6. WHAT IS ZOMATO?
Zomato is a restaurant search and discovery service which follow foodies to see their reviews
photos in their feed, and discover great new restaurants in the respective region.
It is a food start up company which was initially named as “Foodiebay” and later it was named as
Zomato in November 2010.
The startup is India’s most global, listing 1.4 million restaurants in 23 countries. It has grown
through acquisitions including American rival “Urbanspoon” last year .
8. REVENUE OF THE COMPANY
The current revenue streams and some exciting new products of Zomato are
Restaurant advertising : This is when banner ads is
placed for restaurants on the website. This accounts for 75% of
the revenue.
Event advertising: This is when specific events promote an event
on Zomato . This revenue primarily comes from restaurant based
advertisers.
Typically, tickets for these events are also sold on Zomato.
This accounts for 5% of the revenue.
9. Event ticket sales: Commissions on ticket sales through
Zomato; primarily for restaurant venues in a
particular regions accounts for 15% of the revenue.
Consulting services: When Restaurant chains ask for
advice on opening their next outlet/branch , going
through the data guiding them where the demand lies

11. HOW DOES IT WORK?
It just follows a simple business model .There is a centralized team which processes and provides
data to confirm the validity of the restaurants around the city to the users.
This Data is then processed to be put on the website.
Then there is a separate team for advertising which sells the website to the Restaurant owners and
attracts them to advertise on Zomato.
So the revenues are earned by following this cycle while rest is attributed by Event Ticketing
,Digital Marketing & Restaurant Booking.
13. HOW DOES THEY MAKE PROFIT ?
They make profit both by advertising and transactions, subscriptions. They essentially straddles
both these areas.
Zomato makes money by other ways like booking event tickets. Zomato takes a commission by
selling tickets for various events.
Zomato keeps coming up with products like White label Reservation which contribute to it's
revenue.
Users have started believing in the reviews and started sharing their own views and photos as
well.
