This document summarizes a research paper that studied how to integrate agile software development methods like Extreme Programming (XP) into traditional stage-gate project management models. It discusses how agile methods have evolved for smaller projects but must work within larger product development contexts. The paper presents a case study of two large software projects that used XP within stage-gate management. It finds that integrating XP is possible if the interfaces with the agile subproject and management attitudes towards agility are properly managed.
