 What is Rasa?
 A blending of various Bhavas arise certain
emotion, accomplice by thrill and a sense of joy
is Rasa.
 Rasa in Bhratmuni is nothing but the exposition
of the structure of human experience.
 Bharatmuni has mentioned these and Rasa. He
elaborated states for each its colour, deity, the
vibhav, unubhav and sancharibhav and how
they should be acted.

Alamkara School
 Bhamaha is the first alamkara poetician.
 It is a figure of speech external to poetry or
is it an integral part of conceptualization
and the way the poet visualizes.
 Example of alamkara:
 Rudrata divides all alamkaras into two
types:
 1}Phonetic Form(Sabdalamkara)
 2}Meaning Form(Arthalamkara)

 Riti is Vamana developed into a theory as
the theory of “Vishista padracana”.
 “Every Writer has own style to write with
own originality.”
 So this self identification also known
as…Riti.
 Riti is the soul of poetry.
 Riti may be called diction particularly when
guna/dosha become part of discussion.
Dhavani School
 Dhavani meaning:
“The suggestive quality of poetic language”.
Anandvardhana established element of Dhavani.
“Dhvanyaloka” Anandvardhana has presented a structural
analysis of indirect literary meaning.
Three types of literary meaning:
1) Abhidha: Direct meaning
2) Lakshana: We have a direct meaning but we have take
another one.
3) Vyanjana: There is the existence of direct meaning yet
we have to use another meaning of word.
Vakrokti School
 Kuntka’s concept of Vakrokti:
 Vakrokti is a mode of exprssion in
poetry, Which underlies, forms of all
poetic figure. Therefore Dandian uses
the term Vakrokti as a almost co-
extensive with the generic term
“Alamkara”.
 Danndian Defines,
“ Vakrokti as a poetc figure
accept Svabhavakti”.

 Prakarana
 Prabundha
Aucitya school
 Ksemendra made aucitya the centeral
elemwnts of literariness. Aucitya is
harmony and in one aspect it is
proportion between the whole and the
parts between the chief and the
subsidiary.
 Aucitya is stated to be the jivita, life-birth
of poetry.

Rasa School  What is Rasa?  A blending of various Bhavas arise certain emotion, accomplice by thrill and a sense of joy is Rasa.  Rasa in Bhratmuni is nothing but the exposition of the structure of human experience.  Bharatmuni has mentioned these and Rasa. He elaborated states for each its colour, deity, the vibhav, unubhav and sancharibhav and how they should be acted.

Alamkara School  Bhamaha is the first alamkara poetician.  It is a figure of speech external to poetry or is it an integral part of conceptualization and the way the poet visualizes.  Example of alamkara:  Rudrata divides all alamkaras into two types:  1}Phonetic Form(Sabdalamkara)  2}Meaning Form(Arthalamkara)

Riti School  Riti is Vamana developed into a theory as the theory of “Vishista padracana”.  “Every Writer has own style to write with own originality.”  So this self identification also known as…Riti.  Riti is the soul of poetry.  Riti may be called diction particularly when guna/dosha become part of discussion.
  • 8. Dhavani School  Dhavani meaning: “The suggestive quality of poetic language”. Anandvardhana established element of Dhavani. “Dhvanyaloka” Anandvardhana has presented a structural analysis of indirect literary meaning. Three types of literary meaning: 1) Abhidha: Direct meaning 2) Lakshana: We have a direct meaning but we have take another one. 3) Vyanjana: There is the existence of direct meaning yet we have to use another meaning of word.
  • 9. Vakrokti School  Kuntka’s concept of Vakrokti:  Vakrokti is a mode of exprssion in poetry, Which underlies, forms of all poetic figure. Therefore Dandian uses the term Vakrokti as a almost co- extensive with the generic term “Alamkara”.  Danndian Defines, “ Vakrokti as a poetc figure accept Svabhavakti”.

  • 11. Aucitya school  Ksemendra made aucitya the centeral elemwnts of literariness. Aucitya is harmony and in one aspect it is proportion between the whole and the parts between the chief and the subsidiary.  Aucitya is stated to be the jivita, life-birth of poetry.
