They might also be born
into danger.
 In the movie Percy Jackson-
The Lightning Thief, Percy
Jackson is not an ordinary
guy. He grew up believing
his father left without an
explanation. What he
doesn’t know is that his
father is Poseidon, god of
the sea. His mother is
human, which makes him a
demigod.

3.  Often times, the hero is presented with a problem,
challenge, or adventure they must undertake. Once
they are presented with the ‘call to adventure’, they no
longer live in the ordinary world they once resided in.
 Percy Jackson’s call to adventure is when they are on a
school field trip and his substitute teacher, Mrs.Dodds,
attacks him. She demands he gives her the lighting bolt
but he has no idea what she is talking about. This is
where he is first given notice that strange things are to
come. Mr. Brunner tells Percy about the lightning thief
and how it must be returned before the summer solstice
of there will be a war between the gods.

4.  A hero’s mentor is someone who
has been in the same position
before. The mentor typically
accompanies the her on their
quest and helps them along the
way. They give advice, guidance,
and magical assistance.
 Mr. Brunner and Gover were the
mentors for Percy. They helped
him out throughout the whole
journey of trying to get his
mother back and trying to prove
his innocence. He first found out
these two were not average in the
museum when they saved him
from Mrs.Dodds. They train him
into being a brave demigod.

5.  In a hero’s journey, when they are no longer in
the ordinary world and in a completely
different environment, is when the cross the
threshold.
 Percy crosses the threshold after fighting the
minotaur and crosses into entrance of the
camp. There is an invisible wall which humans
where not along to go through.

6.  Refusal to return is when the hero refuses to
come back to the normal life they once had.
They decide to stay after their adventure when
they find their new normal.
 After Percy rescues his mother, finds the
lighting bolt, and returns it to Zeus he decided
to stay in the camp. He believes that is where
he belongs so he stays.
