This paper attempts to critically understand the relation and influence of English metaphysical poet John Donne 1572 1631 on Rabindranath Tagore’s 1861 1941 poems. As indicated by the Cambridge Dictionary, metaphysical poetry identifies with the piece of theory that is tied in with getting presence and information"; while theory then again, is "the affective reason in viewing things with the aspect of the present reality and presence. Subsequently, by suggestion, however, till this day there is no fully effective definition of metaphysical poetry, as it requires a variety of characteristics which will be presented in this paper along with the brief history behind the metaphysical poets and inspirations.

Metaphysical poetry is a genre of poetry, that deals
with deep and profound subjects like faith, spirituality,
religion, etc. It is highly intellectual form of poetry and
presents the world to its readers in a different way. It
asks questions that science can not answer.
5. Metaphysical poetry prompts the readers to questions their
reality and existence. The word ‘Meta’ means, ‘After’ or
‘beyond’. So the literal translation of metaphysical is after
the physical , basically metaphysical deals with question
that can not be explained by science. Such as :
Does God exists?
Is Soul eternal?
Is fake or real?
Author Samuel Johnson made the first use of the word
Metaphysical poetry. He used the term Meta. Poet to
define a group of poets of 17th century.
6. JONE DONNE:-
Jone Donne leader or pounder school of
metaphysical poetry. He was not only
poet but also lawyer, satirist, priest.
There was a poet who used to argue in
his poems like a clever lawyer.
The most influential metaphysical poet.
Most of his works centered around his
personal relationship with spirituality. Jone
Donne poem “The good Morrow” use wit or
conceits in comparing between the
unconscious lovers and the seven sleepers
who slept for two hundred years between
two lovers and two hemisphere. There odd
comparison signature ‘the flea’.
‘Death be not proud’ was John Donne’s
world best sonnet.
7. GEORGE HERBERT:
None of his poem were
published during his life
time. He is saint of the
metaphysical school.
Professor Polmer says about him,
“Herbert the first English poet who
spoke face to face with god.”
8. MARVELL:
Marvell was a puritan songster marvell most recognized
poem. We see the poem uses wit of its full force.
