• Researchers are often confronted with time-consuming and repetitive 
tasks when gathering and processing data 
- collecting data from websites 
- converting files from one format into another 
- analyzing, summarizing and visualizing the data obtained 
• The exponential flow of newly incoming data requires researchers to 
automate these tasks in order to speed up their daily job routines

  • 4. 4 Informatics 1: Background • Researchers are often confronted with time-consuming and repetitive tasks when gathering and processing data - collecting data from websites - converting files from one format into another - analyzing, summarizing and visualizing the data obtained • The exponential flow of newly incoming data requires researchers to automate these tasks in order to speed up their daily job routines
