This document provides a 26-step tutorial for simulating a 2.4 GHz patch antenna using ADS Momentum software. The steps include defining substrate properties, drawing the patch and feedline geometry, setting simulation parameters such as mesh and ports, running an S-parameter simulation, and visualizing current distribution and far-field radiation patterns. Increasing the mesh resolution from 30 to 70 cells per wavelength improves the S11 response and allows simulation of surface currents at the resonant frequency of 2.395 GHz. The tutorial demonstrates the full simulation workflow from design to characterization of antenna performance.
How to create a Composite FEM via HypermeshNorm Lamar
You will learn how to develop a composite part in Hypermesh. Specifically, how to assign an orthotropic material properties and a material direction; define a normal direction, and view the laminate’s material and ply orientations.
METHOD FOR A SIMPLE ENCRYPTION OF IMAGES BASED ON THE CHAOTIC MAP OF BERNOULLIijcsit
In this document, we propose a simple algorithm for the encryption of gray-scale images, although the
scheme is perfectly usable in color images. Prior to encryption, the proposed algorithm includes a pair of
permutation processes, inspired by the Bernoulli mapping. The permutation disperses the image
information to hinder the unauthorized recovery of the original image. The image is encrypted using the
XOR function between a sequence generated from the same Bernoulli mapping and the image data,
obtained after two permutation processes. Finally, for the verification of the algorithm, the gray-scale Lena
pattern image was used; calculating histograms for each stage alongside of the encryption process. The
histograms prove dispersion evolution for pattern image during whole algorithm.

Efficient 3D stereo vision stabilization for multi-camera viewpointsjournalBEEI
In this paper, an algorithm is developed in 3D Stereo vision to improve image stabilization process for multi-camera viewpoints. Finding accurate unique matching key-points using Harris Laplace corner detection method for different photometric changes and geometric transformation in images. Then improved the connectivity of correct matching pairs by minimizing
the global error using spanning tree algorithm. Tree algorithm helps to stabilize randomly positioned camera viewpoints in linear order. The unique matching key-points will be calculated only once with our method.
Then calculated planar transformation will be applied for real time video rendering. The proposed algorithm can process more than 200 camera viewpoints within two seconds.

This framework is a hand movement capturing method which could be done in three different depth levels. The algorithm has the capability of capturing and identifying when the hand is moving up, down, right and left. From these captured movements four signals could be generated. Moreover, when these hand movements are done, 15cm-75cm, 75cm-100cm, 100cm- 200cm from the camera (3 depth levels), twelve different signals could be generated. These generated signals could be used for applications such as game controlling (gaming). The existing method uses an object area based method for depth analysis. The results of the proposed work shows it has high accuracy compared to the existing method when tested for depth analysis.

CONCEPT OF FINITE ELEMENT MODELLING FOR TRUSSES AND BEAMS USING ABAQUSIAEME Publication
Abaqus is one of the powerful engineering software programs which are based on the finite element method. The Abaqus can solve wide range of pr oblems from linear to nonlinear analyses. Abaqus is widely used in many sectors like automotive and mechanical industries for design and development of FEM products. The finite element method is a numerical technique for finding approximate solutions for d ifferential and integral equations. The finite element word was coined by Clough in 1960. In 1960s, engineers used the method for solving the problems in stress analysis, strain analysis, heat and fluid transfer, and other region. Abaqus CAE can provide a simple creating model, submitting the modal, monitoring, and evaluating result and then can also compare with theoretical calculation.

BIOEN 4250: BIOMECHANICS I
Laboratory 4 – Principle Stress and Strain
November 13– 16, 2018
TAs: Allen Lin ([email protected]), Kelly Smith ([email protected])
Lab Quiz: A 10-point lab quiz, accounting for 10% of the lap report grade, will be given at the beginning of
class. Be familiar with the entire protocol.
Objective: The objective of this experiment is to measure the strains along three different axes surrounding
a point on a cantilever beam, calculate the principal strains and stresses, and compare the result
with the stress calculated from the flexure formula for such a beam.
Background: The ability to measure strain is critical to materials testing as well as many other applications in
engineering. However, strain gages that adhere to a surface can alter the local strain environment
if the material (or tissue) of interest is less stiff than the gage itself. For this reason, contact strain
gages (or strain gages that attach directly to a surface) are not typically used for the testing of soft
tissues such as ligament, arteries, or skin. However, when the material is on the stiffer side, or
when the absolute value of the strain is less important than the detection of the mere presence of
strain itself, contact strain gages are very useful. An example of a stiffer biological material would
be bone. However, due to the porous nature of bone, one needs to be extremely careful that the
strain gage is properly adhered to the material’s surface. Other applications range from real world
stress analysis of a structure (e.g., a wing of an aircraft during flight) to strain gages incorporated
into medical equipment to ensure proper function (e.g., gages wrapped around the tubing in a
hospital infusion pump to detect blockages in the line – since the tube swells more than it should
when the fluid path is occluded).
One common engineering loading case that involves a planar stress field (i.e., the only non-zero
stresses are in the same plane), is that of beam bending. Beam bending will be covered in greater
detail during lecture. However, in order to ensure you know the basics of what is going on in this
lab, we will cover some fundamental topics. The simplest case of beam loading is that of a
cantilever beam that is completely anchored at one end and loaded at a point along its length
(Fig. 1). In Figure 1, 𝑃 is the applied load, ℎ is the thickness of the beam (with 𝑐 as the half-
thickness), 𝑥 is the distance from the fixed wall to the location where we want to measure stress
and strain (point 𝑎), and 𝐿 is the length of the beam. There are a couple key points to know about
this loading scenario:
1. As the beam bends downward, the material above the midline (the dashed line) is in
tension and the material below that line is in compression.
2. At the top and bottom free surfaces, there is only axial stress, and zero shear stress.
3. At the midline (dashed line, also referred to as neutral axis)
The part is axisymmetrically modeled in solidworks(2D) before importing to ansys workbench where the boundary zones are identified and appropriate mesh settings is applied. The model is then imported in Fluent for analysis . Significant setting changes are Density based solver , Enhanced Eddy viscosity model with near wall treatment , solution steering , FMG initialization etc.

Momentum
a Tutorial by
Nader Behdad
EEL 6463, Spring 2007

1. Start ADS and create a new project by selecting “File
New Project” item. You can
call this project Tutorial. Start a new layout by clicking on the “New Layout
Window” button (
Figure 1.
). A new layout drawing window appear. This is shown in
Figure 1. Momentum layout window.
2. Select “Momentum
Substrate
Create/Modify” item. The “Create/Modify
Substrate” window pops up. This window is shown in Figure 2. In this window, you
can define the substrate parameters and metal layers and properties all in one place.
Under the “Substrate Layers” tab, you can define the layers of dielectric. In this case,
we have a microstrip fed patch antenna that is fabricated on a 60 mil thick RO4003
substrate. Therefore, we have only one dielectric layer that has an infinitely large
ground plane on one side and free space on the other side; the default dielectric layer
is Alumina. You can change the name to RO4003C and change the thickness to 60
mils. Momentum allows for entering the dielectric parameters in three different
formats. You can use the Real and Imaginary parts of the dielectric constant
( ε r = ε ′ − jε ′′ ), the real part of the dielectric constant in conjunction with its loss
tangent ( tan(δ ) = ε ′′ / ε ′ , or the real part of the dielectric constant in conjunction with
the conductivity of the material. In this case, we will use the “Real, Loss Tangent”
option. You should keep in mind that in many circumstances, all three options are
three different methods of representing the complex dielectric constant of the
material. In the most general case, the complex dielectric constant of a material can
be represented as ε r = ε ′ − jε ′′ − jσ / ω
3. In the same window, you can enter the magnetic properties of the material. In this
case, the material that is used is nonmagnetic. Therefore, you should just make sure
that the Real part of the magnetic permeability is 1 and the imaginary part is 0. At this
stage, your window should look like the one presented in Figure 2.

Figure 2.
4. You can also select the other layers and check their properties. The other two layers
are GND and FreeSpace and you can see that the GND is a perfect electric conductor
(PEC) and FreeSpace is an open layer of free space.
5. While the Create/Modify window is still open, move to the “Metalization Layers” tab.
In this window you can change the properties of metallic layers and assign different
metal layers to the appropriate surfaces. This is shown in Figure 3. On the right hand
side of the menu, you can choose the metal layers and change their properties. In this
case, we are going to use only one conductor layer “cond” and for the time being, we
will consider it to be a perfect electric conductor (PEC). You can change these
settings later on. On the left hand side of the menu, you will see the three substrate
layers GND, RO4003C, and FreeSpace. Notice that there is layer represented with a
horizontal bar “___” between RO4003C and FreeSpace layers. You can select this
layer by clicking on it. After selecting this layer, click on the “Strip” button and the
layer will be assigned as a strip conductor. This means that everything drawn on this
layer is considered a metallic strip. If we had chosen the “slot” option, the layer
would have been assigned as a slot layer. This means that everything drawn on this
layer would have been considered as an aperture in an infinite ground plane; this
option is useful in simulating slot antennas or aperture coupled microstrip antennas.
After assigning the appropriate metallic layers, clock OK and the definition is
complete.
6. In this tutorial, we use millimeters as the length units. Make sure that the default unit

minor grid points on the layout screen. In this design, we would like to have

values of the x and y coordinates are displayed on the screen. Move the mouse to (x =
-15 mm, y = 0 mm) and click on the left button; this places a vertex at that point.
Notice that after placing the first vertex, when you move the mouse cursor the relative
coordinate values are shown and the absolute coordinate values are no longer shown;
this facilitates determining the length and width of the rectangle. In this case, we want
to draw a rectangle with the length of 30 mm and width of 21 mm. Move the mouse
cursor around to the point where dx=30mm and dy=21 mm and click on the left
button. The first rectangle is drawn. Repeat this process and draw another rectangle
with the dimensions of 12.25 mm × 13 mm. This second rectangle should be on the
bottom left side of the first one as shown in Figure 5

is not exactly at the correct place, you can drag and move the object by clicking on

10. The next step is to draw the microstrip line feeding the patch antenna. The width of
the microstrip line is 3.5 mm. This results in a 50 Ω line. The length of the microstrip
line is 31 mm. Therefore, we need to draw a 3.5 mm × 31 mm rectangle. The upper
left corner of the rectangle should be located at (x=-1.75 mm, y=0 mm).
