of several performance indexes such as average throughput, packet loss ratio (PLR),
packet delay and fairness index.

The type of HetNets that has been chosen for this study is Macro with Pico cells. Comparing the system performance with and without Pico cells has clearly illustrated using three well-known scheduling algorithms (Proportional Fair PF, Maximum Largest Weighted Delay First MLWDF and Exponential/Proportional Fair EXP/PF). The system is judged based on throughput, Packet Loss Ratio PLR, delay and fairness.. A simulation platform called LTE-Sim has been used to collect the data and produce the paper’s outcomes and graphs. The results prove that adding Pico cells enhances the overall system performance. From the simulation outcomes, the overall system performance is as follows: throughput is duplicated or tripled based on the number of users, the PLR is almost quartered, the delay is nearly reduced ten times (PF case) and changed to be a half (MLWDF/EXP cases), and the fairness stays closer to value of 1. It is considered an efficient and cost effective way to increase the throughput, coverage and reduce the latency.

in terms of service rate and packet delay and showed better performance regards the real time
applications.

time transmission it accept route request on priority basis and the drop ratio of packets decreased, then
throughput increases by receiving more packets at destination and delivery ratio also increased through

Single Carrier Frequency Division Multiple Access (SC-FDMA) is chosen because of the lower peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) value in uplink transmission. However, the contiguity constraint is one of the major constraint presents in uplink packet scheduling, where all RBs allocated to a single UE must be contiguous in the frequency-domain within each time slot to maintain its single carrier. This paper proposed an uplink-scheduling algorithm namely the Maximum Expansion with Contiguity Constraints (MECC) algorithm, which supports both the RT and NRT services. The MECC algorithm is deployed in two stages. In the first stage, the RBs are allocated fairly among the UEs. The second stage allocates the RBs with the highest metric value and expands the allocation on both sides of the matrix, M with respect to the contiguity constraint. The performance of the MECC algorithm was observed in terms of throughput, fairness, delay, and Packet Loss Ratio (PLR) for VoIP, video and best effort flows. The MECC scheduling algorithm is compared to other algorithms namely the Round Robin (RR), Channel-Dependent First Maximum Expansion (CD-FME), and Proportional Fairness First Maximum Expansion (PF-FME). From here, it can be concluded that the MECC algorithm shows the best results among other algorithms by delivering the highest throughput which is up to 81.29% and 90.04% than CD-FME and RR scheduler for RT and NRT traffic respectively, having low PLR and delay which is up to 93.92% and 56.22% of improvement than CD-FME for the RT traffic flow. The MECC also has a satisfactory level of fairness for the cell-edge users in a vehicular environment of LTE network.

Hierarchical Genetic Algorithms (HGA) as a tool for search and optimizing methodology have now reached a mature stage. The minimum resource facility to carry user traffic, termed a channel unit (CU), is composed of a one time-slot and one code in the TD-CDMA/TDD system. The control of the number of CUs depends on the traffic load solves varied and asymmetrical traffic problems in the 3G system. In a cellular network, the call arrival rate, call duration and the communication overhead between the base stations and the control center are vague and uncertain, regardless of whether the criteria of concern are nonlinear, constrained, discrete or NP hard. In this paper, the HGA is used to tackle the neural network (NN) topology as well as the fuzzy logic controller for the dynamic CU allocation scheme in wireless cellular networks. Therefore, we propose a new efficient HGA CUs Allocation (HGACA) in cellular networks. It aims to efficiently satisfy the diverse quality-of-service (QoS) requirements of multimedia traffic. The results show our algorithm has a lower blocking rate, lower dropping rate, less update overhead, and shorter channel-acquisition delay than previous methods

A downlink scheduler supporting real time services in LTE cellular networksUniversity of Piraeus
The wide spread of real-time services in wireless networks demands scheduling mechanisms supporting strict Quality of Service (QoS) requirements. Nevertheless, the specifications of the LTE standard for mobile connectivity defined by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) does not impose any specific scheduler for the proper allocation of resources to services. Therefore, several LTE schedulers have been proposed in the literature meeting the QoS requirements of modern services. In this paper a QoS aware scheduler for the LTE downlink is proposed namely the FLS-Advanced (FLSA) aiming at prioritizing real-time traffic. The proposed scheduler has been built on three distinct levels assigning the available radio resources to services according to their requirements. Based on simulation results, the FLSA outperforms in terms of packet loss ratio, attainable throughput and fairness the performance of existing schedulers including PF, MLWDF, EXP/PF, FLS, EXP RULE and LOG RULE.

ADAPTIVE HANDOVER HYSTERESIS AND CALL ADMISSION CONTROL FOR MOBILE RELAY NODESIJCNCJournal
The aim of equipping a wireless network with a mobile relay node is to support broadband wireless communications for vehicular users and their devices. The high mobility of vehicular users, possibly at a very high velocity in the area in which two cells overlap, could cause the network to suffer from a reduced handover success rate and, hence, increased radio link failure. The combined impact of these problems is service interruptions to vehicular users. Thus, the handover schemes are crucial in solving these problems. In this work, we first present the adaptive handover hysteresis scheme for the wireless network with mobile relay nodes in the high-speed train scenario. Specifically, our proposed adaptive hysteresis scheme is based on the velocity of the train. Second, the handover call dropping probability is reduced by introducing a modified call admission control scheme to support radio resource reservation for handover calls that prioritizes handover calls of mobile relay over the other calls. The proposed solution in which adaptive parameter is combined with call admission control is evaluated by system level simulation. Our simulation results illustrate an increased handover success rate and reduced radio link failures.
3GPP has introduced LTE Femtocells to manipulate the traffic for indoor users and to minimize
the charge on the Macro cells. A key mechanism in the LTE traffic handling is the packet
scheduler which is in charge of allocating resources to active flows in both the frequency and
time dimension. So several scheduling algorithms need to be analyzed for femtocells networks.
In this paper we introduce a performance analysis of three distinct scheduling algorithms of
mixed type of traffic flows in LTE femtocells networks. The particularly study is evaluated in
terms of throughput, packet loss ratio, fairness index and spectral efficiency.
HYBRID LS-LMMSE CHANNEL ESTIMATION Technique for LTE Downlink Systemsijngnjournal
In this paper, we propose to improve the performance of the channel estimation for LTE Downlink systems under the effect of the channel length. As LTE Downlink system is a MIMO-OFDMA based system, a cyclic prefix (CP) is inserted at the beginning of each transmitted OFDM symbol in order to mitigate both intercarrier interference (ICI) and inter-symbol interference (ISI). The inserted CP is usually equal to or longer than the channel length. However, the cyclic prefix can be shorter because of some unforeseen channel behaviour. Previous works have shown that in the case where the cyclic prefix is equal to or longer than the channel length, LMMSE performs better than LSE but at the cost of computational complexity .In the other case, LMMSE performs also better than LS only for low SNR values. However, LS shows better performance for LTE Downlink systems for high SNR values. Therefore, we propose a hybrid LS-LMMSE channel estimation technique robust to the channel length effect. MATLAB Monte –Carlo simulations areused to evaluate the performance of the proposed estimator in terms of Mean Square Error (MSE) and Bit Error Rate (BER) for 2x2 LTE Downlink systems.
Fuzzy Controller Based Stable Routes with Lifetime Prediction in MANETsCSCJournals
In ad hoc networks, the nodes are dynamically and arbitrary located in a manner that the interconnections between nodes are changing frequently. Thus, designing an effective routing protocol is a critical issue. In this paper, we propose a fuzzy based routing method that selects the most stable route (FSRS) considering the number of intermediate nodes, packet queue occupancy, and internodes distances. Also it takes the produced cost of the selected route as an input to another fuzzy controller predicts its lifetime (FRLP), the evaluation of the proposed method is performed using OMNet++4.0 simulator in terms of packet delivery ratio, average end-to-end delay and normalized routing load.

Recently, numerous approaches have been proposed for designing medium access control (MAC)
in underwater acoustic networks (UANs). Some of those works tried to adapt MAC protocols proposed for
terrestrial networks. However, unique environmental characteristics of UANs make the MAC protocols hard to be
used in the UANs and degrade network performance. In order to improve network performance, COD-TS MAC
protocol was proposed. COD-TS focuses on both single hop and multi-hop mode and utilizes CDMA for
exchanging schedule information between cluster heads. COD-TS has shortcomings such as collisions, additional
energy consumption by exchanging schedule information and near-far effect of CDMA. To overcome above
shortcomings, we propose a clustering-based time slot assignment protocol. In the proposed protocol, nodes are
clustered, and each cluster head performs two-hop neighbor cluster discovery operation. And then, a cluster head
obtains its own relative position information. Finally, the cluster head assigns its own time slot for data
transmission based on the information. Simulation results show that the proposed protocol has always better
performance compared to the COD-TS.

Network coding is a slightly new forwarding technique which receives various applications in traditional
computer networks, wireless sensor networks and peer-to-peer systems. However, network coding is
inherently vulnerable to pollution attacks by malicious nodes in the network. If any fake node in the
network spreads polluted packets, the pollution of packets will spread quickly since the output of (even an)
honest node is corrupted if at least one of the incoming packets is corrupted. There have been adapted a
few ordinary signature schemes to network coding that allows nodes to check the validity of a packet
without decoding. In this paper, we propose a scheme uses ElGamal signature in network coding. Our
scheme makes use of the linearity property of the packets in a coded system, and allows nodes to check the
integrity of the packets received easily.

queuing system to allow many clients to connect simultaneously to the server. When clients connect, they
can register or choose the option to complete a quiz that the lecturer selected. Results are automatically
sent when quiz is done from the client application. Data analysis can then be done to review the progress of
students.

After Shannon’s 1948 channel coding theorem, we have witnessed many channel coding techniques developed to achieve the Shannon limit. A wide range of channel codes is available with different complexity levels and error correction performance. Many powerful coding schemes have been deployed in the power-limited Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) channel. However, it seems like we have arrived at an end of advancement path, for most of the existing channel codes. This article introduces a new coding technique that can either be used as the last coding stage of concatenated coding scheme or in parallel configuration with other powerful channel codes to achieve reliable error performance with moderately complex decoding. We will go through an example to understand the overall approach of the proposed coding technique, and finally we will look at some simulation results over an AWGN channel to demonstrate its potential.

In this paper, we investigate the problem of designing the mobile elements tours such that the length of each tour is below a per-determined length and the depth of the multi-hop routing trees bounded by k. The path of the mobile element is designed to visit subset of the nodes (cache points). These cache points store other nodes data. To address this problem, we propose two heuristic-based solutions. Our solutions take into consideration the distribution of the nodes during the establishment of the tour. The results of our experiments indicate that our schemes significantly outperforms the best comparable scheme in the literature.

Hierarchical Genetic Algorithms (HGA) as a tool for search and optimizing methodology have now reached a mature stage. The minimum resource facility to carry user traffic, termed a channel unit (CU), is composed of a one time-slot and one code in the TD-CDMA/TDD system. The control of the number of CUs depends on the traffic load solves varied and asymmetrical traffic problems in the 3G system. In a cellular network, the call arrival rate, call duration and the communication overhead between the base stations and the control center are vague and uncertain, regardless of whether the criteria of concern are nonlinear, constrained, discrete or NP hard. In this paper, the HGA is used to tackle the neural network (NN) topology as well as the fuzzy logic controller for the dynamic CU allocation scheme in wireless cellular networks. Therefore, we propose a new efficient HGA CUs Allocation (HGACA) in cellular networks. It aims to efficiently satisfy the diverse quality-of-service (QoS) requirements of multimedia traffic. The results show our algorithm has a lower blocking rate, lower dropping rate, less update overhead, and shorter channel-acquisition delay than previous methods

A downlink scheduler supporting real time services in LTE cellular networksUniversity of Piraeus
The wide spread of real-time services in wireless networks demands scheduling mechanisms supporting strict Quality of Service (QoS) requirements. Nevertheless, the specifications of the LTE standard for mobile connectivity defined by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) does not impose any specific scheduler for the proper allocation of resources to services. Therefore, several LTE schedulers have been proposed in the literature meeting the QoS requirements of modern services. In this paper a QoS aware scheduler for the LTE downlink is proposed namely the FLS-Advanced (FLSA) aiming at prioritizing real-time traffic. The proposed scheduler has been built on three distinct levels assigning the available radio resources to services according to their requirements. Based on simulation results, the FLSA outperforms in terms of packet loss ratio, attainable throughput and fairness the performance of existing schedulers including PF, MLWDF, EXP/PF, FLS, EXP RULE and LOG RULE.

ADAPTIVE HANDOVER HYSTERESIS AND CALL ADMISSION CONTROL FOR MOBILE RELAY NODESIJCNCJournal
The aim of equipping a wireless network with a mobile relay node is to support broadband wireless communications for vehicular users and their devices. The high mobility of vehicular users, possibly at a very high velocity in the area in which two cells overlap, could cause the network to suffer from a reduced handover success rate and, hence, increased radio link failure. The combined impact of these problems is service interruptions to vehicular users. Thus, the handover schemes are crucial in solving these problems. In this work, we first present the adaptive handover hysteresis scheme for the wireless network with mobile relay nodes in the high-speed train scenario. Specifically, our proposed adaptive hysteresis scheme is based on the velocity of the train. Second, the handover call dropping probability is reduced by introducing a modified call admission control scheme to support radio resource reservation for handover calls that prioritizes handover calls of mobile relay over the other calls. The proposed solution in which adaptive parameter is combined with call admission control is evaluated by system level simulation. Our simulation results illustrate an increased handover success rate and reduced radio link failures.
3GPP has introduced LTE Femtocells to manipulate the traffic for indoor users and to minimize
the charge on the Macro cells. A key mechanism in the LTE traffic handling is the packet
scheduler which is in charge of allocating resources to active flows in both the frequency and
time dimension. So several scheduling algorithms need to be analyzed for femtocells networks.
In this paper we introduce a performance analysis of three distinct scheduling algorithms of
mixed type of traffic flows in LTE femtocells networks. The particularly study is evaluated in
terms of throughput, packet loss ratio, fairness index and spectral efficiency.
HYBRID LS-LMMSE CHANNEL ESTIMATION Technique for LTE Downlink Systemsijngnjournal
In this paper, we propose to improve the performance of the channel estimation for LTE Downlink systems under the effect of the channel length. As LTE Downlink system is a MIMO-OFDMA based system, a cyclic prefix (CP) is inserted at the beginning of each transmitted OFDM symbol in order to mitigate both intercarrier interference (ICI) and inter-symbol interference (ISI). The inserted CP is usually equal to or longer than the channel length. However, the cyclic prefix can be shorter because of some unforeseen channel behaviour. Previous works have shown that in the case where the cyclic prefix is equal to or longer than the channel length, LMMSE performs better than LSE but at the cost of computational complexity .In the other case, LMMSE performs also better than LS only for low SNR values. However, LS shows better performance for LTE Downlink systems for high SNR values. Therefore, we propose a hybrid LS-LMMSE channel estimation technique robust to the channel length effect. MATLAB Monte –Carlo simulations areused to evaluate the performance of the proposed estimator in terms of Mean Square Error (MSE) and Bit Error Rate (BER) for 2x2 LTE Downlink systems.
Fuzzy Controller Based Stable Routes with Lifetime Prediction in MANETsCSCJournals
In ad hoc networks, the nodes are dynamically and arbitrary located in a manner that the interconnections between nodes are changing frequently. Thus, designing an effective routing protocol is a critical issue. In this paper, we propose a fuzzy based routing method that selects the most stable route (FSRS) considering the number of intermediate nodes, packet queue occupancy, and internodes distances. Also it takes the produced cost of the selected route as an input to another fuzzy controller predicts its lifetime (FRLP), the evaluation of the proposed method is performed using OMNet++4.0 simulator in terms of packet delivery ratio, average end-to-end delay and normalized routing load.

Recently, numerous approaches have been proposed for designing medium access control (MAC)
in underwater acoustic networks (UANs). Some of those works tried to adapt MAC protocols proposed for
terrestrial networks. However, unique environmental characteristics of UANs make the MAC protocols hard to be
used in the UANs and degrade network performance. In order to improve network performance, COD-TS MAC
protocol was proposed. COD-TS focuses on both single hop and multi-hop mode and utilizes CDMA for
exchanging schedule information between cluster heads. COD-TS has shortcomings such as collisions, additional
energy consumption by exchanging schedule information and near-far effect of CDMA. To overcome above
shortcomings, we propose a clustering-based time slot assignment protocol. In the proposed protocol, nodes are
clustered, and each cluster head performs two-hop neighbor cluster discovery operation. And then, a cluster head
obtains its own relative position information. Finally, the cluster head assigns its own time slot for data
transmission based on the information. Simulation results show that the proposed protocol has always better
performance compared to the COD-TS.

Network coding is a slightly new forwarding technique which receives various applications in traditional
computer networks, wireless sensor networks and peer-to-peer systems. However, network coding is
inherently vulnerable to pollution attacks by malicious nodes in the network. If any fake node in the
network spreads polluted packets, the pollution of packets will spread quickly since the output of (even an)
honest node is corrupted if at least one of the incoming packets is corrupted. There have been adapted a
few ordinary signature schemes to network coding that allows nodes to check the validity of a packet
without decoding. In this paper, we propose a scheme uses ElGamal signature in network coding. Our
scheme makes use of the linearity property of the packets in a coded system, and allows nodes to check the
integrity of the packets received easily.

After Shannon’s 1948 channel coding theorem, we have witnessed many channel coding techniques developed to achieve the Shannon limit. A wide range of channel codes is available with different complexity levels and error correction performance. Many powerful coding schemes have been deployed in the power-limited Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) channel. However, it seems like we have arrived at an end of advancement path, for most of the existing channel codes. This article introduces a new coding technique that can either be used as the last coding stage of concatenated coding scheme or in parallel configuration with other powerful channel codes to achieve reliable error performance with moderately complex decoding. We will go through an example to understand the overall approach of the proposed coding technique, and finally we will look at some simulation results over an AWGN channel to demonstrate its potential.

In this paper, we investigate the problem of designing the mobile elements tours such that the length of each tour is below a per-determined length and the depth of the multi-hop routing trees bounded by k. The path of the mobile element is designed to visit subset of the nodes (cache points). These cache points store other nodes data. To address this problem, we propose two heuristic-based solutions. Our solutions take into consideration the distribution of the nodes during the establishment of the tour. The results of our experiments indicate that our schemes significantly outperforms the best comparable scheme in the literature.
Opportunistic and playback sensitive scheduling for video streamingijwmn
Given the strict Quality of Service (QoS) requirements of video streaming, this paper proposes a novel
solution for simultaneous streaming of multiple video sessions over a mobile cellular system. The proposed
solution combines a buffer management strategy with a packet scheduling algorithm. The buffer
management strategy selectively discards packets of a user from base station buffer whereas the packet
scheduling algorithm schedules packets of a user according to its instantaneous channel quality, average
throughput and playback buffer information. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed solution is
effective in providing a continuous video playback with good perceptual quality for more users. If at least a
good perceptual quality is to be satisfied for all users (QoS constraint of video streaming), then the
proposed solution improves the system capacity by 40% over a conventional packet scheduling algorithm.
WIRELESS MESH NETWORKS CAPACITY IMPROVEMENT USING CBF ijwmn
Wireless mesh network has recently received a great deal of attention as a promising technology to provideubiquitous high bandwidth access for a large number of users. Such network may face a significant broadcast traffic that may consequently degrade the network reliability.
In this paper, we have focused interest to wireless mesh network based IEEE 802.11s and we have designed
a self-pruning method to control and reduce the broadcast traffic forwarding. Our scheme, namely Control of Broadcast Forwarding (CBF), defines two behaviours to manage the broadcasting operation. Routing
packets are managed differently from data broadcast messages to avoid afflicting the routing process.
The simulations results show that CBF ameliorates the network capacity by reducing considerably the
number of redundant packets, improving the end to end delay and providing high reachability and packet
delivery ration.

The four basic Radio Resource Management (RRM) measurements in Long Term Evolution (LTE) system
are Channel Quality Indicator (CQI), Reference Signal Received Power (RSRP), Reference Signal
Received Quality (RSRQ), and Carrier Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI). A measurement of channel quality represented by Signal to Interference plus Noise Ratio (SINR) is used for link adaptation along with packet scheduling, whereas RSRP and RSRQ are needed for making handover decision during intra-eUTRAN (evolved Universal Terrestrial Random Access Network) handover in LTE. In this paper,
some practical measurement results recorded from a live LTE network of Australia using a commercial measurement tool namely NEMO Handy are analysed to verify the possible relationships among SINR, RSRP, RSSI and RSRQ as well as to evaluate the effects of SNR on throughput. In addition, the intraeUTRAN handover events occurred during the test period within the test area are studied. The analysis
yields some useful information such as: if the SINR is good for a measurement slot, higher throughput is
achieved; RSRP and SNR are proportional to each other on average; and lesser is the difference between
RSSI and RSRP, better is the RSRQ – each of which is consistent with theory. All the measurement results
are evaluated using computer programs built on MATLAB platform.

the hospitals. In this work we present a ZigBee based wireless healthcare monitoring system that can
provide real time online information about the health condition of a patient. The proposed system is able to
send alarming messages to the healthcare professional about the patient’s critical condition. In addition
the proposed system can send reports to a patient monitoring system, which can be used by the healthcare
professionals to make necessary medical advices from anywhere of the World at any time.

Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing with Offset Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (OFDM/OQAM) is a multicarrier modulation scheme that can be considered as an alternative to the conventional Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) with Cyclic Prefix (CP) for transmission over multipath fading channels. In this paper, we investigate the combination of the OFDM/OQAM with Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) system with Time Reversal (TR) technique.
TR can be viewed as a precoding scheme which can be combined with OFDM/OQAM and easily carried out in a MIMO context using spatial data multiplexing.
We present the simulation results of the performance of OFDM/OQAM system in SISO case compared with the conventional CP-OFDM system and the performance of the combination MIMO-OFDM/OQAM with TR compared to MIMO-CP-OFDM. The performance is derived by computing the Bit Error Rate (BER) as a function of the transmit signal-to-noise ratio (SNR).
A MANET is an autonomous collection of mobile users that communicate over relatively bandwidth constrained wireless links. When designing mobile ad hoc networks, several interesting and difficult problems arise because of the shared nature of the wireless medium, limited transmission power (range) of wireless devices, node mobility, and battery limitations. This paper aims at providing a new schema to improve Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) Protocol. The aim
behind the proposed enhancement is to find the best route in acceptable time limit without having broadcast storm. Moreover, O-DSR enables network not only to overcome congestion but also maximize the lifetime of mobile nodes. Some simulations results show that the Route Request (RREQ) and the Control Packet Overhead decrease by 15% when O-DSR is used, consequently. Also the global energy consumption in O-DSR is lower until to 60 % , which leads to a long lifetime of the network.

Coordinated multi-point transmission and reception (CoMP) is introduced in LTE-A to mitigate co-channel
interference and improve the cell-edge user experience. In this paper we propose a joint transmission
scheme for LTE-CoMP and we enhance the performance of CoMP with two techniques: 1- dynamic MIMO
cell selection and 2- closed loop MIMO with global precoding matrix selection. A cell-edge user selects the
base stations that jointly transmit the desired signal from the available ones (we assumed 3). The user also
selects the closed loop precoding matrices for MIMO in a joint fashion to fit the independent MIMO
channels from two base stations (eNBs). In addition, edge users are likely to be subject to severe Cochannel
interference from eNBs outside the joint transmission set.To address co-channel interference from
the base station(s) that are not included in CoMP joint transmission set, the user equipment employs
Minimum Mean Squared Error receiver with Interference Rejection Combining (MMSE-IRC). We illustrate
the effect of fading correlation between elements of the transmit and receive antennas. Also, the effect of
the desired to interference eNB power ratio in case of medium correlation for 3 and 4 layers using MMSEIRC
receiver is studied. Also we compare the BER performance for 3 and 4 layers in case of different values of the desired to interference eNB power ratio. Simulation results show that the performance of CoMP with cell selection considerably improves the performance. Also, global selection of the precoding matrices outperforms local selection. In addition, using MMSE-IRC gives much better performance than the conventional minimum mean square error (MMSE) in the presence of co-channel interference.

conventional Fourier transform (FFT) in either symbol timing offset (STO) and carrier frequency offset
(CFO) estimation. Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing is widely used in many systems due to
advantages of theses technique compared with mono-carrier systems. In spite of his advantages, OFDM
presents drawbacks such as sensitivity to timing and frequency offsets. Many techniques are used in the
literature to estimate these two parameters in order to compensate them (synchronization task). These
techniques used conventional Fourier transform. In this paper, we are interested in estimating STO and
CFO using fractional Fourier transform. Monte Carlo simulation demonstrates the performance of the use
of FRFT instead of FFT.

This paper focuses on an essential task of the enhanced NodeB eNodeB element in LTE architecture, the
Radio Resource Manager RRM, which aims to accept or reject requests for connection to the network
based on some constraints and ensuring optimal distribution of radio resources between Users Equipments
UEs. Its main functionalities include Admission Control AC and Packet Scheduling PS.
This paper will center mainly on the PS part of the RRM task, which performs the radio resource
allocation in both uplink and downlink directions. Several approaches and algorithms have been proposed
in the literature to address this need (allocate resources efficiently), the diversity and multitude of
algorithms is related to the factors considered for the optimal management of radio resource, specifically,
the traffic type and the QoS (Quality of Service) requested by the UE.
In this article, an art’s state of the radio resource allocation strategies and a detailed study of several
scheduling algorithms proposed for LTE (uplink and downlink) are made. Therefore, we offer our
evaluation and criticism.

Nowadays, with the advent of smartphones, most of people started to make voice and video conference calls continuously even in a high mobility scenario, the bandwidth requirements have increased considerably, which can cause network congestion phenomena. To avoid network congestion problems and to support high mobility scenario, 3GPP has developed a new cellular standard based packet switching, termed LTE (Long Term Evolution). The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the performance of the new proposed algorithm, named Exponential Modified Largest Weighted Delay First „EXP-MLWDF‟, for high mobility scenario and with the presence of a large number of active users, in comparison with the wellknown algorithms such as a proportional fair algorithm (PF), Exponential Proportional Fairness (EXP/PF), Logarithm Rule (LOG-Rule), Exponential Rule (EXP-Rule) and Modified Largest Weighted Delay First (MLWDF). The performance evaluation is conducted in terms of system throughput, delay and PLR. Finally, it will be concluded that the proposed scheduler satisfies the quality of service (QoS) requirements of the real-time traffic in terms of packet loss ratio (PLR), average throughput and packet delay. Because of the traffic evolution, some key issues related to scheduling strategies that will be considered in the future requirements are discussed in this article.
Enhanced exponential rule scheduling algorithm for real-time traffic in LTE n...IJECEIAES
Nowadays, mobile communication is growing rapidly and become an everyday commodity. The vast deployment of real-time services in Long Term Evolution (LTE) network demands for the scheduling techniques that support the Quality of Service (QoS) requirements. LTE is designed and implemented to fulfill the users’ QoS. However, 3GPP does not define the specific scheduling technique for resource distribution which leads to vast research and development of the scheduling techniques. In this context, a review of the recent scheduling algorithm is reported in the literature. These schedulers in the literature cause high Packet Loss Rate (PLR), low fairness, and high delay. To cope with these disadvantages, we propose an enhanced EXPRULE (eEXPRULE) scheduler to improve the radio resource utilization in the LTE network. Extensive simulation works are carried out and the proposed scheduler provides a significant performance improvement for video application without sacrificing the VoIP performance. The eEXPRULE scheduler increases video throughput, spectrum efficiency, and fairness by 50%, 13%, and 11%, respectively, and reduces the video PLR by 11%.

In this paper LTE uplink waveforms displayed with various duplexing mode, Allocated Resources Blocks ARB, Modulation types and total information per frame, QPSK and 16 QAM used as modulation techniques and tested under AWGN and Rayleigh channels, similarity and interference of the generated waveforms tested using auto-correlation and cross-correlation respectively.

The proportional fair (PF) scheduling algorithm com
promises between cell throughput and fairness. Many
research findings have been published by various re
searchers about PF algorithm based on mathematical
model and simulations. In this paper we have taken
the practical route to analyse the algorithm based
on
three types of subscription. In this benchmarking s
tudy, the user subscriptions are differentiated as
Gold,
Silver and Bronze schemes and they are provisioned
with certain throughputs. Apart from subscriptions
plans, the channel condition also plays a major rol
e in determining the throughput. So in order to ens
ure
fairness among different subscriptions even in the
bad channel conditions and to deliver the provision
ed
throughputs certain priorities are attached with th
e subscriptions. As per the subscription plans Gold
subscribers are assigned with 50% of the speed offe
red by the network as maximum based on CAT3 speed
(100 Mbps in DL and 50 Mbps in UL), Silver is assig
ned with 25% of the max speed and Bronze is
assigned with 12% of the max speed. The priorities
assigned to subscribers determines the fairness in
the
unfavourable channel conditions - Bronze (high), Si
lver and Gold (medium). In this paper, an
benchmarking tests have been performed with all of
three types of subscribers for nearly two hours in
the
live single cell network without any heterogeneous
cells influencing it. Furthermore, the results are
compared with the simulation results.

Multi-hop routing protocol in cognitive radio mobile ad hoc networks (CRMANETs) is a critical issue. Furthermore, the routing metric used in multi-hop CRMANETs should reflect the bands availability, the links quality, the PU activities and quality of service (QoS) requirements of SUs. For the best of our knowledge, many of researchers investigated the performance of the different routing protocols in a homogeneous environment only. In this paper, we propose a heterogeneous cognitive radio routing protocol (HCR) operates in heterogeneous environment (i.e. the route from source to destination utilize the licensed and unlicensed spectrum bands). The proposed routing protocol is carefully developed to make a tradeoff between the channel diversity of the routing path along with the CRMANETs throughput. Using simulations, we discuss the performance of the proposed HCR routing protocol and compare it with the AODV routing protocol using a discrete-event simulation which we developed using JAVA platform.
The 3GPP Long Term Evolution Advanced (LTE-A) standard specifies a set of pioneer features such as relay nodes and carrier aggregation. At the same time, the Software Defined Networks (SDN) have become an emerging technology which provides centralized control and programmability to modern networks. In the current communication environment, cloud computing could combine the advantages of both technologies in order to create a novel cloud assisted Software Defined LTEA architecture with relay nodes. Moreover, due to the increased requirements of modern services, the optimal resource allocation is a necessity. In such a context, this paper describes a QoS aware cross carrier scheduler for downlink flows, aiming at the optimization of system resources allocation. The proposed scheduler is evaluated against the PF, MLWDF, EXP/PF, EXP RULE, LOG RULE, FLS and FLSA schedulers in a cloud assisted Software Defined LTE-A topology with relay nodes. Simulation results show that the proposed scheduler improves the real time services performance while at the same time maintains an acceptable performance for best effort flows.

To address these challenges, this paper presents an Efficient Topology Maintenance Algorithm (ETM-OLSR) for Enhanced Link-State Routing Protocols. By reducing the number of MPR nodes, TC message generation and forwarding frequency are minimized. Furthermore, the algorithm selects a smaller subset of TC messages based on the changes in the MPR selection set from the previous cycle, adapting to stable and fluctuating network conditions. Additionally, the sending cycle of TC messages is dynamically adjusted in response to network topology changes. Simulation results demonstrate that the ETM-OLSR algorithm effectively reduces network control overhead, minimizes end-to-end delay, and improves network throughput compared to traditional OLSR and HTR-OLSR algorithms.

Long-Term Advancement Progressed (LTE-ADV) is the advancement of the long-term evolution,
which created via 3GPP. LTE-ADV aims to offer a transmission bandwidth of (100) MHz by using Carrier
Aggregation (CA) to aggregate LTE-ADV carriers. To increase the data capacity of the system and
resource allocation converts a very good tool. LTE-Advanced multiple Component Carriers (CCs) becomes
a difficult optimization problem. In the paper proposes a new scheduling algorithm and compares with a
different scheduling traditional algorithms that are proportional fair and round robin in the CA, in order to
find the best scheduler that provides high-quality throughput and improves fairness. It also evaluates
mapping model types are Mutual Information Effective SINR Mapping (MIESM) and Exponential Effective
SINR Mapping (EESM). The results show that the throughput in the proposed algorithm with MIESM
outperforms from others mapping and scheduling.

The aim of this paper is to evaluate the Quality of Service (QoS) performance of the Modified Largest Weighted Delay First (MLWDF), the Exponential Rule (Exp-Rule), and the Logarithmic Rule (Log-Rule) scheduling algorithms while offloading 50% of the macro-cell's traffic to five femto-cells, 100% of the macro-cell's traffic to five femto-cells, 100% of the macro-cell's traffic to ten femto-cells, and to compare it with the case in-which traffic offloading is not
applied. The QoS performance evaluation is based on the system's average throughput, Packet Loss Rate (PLR), average packet delay, and fairness among users. The LTE-Sim-5 with modifications is used in the simulation process. Simulation results show that offloading 100% of the Macro-cell's traffic to five femtocells had the highest maximum throughput, and the best PLR values especially when using the Log-Rule, in-which using it maintained the PLR values around 0.15 despite increasing the number of users. The least average packet delay was achieved when offloading 100% of the Macro-cell's traffic to ten femto-cells, the delay dropped to below 5 ms. The fairness indicators for the three scheduling algorithms while traffic
offloading was applied fluctuated in a linear way between a range of values of 0.7 and 0.9.

In this paper we have studied downlink packet scheduling algorithms proposed for LTE cellular networks.
The study emphasize on three most promising scheduling algorithms such as: FLS, EXP rule and LOG rule.
The performance of these three algorithms is conducted over video traffic in a vehicular environment using
LTE-Sim simulator. The simulation was setup with varying number of users from 10 - 60 in fixed bounded
regions of 1 km radius. The main goal this study is to provide results that will help in the design process of
packet scheduler for LTE cellular networks, aiming to get better overall performance users. Simulation
results show that, the FLS scheme outperforms in terms of average system throughput, average packet
delay, PLR; and with a satisfactory level of fairness index.

This paper addresses the vulnerability of deep learning models, particularly convolutional neural networks
(CNN)s, to adversarial attacks and presents a proactive training technique designed to counter them. We
introduce a novel volumization algorithm, which transforms 2D images into 3D volumetric representations.

ABSTRACT
Long-Term Evolution (LTE), an emerging and promising fourth generation mobile technology, is expected
to offer ubiquitous broadband access to the mobile subscribers. In this paper, the performance of Frame
Level Scheduler (FLS), Exponential (EXP) rule, Logarithmic (LOG) rule and Maximum-Largest Weighted
Delay First (M-LWDF) packet scheduling algorithms has been studied in the downlink 3GPP LTE cellular
network. To this aim, a single cell with interference scenario has been considered. The performance
evaluation is made by varying the number of UEs ranging from 10 to 50 (Case 1) and user speed in the
range of [3, 120] km/h (Case 2). Results show that while the number of UEs and user speed increases, the
performance of the considered scheduling schemes degrades and in both case FLS outperforms other three
schemes in terms of several performance indexes such as average throughput, packet loss ratio (PLR),
packet delay and fairness index.

1. INTRODUCTION
The continuously increasing demand of real-time (RT) multimedia services along with high speed
internet access and the need of having ubiquitous access to them even in high mobility scenarios
are acting as a driver toward the evolution of wireless cellular networks. To keep pace with this
rising demand, the Third-Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) introduced LTE which is also
marketed as 4G mobile network. LTE network targets to provide high peak data rates (100 Mbps
in downlink and 50 Mbps in uplink within 20 MHz bandwidth), spectrum flexibility (1.25 to 20
MHz), improved system capacity and coverage, low user-plane latency (less than 5 ms), high
spectral efficiency, support of wide user mobility, reduced operating cost, enhanced support for
end-to-end Quality of Service (QoS) and seamless interoperability with existing systems [1, 2].
In this context, effective utilization of radio resources becomes crucial. LTE radio access network
(also known as E-UTRAN, Evolved-UMTS Terrestrial Radio Access Network) uses OFDMA
(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access) radio access technology in downlink in which
the available bandwidth is divided into parallel narrow-band orthogonal subcarriers with sub-carrier
spacing of 15 kHz irrespective of total bandwidth and each UE is allocated with a set of
subcarriers depending on user’s requirements, existing system load, and the configuration of
system [3]. E-UTRAN consists of eNBs only (the LTE terminology for base station) where all
RRM (Radio Resource Management) functions such as physical layer functions, scheduling,
admission control etc. are performed. Packet scheduling is the process by which available radio
resources are allocated among active users in order to (re)transmit their packets so as the QoS

requirements of the users are satisfied [4]. The main objectives of packet scheduling are to
maximize the cell capacity, to satisfy the minimum QoS needs for the connections, and to
maintain adequate resources for best-effort users with no strict QoS requirements [5]. LTE packet
scheduling mechanism is not specified by 3GPP, rather it is open for the vendors to implement
their own algorithm. Different packet scheduling schemes has been proposed for LTE system. In
this paper, the performance of FLS, LOG rule, EXP rule, and M-LWDF packet scheduling
strategies has been studied by varying the number of users and users’ speed.
The rest of this paper is organized as follows. A generalized packet scheduling model in the
downlink LTE system is illustrated in section 2. Section 3 summarizes the dynamic packet
scheduling schemes which were used in simulations followed by descriptions of the simulation
scenarios and simulation results in section 4. Finally, section 5 concludes the paper.

2. DOWNLINK PACKET SCHEDULING MODEL
In downlink LTE system, the smallest unit of radio resource that can be allocated to a user for
data transmission is known as Physical Resource Block (PRB) which is defined both in time and
frequency domain [5]. In the frequency domain, the total available bandwidth is split into 180
kHz sub-channels, each sub-channel corresponds to 12 consecutive and equally spaced
subcarriers with sub-carrier spacing of 15kHz (i.e. each sub-channel is of 12×15 =180kHz). In
the time domain, the time is divided into frames and each LTE frame contains 10 consecutive
TTIs (Transmission Time Interval). Each TTI is of 1ms duration and consists of two time slots,
each of 0.5ms duration. Each time slot corresponds to 7 OFDM symbols (with short cyclic
prefix). Resource allocation is performed on TTI basis. A time/frequency radio resource that
spans over one time slot of 0.5ms in the time domain and one sub-channel (180 KHz) of 12
subcarriers in the frequency domain is known as Resource Block (RB). On every TTI, the RB
pairs (in time domain) are allocated to a UE for data transmission.
The downlink packet scheduler aims to dynamically determine to which UE(s) to transmit packets
and for each of the selected UE(s), on which Resource Block(s) (RB) the UE’s Downlink Shared
Channel (DL-SCH) will be transmitted [6]. A simplified packet scheduler model in LTE
downlink system is shown in Fig. 1. In every TTI, each UE sends its CQI (Channel Quality
Indicator) report computed from the downlink instantaneous channel condition to the serving
eNB. At eNB, a buffer is assigned for each UE. Packets arriving at the buffer are time stamped
and queued for transmission as FIFO (First In First Out) basis. On every TTI, scheduling decision
takes place based on packet scheduling algorithms and one or more PRBs can be scheduled for
each UE. There are specific scheduling criteria (e.g. channel condition, traffic type, head of line
(HOL) packet delay, queue status etc.) for different scheduling strategies and depending on the
scheduling criteria, users are prioritized. On each PRB, eNB choose a user with highest metric to
transmit its packets. Once a user is selected, the number of bits transmitted per PRB depends on
assigned Modulation and Coding Scheme (MCS) [7, 8].

3. PACKET SCHEDULING STRATEGIES
LTE packet scheduling algorithm aims to maximize system performance. Different scheduling
schemes have been proposed to support real-time (RT) and non real-time (NRT) applications. In
this section, the algorithms that are considered in this paper will be described.
3.1. Maximum-Largest Weighted Delay First (M-LWDF)
M-LWDF [9] algorithm was proposed to support multiple real-time data users with different QoS
requirements in CDMA-HDR system. A user is scheduled based on the following priority metric,

user i.
Since, this scheme considers HOL packet delay together with PF properties, good throughput and
fairness performance with a relatively low packet loss ratio (PLR) can be achieved using this
algorithm.
3.2. Frame Level Scheduler (FLS)
This QoS (Quality of Service) aware packet scheduling algorithm was proposed in [10] for RT
downlink communications. FLS is a two-level scheduling strategy where the two distinct levels
(upper level and lower level) interact with each other to dynamically allocate RBs to the users. At
upper level, a resource allocation scheme (namely FLS), which utilizes a D-T (Discrete-Time)
linear control loop, is implemented. FLS specifies the amount of data packets that a RT source
should transmit frame by frame to satisfy its delay constraint. At lower level, in every TTI, RBs
are allocated to the UEs using Proportional Fair (proposed in [11]) scheme with taking into

consideration the bandwidth requirements of FLS. Particularly, the scheduler at the lower layer
defines the number of TTIs/RBs through which each RT source will send its data packets.

3.3. Exponential (EXP) Rule
The Exponential rule [12], a channel aware/QoS aware scheduling strategy, was proposed to offer
Quality of Service (QoS) guarantees to the users over a shared wireless link. It explicitly
considers the channel conditions and the state of the queues while making scheduling decisions.
The following two rules are called EXP rule.
The Exponential (Queue length) rule (EXP-Q) selects a single queue for service in time slot t

3.4. LOG Rule
This channel aware/QoS aware strategy was designed to give a balanced QoS metrics in terms of
robustness and mean delay [13]. Similar to the EXP rule, the scheduler allocates service to the
user in a manner that maximizes current system throughput, with considering that traffic arrival
and channel statistics are known. When users’ queues are in state q and the channel spectral

4. PERFORMANCE EVALUATION
The performance evaluation of FLS, EXP rule, LOG rule and M-LWDF scheduling schemes with
increasing number of UEs (Case 1) and varying UE’s speed (Case 2) will be reported in this

section. To this aim, an open source simulator namely LTE-Sim [14] has been adopted. LTE-Sim
simulator exploits Jain’s fairness method [15] to calculate fairness index among UEs. The
propagation loss model includes the following:

4.1. Case 1: Effects of number of users
The performance of FLS, EXP rule, LOG rule, and M-LWDF downlink packet scheduling
schemes with increasing the number of UEs is analyzed herein. For multimedia flows, the
considered scheduling schemes have been compared based on several performance metrics named
average throughput, PLR, delay, and the fairness index. For best effort (BE) flows, since there is
no strict QoS requirements, a comparison among these scheduling strategies is reported on the
basis of average throughput only.
4.1.1. Simulation scenario
A single urban macro cell with interference simulation scenario with each UE having single flow
(video or VoIP or BE) and 40% UEs receiving video flows, 40% users receiving VoIP flows and
the rest 20% receiving BE flows has been taken into consideration to study the effects of number
of users on the performance of the scheduling strategies described above. A number of UEs
ranging from 10 to 50 are uniformly distributed and moving with a speed of 120 km/h in random
direction within a cell. Table 1 shows the simulation parameters.

4.1.2. Results and Discussion
The average throughput graphs of video, VoIP and best effort flows in Fig. 2 demonstrate that the
average throughput degrades while the number of users increases and FLS algorithms shows best
average throughput performance for multimedia flows . As seen in Fig. 2(a), the average
throughput of video flow falls upon increasing number of users for all the considered scheduling
algorithms. For FLS algorithm, while the number of users increases from 10 to 20, the average
throughput sharply falls followed by a steady decline in average throughput when the cell is
charged with more than 20 users. M-LWDF and LOG rule provides almost identical throughput
performance and EXP rule shows higher average throughput than these two schemes. The average
throughput per VoIP flow (shown in Fig. 2(b)) maintains almost the constant level at 3000 bps in

the user range of 10 to 40 for all four schemes. When the user number exceeds 40, the average
throughput slowly drops for all four schemes with increasing users. These no-variation trend of
VoIP average throughput may be due to the VoIP traffic model (ON/OFF Markov chain) and the
ON/OFF periods used during simulation. The average throughput graph of best effort flow in Fig.
2(c) depicts that while the user number increases, LOG rule and M-LWDF provide better average
throughput performance compared with FLS algorithm whereas, EXP-rule provides higher
average throughput than FLS scheme for the users ranging from 20 to 50.

Fig. 3, showing the packet loss ratio (PLR) experienced by video and VoIP flows, describes that
the PLR increases with increasing number of users because of increased network loads and the
PLRs experienced by VoIP flows are considerably smaller than that of video flows for all four

scheduling schemes. It can be also noticed that for multimedia flows, lowest PLRs are achieved
using FLS algorithm and EXP rule offers better performance (i.e. smaller PLR) as compared with
LOG rule and M-LWDF. As seen in Fig. 3(a), for video flow, LOG rule and M-LWDF provide
almost same PLR performance. From Fig. 3(b), it is noticed that for VoIP flow, FLS algorithm
maintains below 1% of PLR in the user range of 10 to 50. The PLRs remain within 5% for LOG
rule and M-LWDF scheme and within 3% for EXP rule in the range of 10-40 users.

As seen in Fig. 4(a), the packet delay of video flow gradually increases with increasing number of
users for all four schemes and FLS is showing lowest delay among them. Fig. 4(b) showing the
packet delay of VoIP flow illustrates that, for FLS scheme the packet delay maintains almost
same level while increasing number of users. It is observed that FLS is giving lowest upper bound
of the delay among four schemes and hence shows the lowest PLR.
Fig. 5(a) illustrates that for video flow, fairness index degrades with increasing number of users
for all the four algorithms and FLS scheme ensures highest degree of fairness among them. In
case of VoIP flow (Fig. 5(b)), fairness indexes are maximum when the cell is charged with 10
users and minimum when the user number is 50 for all four scheduling schemes with FLS is
having the highest fairness index.

In this part, two distinct user speed (pedestrian speed – 3 km/h and vehicular speed – 120 km/h)
are considered to study the effects of user’s speed on the performance of the FLS, EXP rule, LOG
rule and M-LWDF packet scheduling algorithms.
4.2.1. Simulation scenario
The simulation scenario considered here is identical to that of Case 1 (Subsection 4.1.1). The
simulation parameters are given in Table 2.

4.2.2. Results and Discussion
Fig. 6 illustrates the effects of user speed on the average throughputs of BE flow, video flow and
VoIP flows. As seen, the average throughputs of video flow (as seen in Fig. 6(a)) and BE flow
(Fig. 6(c)) decrease with increasing users’ speed from 3 km/h to 120 km/h for all four schemes. It
is expected that average throughput decrease with increasing user speed because at higher speed
channel quality measured by UE becomes worse, which in turn triggers lower order modulation to
be selected and thus results in lower average throughput. From the graph of VoIP average
throughput (Fig. 6(b)), it is observed that for FLS, the average throughputs of VoIP flow
maintains almost the same level while the user speed increases. For EXP rule, LOG rule, M-LWDF,
the VoIP average throughput degrades with increasing user speed at higher speed. The
packet loss ratios (PLRs) of video flow and VoIP flow, reported in Fig 7(a) and 7(b) respectively,
show that for multimedia flows, the PLRs become greater when the users are at higher speed. The
reason is- at higher speed poor link adaptation occurs. As seen in Fig. 8, the packet delay
increases with increasing user speed for all four schemes. Fig. 9(a) demonstrates that, for video
flow the fairness index falls at higher user speed for all four algorithms and FLS provides higher
degree of fairness at both user speed. It is seen from the Fig. 9(b) that for VoIP flow, the
considered scheduling schemes provide approximately same fairness index irrespective of user
speed.

5. CONCLUSION
In this paper, the performance study of FLS, EXP rule, LOG rule and M-LWDF packet
scheduling algorithms in LTE downlink has been performed while varying number of users and
users’ speed. The simulation results show that overall FLS scheme outperforms other three
schemes in terms of average throughput, PLR, delay, and fairness index. It is also reported that
the performance of simulated packet scheduling strategies drops noticeably while the users’ speed
increases. Our future work includes to simulate and compare the performance of LTE downlink
packet scheduling algorithms with different scenarios.
