This document presents a systematic literature review on the distributed software development process, aiming to identify key factors and improvement initiatives specific to global software development (GSD) as opposed to collocated software development (CSD). It outlines the research methodology and objectives, detailing the qualitative and quantitative analysis of literature to derive insights that could enhance GSD maturity and capabilities, especially for small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in developing countries. The findings intend to inform future research and practice in software process improvement within the context of GSD.
