Japan’s NEDO industry-academia-government R&D program’s recent experimental results technically validated potential for LENRs to become major future energy source.
Excess heat was produced in ~ 80% of project’s reported LENR experiments. Whenever excess heat was created, it is most often at Watt-levels or better at reactor operating temperatures of 200 - 300 degrees C. Duration of excess heat production ranged up to weeks, which is non-trivial. Such LENR device behavior represents excellent reproducibility for complex early-stage technology. With respect to reproducibility of device fabrication methods and heat production, these are best-ever experimental results reported to date in field of LENRs.
Watt-level excess heat was produced in Hydrogen (H)- and Deuterium (D)-loaded experimental systems. No deadly energetic (MeV-energy) gamma or neutron radiation was detected during heat production in any project experimental runs. Such observations are consistent with and predicted by the Widom-Larsen theory of LENRs which posits production and capture of ultralow energy neutrons on ‘fuel’ atoms which drive hard-radiation-free nuclear transmutation reactions and decays that release nuclear binding energy in form of copious heat.
In Lattice’s opinion, NEDO project’s outstanding experimental results change LENRs’ Technology Readiness Level (TRL) from TRL-3 to TRL-4 (European Commission definitions). This is an important step in commercialization of LENRs for power generation applications.

The March 11, 2011 disaster created the need to review Japan’s energy architecture. We believe that it will take about 10 years for Japan to fully decide on a new energy and electricity architecture, and it will take about 3 years to reach decisions on the future of Japan’s nuclear power generation. Japan has taken a careful approach towards the development of renewable power, and renewable power - except for hydropower - is substantially lower than in most other advanced countries. Japan’s potential for renewable energy is very high, especially wind and geo-thermal power, and will required substantial changes in laws and regulations, and a decentralized and democratic approach to grid management. Necessary liberalization of Japan’s electricity markets is in preparation, and we will see a rapid development of renewable energy. This report reviews the current situation and the future potential of renewable electrical power in Japan.

January 2018: terse project report summarizing progress in Japanese government NEDO-funded R&D in LENRs for period of Oct. 2015 through Oct. 2017 was released by Technova Inc. on ResearchGate. Herein we will review and discuss NEDO project’s reported progress.
Project scientists reported significant R&D progress toward developing LENR devices that serve as powerful heat sources. Reproducibility of device fabrication techniques and excess heat output were improved. Certain nanocomposite, multi-metal LENR test devices with mass <140 grams cumulatively produced up to ~85 megajoules (MJ) of excess heat per mole (MJ/mol) of absorbed Hydrogen (H) or Deuterium (D); some: duration of heat > 1 month. By contrast, complete combustion of Hydrogen releases ~0.286 MJ/mol of H. Chemical processes cannot explain these results.

Peak Shaving Using Grid-Connected Solar Panels Case Study: Ministry of Islami...IJERA Editor
The main purpose of this paper is to introduce the application of renewable energy, namely solar energy,for peak shaving during peak loads and to investigate the feasibility of using grid-connected solar system for electricity generation in Ministry of Awqaf mosques. PVsyst software is used to find the optimal design for total connected load of 80 kW. The technical performance of 80 kWgrid-connected photovoltaic (PV) solar systems was investigated. Applying renewable energy in building is required by Kuwait government, all sectors should use 30% of the consumed energy from renewable energy in year 2030. The total cost of the solar systems for 1400 mosques is around 512 million dollars and the total cost of energyis39 milliondollars per year according to 0.2 dollarwhich mean that the payback period within 13 years.Based on the study results, the development of grid-connected photovoltaic (PV)solar system in Awqaf mosques in Kuwait could be economically viable and provide peak shaving during peak loads.

Nanocomposite LENR devices in Japanese NEDO industry-academia-government R&D project produced enough cumulative excess heat to boil a cup of tea.
Since 1989, production of calorimetrically measured excess heat during vast majority of experiments with purpose-fabricated LENR devices was a hit-or-miss proposition. When excess heat produced, was typically < 1 Watt for periods ranging from few hours to several days. NEDO greatly improved device fabrication, reproducibility, longevity, and excess heat performance.
For years skeptics summarily dismissed LENRs as a potential new energy source because experiments were unable to produce enough excess heat to even “boil a cup of tea.” Thanks to results of NEDO project, not any more.
NEDO project has demonstrated that LENRs can produce non-trivial, Watt-level amounts of excess heat from nanocomposite multi-metal devices without emission of deadly fluxes of energetic neutron or gamma radiation --- it is safe, radiation-free nuclear technology.

Even if Iceland has a geothermal potential drastically different from that in Belgium, similarities exist in terms of enabling legal framework, environmental and social issues, implementation of projects, operations and maintenance issues, etc. Since Iceland is a step forward in the development of geothermal projects, Icelandic companies can share success keys as well as pitfalls they have encountered.
Avalon Energia is an open-source initiative. It's aim is to solve the climate crisis by encouraging the build up of global carbon-free nuclear energy by solving the nuclear waste issue. Avalon Energia's plan is to remove the obstacles (public opinion, legislation, repository cities) in Finland to safely dispose of global high-level nuclear waste in a network of deep geological repositories in the bedrock of Finland. This is an estimated 10B€ per year or 1T€ total business for Finland. This high-level nuclear waste can be reprocessed in the future to power the entire planet with clean energy for over 70 years. Opinion polls in different countries show that the popularity of nuclear energy skyrockets, if the nuclear waste issues is solved. Let's Rock It!

The program was carried out from 2004 to 2010 and covered the entire spectrum of topics associated with the accelerated implementation of large scale offshore wind power on the North Sea. The topics, described in this book include: * Wind turbines and wind farms (new concepts and design tools) * Transport, installation and logistics * Operation and maintenance * Grid integration * Ecological impacts and spatial planning * Implementation scenarios * Industrial and societal aspects The We@Sea programme's results are presented in the context of worldwide advances in large scale implementation of offshore wind power and science and technology development. From the We@Sea topics, selected projects are summarised. These give a comprehensive view of the contribution of the Netherlands' technical and scientific community to the knowledge base of offshore wind power. In particular significant results were achieved in the development of operation and maintenance (cost estimation and operational optimisation), access technology, new concepts and the analysis of the impact of wind turbines on marine life and birds.

For many months, “Crash Landing On You” continues to be on Netflix’s Top 10 most watched list in the Philippines. Time Magazine also named it as one of the best K-dramas on Netflix. Though I was not a “virgin” in K-drama-bingeing since I first followed the period drama, “Jewel in the Palace” decades ago, I was not really into rom-coms and chick flicks. What piqued my interest was the engaging storyline set in the backdrop of the continuing military if not political conflict in the Korean peninsula. “Crash Landing On You” was inspired by an actual event in 2008 when a South Korean actress on a boat trip with her three friends, accidentally strayed into disputed waters between North and South Korea after getting lost in a fog.
Fresh out of law graduate school in 2002, I was still feeling my way into the professional mainstream. With so much time in my hands and still deciding on how I would restart my career, I thought that perhaps a part-time lecturing job will suit me at that time. It was an avenue for me to reintegrate myself to the legal profession after being out of the country for almost two years. The new millennium was just starting and it was a time for digital transition for a lot of profession. Legal was one of those rapidly adapting to the change.
My love affair with bossa nova actually blossomed when I studied in Europe in 1988. In December of that year, alone and far from family to spend Christmas with, my friends and I decided to spend our winter school break in London. While promenading along Oxford Street, I went inside Virgin Record Shop where I was awed by the wide array of records the likes of which I have not seen before. I bought a collection of vintage but digitally re-mastered bossa nova classics. Reading through the CD jacket, I marveled at how the origins of the music were intertwined with the political and cultural history of Brazil. On that day, I was introduced to the music of composer and arranger Antônio Carlos Jobim, guitarist João Gilberto, poet and lyricist Vinicius de Moraes, saxophonist Stan Getz, guitarist Luis Bonfá, and chanteuse Elis Regina.
COVID-19 and its impact on the world provided a harsh lesson and wake-up call for all of us. People lost their jobs, businesses and entire fortunes on account of a virus whose origins remain a mystery. We worked from home, home schooled our kids, stayed away from senior members of our families, canceled special celebrations and well-planned vacations, and restricted our mobilities because we were afraid to catch and spread the virus. But the one thing that we will never forget is loved ones and friends losing their battle to this horrible illness.

The Duterte administration is banking on its infrastructure development program to be the main driver of the country’s economic recovery as the Philippines is currently in economic recession caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Philippines has suffered from one of the region's worst COVID outbreaks and among the top 25 countries with infections and fatalities, and with the longest government-imposed lockdown. To the credit of the government, a number of infrastructure projects has seen completion despite the quarantine measures in the past months.
Digital technology is becoming a defining factor in the future of mining operations. Robotics and automation through drones, autonomous vehicles and remote-controlled operational systems will be rolled out more widely to enhance exploration efforts production. Cloud computing, information sharing and big data enable work to be performed remotely and more flexibly taking employees away from hazardous on-site events and improving health and safety conditions.
Last 05 April 2020, former Secretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Fulgencio “Jun” Factoran, Jr. died from a lingering illness at the age of 76. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Humanities (cum laude) and Bachelor of Laws from the University of the Philippines (valedictorian, 1967), and his Master of Laws degree from the Harvard Law School. He was a bar topnotcher and a member of the Sigma Rho fraternity, the same UP Law-based fraternity I belong to.
The Philippines is currently facing one of the greatest challenges to its economy with the implementation of containment measures brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic. The enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) imposed by President Duterte was extended to May 15 on areas deemed still at high risk that includes the National Capital Region and nearby provinces in central and southern Luzon, considered the major business hubs of the country. There is no definite date in sight yet for the lifting of the lockdown and opening up the economy, as the government focuses on containing the virus and bringing the infection rate to lower levels. Premature lifting of the lockdown may have dire consequences as a second wave of infections could lead to a bigger toll on the economy.
