The pancreas has three surfaces - anterior, posterior, and inferior. Its body extends from the neck to the tail. The anterior border attaches to the transverse mesocolon while the superior border lies near the celiac trunk, hepatic artery, and splenic artery. The main pancreatic duct begins in the tail and runs toward the head where it joins the bile duct. The accessory pancreatic duct also drains into the duodenum separately. The tail of the pancreas lies in the lienorenal ligament between the left kidney and spleen, near the gastric surface of the spleen.
