This document describes a laboratory experiment for an undergraduate system dynamics course to identify physical parameters of a mass-spring-damper system using parametric system identification. Students will collect step response data from the system under different mass configurations and use the data to determine damped natural frequency and damping ratio. Equations relating these parameters to the physical stiffness, mass, and damping values will then allow the students to estimate the physical parameters without disassembling the system. The goal is for students to understand that lumped parameter models are an approximation and will not perfectly match experimental data due to small nonlinearities in real systems.

Investigation of Steady-State Carrier Distribution in CNT Porins in Neuronal ...Kyle Poe
In this work, the carrier distribution of a carbon nanotube inserted into the spinal ganglion neuronal membrane is examined. After primary characterization based on previous work, the nanotube is approximated as a one-dimensional system, and the Poisson and Schrödinger equations are solved using an iterative finite-difference scheme. It was found that carriers aggregate near the center of the tube, with a negative carrier density of ⟨ρn⟩ = 7.89 × 10^13 cm−3 and positive carrier density of ⟨ρp⟩ = 3.85 × 10^13 cm−3. In future work, the erratic behavior of convergence will be investigated.
This 10 hours class is intended to give students the basis to empirically solve statistical problems. Talk 3 presents the point estimate, the confidence interval and the hypothesis test for the most important parameters. Talk 4 introduces to the linear regression model and Talk 5 to the bootstrap world. Talk 5 also presents an easy example of a markov chains.
All the talks are supported by script codes, in R language.

Linear regression [Theory and Application (In physics point of view) using py...ANIRBANMAJUMDAR18
Machine-learning models are behind many recent technological advances, including high-accuracy translations of the text and self-driving cars. They are also increasingly used by researchers to help in solving physics problems, like Finding new phases of matter, Detecting interesting outliers
in data from high-energy physics experiments, Founding astronomical objects are known as gravitational lenses in maps of the night sky etc. The rudimentary algorithm that every Machine Learning enthusiast starts with is a linear regression algorithm. In statistics, linear regression is a linear approach to modelling the relationship between a scalar response (or dependent variable) and one or more explanatory variables (or independent
variables). Linear regression analysis (least squares) is used in a physics lab to prepare the computer-aided report and to fit data. In this article, the application is made to experiment: 'DETERMINATION OF DIELECTRIC CONSTANT OF NON-CONDUCTING LIQUIDS'. The entire computation is made through Python 3.6 programming language in this article.
Large variance and fat tail of damage by natural disasterHang-Hyun Jo
In order to account for large variance and fat tail of damage by natural disaster, we study a simple model by combining distributions of disaster and population/property with their spatial correlation. We assume fat-tailed or power-law distributions for disaster and population/property exposed to the disaster, and a constant vulnerability for exposed population/property. Our model suggests that the fat tail property of damage can be determined either by that of disaster or by those of population/property depending on which tail is fatter. It is also found that the spatial correlations of population/property can enhance or reduce the variance of damage depending on how fat the tails of population/property are. In case of tornadoes in the United States, we show that the damage does have fat tail property. Our results support that the standard cost-benefit analysis would not be reliable for social investment in vulnerability reduction and disaster prevention.

A Novel Methodology for Designing Linear Phase IIR FiltersIDES Editor
This paper presents a novel technique for
designing an Infinite Impulse Response (IIR) Filter with
Linear Phase Response. The design of IIR filter is always a
challenging task due to the reason that a Linear Phase
Response is not realizable in this kind. The conventional
techniques involve large number of samples and higher
order filter for better approximation resulting in complex
hardware for implementing the same. In addition, an
extensive computational resource for obtaining the inverse
of huge matrices is required. However, we propose a
technique, which uses the frequency domain sampling along
with the linear programming concept to achieve a filter
design, which gives a best approximation for the linear
phase response. The proposed method can give the closest
response with less number of samples (only 10) and is
computationally simple. We have presented the filter design
along with its formulation and solving methodology.
Numerical results are used to substantiate the efficiency of
the proposed method.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
