The Open Course Library: Bridging the Gap Between LMS and OCW
The Open Course Library project aims to design and share 81 high-enrollment college courses using open educational resources to lower costs for students. The project is building the courses using a single workflow where faculty authors create a master course and open course simultaneously within the learning management system. This integrated approach helps ensure the open courses are sustainably updated. By making quality course materials openly available, the project expects to increase access and completion rates while saving students up to $41 million annually in textbook costs. Lessons from the first phase of the project highlighted the need for collaboration tools beyond the LMS to more easily share draft course content between author teams.

U Turn Model - Blended Learning
Blended learning at Think uses the U-turn model which integrates face-to-face and online learning. In the model, students complete orientation activities online before class to prepare. During class, topics are discussed building on the preparation. After class, students review resources, provide peer feedback, and develop materials to contribute online for the next session. The model examples show students reading and quizzing before class, discussing and problem-solving during, and continuing the discussion online after class.
The Impact of SoftChalk
SoftChalk is desktop authoring software that allows for the easy creation of engaging and interactive online lessons. It was used by two instructors at Harford Community College to rebuild courses impacted by a textbook change and LMS migration issues. SoftChalk enabled the quick development of consistent content that was independent of the LMS.
