The Science Behind
Paleo Proteins Perfected
Body Symphony:
Where Science Meets Nature
L-Carnitine is a non-essential amino
acid-like substance made by the body
from two other amino acids
(lysine & methionine).
It, and its precursor lysine are known
to be low in most plant-based diets.
L-Carnitine
Carnitine is known to increase fat transport into
cells, thereby:
1. Increasing fat burning and energy production,
2. Enhancing physical performance,
3. It spares glycogen,
4. Helps clear muscle lactate,
and 5. is associated with an increased anabolic
hormone response.

It works best when cell membranes are
healthy.
Of course, this is true for most nutrients,
but even more so for carnitine.
Proper insulin levels and insulin sensitivity
are also crucial, as insulin is required for
carnitine’s transport into cells.
L-Carnitine
Studies show: a 24% reduction in
triglycerides and 29% reduction in FFAs
following carnitine supplementation
(both due to carnitine’s ability to
transport these substances into the cell
for utilization).

Carnitine has also been shown to
activate the body’s fat burning genes.
I.e., it acts as a gene response modifier.
It helps prevent the build-up of visceral fat
and may help to break it down.

It has been shown to boost peak performance
(by 11%) in trained athletes after a minimum of 3
months of consistent use.
Carnitine increases work performance while
reducing perceived exertion.

Increased muscle carnitine helps reduce pain,
muscle damage, and markers of metabolic stress
by reducing lactic acid production by increasing
energy production from fats vs. carbohydrates.
A 44% reduction in lactate buildup was
demonstrated in those supplementing carnitine
vs. the control group (at 80% max).
L-Carnitine

A 55% reduction in glycogen use was
demonstrated in the carnitine supplementing
group at 50% max. workload.
The same study showed an increased
work output of 35% in the carnitine group
at a lower perceived exertion level.
L-Carnitine
Carnitine increases both short & long-term recovery
from intense training with reduced pain from
soreness while feeling more energized.
It increases the anabolic response by up-regulating
androgen receptors (l/t: > T uptake & protein
synthesis). The Carnitine experimental group also had
reduced muscle tissue damage & increased IGFBP-3
(insulin-like growth factor binding protein a/w >
tissue synthesis).

Carnitine increases insulin sensitivity and function;
it helps prevent metabolic syndrome and type 2 Diabetes.
Long-term use is required to reap benefits (3 weeks for
androgen receptor up-regulation, reduced triglycerides- 3
months, muscle Carnitine levels elevated after 5-6 mos.).
It counters cachexia or wasting syndrome (a/w: Cancer,
AIDS, and chronic Ht &/or lung Dz) l/t increased survival.
L-Carnitine
Increased Carnitine levels are also a/w
increased male fertility & healthier sperm.
So, hopefully that makes it clear as to why we’ve
fortified our Paleo Proteins Perfected line
with L-carnitine
