The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. - 2. What's new? •As you may know this year as a school we have begun to implement the game sense method of teaching. I understand that many parents have question. •The more traditional approach to teaching PDHPE produced more skilled players who although may have been more skilled at the sports. They are not necessarily playing the sport in a manner which they understand the complexity of the sport.
- 3. Game sense? •The same sense method of teaching aims to develop both skilled and smarter players. Various types of research have shown that the game sense method has in fact changed the way students construct the way they conduct themselves when playing. (Davies, 2010) •The older method of teaching was more effective in most sports which were more focused on brawn over brains. Whereas now more so people focus on being able to play sports in a more strategic manner.
- 4. Game sense continued.. •Previously Australia's method of physical education praised students who came to classes with preexisting skills. Rather then encouraging other students there seems to be a theme of isolating those who do not have those skills. •Game sense encourages all players to refine their skills in a more game based way (Phill,2011). Game sense uses smaller modified games to allow for students to move through the games by working out their own solutions.
- 5. Why game sense? •Game sense games are planned to be inclusive. Allows children to learn through experiences and also aims for students to come to their own outcomes and solutions. •Game sense games are also aimed to prevent dominance from certain students. Which also seems to be a concern of most parents with PE classes. This is one of the reasons we have decided to take a more interactive approach to introduce game sense to parents.
- 6. Outcomes aimed to be achieved •Communicating-COS3.3- communicates confidently in a variety of situations. Game sense aims to improve communication between students and thus in other competitive situations. •Decision making-DMS3.2-making informed decisions and accepts responsibility for consequences. Game sense is created in a manner which encourages students to make quick decisions during game play. •Moving-MOS3.4-refines and applies movement skills creatively to a variety of challenging situations. In all PE classes it is aimed to allows students to utilise movement skills to achieve goals. •Interacting-INS3.3-acts in ways that enhance the contribution of self and others in a range of cooperative situations. Interacting is one of the key areas which are addressed by game sense and it is encouraged in all areas.
