Global grid of master events for waveform cross correlation: design and testingIvan Kitov
Seismic monitoring of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty requires a uniform coverage of the earth. The global use of waveform cross correlation for monitoring purposes is hindered by the absence of master events outside the zones of seismic activity. To populate the aseismic areas we have studied two principal approaches. Around the seismically active areas, we replicate real events best representing seismicity in a given region and distribute them over a regular grid to distances ~1000 km. These replicated events are called “grand masters”. For remote aseismic areas, we calculate synthetic seismograms for a regular grid of master events and a predefined set of array stations of the International Monitoring System. Both approaches were tested and showed a resolution similar to the use of real events. Considering three types of master events, we have created a regular and uniform grid with approximately 100 km spacing between nodes as obtained from the equilibrium distribution of charged particles over the earth’s surface. We have created three versions of the grid: v0.1 with only synthetic templates, v0.2 with real masters added where possible, and v0.3 with grand masters added. The performance of v0.1 has been assessed by full processing of a few data days.

In recent years there has been an increased focus on the use of sensor networks to sense and measure
the environment. This leads to a wide variety of theoretical and practical issues on appropriate protocols for data
sensing and transfer. Recent work shows sink mobility can improve the energy efficiency in wireless sensor
networks (WSNs). However, data delivery latency often increases due to the speed limit of mobile sink. Most of
them exploit mobility to address the problem of data collection in WSNs. The WSNs with MS (mobile Sink) and
provide a comprehensive taxonomy of their architectures, based on the role of the MS. An overview of the data
collection process in such a scenario, and identify the corresponding issues and challenges. A protocol named
weighted rendezvous planning (WRP) which is a heuristic method that finds a near-optimal traveling tour that
minimizes the energy consumption of sensor nodes. Focus on the path selection problem in delay-guaranteed
sensor networks with a path-constrained mobile sink. Concentrate an efficient data collection scheme, which
simultaneously improves the total amount of data and reduces the energy consumption. The optimal path is chosen
to meet the requirement on delay as well as minimize the energy consumption of entire network. Predictable sink
mobility is exploited to improve energy efficiency of sensor networks.

This presentation shows a digital wave formulation
(DWF) of the quasi-static Partial Element Equivalent Circuit
formulation. Through the use of a pertinent change of variablesand the choice of a specific implementation of PEEC cell elementsin the Digital Wave domain, the standard PEEC model istransformed into and solved as a wave digital network. The
example reported shows the accuracy and the significant speedup up to 627X of the proposed DWF-based PEEC solver when compared to the standard Spice solution.

Stacks and Layers: Integrating P4, C, OVS and OpenStackOpen-NFP
Smart Network Interface Cards (SmartNICs) are increasingly being deployed in cloud data centers to offload inline network processing tasks from server CPUs, thereby improving system throughput while freeing up server CPU cycles for application processing. The match/action and tunnel handling semantics of SmartNIC datapaths can be either expressed directly in the P4 language, be defined by virtual switching software like Open vSwitch (implementing the semantics of a specification like OpenFlow), or by using a combination of these. This presentation compares these approaches, considering aspects like the expressiveness and performance of the resulting datapath as well how these datapath variants can be integrated into existing cloud management systems (e.g. OpenStack).

The new protocol provides less delay as compared with other protocol.

CORD aims to bring the data center economy and cloud agility to the service provider networks and is an end-to-end solution for the next generation central offices. CORD leverages three related technologies: SDN, NFV, and Cloud and builds on merchant silicon, white boxes and open-source platforms such as ONOS, OpenStack, and XOS. ON.Lab, AT&T and partners demonstrated CORD POC at ONS2015 and are now building a CORD POD for a market trial.

This webinar explains why PISA chips are inevitable, provides overview of machine architecture of such switches, presents a brief primer on the P4 language with sample programs for a variety of networks and demonstrates a powerful network diagnostics application implemented in P4.
Programmability in SDNs is confined to the network control plane. The forwarding plane is still largely dictated by fixed-function switching chips. Our goal is to change that, and to allow programmers to define how packets are to be processed all the way down to the wire.
This is made possible by a new generation of high-performance forwarding chips. At the high-end, PISA (Protocol-Independent Switch Architecture) chips promise multi-Tb/s of packet processing. At the mid- and low-end of the performance spectrum, CPUs, GPUs, FPGAs, and NPUs already offer great flexibility with performance of a few tens to hundreds of Gb/s.
In addition to programmable forwarding chips, we also need a high-level language to dictate the forwarding behavior in a target independent fashion. "P4" (www.p4.org) is such a language. In P4, the programer declares how packets are to be processed, and a compiler generates a configuration for a PISA chip, or a programmable target in general. For example, the programmer might program the switch to be a top-of-rack switch, a firewall, or a load-balancer; and might add features to run automatic diagnostics and novel congestion control algorithms.
