Conclusions
The cost to society is significant for the EU
EURO 460 billion (2019, without UK), 3,3% of GDP
The main cost driver is work-related cancer,
followed by MSDs
Workers and their families have the highest burden of
all stakeholders
Promote positive business case for OSH at
•Enterprise level
•Society level
The differences between member states reflect mainly the different economical structure, e.g. Poland and Italy still have more agriculture than other countries.
With the current data, we cannot say it reflects the OSH performance, or OSH management of a country
We do not know the margin of error sufficiently
The figures could be adjusted by economic structure of country
However, this is the best estimation we can currently make with the avialable data.
We are working with WHO and ILO to achieve better data in future
Clear justification for external investment in OSH
The aim was to increase the understanding of policy makers
Now we already have some nice feedback
Much of our work was considered in this opinion from the European Economic and Social Committee, for the Finish Presidency
