This Second Life tour highlights an educator's journey - Lyr Lobo - from the first days in world to the start of the NMC Teachers Buzz to taking virtual world classes, designing classes, teaching classes, examining research and mentoring on the Teen Grid.
It showcases projects and activities from English composition, literature, software design, game design, systems engineering methods, software requirements engineering and Teen Grid classes at the Ramapo islands by Suffern Middle School, including a couple of initial photos from the Summer 2007 - CS 835 robotics class activities at Colorado Technical University (CTU).
The photos include new content from recent projects and Elf Circle activities.

Encke Virtual University Collaboration: Bringing Educators Together in Second...
The Encke Virtual University Collaboration brought educators from around the world to an island in Second Life to listen to some presentations from experts in the field, embark on a series of field trips but most importantly to collaborate in teams around a number of topics including bots, communities of practice and gamification. Like the comet Encke, the Encke Virtual University Collaboration had a long tail, with a number of workshops and events, and collaborations developing over the following months.
Exploring Literary Texts Through Virtual Worlds

A selection of images from my role as Virtual World Content Designer (using the Second Life platform) for the theatre production "SPINE". "SPINE" was commissioned for the 2010 Cultural Olympiad and produced by Realwheels and University of Alberta.
I built custom avatars and environments and shot machinima clips that were projected onto a variety of surfaces on stage.

This presentation discusses virtual spaces as participatory pedagogy in which student learning is formulated through exploration, reflection and collaboration (Hobbs et al 2006) both individually and as a group. Importantly, we argue that virtual environments such as Second Life have shown educators that we need to rethink existing learning strategies and enhance them with innovative tools that encourage creative thinking and promote technical skills that foster communities of knowledge and practice.
Questions:
1) How can virtual worlds effectively challenge the ways we sociologically frame education and educational practices?
2) What are some of the obstacles educators face when converging real life and virtual worlds into their pedagogical style, and in the classroom?
