It's lower part forms the
upper 2/5 of
acetabulum
The ilium has the
following
Upper end__ iliac
crest
Lower end _ which
fused with pubis and
ischium at the
acetabulum
Three 3 borders (
anterior, posterior,
medial)
Three 3 surface
(gluteal surface, iliac
surface or iliac fossa
and sacropelvic
surface)

The iliac crest
is broad
convex ridge
forming the
upper end of
ilium
Anteriorly_
anterior
superior iliac
spine
Posteriorly__
posterior
superior iliac
spine
At the level of
L3 and L4
Iliac crest have
2 lips inner and
outer

Of
Ilium
Anterior border
Anterior border start at
the anterior superior
iliac spine and runs
down to the acetabulum
In lower part of the
anterior border___
anterior inferior iliac
spine

Posterior
border
Posterior border
extend from the
posterior superior
iliac spine to the
upper end of the
ischium.
Below the ASIS
posterior inferior
iliac spine.
Below the
posterior inferior
iliac spine a large
deep notch called
greater sciatic
notch

Border of
Ilium
Medial border
extend on the inner
or pelvic surface of
the ilium.
From iliac crest to
the iliopubic
eminence.
It separates the
iliac fossa from the
sacropelvic surface

of the ilium
Gluteal
surface
Gluteal surface is
outer surface of
ilium
Covex in front and
concave behind
It divided into 4
areas by 3 gluteal
line
Posterior gluteal
line
Anterior gluteal line
Inferior gluteal line

9. Iliac fossa
Or
Iliac surface
Iliac fossa is large
concave area on the
inner surface of the
ilium
Situated in front of its
medial border
It form s the lateral wall
of the false pelvis

10. Sacropelvic
surface
On the inner surface
of ilium
It divided into 3
parts
1__ iliac Tuberosity (
upper large
roughend area, lying
just below the iliac
crest)
2_ auricular surface
(it articulates with
sacrum to form
sacroiliac joint)
3_ pelvic surface (
smooth, lies
Anterioinfer to the
auricular surface, it
forms the true
pelvis
