Plants have several important functions. Roots anchor plants, absorb water and minerals to transport throughout the stem, and store food. Stems transport water, minerals, and food between roots and leaves while also supporting leaves and reproductive structures. Plants are a primary food source, produce oxygen, and help renew the air, cool temperatures, prevent erosion, and provide building materials.
