years ago and the rise of the West 500 years
ago, other parts of the world carried out their
own traditions, established their own networks
of interaction, and experienced their own arcs
of change. We turn in this chapter to these
“parallel worlds” in inner Africa, the Ameri-
cas, and the Pacific Ocean because their stories

Once upon a time in africa
- 1. Once upon a time in South Africa, there was a mountain territory called the Cape Colony. In this mountain, there was a pride of lions living together, wherein there were two sub-pride of lions, namely the British pride of lions and the Afrikaner pride of lions. However, the British pride of lions were the ultimate ruler of the cape mountains territory over the Afrikaner pride of lions, wherein the British pride of lions were having its own cultural beliefs, specific way of conducting the economic activities and pollical beliefs. Some of the Afrikaner pride of lions were not happy about being led by the British pride of lions and the way British pride of lions conducted its activities in this territory. One day, the Broaderbond organisation, under the Afrikaner pride of lions, started to organise a movement for the Afrikaner pride of lions to move northward of South Africa in search of a new territory. This northward movement is generally known as the Great Trek. The members who joined the Great Trek, called themselves, the ‘Volk’ (the people). As this pride of lions started to move northward, they started to flush-out great number of prey animals such as the impalas’ zebras and so forth where those pray animals had a peaceful land to graze from without interference of invaders such as the Afrikaner pride of lions. As the Afrikaner pride of lions started to discover new territories, they started to unite themselves and build new homes, occupying large vast of lands, building Afrikaner institutions such as Voortreker monuments as a symbol of being united, practicing their own cultural beliefs over themselves and other groups of animals. They also had their own political agendas wherein they started to divide some of the institutions to be Afrikaner only places and not allow others to inter such places. The Afrikaner pride were now roaring forcefully over the South African land with force and powerful waves, to say we are the rulers of this land now.
