Oregon's forests are an important natural resource that provide clean air and water, habitat for wildlife, and renewable materials. There are four main forest types in Oregon: Spruce-Hemlock, Douglas-fir, Mixed Conifers, and Ponderosa Pine. Citizens can enjoy the forests through recreation on public lands and by learning to identify the state's over 65 tree species. Around 50% of Oregon is forested, and 92% of forests from 1850 still remain today.
