1. CLASSICAL DOCTRINE
•Oldest theory in the study of organization
•It emphasizes rigid, centralized control of workers to
promote high production.
•An institution organized under the classical theory tends to
treat workers in a mechanical yet objective way, such an
institution is very efficient in accomplishing its goals.
9/28/2020 10
Major Contributors to the Classical
Organizational Theory:

 Frederick Taylor
•Administrative Management:
 Henri Fayol
9/28/2020 11
9/28/2020 12
Fayol’s14 Principles
1. Division of Work —improves efficiency through a reduction
of waste, increased output, and simplification of job training
2. Authority and Responsibility—authority: the right to give
orders and the power toextract obedience
– responsibility: the obligation to carryout assigned
duties
3. Discipline—respect for the rules that governthe
organization
9/28/2020 13
4.Unity of Command—an employee shouldreceive orders
from one superioronly
5.Unity of Direction—grouping of similar activities that are
directed to a single goal under onemanager
6.Subordination of Individual Interests to the General
Interest-interests of individuals and groupsshould not take
precedence over the interests of the organization asa whole.
7.Remuneration of Personnel—payment should befair and
satisfactory for employees and theorganization
8.Centralization—managers retain final responsibility–
subordinates maintain enough responsibility to accomplish
their tasks
9/28/2020 14
9.Scalar Chain (Line of Authority)-The chain of command from
the ultimate authority to the lowest
10.Order—people and supplies should be in the right place at the

MODELS OF ORGANIZATIONAL
BEHAVIOUR
9/28/2020 22

MODELS OF ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR
There are four major models or frameworks that
organizations operate out of:
1.Autocratic Models
2.Custodial Models
3.Supportive Models
4.Collegial Models
9/28/2020 24
•It depends upon the power. "MIGHT IS RIGHT" is
the motto of the theory. In easy words, we can say
that autocratic model that depends upon
strength,power and formal authority.The employees
have to follow their boss otherwise they would be
penalized.
9/28/2020 25
9/28/2020 26
•The custodial model mainly focuses on the
financial reward aspects of being employed by
the organization.
•According to custodial model,managers can
motivate workers and improve their
performance by providing financial incentives
such as financial bonuses and benefits for
good performance.
9/28/2020 27
9/28/2020 28
•The collegial model is based around teamwork-
everybody working as colleages (hence the
name of the model). The basis of this model is
partnership with a managerial orientation pf
teamwork.
The collegial model is quite
effective in organizations that need to find new
approaches marketing teams, research and
development
9/28/2020 29
9/28/2020 30
•The supportive model has originated from the
"PRINCIPLES OF SUPPORTIVE
RELATIONSHIPS".
The basis of this model is leadership with a
managerial orientation of support.The supportive
model depends on leadership instead of power or
money.
