Samarthan is a non-profit organization working in Madhya Pradesh since 1995 on strengthening governance. The document discusses two projects undertaken by DOCC student Mohammed Farhan Khan for Samarthan: 1) Analyzing a WASH project in Sehore district and providing recommendations, and 2) Analyzing an SCF project and providing recommendations. Issues found include lack of community participation in maintenance, groundwater depletion, and non-functioning infrastructure. Recommendations include capacity building, training, and developing models. The student gained valuable insights into rural development works and found loopholes prevent benefits from reaching people. The overall experience of working with Samarthan was very positive.

This document outlines Indonesia's milestones in implementing Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) from 2003-2012. It discusses the national policy established in 2003, pilot projects launched in 2005-2006, and the scale up of CLTS across various government programs and donor projects between 2007-2012. It also describes Indonesia's strategic plan for CLTS, which includes 6 components: creating an enabling environment; increasing demand; improving supply; knowledge management; financing; and monitoring and evaluation. The final section discusses lessons learned, noting the 3 key steps of CLTS implementation are changing mindsets, internalization, and collaboration.
Scores collected from community, local government, and company reveal appraisal gap among these three groups. Such gap; may exist because of different perception on
environment aspect (availability of SOP on HSE, air-water-sound pollution prevention and management, contingency plan, post-mining rehabilitation, and access to information and information openness) and social aspect (planning, programs scope, fund allocation,
multi stakeholder involvement, and access to information and information openness).
Appraisal gap occurs because of community’s information lacking –particularly information on HSE standard and Comdev program implementation- that should be provided by company to community, both by means of dissemination and opening community’s access to the
information. Local government’s role in facilitating community’s interests in company in environment and social aspects is not yet optimum, which makes it appear that company and community solve problems between them without local government’s concern.
ABSTRACT: Indonesia is the second-largest plastic waste contributor in the world. This condition certainly
needs to be observed and followed up. This paper records the efforts of the Indonesian government in realizing
a zero-waste program to overcome various waste problems in Indonesia and highlights the variations of zero
waste programs carried out in multiple provinces. This paper also attempts to map the position of the librarian
as a zero waste warrior. Librarians can strengthen their role as managers and providers of various sources of
information needed to educate the public in making waste a new resource for improving the quality of life.

ABSTRACT: Indonesia is the second-largest plastic waste contributor in the world. This condition certainly
needs to be observed and followed up. This paper records the efforts of the Indonesian government in realizing
a zero-waste program to overcome various waste problems in Indonesia and highlights the variations of zero
waste programs carried out in multiple provinces. This paper also attempts to map the position of the librarian
as a zero waste warrior. Librarians can strengthen their role as managers and providers of various sources of
information needed to educate the public in making waste a new resource for improving the quality of life.
