11. ➢ What is Non-academic Writing ?
● Most of non academic writings do not include references, citations or a list of sources. Nor
are they extensively well-researched as academic writing. Moreover, non academic writing
often does not have a rigid structure as academic writing. It is often free-flowing and
reflects the style and personality of the writer.
● Non-academic writing refers to any form of writing that is not intended for academic or
scholarly purposes. This type of writing is usually more informal and often written for a
general audience rather than for experts in a particular field. (Swales and Feak)
● The language in non-academic writing is informal or casual. Some types of non- academic writing
may even contain slang. Newspaper articles, memoirs, magazine articles, personal or business
letters, novels, websites, text messages, etc. are some examples of non-academic writing. The content
of these writings is often a general topic, unlike academic writing, which mainly focuses on a specific
field. Furthermore, the main aim of a piece of non-academic writing is to inform, entertain or
persuade the readers. (Björk and Räisänen)
12. ➢ What is Non-academic Writing ?
● Non academic writing is only for friends and family. It is just like conversation which never include serious
thoughts and references. Non academic writing mostly joined by conjunctions. In this writing, writer may
include emotions, feelings and personal experience and the most important thing that s/he tells story from
her/his perspective to share it with readers flaw of paragraph must be lost in this writing and structure of
writing can't be hold up till the end.
● Personal blog writing , Facebook posts and any personal journal writing can be included in the
non-academic writing because there are everybody free to share their views , and also can express their
emotions towards any matter or things publicly without any evidence.
13. ➢ What is difference between Academic Writing and Non- academic Writing?
● According to Hyland academic writing is a kind of means to discuss knowledge claims.Academic writing should be the
most concrete social text; it should be considered as collective social practices rather than concerning linguistic
features as regularities of academic writing. The most goals of academic writing will be persuasive; to persuade an
evaluation in a review, to accept a knowledge claim in a research paper and to acknowledge a schema in a text book.
On the other hand, non-academic writing is a kind of individual text in which writers think, feel or believe something. It
doesn't include literature, personal essays, articles, or writing in popular magazines and newspapers. (Hyland)
● The separation between academic and non-academic is not simple or absolute. One will see
non-academic style in academic texts; and academic features will occur in non-academic texts. But it
is generally true that academic texts have predictable patterns of grammar, organisation, argument
and of giving credit to the work and words of others.
● Academic writing is often based on research, data, and evidence, which must be cited and
referenced correctly. Non-academic writing may rely on personal experiences, anecdotes, or opinions.

➢ What is difference between Academic Writing and Non- academic Writing?
The rules of academic writing in English
are quite complicated; nevertheless most
students find that they can recognize the
difference between informal writing and
formal, academic writing.
15. ➢ Conclusion :-
In conclusion, academic writing and non-academic
writing differ significantly in terms of their purpose,
audience, style, and conventions. Academic writing
is formal, objective, and aimed at contributing to
scholarly discourse within a specific field. It adheres
to strict guidelines, employs precise language, and
relies heavily on credible sources and evidence.
Non-academic writing, on the other hand, is more
flexible, subjective, and caters to a general
audience. It often employs a more conversational
and engaging style, and its primary purpose is to
inform, entertain, or persuade the reader. While
academic writing prioritizes accuracy, objectivity,
and adherence to established norms, non-academic
writing allows for more creative expression and
personal voice. Ultimately, the choice between
academic and non-academic writing depends on
the intended purpose, audience, and context of the
written work.
