System is a collection of programs which control the overall functions of which control the overall functions of computer.
An operating system is a program that acts as an interface between the user of a computer and the computer hardware. The purpose of operating system is to provide an environment in which a user can execute programs in a efficient manner. Operating system also acts as a platform on which various application programs such as word processor and excel are executed.
An operating system (OS) is system software that manages computer hardware and software resources and provides common services for computer programs. All computer programs, excluding firmware

Pennies from Heaven: a retrospective on the use of wireless sensor networks f...M H
Wireless sensor networks are finding many applications in terrestrial sensing. It seems natural to propose their use for planetary exploration. A previous study (the Mars daisy) has put forward a scenario using thousands of millimeter scale wireless sensor nodes to undertake a complete survey of an area of a planet. This paper revisits that scenario, in the light of some of the discussions surrounding its presentation. The practicality of some of the ideas put forward is examined again, and an updated design sketched out. It is concluded that the updated design could be produced using currently available technology.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

What is the purpose of the Sabbath Law in the Torah. It is interesting to compare how the context of the law shifts from Exodus to Deuteronomy. Who gets to rest, and why?

In Odoo, the multi-company feature allows you to manage multiple companies within a single Odoo database instance. Each company can have its own configurations while still sharing common resources such as products, customers, and suppliers.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

2. - An Operating system is the most important system software.
- It is a set of programs that control and supervise the hardware of a
computer and also provide services to application software,
programmers and users.
- It manages all hardware and software, input, output and processing
activities within the computer system, the flow of information to
and from the processor, sets priorities for handling different tasks,
and so on.
Operating System
3. - Operating system is the first program that is loaded into its
memory.
- A user cannot communicate directly with the computer
hardware, so the operating system acts as an interface between
the user and the computer hardware.
- Some of the popular operating systems used in personal
computers are DOS, Windows, Unix, Linux, Solaris, etc.
Operating System
4. An operating system can be a Single User or a Multiuser
operating system.
A single user operating system allows only one user to work at
any time.
A multiuser operating system allows two or more users to use a
powerful computer at the same time.
For example Windows 7 is a single user operating system while
Linux is a multiuser operating system.
Operating System
5. 1. Application programs can run
2. Interface between the computer and the user
3. It operates, controls and executes various
applications
4. It also allows the computer to manage its own
resources such as memory, monitor, keyboard, printer
etc.
5. Controls the various system hardware and software

Functions of an Operating System
7. 1. Priority Scheduling
2. Round Robin Scheduling
This deals with management of the Central Processing Unit
(CPU).
The operating system takes care of the allotment of CPU time
to different processes.
This is called scheduling.
Two types of scheduling techniques are employed by an
operating system :
Processor Management
8. The Operating System communicates with hardware and
the attached devices and maintains a balance between
them and the CPU.
This is all the more important because the CPU
processing speed is much higher than that of I/O devices.
In order to optimize the CPU time, the operating system
employs two techniques - Buffering and Spooling.
Device Management
9. In a computer, both the CPU and the I/O devices interact
with the memory.
A program needs to be executed it is loaded onto the main
memory till the execution is complete. Thereafter that
memory space is freed and is available for other programs.
The common memory management techniques used by
the operating system are Partitioning and Virtual Memory.
Memory Management
10. The operating System manages the files, folders and directory systems on
a computer.
Any data on a computer is stored in the form of files and the operating
system keeps information about all of them using File Allocation Table
(FAT).
The FAT stores general information about files like file name, type (text
or binary), size, starting address and access mode (sequential/indexed
sequential/direct/relative).
The file manager of the operating system helps to create, edit, copy,
allocate memory to the files and also updates
