EarthBalance was contracted by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to revegetate over 82 acres of wetlands and 21 acres of uplands at the Tenoroc site in Polk County, Florida. The project involved planting over 1 million herbaceous plants, trees, and shrubs. EarthBalance also seeded 114 acres with various grasses and maintained 97 acres of planted areas for 90 days after project completion. Revegetation activities occurred within 82.66 acres of wetlands, 20.9 acres of uplands, and 73.9 acres of gopher tortoise habitat. Revegetation activities included the supply and installation of over one million herbaceous plants, one gallon trees and shrubs, 3 gallon trees, and 7 gallon trees. In addition to plant installation, approximately 114.10 acres were seeded with a varying mix of switchgrass, browntop millet, alyceclover, lab lab, and Eastern gamagrass using a John Deere seed drill. Project : Revegetation Services in the North Lake Parker Wetlands Location : Polk County, FL Client : Florida Department of Environmental Protection Contact : Mr. Bud Cates (850) 488-8217 Contract Amount : $281,972.58 Current Status : Completed July 2006 Project Team : Mitchell Moore Project Manager Scope of Work: EarthBalance ® was contracted by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to supply, deliver, and install wetland plants to complete the construction of a wetland system that connects several lakes in the Tenoroc Wildlife Management Area, Lake Gibson and Lake Parker. Actual planting occurred within 30.1 acres of forested wetlands and 9.76 acres of herbaceous wetlands. Additional work included the creation of a 3- to 4-foot wide stream with an understory planting of 1,000 1-gallon ferns. Additional work also included the installation of 3,250 trees, 5 acres of native seeding, and installation of erosion control blankets within the surrounding upland buffer. Project : North Golden Gate Estates Regional Offsite Mitigation Area (ROMA) Location : Collier County, FL Client : Collier Soil and Water Conservation District (CSWCD) Contact : Mr. Dennis Vasey 239-455-4100 Contract Amount : $87,480.00 Current Status : Completed July 2009 Project Team : Mitchell Moore Project Manager Dustin Hormann Project Manager Scope of Work: EarthBalance was contracted by the CSWCD for the initial treament of approximately 162 acres of cypress stands, wet prairie, and pine flatwoods that had been heavily infested by melaleuca (Melaleuca quinquenervia) and to a lesser extent Brazilian pepper (Schinus terebinthifolius). As dictated by the contract documents, all melaleuca trees and pepper trees were treated with a water based solution of triclopyr. All pepper trees were basally treated and left in place. The treatment of melaleuca trees consisted of frill and girdle, cut-stump, and foliar application. Utilizing a hydro-ax, EarthBalance also created several access trails throughout the property for transporting crew, equipment and chemical. Approximately six weeks after the completion of the initial treatment activities, field crews returned to the project for a scheduled follow-up treatment to ensure that the specified goal of 95% eradication was achieved. “…… their competency is in planning, organizing, staffing, directing and controlling a project to contract”. Project : State Park Dune Revegetation Project – District 4 Location : Collier County, Lee County, Charlotte County, FL Client : Florida Department of Environmental Protection Contact : Mr. Marshall Flake 850-448-3539, ext. 135 Contract Amount : $335,909.94 Current Status : Completed January 2007 Project Team : Charles Kocur Project Oversight Mitchell Moore Project Manager Scope of Work: EarthBalance ® was contracted by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to grow, supply, and install 491,300 sea oats ( Uniola paniculata ) for the stabilization and restoration of dune structures damaged or destroyed during the 2004 hurricane season at four District 4 Florida State Park sites. These sites included Stump Pass Beach State Park and Don Pedro Island State Park located in Charlotte County; Delnor Wiggins Pass State Park located in Collier County; and Gasparilla Island State Park in Lee County. Quantities planted at each park site were 159,200 units at Stump Pass; 44,600 units at Don Pedro Island; 98,500 at Gasparilla Island; and 189,000 units at Delnor Wiggins Pass State Park, for a total of 491,300 units. The source for all sea oats was seed collected from Palm Island, Florida.
