How did Eve got tempted?
-> It all starts when looking at the beauty of
Paradise, Satan reaffirms decision to make evil his
good and continue to commit crimes against God.
-> Satan takes the shape of a cormorant (a large
bird) and flies to the top of the Tree of Life.
-> Uriel saw Satan from his post, notices the violent
emotions and warns other angels that an impostor is
in their midst and the angels agrees to find the
Garden for an outsider.
-> Meanwhile, Adam and Eve walk in the Garden,
carefully obeying God’s supreme order not to eat
from the Tree of Knowledge.
-> After a long day of work, they return to their
bower and rest. Satan takes the form of a toad and
whispers into Eve’s ear.
-> Gabriel the angel set to guard Paradise, orders
Satan to leave. Satan prepares to fight with Gabriel
but God makes a sign appear in the sky, the Golden
Scales of Justice Satan runs away.
-> Eve wakes and says Adam about the dream she
had in which a angel tempted her to eat from the
forbidden tree. God sends Raphael down to Earth to
teach Adam and Eve about the dangers they face
with Satan.
-> Satan searches for Eve and is delighted to
find her alone. In the form of a serpent, he
talks to Eve and compliments her on her
beauty.
-> Eve is amazed to find an animal that can
speak, she asked how he could speak then
Satan replied that he ate from the Tree of
Knowledge.
-> He tells Eve that God actually wants her
and Adam to eat from the tree, and God is
only testing their courage.
-> Eve at first hesitates but then reaches for a
fruit from the Tree of Knowledge and eats.
She becomes terrified and searches for Adam.
-> When Eve finds Adam, he is horrified to find
that Eve has eaten from the forbidden tree,
knowing that Eve has fallen he also decides to
fall with her than remaining pure and loosing
her. So he also eats.
-> God immediately came to know about their
disobedience. He tells the angels that Adam
and Eve should be punished, but with a
display of both mercy and justice.
-> The Son first punishes the serpent whose body Satan took,
and condemns it never to walk upright again.
-> Then the Son tells Adam and Eve that they must now suffer
pain and death. Eve and all women must suffer the pain of
childbirth and must submit to their husbands.
-> Adam and all men must hunt and grow their own food on
Earth.
How did Hester Prynne got tempted?
-> The Scarlet Letter is a book which deals with the
values of the sin of adultery in the lives of three
people. The three people are Hester Prynne, Arthur
Dimmesdale and Chillingworth.
-> The novel begins with a young woman, Hester
Prynne standing at the Scaffold in the market place
in Boston.
-> Someone tells an elderly onlooker that Hester is
being punished for adultery. Hester’s husband, sent
her to America, but he never arrived in Boston, as he
gets lost in sea. While waiting for her husband, she
gets in an affair and gives birth to a child.
-> Hester Prynne, is led from the town prison
with her infant daughter, Pearl, in her arms
and the scarlet letter “A” on her breast.
-> Chillingworth suspects a connection
between the minister and Hester, begins to
test Dimmesdale. Once while the minister was
sleeping, he discovers a mark on the man’s
breast which convinces him.
-> The former lovers decide to flee to Europe,
where they can live with Pearl as a
family. Chillingworth knows of their plan and
has booked passage on the same ship.
-> Dimmesdale confesses publicly, exposing a scarlet
letter seared into the flesh of his chest. He falls dead,
as Pearl kisses him. Chillingworth also dies a year
later.
-> When Hester dies, she is buried next to
Dimmesdale. The two share a single tombstone,
which bears a scarlet “A.”
Comparison between Eve and Hester
Prynne
-> Eve is superior to Adam only in her beauty.
When she looks in the water and falls in love
with her own reflection, Eve is linked to the
flaw of vanity, and Satan as the serpent will
use this defect against her.
-> After she eats the fruit, Eve immediately
changes. She begins to think of ways of
becoming Adam’s equal or superior than him.
She also fears from loosing Adam to other
female creation so she makes Adam also to
eat.
-> Eve falls after Adam, she gets the more
painful punishment then Adam that while
Child birth she has to undergo much pain
while Adam only gets the punishment of
working outside.
-> When Hester and Chillingworth left
Amsterdam for the New World, he sent her
ahead, but he was reportedly lost at sea.
-> Then Hester and Dimmesdale started to see
each other, in the midst of their relation Hester
gave birth to a child. For this act of sin of her’s
she gets punished, while nothing happens to
Dimmesdale.
