Power Resources of Pakistan
Overview
 Introduction
 Power generating firms in Pakistan
 Sources of energy in Pakistan
 Energy crises in Pakistan
Introduction
Production of electricity is known as power production.
Power generating firm in Pakistan
1. WAPDA: It generates 11399 MW electricity
by hydel power plants and thermal power
plants.
2. IPP: It generates 6374MW energy by thermal
power plants.
3. Nuclear Power Plant: It only generates 462
MW electricity.
Energy Crises in Pakistan
The demand of energy increases with the
increase in population.
2266 MW electricity is required while we are
producing only 20190 MW.
Pakistan is facing 2000 MW electricity short
fall.

Short Questions
Q no 1.How electricity is produced in Pakistan?
Ans: In Pakistan electricity is produced by
a) Thermal power plants
b) Hydro power plants
c) Nuclear power plants
Q no 2.The actual percentage of hydropower produced
decreasing in Pakistan. What is your idea about it?
Ans: Pakistan has great potential to produced electricity by
hydropower plants. Unfortunately we have low storage
water capacity that’s why power producing capacity is
decreasing.
Short Questions
Q no3. What other purpose do these great dams fulfill?
Ans: Dams are source of water storage, in dry season it fulfills
the water requirements for irrigation. It is source of fishing
and flood control during rainy season.
Q no 4. How thermal power plant works?
Ans: Burning oil or gas turns water in the huge boilers into
steam. This passes under great pressure into turbines. The
turbines turn the dynamos which produce electricity.
Short Questions
Q no5. How Hydel power plant works?
Ans: When water from higher area to lower area flows and
passes under great pressure into turbines. The turbines turn
the dynamos which produce electricity.
Q no6. How Nuclear power plant works?
Ans: When water is heated in a nuclear power plant. This passes
under great pressure into turbines. The turbines turn the
dynamos which produce electricity.
