Past Simple
Definition
The past simple tense describes
an action that started and finished
in the past.
That is to say, it is use the past
simple to describe actions and
events that occurred at a particular
time in the past.
Past Simple
Characteristics
Use the auxiliary 'did' to ask and answer
questions with all the pronouns.
Past time is indicated by words such as
yesterday, last and ago.
Also it is write that auxiliary 'did' after
question words.
It is the only grammatical tense that uses
verbs in the past tense.
Past Simple Types (Regular and Irregular)
The ending ‘-ed' is added to
the verb in the present tense.
Regular Verbs Irregular Verbs
The form is the same for
everyone (I, You, He, She, It,
We, They).
Example:live → lived
work → worked
study → studied
They have the same or
different form to the verb in
the present tense, that is, it
changes totally.
Example:
do → did
break → broke
go → went
