Opposing School Uniforms
So, everyone is back to this argument again. Does everyone not want uniforms at our school of
WMS? Or do some people agree with me? We have the debate of school uniforms going on and we
need to end it, quickly! The people that disagree are saying, uniforms are way too expensive. They
way have a point but, I disagree because, it makes students feel ecstatic or, joyful, improves
learning, and most importantly, it makes schools safer. In my opinion, yes definitely, bring on those
khakis! In the first place, school uniforms help students feel ecstatic or joyful people might say.
Here are those reasons to back me up. Firstly, no more judging going around. Well, maybe a little bit
but, not too much. For example, Joe would feel like he fits in

Raymond Pettibon Art Analysis
Raymond Pettibon art work, Untitled (The bright flatness), on page 535 fig 25–35 shows a tiny
surfer in an enormous wave in a California landscape. The subject matter is a large wave that a
surfer is riding. The content of the artwork could be how people are a small compared to the big
world we live in. I think this piece of art was painted on with watercolor and a type of paper. These
lines in the artwork is very loose and free. These lines in the artwork reminds me of Vincent van
Gogh, The Starry Night lines in his artwork which are loose ,but the viewer can tell what the
meaning of the picture is. In the artwork Untitled (The bright flatness) colors mostly used were the
primary colors blue and red. The surfer is red and the waves of the ocean is blue. The wave color
could be a local color that the viewers know the ocean color is blue. The blue color has different
tints from dark blue to light blue. The wave in the art is three dimensional it represents the wave as
if it was being seen in an ocean. In the picture, there is a highlight where the ocean has lighter white
spots throughout the wave. Another highlight would be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The world outdoors was chosen because the whole artwork is about nature. When I examine the
artwork I feel ecstatic or happy. I feel ecstatic or happy because the surfer is consumed with nature
,and one day I hope to learn to surf and be surrounded with nature. I think the artwork purpose is to
show the California landscape and its beauty. Untitled (The bright flatness) is interesting to me
because my passion in life is the marine world. In this artwork it shows how that surfer is so small
compare to the ocean. I think that we are small compared to the outside world like the ocean. The
artwork Untitled ( The bright flatness) is a successful work of art ,and the art work is successful
because the artist was a successful by the 1990's. Surfer art was repeated art for Raymond

Human Suffering And Media Analysis
In the context of the current mediatised society, the media have become the platform where the
encounter with the other increasingly takes place, and in particular, where the public becomes aware
of circumstances of human suffering that are happening far away from their immediate locale
(Thompson, 1995). Even though the media have expanded the field of view of the spectator, the
mediated encounter with the distant sufferer is structured over an 'abysmal gap' (Bauman, 1993)
between the scene of suffering and the safe reality of the spectator sheltered behind the screen. This
paradox has raised a number of moral and ethical considerations. The question at the heart of the
debate is to what extent the 'new visibility' of the other can in fact ... Show more content on

Taking a normative standpoint, Silverstone maintains that the media should function as a 'public
space that works for the human condition and not against it' (2007: 33), a 'moral space' that
promotes the inclusion and care of the other. This cosmopolitan disposition towards the other,
especially in the context of distant suffering, can then become the foundation of transnational
solidarity and of the pursuit of justice overall (Silverstone, 2007). Silverstone advocates for the
media to adopt specific representational principles that foster this sort of cosmopolitan engagement.
In particular, he proposes the notion of 'proper distance', a theoretical principle that captures the
dialectical coexistence between the 'common humanity' of the other and his irreducible difference
(Silverstone, 2007). 'Proper distance', in other words, identifies the degree of proximity that presents
the other as 'other with humanity' (Chouliaraki and Orgad, 2011); who deserves the dignity that is to
be accorded to all humans but is also unique and implicated in specific geopolitical

What Is The Cause Of The African-American Civil Rights...
In 1957, one of the biggest events during the Civil Rights Movement occurred in Little Rock,
Arkansas. Little Rock Central High enrolled their first African–American in their formerly all white
school. It was a big step forward for the African–American community. The white citizens of Little
Rock were outraged, but the African–Americans were ecstatic. They were getting closer to equality.
Even though they were ecstatic, that wouldn't cover up the rage of the rest of the city. Their cause
was taking a big step forward, but everyone else was trying to hold them back. On September
fourth, 1957, the first day of school, 15 year old Elizabeth Eckford, was the first of the Little Rock
Nine to arrive, but she was immediately waved off school grounds

Scrooge Character Analysis
Extremely greedy was Scrooge; an example of his greediness would be when the people that were
asking for donations visited, he straight up told them he didn't believe in charity for the sake of the
government supplied help to those in need. Very impolite and rude was Scrooge for he had insulted
his nephew's marriage as it involved love. This article explicitly states him as being a cold–hearted,
uncaring, and selfish person when he gave Christmas day off to his employee, and thereupon he says
it is the only day of the year his employee can rob him.
The next anecdote that follows that, it says he wouldn't even give his clerk a fire to keep warm, so
his clerk used a candle hoping to stay warm. Based on what I read he had a pointed nose and frost
on his head and was always a grumpy elderly man. Nevertheless, he always had a reason to
discourage a human being. When the ghost of Christmas past came it showed him where he used to
live when he was younger and there were fields on both sides of the road and a gigantic gate that
lead to the place. He had seen a bunch of different scenes as children playing, kids running around,
and anon there was one lonely boy by himself, sitting in a room. It was seen as if his sister ran into
the room and was ecstatic that their father wanted him back and to return.
In the stave following that, which is stave 3 he was met by the ghost of Christmas present and it
showed him different people which were talking about him. He actually began to adore

King Midas's Greed
King Midas can be greedy and regretful. He can also be ecstatic and caring. These are his traits. I'm
going to be talking about his greed and him being ecstatic over various events. King Midas's greed
can get the best of him sometimes. One way is him wishing for everything he touched to turn to
gold. The story says, "Any gift he cared to name!" so Midas wished for what he desired most. The
text states, "Midas had a loving wife and a daughter he adored, but he was still discontented. He
wanted to be the most powerful king in the world; he wanted everyone to envy him." This also
shows his greed and his issues with not having enough of anything. These are ways King Midas
showed his greed. The king could also be very ecstatic at times. He found

Speaking in Tongues
Speaking in Tongues: Real or Fake? Glossolalia or speaking in tongues is practiced by an estimated
100 million Christians in the world today and the number engaging in this practice is growing at a
massive rate every year. That is approximately 20% of all Christians. What many people are wanting
to know is if speaking in tongues as seen in the Church today is always from God or are there other
explanations. Speaking in tongues has been practiced for many centuries, but despite its long
history, differences of opinion accompany almost all questions regarding the phenomenon: is it sent
from God? Is it of the Devil? Need it be a religious experience at all? Or is it a result of a mental

Analysis Of Amma's Healing Room By Joyce Flueckiger
In Amma's Healing Room, Joyce Flueckiger quotes Amma as saying there are only two jatis
(castes), namely men and women. Drawing on our readings and films from this semester, and using
Amma's insight as your starting point, describe the different ways gender shapes how illness and
health are understood and experienced in different contexts. How does a focus on gender in medical
anthropology and the anthropology of religion impact how we talk about health and healing? Joyce
Flueckiger's analysis of community surrounding Amma clearly indicates that in her house cultural
and religious boundaries seem to be largely irrelevant. However, two thirds of her patients are
women; Amma herself in only one of few female healers in the region (Flueckiger, ... Show more

It is important to note that by surrender to the deity's power, the dominance over the woman is
sustained, even though it is shifted from the husband onto the worshiped being, as in Obeyesekere's
analysis of personally tormented Karuvanati Maniyo (Obeyesekere, 391). The exact same model of
control is present when the woman attempts to escape the boundaries imposed by the community.
Yellamma women are "typically members of communities formerly designated as
untouchable,"what directly suggests their social exclusion (Ramberg, 502). The control the
community has over these women, however, is somewhat erased when they become the ecstatics in
Yellamma cult. The social upgrade is marked by dominant–caste devotees' obligation to touch the
feet of Yellamma women in a gesture of humility in order to receive the blessing of the devi
(Ramberg, 506). Therefore, women are able to escape the discrimination by another form of
submission, marked either by social seclusion, as in case of Karuvanati Maniyo, or by creating the
direct bond with the deity in a rite of marriage, as for Yellamma ecstatics. However, Ramberg's
further analysis on sexuality hints that the society, in order to regain control over

Why I Want To Be A Vet Essay
In the United States today there are fewer animal–lovers today than there used to be. There are a lot
of animals in the world, and there are not enough to take care of them all. Although this career may
not be awesome, easy or even ecstatic. I on the other hand however believe its challenging, being a
vet can be the sweetest job ever chosen. I know that to be a veterinarian I have to go to school for a
long time. Education for a veterinarian is very important, the first step in becoming a vet in the
united states is attending undergraduate school. Some undergraduate veterinary college require
applicants to hold only forty–five to ninety undergraduate hours? Jose Navarrete states that you have
to have a bachelor degree to be able to go on as a vet. When I realized that you need a bachelor

can be very hard, but also can be fun, you can also get paid very well even if you are in the least top
10! A veterinarian performs a wide variety of services related to animal health. What job
advancements do veterinarians get? Advancement in the veterinary can bring about many benefits to
an ordinary veterinarian. I did not realize that when you are a vet that you can do private practices. I
believe that when vets need to know their patient better they need to practice on it or understand it
better. Edward Chavez said that according to the bureau of labor statistic, 80% of all vets work from
continuing education to working. Veterinarians need to be able to understand disorders that are

Summary Of The Life Of Douglas's Life
Everyone feels alive at one point of their life. Douglas felt alive when he went fruit picking with his
brother, Tom and his father. Throughout his summer, Douglas was filled with happiness and sadness.
His best friend, John moved away and many people died like Colonel Freeleigh and Helen Loomis.
There were a plethora of happy moments too. Douglas felt alive for the first time. The grass
whispered under his body. He put his arm down, feeling the sheat of fuzz on it, and far away, below,
his toes creaking in his shoes. The wind sighed over his shelled ears. The world slipped bright over
the glassy round of his eyeballs like images sparked in a crystal sphere. Flowers were suns and fiery

For example, he put his arm down, feeling the sheat of fuzz on it, the wind sighed over his shelled

of how Douglas felt that moment tells me that Douglas felt alive. Douglas said he would carry all
the buckets of fruit that they had picked up, he jumped on his brother Tom and rolled down the hill
while holding on to Tom. Also, Douglas laid down and noticed his surroundings and he screamed

barbaric through a nameless empire. The novel features the first person narration of an unnamed
magistrate who becomes conflicted upon his duties after meeting Colonel Joll. As the antagonist of
the novel, Colonel Joll coincides with the depraved actions of the Empire, one of the most
prominent being imperialism. Later in the novel, the Magistrate also encounters an unnamed

Through this comparison, however, he subliminally reveals that he is actually aware the girl at the
inn has an interior, one that he admits he deliberately disregards. Likewise, the Magistrate is
completely aware that the barbarian girl, too, has an interior. He degrades her by saying she does
not, yet his quest to figure her out consumes him. Also, instead of blatantly stating that she has no
interior, he uses the words "as if." In this way, he suggests that there is an interior, perhaps one that
he just has not found yet. His failed attempts, then, bring him to refer to her as a "body" that has
fallen into his bed that he seems "responsible [for], or so it seems, otherwise why do I keep it?"
Unlike how he refers to the inn girl specifically as a sexual object, the barbarian girl is only sought
as an object because the Magistrate grows frustrated from her reluctance to open up to him. When
he says, "But of this one there is nothing I can say with certainty," he refers to the barbarian girl as
"this one." This shows that he thinks of women as attainable objects that he can easily control. In
contrast to the girl at the inn, the barbarian girl is impervious to his force. Because the Magistrate is
not able to assert his dominance to gain control over the barbarian girl, he grows frustrated and his
curiosity morphs into an obsession. The

The construction is more of a hybrid than that of the conventional real estate projects and therefore,

What Is The Purpose Of Hayy Ibn Yaqzan
At the close of Hayy Ibn Yaqzan, Hayy and Absal sail back to Hayy's island (p. 165). Why do they
do this? What is the significance of this episode within the larger aims of Tufayl's text?
In Ibn Tufayl's Hayy Ibn Yaqzan, he tells the story of how Hayy grew up and lived in isolation on an
island and how he came to discover the existence of God independently through philosophical
thought and observation. Tufayl then intertwines Hayy's religious narrative with Absal's, a
conventional religious follower who learns about religion through testimony. When Absal introduces
Hayy to his city, they become disillusioned with the general populace's indifference to the ecstatic
experience of encountering God and Truth and eventually decide to leave the city to attain self–
enlightenment through asceticism on the island. This essay will thus argue that while the episode

Hayy realises that he cannot teach the men in the city his religious ways because they "wanted to

necessary for Hayy's brand of religion for fleeting ecstatic encounters that Hayy could not physically
prove were possible. Therefore, Absal and Hayy become disillusioned by their apathy because their
form of religion would have become corrupted had they chosen to remain in the city. This thus
initially suggest that these two versions of religion are fundamentally incompatible and that they are

–––––– Giving up control ––––––– Q: I've read that enlightenment can only be found through
meditation and living and practicing with a realised master. Is that correct? A: I read this theory
many times when I was seeking the truth, and I feared that it might eventually stop my progress. But
I'm proof that you don't have to know a guru to achieve enlightenment. You don't even have to
meditate! All you have to do is consciously dissect yourself, and your world, without colouring what
you see. Then each time you find the truth of an object or subject, you simply release the false

Capital Punishment: for and Against
Capital Punishment: For and Against
Thesis One: In principle a case can be made on moral grounds both supporting and opposing capital
punishment. Thesis two: Concretely and in practice, compelling arguments against capital
punishment can be made on the basis of its actual administration in our society.
Two different cases can be made. One is based on justice and the nature of a moral community. This
leads to a defense of capital punishment. The second is based on love and the nature of an ideal
spiritual community. This leads to a rejection of capital punishment. A central principle of a just
society is that every person has an equal right to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." Within
that framework, an argument for capital ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All this is indefensible on moral grounds. To make sense of this, it is helpful to distinguish between
an ethical dimension of love and an ecstatic dimension. Love as an ethical ideal seeks a community
based on mutuality and reciprocity in which there is an equality of giving and receiving. Mutual
love has a justice element in which every person has an equal claim to fulfillment and an equal duty
to be responsible. Ethical love is unconditional and will reach out to others even when they lack
merit. But it will resist encroachment upon its own equal claim to fulfillment and will repel if
possible any denial of ones own right to be fully human in every respect. Against the pacifist, ethical
love would justify killing in self–defense and killing enemies in a just war when non–lethal
alternatives are unavailable. They are necessary and tragic emergency means here and now to stop
present and ongoing violence. Capital punishment is opposed since the crime has already been
committed, and isolation can protect society against future violence.
Love in the ecstatic dimension becomes superethical. In ecstasy one is delirious with impetuous joy
in the presence of the other and totally devoted to that person's happiness and well– being. In
ecstasy we do not count the cost to ourselves but are totally self–giving, heedless of our own needs.
In this mood sacrifice for the other is not an ethical act of self–denial but the superethical expression
of what we most want to do.

Character Analysis Of Scrooge
This text states that Scrooge was extremely greedy; an example of his greediness would be when the
people that were asking for donations visited, he straight up told them he didn't believe in charity for
the sake of the government supplied help to those in need. From the reading, I know that Scrooge
was impolite as when he insulted his nephew's wife and their marriage for it involved love. This
article explicitly states him as being a cold–hearted, uncaring, and selfish person when he gave
Christmas day off to his employee, and thereupon he says it is the only day of the year his employee
can rob him.

Rebecca Bloomwood Research Paper
Throughout this journal, one can see that Rebecca Bloomwood can be characterized as outgoing and
ecstatic. Initially, Rebecca Bloomwood can be characterized as outgoing for a diversified amount of
explanations. First of all, she went on a trip with her boyfriend and had to go a few days without
clothes. She has decided to make outfits on the go. Some people may believe that she is outgoing
because this is not easy to pull off. In addition, Rebecca is not afraid to take risks. She went on a trip
with Luke in a days notice. Rebecca may feel like she is being a good girlfriend by going on trips
with her boyfriend in a short notice and that's why she is so outgoing. In the text it states, "there're a
bit expensive but then, everyone knows you should never skimp on shoes, because you'll hurt your
feet" (Kinsella 16). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thirdly, when Rebecca was at the wedding she told everyone that Luke was there when he was
really not. This shows she is creative and can come up with any excuse on the spot. Some people
may think she is lying due to her stories she makes up as well as some people may believe she is
innovated. She interacts with people well and can start a conversation with any person. She also puts
herself out there like talking to people she does not know at the wedding. On the other hand,
Rebecca Bloomwood can be characterized as ecstatic for an assorted number of reasons. The first
reason is she came up with a motto to go by. In the book it states, "My new motto is buy only what
you need. I know, it sounds almost too simple but it really does work. Before each purchase, I ask
myself one question: do I need this? And only if the answer is yes do I make the purchase. Its all just
a matter of self discipline". This quote shows that she gives herself a goal in her shopping problem
to stop spend so much. People can tell she sets good goals on spending

The Ecstatic Relationship Between Buffy And Angel
Buffy and Angel The relationship between Buffy and Angel is ecstatic. The relationship itself has
power, lust, and is fully intriguing. The relationship between Buffy and Angel was doomed from the
start because, Buffy is a vampire slayer and Angel is a vampire. Clearly the two do not go well, I
mean seriously, what kind of combo is Buffy and Angel really? Could they be a couple like Romeo
and Juliet and play a tragic role in language arts, or will they end up like Peter Pan and Wendy, two
people from two total different worlds that try to come together and satay young together. I
personally believe that they have the Peter pan and Wendy relationship because they're both from
two different types of world's themselves. Being a vampire slayer, Buffy isn't really supposed to be
with a vampire at all, but instead she falls for the dashing, yet old vampire, Angel. Upon meeting
him, Buffy falls for him. Lust or Love, nobody has ever been positively clear on weather not Buffy
was in love with Angel, or if she was lusting over the gruesome Angel. ... Show more content on

Okay, so aside, you will make the rice, I usually make the rice in a rice cooker, however, you can
also make the rice the old–fashioned way, if you'd like. To make the rice you will need to do, almost,
the same ritual as for a normal one, except that in lieu of two cups of water, you will add two cups
of Coca–Cola, and add a half cube of chicken flavor bouillon. In a pan, you will add butter, a little
of oil so that the butter does not burn, a little of garlic, as well, the other half of the chicken flavor
bouillon cube, and I like to add a little of white wine. In that pan, which should be over medium
heat, add all what you've chopped, then adhere soy sauce and ketchup and mix all that for ten
minutes. Before beginning all these preparations, shred a potato and leave it soaking in water for an
hour, this is the only way the chips will fry. After draining the shred potato from the water, you may
fry them. And that's when we're ready to serve. First place the rice on the bottom of the plate,
secondly, on top of the rice, put the mixture of vegetables and the ham, and above, at the summit,
add the potato chips, but I guess you already knew the potato chips were placed on top

Doris Humphrey's Two Ecstatic Themes
The American dancer and choreographer Doris Humphrey played one of the pivotal roles in the
development of the modern dancing. Humphrey with her deep contemplation of the possibilities of
human body movement and its unique expression invented the new vocabulary of dance movement,
built on the principles of the equilibrium and graceful gravity fall and recovery technique. The
legendary dancer based her choreography on the constant search of the body equilibrium nuances
and its principles. Using these features were created extraordinary performances, which not only
showed the choreographic novelty and creative potential, but also embraced the philosophy of the
contemporary dance, exploring the themes of the relations between individual and collective in the
contemporary society. The legacy of Doris Humphrey lies in the introduction of the new
choreographic principles, extension of the modern dance as the important part of this art, and
aesthetic implementation of philosophy of modernism in the imperishable performances. Doris

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Hallucinations Essay
INTRODUCTION
Hallucinations are one of the most intriguing secrets of the mind, which are characterized by false
visions, sounds, taste, smell, and touch that can occur when one is awake; it has a sufficient sense of
reality, but one has no control over it. Hallucinations are the form of perception. There is no
particular part of the brain that is involved in hallucinating. For example, people "seeing" faces
could have a hyperactivity in fusiform face area involved in facial recognition. People with
hyperactivity in the auditory cortex might experience auditory hallucinations: hearing music, or
voices, that are not there. Hallucinations can be frightening, strange, or even amusing and divine.
There are numerous causes of hallucinations: they are usually experienced by people with
schizophrenia, Charles Bonnet syndrome, Parkinson's disease, or other psychological and mental
disorders. However, hallucinations can also be experienced by healthy individuals, who are the
subjects for studying the nature and causes of hallucinations, as they do not interact with other
symptoms like in patients with schizophrenia. Researchers use functional magnetic resonance
imaging (fMRI) scans to track the brain activities during hallucinations. The aim of this research
paper is to describe several types of hallucinations, ways of studying hallucinations, and possible
treatments.

Marriage Confinement In Kate Chopin's The Awakening
In addition to a restricted setting, Chopin expresses a theme of marriage confinement through the
portrayal of Louise's epiphany and her death that soon follows. As Mrs. Mallard is contemplating
her feelings in regards to her husband's passing, she comes to the eventual conclusion that she is
indeed saddened but, "Then she realizes she has a newfound freedom: 'There would be no one to
live for during these coming years; she would live for herself'. She is ecstatic" (Mayer 94). As a
result of Brently's death, Louise has been released by the bonds of marriage and is now free to live
as she sees fit, not by what her husband deems acceptable. It should be noted, however, that Mrs.
Mallard is not in high spirits because her husband has died; she did in fact love him at times. ...

Louise's realization of autonomy shows that while she did have a somewhat favorable marriage, she
felt trapped and that her husband's desires had been imposed upon her. Additionally, Mrs. Mallard's
death that soon follows shows how much this new freedom truly means to her and how horrified she
is that it is being taken away from her so soon. Jamil states, "At the sight of her husband she is at
once profoundly aware of her newfound freedom and the fact that it will not last. The shock that
kills her must, then, be the realization that she has lost this freedom, and with it her human
individuality" (Jamil 220). The epiphany Mrs. Mallard experienced liberated her from marriage,

Greek Mythology: Dionysus Worships
Greek mythology talks about many different types of gods and goddess, and what they stand for and
what they do. Therefore, everyone would have heard about Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Hera, Apollo and
everyone else but not many would have heard about Dionysus. Who is Dionysus, what did the
Greeks, and Romans think about him. He was known as the god of wine and fertility but were the
Greeks right for allowing the intoxicated, frenzied, ecstatic and violent behavior that takes place
during Dionysus worships. Or were the Romans right by banning the gatherings all together? There
are definitely still similar group practices in our society today that resembles ancient Dionysiac

He is the god of wine and fertility, who was best known for his followers, the Bacchus's
drunkenness and sexual endeavors. The Greeks would throw many parties in the name of Dionysus.
According to Euripides, who would write plays and stories of Dionysus, would say Dionysus
himself had many followers who are best known as Bacchus/Maenads. Euripides would write these
plays so it could be performed at Dionysus festivals. These shows would be conducted during the
April festival, which was dedicated to Dionysus; they would play three tragedies in the morning and
three comedies during the afternoon. Throughout Euripides play of Dionysus, he portrays a message
saying; be careful of strangers and be respectful of others. Whereas the same message in a different
way, 'do not judge a book by its cover', was portrayed through another play by an anonymous author
in the early years B.C. (Before Christ). This anonymous author would describe Dionysus as a
shape–shifting god, who could change his appearance into different animals and being. People of
Greece would worship Dionysus for his gift of wine that grew from his Ivy vines. They also
worshiped him as the god of fertility. At the time, the Greeks probably did not know that the parties
that were thrown in the name of worshipping Dionysus would be disrupting to others around them.
Most of the worshipping would take part outside the town where the only invited guest was allowed.
Many of these guests would be the female followers of Dionysus, the Bacchus. The Greeks had

Nanny believes in marriage and material wealth as the ideal goal for a black woman. This is due to

Representation Of Love In Romeo And Juliet
Love is the profound theme in The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare.
Shakespeare portrays love as a violent yet ecstatic, overpowering force. The force of love persuades
the thoughts and actions of the characters leading them to drastic measures. Romeo and Juliet show
great devotion to one another despite the trouble it causes. Over the course of the play, Shakespeare
displays the forcefulness and intensity of love by the abandonment of friends and family, feud, and
death. Both Romeo and Juliet aren't afraid of the consequences of abandoning their loved ones.
Romeo leaves his friends behind in order to be with Juliet. In return, Juliet would give up her name,
and put her family on the line, just to be with Romeo. Juliet expresses her thoughts aloud as she
says,"O Romeo, Romeo! wherefore art thou Romeo? Deny thy father and refuse thy name! Or, if
thou wilt not, be but sworn my love, and I'll no longer be a Capulet" (II.ii.33–36). Both lovers have

Figurative Language And Imagery InJuggler, By Richard Wilbur
The poem "Juggler" describes how the tricks the juggler acts out for the crowd amaze and intrigue
them. In the poem "Juggler" by Richard Wilbur, the author uses imagery, figurative language and
tone to describe the juggler as someone who brings happiness and fun to others.
The use of imagery, figurative language, and tone are used to describe the juggler and reveal the
speaker's own views about the world.
Throughout the poem the author uses imagery to describe the juggler's appearance and the tricks he
is accomplishing in his show. For example, Wilbur states, "it takes a sky–blue juggler with five red
balls...to shake our gravity up." (lines 6–7). The author's description of the juggler as someone who
can "shake our gravity up" (line 7) shows that the juggler is someone who has a tremendous impact
on the audience and the speaker. This is true since the crowd is full of serious people and the juggler
evokes happiness and astonishment from the audience. Moreover, by saying this the audience is able
to get an insight into the life of the speaker; we are able to see that not a lot of things happen in the
speaker's life that cause or bring up excitement and happiness. Additionally, Wilbur shows the reader
how the juggler is performing, the author says, "Oh, on his toe the table is turning, the broom's
Balancing up on his nose, and the plate whirls. On the tip of the broom! " (lines 9–21). We can see
that as the juggler is performing his great trick the crowd is excited and amazed at what he is
accomplishing through his performance when the author says, "Damn, what a show, we cry..." (line
21). Having the crowd cheer at the juggler as he completes his trick of the balancing act showed that
the juggler was able to bring happiness and amazement with the many tricks he was able to perform
for the crowd.
As the poem progresses, we can see how the juggler manipulates the five red balls he is using to
move around his body. In the poem, Wilbur uses figurative language like personification to show
how the balls move by the tricks the juggler does. For example, Wilbur says, "The balls roll around,
wheel on his wheeling hand, learning the ways of lightness, alter to spheres, grazing his finger ends,
cling to their course

the first person point of view also serves to evidence the intimacy of the subject. Finally, the use of

Joni describes her views on life from before her accident. She had always thought what most girls
and women thought about their lives: They had to have the "ideal look". As she told her story, Joni
said, "For one thing, my life values have gotten turned from wrong side down to right side up."
Even more, she wants people to know that there are so many other things like friendships,
relationships, and love that matter much more than that "ideal look". Instead of focusing on what she
wanted herself to look like, Joni devoted her life to her faith, her marriage, and to her artwork
("Joni's Life Story"). During her depression, Joni relied heavily on the Bible to give her hope during
the darkest times. Likewise, she didn't give up on her faith and just throw it out the back door
because her life suddenly got extremely difficult. On several occasions, she went to the Word of God
for the answer to her questions and troubles. Joni has not only remained devoted to God, but also
devoted to her husband, Ken. He is constantly supporting her, taking care of her, and showing his
compassion and love. One thing Ken does every day for his wife is flip her over in the middle of the
night to prevent pressure sores from forming on her body. It is often hard for Joni to display her

Opposing School Uniforms

  • 1. Opposing School Uniforms So, everyone is back to this argument again. Does everyone not want uniforms at our school of WMS? Or do some people agree with me? We have the debate of school uniforms going on and we need to end it, quickly! The people that disagree are saying, uniforms are way too expensive. They way have a point but, I disagree because, it makes students feel ecstatic or, joyful, improves learning, and most importantly, it makes schools safer. In my opinion, yes definitely, bring on those khakis! In the first place, school uniforms help students feel ecstatic or joyful people might say. Here are those reasons to back me up. Firstly, no more judging going around. Well, maybe a little bit but, not too much. For example, Joe would feel like he fits in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Raymond Pettibon Art Analysis Raymond Pettibon art work, Untitled (The bright flatness), on page 535 fig 25–35 shows a tiny surfer in an enormous wave in a California landscape. The subject matter is a large wave that a surfer is riding. The content of the artwork could be how people are a small compared to the big world we live in. I think this piece of art was painted on with watercolor and a type of paper. These lines in the artwork is very loose and free. These lines in the artwork reminds me of Vincent van Gogh, The Starry Night lines in his artwork which are loose ,but the viewer can tell what the meaning of the picture is. In the artwork Untitled (The bright flatness) colors mostly used were the primary colors blue and red. The surfer is red and the waves of the ocean is blue. The wave color could be a local color that the viewers know the ocean color is blue. The blue color has different tints from dark blue to light blue. The wave in the art is three dimensional it represents the wave as if it was being seen in an ocean. In the picture, there is a highlight where the ocean has lighter white spots throughout the wave. Another highlight would be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The world outdoors was chosen because the whole artwork is about nature. When I examine the artwork I feel ecstatic or happy. I feel ecstatic or happy because the surfer is consumed with nature ,and one day I hope to learn to surf and be surrounded with nature. I think the artwork purpose is to show the California landscape and its beauty. Untitled (The bright flatness) is interesting to me because my passion in life is the marine world. In this artwork it shows how that surfer is so small compare to the ocean. I think that we are small compared to the outside world like the ocean. The artwork Untitled ( The bright flatness) is a successful work of art ,and the art work is successful because the artist was a successful by the 1990's. Surfer art was repeated art for Raymond ... • 5. Human Suffering And Media Analysis In the context of the current mediatised society, the media have become the platform where the encounter with the other increasingly takes place, and in particular, where the public becomes aware of circumstances of human suffering that are happening far away from their immediate locale (Thompson, 1995). Even though the media have expanded the field of view of the spectator, the mediated encounter with the distant sufferer is structured over an 'abysmal gap' (Bauman, 1993) between the scene of suffering and the safe reality of the spectator sheltered behind the screen. This paradox has raised a number of moral and ethical considerations. The question at the heart of the debate is to what extent the 'new visibility' of the other can in fact ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Taking a normative standpoint, Silverstone maintains that the media should function as a 'public space that works for the human condition and not against it' (2007: 33), a 'moral space' that promotes the inclusion and care of the other. This cosmopolitan disposition towards the other, especially in the context of distant suffering, can then become the foundation of transnational solidarity and of the pursuit of justice overall (Silverstone, 2007). Silverstone advocates for the media to adopt specific representational principles that foster this sort of cosmopolitan engagement. In particular, he proposes the notion of 'proper distance', a theoretical principle that captures the dialectical coexistence between the 'common humanity' of the other and his irreducible difference (Silverstone, 2007). 'Proper distance', in other words, identifies the degree of proximity that presents the other as 'other with humanity' (Chouliaraki and Orgad, 2011); who deserves the dignity that is to be accorded to all humans but is also unique and implicated in specific geopolitical ... • 7. What Is The Cause Of The African-American Civil Rights... In 1957, one of the biggest events during the Civil Rights Movement occurred in Little Rock, Arkansas. Little Rock Central High enrolled their first African–American in their formerly all white school. It was a big step forward for the African–American community. The white citizens of Little Rock were outraged, but the African–Americans were ecstatic. They were getting closer to equality. Even though they were ecstatic, that wouldn't cover up the rage of the rest of the city. Their cause was taking a big step forward, but everyone else was trying to hold them back. On September fourth, 1957, the first day of school, 15 year old Elizabeth Eckford, was the first of the Little Rock Nine to arrive, but she was immediately waved off school grounds ... • 9. Scrooge Character Analysis Extremely greedy was Scrooge; an example of his greediness would be when the people that were asking for donations visited, he straight up told them he didn't believe in charity for the sake of the government supplied help to those in need. Very impolite and rude was Scrooge for he had insulted his nephew's marriage as it involved love. This article explicitly states him as being a cold–hearted, uncaring, and selfish person when he gave Christmas day off to his employee, and thereupon he says it is the only day of the year his employee can rob him. The next anecdote that follows that, it says he wouldn't even give his clerk a fire to keep warm, so his clerk used a candle hoping to stay warm. Based on what I read he had a pointed nose and frost on his head and was always a grumpy elderly man. Nevertheless, he always had a reason to discourage a human being. When the ghost of Christmas past came it showed him where he used to live when he was younger and there were fields on both sides of the road and a gigantic gate that lead to the place. He had seen a bunch of different scenes as children playing, kids running around, and anon there was one lonely boy by himself, sitting in a room. It was seen as if his sister ran into the room and was ecstatic that their father wanted him back and to return. In the stave following that, which is stave 3 he was met by the ghost of Christmas present and it showed him different people which were talking about him. He actually began to adore ... • 11. King Midas's Greed King Midas can be greedy and regretful. He can also be ecstatic and caring. These are his traits. I'm going to be talking about his greed and him being ecstatic over various events. King Midas's greed can get the best of him sometimes. One way is him wishing for everything he touched to turn to gold. The story says, "Any gift he cared to name!" so Midas wished for what he desired most. The text states, "Midas had a loving wife and a daughter he adored, but he was still discontented. He wanted to be the most powerful king in the world; he wanted everyone to envy him." This also shows his greed and his issues with not having enough of anything. These are ways King Midas showed his greed. The king could also be very ecstatic at times. He found ... • 13. Speaking in Tongues Speaking in Tongues: Real or Fake? Glossolalia or speaking in tongues is practiced by an estimated 100 million Christians in the world today and the number engaging in this practice is growing at a massive rate every year. That is approximately 20% of all Christians. What many people are wanting to know is if speaking in tongues as seen in the Church today is always from God or are there other explanations. Speaking in tongues has been practiced for many centuries, but despite its long history, differences of opinion accompany almost all questions regarding the phenomenon: is it sent from God? • 15. Analysis Of Amma's Healing Room By Joyce Flueckiger In Amma's Healing Room, Joyce Flueckiger quotes Amma as saying there are only two jatis (castes), namely men and women. Drawing on our readings and films from this semester, and using Amma's insight as your starting point, describe the different ways gender shapes how illness and health are understood and experienced in different contexts. How does a focus on gender in medical anthropology and the anthropology of religion impact how we talk about health and healing? Joyce Flueckiger's analysis of community surrounding Amma clearly indicates that in her house cultural and religious boundaries seem to be largely irrelevant. However, two thirds of her patients are women; Amma herself in only one of few female healers in the region (Flueckiger, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is important to note that by surrender to the deity's power, the dominance over the woman is sustained, even though it is shifted from the husband onto the worshiped being, as in Obeyesekere's analysis of personally tormented Karuvanati Maniyo (Obeyesekere, 391). The exact same model of control is present when the woman attempts to escape the boundaries imposed by the community. Yellamma women are "typically members of communities formerly designated as untouchable,"what directly suggests their social exclusion (Ramberg, 502). The control the community has over these women, however, is somewhat erased when they become the ecstatics in Yellamma cult. The social upgrade is marked by dominant–caste devotees' obligation to touch the feet of Yellamma women in a gesture of humility in order to receive the blessing of the devi (Ramberg, 506). Therefore, women are able to escape the discrimination by another form of submission, marked either by social seclusion, as in case of Karuvanati Maniyo, or by creating the direct bond with the deity in a rite of marriage, as for Yellamma ecstatics. However, Ramberg's further analysis on sexuality hints that the society, in order to regain control over ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Why I Want To Be A Vet Essay In the United States today there are fewer animal–lovers today than there used to be. There are a lot of animals in the world, and there are not enough to take care of them all. Although this career may not be awesome, easy or even ecstatic. I on the other hand however believe its challenging, being a vet can be the sweetest job ever chosen. I know that to be a veterinarian I have to go to school for a long time. Education for a veterinarian is very important, the first step in becoming a vet in the united states is attending undergraduate school. Some undergraduate veterinary college require applicants to hold only forty–five to ninety undergraduate hours? Jose Navarrete states that you have to have a bachelor degree to be able to go on as a vet. When I realized that you need a bachelor degree, I noticed that this is not going to be easy. Being a vet can be very hard, but also can be fun, you can also get paid very well even if you are in the least top 10! A veterinarian performs a wide variety of services related to animal health. What job advancements do veterinarians get? Advancement in the veterinary can bring about many benefits to an ordinary veterinarian. I did not realize that when you are a vet that you can do private practices. I believe that when vets need to know their patient better they need to practice on it or understand it better. Edward Chavez said that according to the bureau of labor statistic, 80% of all vets work from continuing education to working. When I first found out I was pregnant, I was scared because I didn't know what to expect but now I am terrified because I am actually bringing a little human into the world and I am responsible for them and their wellbeing and that is scary. A bigger part of me is ecstatic though because I get to witness the life of someone I birthed. Son, I want you to know that you are coming into a family that is financially off well. Throughout his summer, Douglas was filled with happiness and sadness. His best friend, John moved away and many people died like Colonel Freeleigh and Helen Loomis. There were a plethora of happy moments too. Douglas felt alive for the first time. The grass whispered under his body. He put his arm down, feeling the sheat of fuzz on it, and far away, below, his toes creaking in his shoes. The wind sighed over his shelled ears. Likewise, the Magistrate is completely aware that the barbarian girl, too, has an interior. He degrades her by saying she does not, yet his quest to figure her out consumes him. Also, instead of blatantly stating that she has no interior, he uses the words "as if." In this way, he suggests that there is an interior, perhaps one that he just has not found yet. His failed attempts, then, bring him to refer to her as a "body" that has fallen into his bed that he seems "responsible [for], or so it seems, otherwise why do I keep it?" Unlike how he refers to the inn girl specifically as a sexual object, the barbarian girl is only sought as an object because the Magistrate grows frustrated from her reluctance to open up to him. When he says, "But of this one there is nothing I can say with certainty," he refers to the barbarian girl as "this one." This shows that he thinks of women as attainable objects that he can easily control. In contrast to the girl at the inn, the barbarian girl is impervious to his force. What is the significance of this episode within the larger aims of Tufayl's text? In Ibn Tufayl's Hayy Ibn Yaqzan, he tells the story of how Hayy grew up and lived in isolation on an island and how he came to discover the existence of God independently through philosophical thought and observation. Tufayl then intertwines Hayy's religious narrative with Absal's, a conventional religious follower who learns about religion through testimony. When Absal introduces Hayy to his city, they become disillusioned with the general populace's indifference to the ecstatic experience of encountering God and Truth and eventually decide to leave the city to attain self– enlightenment through asceticism on the island. Thesis two: Concretely and in practice, compelling arguments against capital punishment can be made on the basis of its actual administration in our society. Two different cases can be made. One is based on justice and the nature of a moral community. This leads to a defense of capital punishment. The second is based on love and the nature of an ideal spiritual community. This leads to a rejection of capital punishment. A central principle of a just society is that every person has an equal right to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." Within that framework, an argument for capital ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All this is indefensible on moral grounds. To make sense of this, it is helpful to distinguish between an ethical dimension of love and an ecstatic dimension. Love as an ethical ideal seeks a community based on mutuality and reciprocity in which there is an equality of giving and receiving. Mutual love has a justice element in which every person has an equal claim to fulfillment and an equal duty to be responsible. Ethical love is unconditional and will reach out to others even when they lack merit. But it will resist encroachment upon its own equal claim to fulfillment and will repel if possible any denial of ones own right to be fully human in every respect. Against the pacifist, ethical love would justify killing in self–defense and killing enemies in a just war when non–lethal alternatives are unavailable. They are necessary and tragic emergency means here and now to stop present and ongoing violence. Capital punishment is opposed since the crime has already been committed, and isolation can protect society against future violence. Love in the ecstatic dimension becomes superethical. In ecstasy one is delirious with impetuous joy in the presence of the other and totally devoted to that person's happiness and well– being. In ecstasy we do not count the cost to ourselves but are totally self–giving, heedless of our own needs. In this mood sacrifice for the other is not an ethical act of self–denial but the superethical expression of what we most want to do. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Hallucinations Essay INTRODUCTION Hallucinations are one of the most intriguing secrets of the mind, which are characterized by false visions, sounds, taste, smell, and touch that can occur when one is awake; it has a sufficient sense of reality, but one has no control over it. Hallucinations are the form of perception. There is no particular part of the brain that is involved in hallucinating. For example, people "seeing" faces could have a hyperactivity in fusiform face area involved in facial recognition. People with hyperactivity in the auditory cortex might experience auditory hallucinations: hearing music, or voices, that are not there. Hallucinations can be frightening, strange, or even amusing and divine. There are numerous causes of hallucinations: they are usually experienced by people with schizophrenia, Charles Bonnet syndrome, Parkinson's disease, or other psychological and mental disorders. However, hallucinations can also be experienced by healthy individuals, who are the subjects for studying the nature and causes of hallucinations, as they do not interact with other symptoms like in patients with schizophrenia. Researchers use functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) scans to track the brain activities during hallucinations. The aim of this research paper is to describe several types of hallucinations, ways of studying hallucinations, and possible treatments. DISCUSSION 1. Emotional hallucinations Hallucinations do not have to be vivid; one of the most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Marriage Confinement In Kate Chopin's The Awakening In addition to a restricted setting, Chopin expresses a theme of marriage confinement through the portrayal of Louise's epiphany and her death that soon follows. As Mrs. Mallard is contemplating her feelings in regards to her husband's passing, she comes to the eventual conclusion that she is indeed saddened but, "Then she realizes she has a newfound freedom: 'There would be no one to live for during these coming years; she would live for herself'. She is ecstatic" (Mayer 94). As a result of Brently's death, Louise has been released by the bonds of marriage and is now free to live as she sees fit, not by what her husband deems acceptable. It should be noted, however, that Mrs. Mallard is not in high spirits because her husband has died; she did in fact love him at times. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Louise's realization of autonomy shows that while she did have a somewhat favorable marriage, she felt trapped and that her husband's desires had been imposed upon her. Additionally, Mrs. Mallard's death that soon follows shows how much this new freedom truly means to her and how horrified she is that it is being taken away from her so soon. Jamil states, "At the sight of her husband she is at once profoundly aware of her newfound freedom and the fact that it will not last. The shock that kills her must, then, be the realization that she has lost this freedom, and with it her human individuality" (Jamil 220). The epiphany Mrs. Mallard experienced liberated her from marriage, while Brently's return shackled her back in, causing her to die from her overwhelming dismay of being ... • 63. Greek Mythology: Dionysus Worships Greek mythology talks about many different types of gods and goddess, and what they stand for and what they do. Therefore, everyone would have heard about Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Hera, Apollo and everyone else but not many would have heard about Dionysus. Who is Dionysus, what did the Greeks, and Romans think about him. He was known as the god of wine and fertility but were the Greeks right for allowing the intoxicated, frenzied, ecstatic and violent behavior that takes place during Dionysus worships. Or were the Romans right by banning the gatherings all together? There are definitely still similar group practices in our society today that resembles ancient Dionysiac frenzies. He is the god of wine and fertility, who was best known for his followers, the Bacchus's drunkenness and sexual endeavors. The Greeks would throw many parties in the name of Dionysus. According to Euripides, who would write plays and stories of Dionysus, would say Dionysus himself had many followers who are best known as Bacchus/Maenads. Euripides would write these plays so it could be performed at Dionysus festivals. These shows would be conducted during the April festival, which was dedicated to Dionysus; they would play three tragedies in the morning and three comedies during the afternoon. Throughout Euripides play of Dionysus, he portrays a message saying; be careful of strangers and be respectful of others. Whereas the same message in a different way, 'do not judge a book by its cover', was portrayed through another play by an anonymous author in the early years B.C. (Before Christ). This anonymous author would describe Dionysus as a shape–shifting god, who could change his appearance into different animals and being. People of Greece would worship Dionysus for his gift of wine that grew from his Ivy vines. They also worshiped him as the god of fertility. At the time, the Greeks probably did not know that the parties that were thrown in the name of worshipping Dionysus would be disrupting to others around them. Most of the worshipping would take part outside the town where the only invited guest was allowed. Many of these guests would be the female followers of Dionysus, the Bacchus. The Greeks had allowed the intoxicated, frenzied, ecstatic and even violent behavior to occur in the name of worshipping Dionysus. • 67. Janie's Vision Under The Pear Tree Analysis Hurston's description of Janie's vision under the pear tree conveys the ideals of love and intimacy. As shown by the follow description: "She saw a dust–bearing bee sink into the sanctum of a bloom; the thousand sister–calyxes arch to meet the love embrace and the ecstatic shiver of the tree from root to tiniest branch creaming in every blossom and frothing with delight. So this was a marriage! She had been summoned to behold a revelation. Then Janie felt a pain remorseless sweet that left her limp and languid." From this description, one can see that Janie sees the pear tree and bee is very intimate and this starts representing love to her. Nanny believes in marriage and material wealth as the ideal goal for a black woman. This is due to her past as a slave and her and her daughter's unmarried status due to them being forced into illicit relationships and raped. So all through her life, nanny has seen having property, being protected by your husband, and having time for leisure as an ideal. However, this point of view has limitations as shown by when Janie complains to her nanny about her lack of love and her nanny is unable to comprehend it and instead says "You come head wid yo' mouf full uh foolishness on uh busy day. Yeah you got uh prop to lean on all yo' bawn days, and big protection, and everybody's got tuh tip the hat to you and call you Mis' Killicks, and you come worryin' me 'bout love." This lack of understanding shows that nanny's point of view is limited, because, unlike Janie, she doesn't realize there's more to life than status and wealth. The book doesn't support this viewpoint either, because it is clear that Janie is the happiest when she is living and working with tea cake in the Everglades. Her happiness proves that she didn't need the wealth or leisure lifestyle, she just needed to be loved and cared for by her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 69. Representation Of Love In Romeo And Juliet Love is the profound theme in The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. Shakespeare portrays love as a violent yet ecstatic, overpowering force. The force of love persuades the thoughts and actions of the characters leading them to drastic measures. Romeo and Juliet show great devotion to one another despite the trouble it causes. Over the course of the play, Shakespeare displays the forcefulness and intensity of love by the abandonment of friends and family, feud, and death. Both Romeo and Juliet aren't afraid of the consequences of abandoning their loved ones. Romeo leaves his friends behind in order to be with Juliet. In return, Juliet would give up her name, and put her family on the line, just to be with Romeo. Juliet expresses her thoughts aloud as she says,"O Romeo, Romeo! wherefore art thou Romeo? Deny thy father and refuse thy name! Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love, and I'll no longer be a Capulet" (II.ii.33–36). • 71. Figurative Language And Imagery InJuggler, By Richard Wilbur The poem "Juggler" describes how the tricks the juggler acts out for the crowd amaze and intrigue them. In the poem "Juggler" by Richard Wilbur, the author uses imagery, figurative language and tone to describe the juggler as someone who brings happiness and fun to others. The use of imagery, figurative language, and tone are used to describe the juggler and reveal the speaker's own views about the world. Throughout the poem the author uses imagery to describe the juggler's appearance and the tricks he is accomplishing in his show. For example, Wilbur states, "it takes a sky–blue juggler with five red balls...to shake our gravity up." (lines 6–7). The author's description of the juggler as someone who can "shake our gravity up" (line 7) shows that the juggler is someone who has a tremendous impact on the audience and the speaker. This is true since the crowd is full of serious people and the juggler evokes happiness and astonishment from the audience. Moreover, by saying this the audience is able to get an insight into the life of the speaker; we are able to see that not a lot of things happen in the speaker's life that cause or bring up excitement and happiness. Additionally, Wilbur shows the reader how the juggler is performing, the author says, "Oh, on his toe the table is turning, the broom's Balancing up on his nose, and the plate whirls. On the tip of the broom! " (lines 9–21). We can see that as the juggler is performing his great trick the crowd is excited and amazed at what he is accomplishing through his performance when the author says, "Damn, what a show, we cry..." (line 21). Having the crowd cheer at the juggler as he completes his trick of the balancing act showed that the juggler was able to bring happiness and amazement with the many tricks he was able to perform for the crowd. As the poem progresses, we can see how the juggler manipulates the five red balls he is using to move around his body. In the poem, Wilbur uses figurative language like personification to show how the balls move by the tricks the juggler does. For example, Wilbur says, "The balls roll around, wheel on his wheeling hand, learning the ways of lightness, alter to spheres, grazing his finger ends, cling to their course ... • 73. Point Of View In Carver's What The Doctor Said Due to the fact that this is a deeply personal subject, the use of first person is very fitting. From verses 16 to 23, one can see the narrator making personal reflections that the reader is privy to thanks to the first person narration. Even though they are not too explicit, one can see that this news has forever changed him, and that this is why he is so ecstatic about the dreadful news. Therefore, the first person point of view also serves to evidence the intimacy of the subject. Finally, the use of the first person point of view in Carver's "What the Doctor Said" allows the writer to express the lack of communication in modern society. Even though there is much communication in the poem, suggested from the onset by the title, it is very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 77. Joni Eareckson Quadriplegia Joni Eareckson Tada once said, "Sometimes God permits what he hates to accomplish what he loves" (Goodreads). Since she was born on October 15th, 1949, Joni had always been an athletic, horse–loving young lady ("Sweet Surrender" 39). That changed one hot summer day in 1967 when seventeen–year–old Joni went to the Chesapeake Bay with her sister and her boyfriend. While swimming, she dove into the water not knowing that it was shallow. As a result of the shallow water, Joni hit her head on a rock and broke her neck. Luckily, her sister found her and got her safely to a hospital. Due to the break in her neck, Joni has had to deal with the life–threatening condition of quadriplegia, or paralysis from the shoulders down without the use of her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Joni describes her views on life from before her accident. She had always thought what most girls and women thought about their lives: They had to have the "ideal look". As she told her story, Joni said, "For one thing, my life values have gotten turned from wrong side down to right side up." Even more, she wants people to know that there are so many other things like friendships, relationships, and love that matter much more than that "ideal look". Instead of focusing on what she wanted herself to look like, Joni devoted her life to her faith, her marriage, and to her artwork ("Joni's Life Story"). During her depression, Joni relied heavily on the Bible to give her hope during the darkest times. Likewise, she didn't give up on her faith and just throw it out the back door because her life suddenly got extremely difficult. On several occasions, she went to the Word of God for the answer to her questions and troubles. Joni has not only remained devoted to God, but also devoted to her husband, Ken. He is constantly supporting her, taking care of her, and showing his compassion and love. One thing Ken does every day for his wife is flip her over in the middle of the night to prevent pressure sores from forming on her body. It is often hard for Joni to display her affection for her husband through a simple hug or kiss. Even though she can't physically show her devotion to him, she praises and ...
