This document summarizes the transformation of a Research Methods module at the master's level to incorporate more online and collaborative learning elements. Key aspects included adopting a co-construction approach where learners and teachers share expertise, using connectivism as a learning theory, developing 9 online Learning Episodes with activities and assessments, and facilitating collaborative work between student clusters online with less direct tutoring. The process involved conversations with various stakeholders and revealed the need for tutor training on online pedagogies to develop engaging online communities of learners.

Learning outcomes, learner levels, and accessibility
Active learning in self-directed and distance contexts
Turning resources and assessments into a course or textbook
This presentation will assist in preparing a novice online EFL teacher for not only the complexities, problems, responsibilities and challenges encountered but also the tremendous rewards that can be gained from the e-moderation process. The role played by the e-moderator in creating and teaching an online course in English as a Foreign language will be explored. In particular, the e-moderators beliefs and perceptions as well as the challenges encountered throughout the process. Furthermore, It will detail the relevant theories of online learning and show how they are represented through various models, creating a framework to assist the e-moderation process.

Open SUNY NDLW: Using open source virtual-reality environments for community...Erin Maney
Immersive, 3-D environments have offered opportunities for distance participants to share in any number of activities. With the advent of open source environments that are low-cost and that come either pre-configured or easily configured, this instructor has used these environments in class activities including: presentations, discussions, poster sessions, team meetings within a class, and shared activities (such as visiting other islands or testing 3-D building). Using action research the effectiveness of these environments on community building has been studied and published; students have overcome the isolation of discussion-board-driven online environments and been able to form more effective academic and personal relationships within courses.
Many universities are currently shifting from face-to-face education into the online distance education, others are becoming dual-mode universities and a few others are totally online and at distance. However, the transition has not been easy. With the adoption of new educational models leading to a virtual university, many issues related to technology and pedagogy have unfolded significantly. While adopting technology into their teaching to deliver instruction and manage online courses at distance, teaching faculty have become totally immersed in a discussion concerning how to apply principles of pedagogy to technology. Best pedagogical practices in Moodle are discussed in this presentation.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

2. Terminology is value laden... Distance learning Learning technologies E-learning Online learning Blended learning Blended e-learning Open learning Digital pedagogies
3. Background to our case study University directive - revalidation of all Level 7 (M Level) modules Opportunity to rethink our approach to our Masters Education programme Challenge historical delivery methods, rethink ways of working with our students part time working teachers Work with participants completely online for a least one module of the programme
4. The ideology of ‘co-construction’ (1) The quality and development of higher order thinking is prepared by the co-constructive patterns and distinctive properties of social interaction (Reusser, 2001) Mutual understandings Peer co-operative dialogue Designing effective collaborative learning environments
5. The ideology of ‘co-construction’ (2) Askew and Lodge (2000) - the co-constructivist approach as an opportunity for learners and teachers to share expertise and experiences within a context of mutual respect. One of the key aspects of co-construction is the development of effective collaborative learning environments.
8. Why start with Research Methods? (2) Wagner et al (2011): ‘As yet limited attention has been given to developing the sort of ‘pedagogical culture’ in research methods that is well established in a number of other disciplines (Coombs and Rybacki 1999; Newstead 2009). By pedagogical culture we refer to the exchange of ideas within a climate of systematic debate, investigation and evaluation surrounding all aspects of teaching and learning in the subject.’ (p75)
10. Challenges Laurillard(2002) comments universities capable of adapting to changing environments will understand the importance of 'an internal learning conversation that allows it to learn from experience, and adapt to its environment' (p215).
11. We tried to create an influential internal learning conversation by involving in the design of the module: the Dean the of the School of Education (SED) The Associate Dean for teaching and Learning (SED) The Associate Dean for Blended Learning in the Two research active ‘champions’ in the field of digital literacies: eportfolio and Gaming A Professor of Education who leads the Education research centre library staff
12. Paulo Friere and Donald Schon use the notion of generative words/themes - emotive words that resonate and provide a focus for change:
13. Learning conversation outcomes Use University VLE Use the approach of 9 Learning Episodes (LEs) Senior colleagues to develop LEs to extend their understanding Same template for each LE –video introduction/activity/annotated reading/links to assessment
14. We soon realised we were talking about our own development more than we were the development of the module
15. Transformations Double-loop learning occurs when error is detected and corrected in ways that involve the modification of an organization’s underlying norms, policies and objectives (Argyris and Schön 1978)
16. Transformations ‘we can digitise materials’ ‘we need to challenge and engage learners online’
18. Transformations ‘There are some really easy-to-mark online tests we can use’ ‘Formative assessment can be shared online in participant clusters‘
19. Transformations ‘Easy for tutors to mark formative tasks’ ‘Participants can collaborate together on formative tasks and feedback to each other’
20. Transformations ‘Once participants start talking to one another the tutor won’t need to do much’ ‘The tutor will need development and training to learn how to develop engaging communities online’
21. Transformations ‘Tutors can use the VLE to monitor who takes part in clustered activities’ ‘Tutors accept that many behaviours exist online and ‘lurking’ is a natural part of learning online’

Editor's Notes
I would argue that there is a history here of how we are trying to come to terms with this changing and chaotic worldThere is also a movement in values‘Digital pedagogies’ is the first phrase in my view to suggest that there is a learning and teaching issue hereAnecdote: McGraw Hill sales pitch – most discussions about

Lamaster et al (2004) refer to action research as 'a methodological process involving problem identification, action planning, implementation, evaluation and reflection' (389). We are at the beginning of the first cycle of this process. Another reason for creating an action research project from the development was that we wanted to share our work internally so the development could inform and guide other online developments. But we also wanted to share externally too, particularly
We soon began to use these kinds of words
