Oxygen is a colorless, odorless gas that is essential for sustaining most terrestrial life. It was discovered in 1774 and has the molecular formula O2, consisting of two bonded oxygen atoms. Oxygen is very reactive, combining with most other elements, and is used in respiration, combustion, and various industrial applications like making acids and other compounds. The oxygen cycle describes its movement between the atmosphere, biosphere, and lithosphere.
