http://wso2.com/library/webinars/2015/09/building-an-enterprise-architecture-with-patterns/
The previous sessions focused on various high level patterns for building effective enterprise architectures (EA). From traditional SOA to resource oriented architectures, and from patterns that are seeing a lot of traction such as event driven architectures to web oriented architectures. These high level concepts provide many best practices and guidelines to enterprise architects looking to evolve their existing EA or for those creating newer EA strategies. But where should you draw the line? Where would an EDA really make sense? Is SOA still the way to go or should we turn our attention to a more granular version of this?
This session wraps up all these four architectural styles. It will
Summarize our findings
Critically analyze the good, the bad and the ugly (if any) of the various patterns
Jointly figure out where they should really fit in

Is SOA the answer to everything? Perhaps not. Web oriented architecture (WOA) or SOA + WWW + REST, takes you several steps further by filling the blanks of SOA and helping you build an end-to-end complete web application. In addition to APIs, WOA identifies user interfaces and application state as first-class components of an architecture. Most of what we build today is actually WOA, though the abbreviation might not be that popular.
This session will discuss
The original definition of WOA by Gartner in 2006
The changes to WOA over the last 10 years
Today’s trends
WOA-Stack
Enterprise Architecture in Practice: from Datastore to APIs and AppsWSO2
Connecting data repositories with applications, building APIs and loosely coupled integration architectures, are crucial for an organisation to be competitive. WSO2Con USA 2017: Providing a Pathway from Stovepipe Systems to a Secure SOA ...WSO2
Eagle Technology Group (TG) has provided IT services to many large organizations, including the US Department of Defense, the US Department of Justice, and other state government and large commercial business entities. Many of these organizations are stifled by years of development of stovepipe systems using outdated technologies. These systems are the result of cumbersome funding processes, mergers and acquisitions, and organizational politics. These organizations have spent millions of dollars and many, many years building the systems they have. Many of these systems have been built largely without thought to integration. In most cases, the preferred solution to this problem is to develop distributed services-based systems. However, these systems will need to be incorporated with existing legacy systems in a way that allows the two worlds to coexist, giving the organization time to wean itself off its legacy systems. Eagle TG has shown organizations that it is possible to migrate to a secure distributed software development/deployment methodology – one that features ‘services’ – using open source enterprise SOA middleware. This session will explore how by using WSO2 products to provide a viable platform, Eagle TG is helping organizations embrace this services development methodology. With little startup cost, quick availability, security, scalability, and robust, efficient operations, WSO2 provides a winning solution.

How iPaaS Overcomes the Challenges of Cloud IntegrationFlowgear
As enterprise IT infrastructure continues to move to the cloud, the need to safely and reliably integrate a wide range of on-premises and cloud systems becomes increasingly critical. However, traditional integration tools are inadequate for handling the complex integration challenges enterprise IT managers face when trying to manage cloud/ground data flow and link cloud-based services with on-premises legacy systems.
Discover how integration-platform-as-a-service (iPaaS) technology offers the most flexible, secure, and reliable way to easily integrate crucial on-premises systems with newer, cloud-based applications and services.
WSO2Con USA 2017: Building Platforms for Rapid Application DevelopmentWSO2
Designing, developing and deploying business capabilities and being able to go-to-market quickly gives businesses a competitive edge. With digital transformation, no company can any longer afford to differentiate between “business” and “IT”. They have to become technology companies themselves because software plays a key role in becoming a digital business and is responsible for running the business. This introduces a broad set of challenges that range from technology acquisition to changes in mindset on how you approach and solve business problems.
This session will explore how to build a platform that allows rapid development of applications through quick prototyping and iterative improvements to application architecture. It also examines how WSO2 can help build such a platform and empower developers to create better customer experiences.

UKOUG - Implementing Enterprise API Management in the Oracle Cloudluisw19
API-led connectivity has become the main mechanism to integrate with SaaS applications. Mobile applications, modern web applications and Internet of things also need APIs. In the Oracle Cloud there are at least 6 cloud services offering a solution for APIs, (Mobile Cloud Service, API Manager Cloud Service, API Platform Cloud Service, API Catalog Cloud Service, IoT Cloud Service and Integration Cloud Service).
This presentation will first and foremost describe what an enterprise-wide API management solution looks like, will elaborate on a solid API taxonomy to then show how to position each of the mentioned cloud services to deliver an end to end API management solution in the Oracle Cloud but also capable of handling hybrid cloud use cases.
In addition real live use cases will be referenced to help contextualise the content presented.

AWS Public Sector Symposium 2014 Canberra | Putting the "Crowd" to work in th...Amazon Web Services
"Cloud" computing provides significant advantages and enormous cost savings by allowing IT infrastructure to be provisioned as a ubiquitous, metered, unit priced and on demand service. However, the other major resourcing issue faced by CIO’s is the provision of skilled labour to develop, support and maintain a increasing wide range of IT applications.
This session will show attendees how the worldwide pool of freelance developers, the "Crowd", can be utilised as a ubiquitous, metered, unit priced and on demand resource pool to work in the "Cloud" to improve responsiveness to customer demands, reduce development timeframes and achieve significant cost savings.
Although the crowd can bring enormous benefits in terms of cost and agility, there are some technical and business barriers to adoption in large organisations. This presentation will discuss the barriers and, using some real examples, will explain how GoSource overcomes them.

Less Is More: Utilizing Ballerina to Architect a Cloud Data PlatformWSO2
At its core, the challenge of managing Human Resources data is an integration challenge: estimates range from 2-3 HR systems in use at a typical SMB, up to a few dozen systems implemented amongst enterprise HR departments, and these systems seldom integrate seamlessly between themselves. Providing a multi-tenant, cloud-native solution to integrate these hundreds of HR-related systems, normalize their disparate data models and then render that consolidated information for stakeholder decision making has been a substantial undertaking, but one significantly eased by leveraging Ballerina. In this session, we’ll cover:
The overall software architecture for VHR’s Cloud Data Platform
Critical decision points leading to adoption of Ballerina for the CDP
Ballerina’s role in multiple evolutionary steps to the current architecture
Roadmap for the CDP architecture and plans for Ballerina
WSO2’s partnership in bringing continual success for the CD
The integration landscape is changing rapidly with the introduction of technologies like GraphQL, gRPC, stream processing, iPaaS, and platformless. However, not all existing applications and industries can keep up with these new technologies. Certain industries, like manufacturing, logistics, and finance, still rely on well-established EDI-based message formats. Some applications use XML or CSV with file-based communications, while others have strict on premises deployment requirements. This talk focuses on how Ballerina's built-in integration capabilities can bridge the gap between "old" and "new" technologies, modernizing enterprise applications without disrupting business operations.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Connector Corner: Automate dynamic content and events by pushing a buttonDianaGray10
Here is something new! In our next Connector Corner webinar, we will demonstrate how you can use a single workflow to:
Create a campaign using Mailchimp with merge tags/fields
Send an interactive Slack channel message (using buttons)
Have the message received by managers and peers along with a test email for review
But there’s more:
In a second workflow supporting the same use case, you’ll see:
Your campaign sent to target colleagues for approval
If the “Approve” button is clicked, a Jira/Zendesk ticket is created for the marketing design team
But—if the “Reject” button is pushed, colleagues will be alerted via Slack message
Join us to learn more about this new, human-in-the-loop capability, brought to you by Integration Service connectors.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

22. ROA Fundamentals
o Uses Representational State Transfer (REST) as the primary design
pattern
o Data is independent of the server and the client - The server
implementation can change over time and there can be many
clients.
o Loose coupling is one of the objectives of the architecture
o “State” is treated as actions performed against the resource
