OneVillage Partners (OVP) uses a community-centered process to empower villages in Sierra Leone. This involves (1) community introductions and consensus building, (2) training volunteer leaders, (3) gathering community information, (4) presenting findings back, and (5) agreeing on priorities. For sanitation, 12 community leaders designed a solution of latrines, handwashing stations, and education committees. Community members report benefits like increased farming yields, stronger women's groups, and taking more responsibility for problems. OVP's vision is to create self-reliant communities in rural Africa.

For example, I am now farming earlier so I can plant two cycles and really increase my yields.” "Women in my community love this program, because it's helping us do things on our own. We've started a savings and loan group that we run by ourselves, and we make more money now.” "I have learned from (OVP's techniques) that we shouldn't blame God or witchcraft as the causes of our problems but ourselves.”
