Dickens Attitude Toward Education in Hard Times Essay
Dickens Attitude Toward Education in Hard Times Dickens wrote Hard Times in 1854, when the
industrial revolution was active. This influenced the way the book was written. In the first two
chapters of Hard Times, Dickens attitudes to education are presented. He uses two characters,
Gradgrind and M Choakumchild to show the bad views of education and the opposition to
Dickens views. There is an immediate tension between Dickens way of thinking and Gradgrind s
and M Choakumchild s. Gradgrind and M Choakumchild call the children vessels and do not use
names but numbers. The children are allowed no independent thought. While Bitzer is how he is
supposed to be, Sissy Jupe is free spirited and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is said that Gradgrind always mentally introduces himself, which suggests that he self
conscious and wants to know who he is before he shares it with anyone else. He is also organised
and this is seen when it says with a rule and a pair of scales, and the multiplication table always
in his pocket . M Choakumchild is introduced later in the second chapter; he is one of the one
hundred and forty schoolmasters. Instead of the way he looked being described, like
Gradgrind, his intelligence was described. The subjects and skills that he studied and has
knowledge about were listed, e.g. biography , algebra and vocal music . M Choakumchild
knows a lot about these subjects because they are full of facts and imagination is not really
needed to know about them. He believes that fact is all that the children need to know and like
Gradgrind does not believe in freethinking. M Chockumchild is the one who will teach the
children how to be like in school life and social life. Gradgrind and M Choakumchild are
presented as plain people who do not like change. They have only one straight forward idea of
how the education system should be. They both see children as empty vessels and believe that
they should be seen and not heard. Dickens shows the juxtaposition of two pupils in the first two
chapters; Sissy Jupe and Bitzer. Sissy Jupe is known as girl

Quinte Mri Essay
Quinte MRI Executive Summary Brenton Cooper Medical Centre (BCMC) has outsourced its
MRI operations to Quinte MRI, a seasoned and highly recognized MRI service provider.
Unfortunately, after six weeks of operations Quinte MRI s leased MRI machine is not meeting
its expected outputs as projected and is causing concern to both Quinte MRI and BCMC which
has begun to lose revenue via referrals away from its clinic. Further, BCMC s reputation is now at
risk which could result in additional loses to the centre. The root cause of the problem appears to
lie with the scheduling of the scanning operations. Dr. Syed Haider, the owner of Quinte MRI, has
tasked his business development coordinators with finding a solution to this problem and... Show

Each scan may have different times associated with it depending on the type to be performed,
limiting the capacity of the overall process. Each step in the scanning process is dependent upon
the previous one therefore improvements need to start at the beginning. The objective here is to
improve the process flow up to the point that the actual scan will take place. I also believe that
patients are not being properly screened prior to arrival which is causing Quinte MRI losses in
revenue and time. If a patient turns up and has to be turned away, or rescheduled for misdiagnosis
there is a resulting disruption in the flow of patients which will impact the schedule and process
and ultimately the pocket and reputation of the company. Further, it appears that the technologist
is engaged in performing pre screening services and this is a highly paid employee who should
not be pre screening patients. This tasked could best be left to a lower paid trained staff. From an
operational perspective it appears that the initial implementation process of the new machine had a
learning curve. This resulted in longer lead times for processing patients during the first few weeks
until Jeff had found a rhythm. It appears that Jeff was either not properly trained or did not have
sufficient experience in the use of that model machine. Communication, and barriers to, seems to be
a fundamental problem in the whole scanning process.

A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings, By Gabriel Garcia Marquez
In A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, the author introduces a
small family whose life seems to be difficult. This story is a very good example of magical
realism. It has many qualities that show this. For example, it is a reality based situation that
shows a deeper meaning and Gabriel Marquez does a perfect job of making a real life situation
into something magical. In Gabriel Marquez s A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings it shows
readers that many appearances are often mislead. Throughout this story readers are told how dark
and gloomy the weather has been. The author uses Imagery to put a clear picture in the reader s
mind. For example, Gabriel says The world has been sad since Tuesday. (Marquez, 431) Marquez...

He is not just an angel but someone that stands out and is different than the rest if the crowd.
Readers are shown just how much people are obsessed with the unexplainable events that
happen in life. The crowd shows such careless behavior. For example, Marquez says ...they
found the whole neighborhood in front of the chicken coop having fun with the angel, without
the slightest reverence, tossing him things to eat through the openings in the wires as if he
weren t a supernatural creature but circus animal . (Marquez, 432) The villagers were throwing
stuff at him and burning him with branding iron. They showed him no respect because of the
way he looked. When readers think of an angel the think of white, beautiful attractive wings and
helpful soul. Because his is no viewed as these things he is treated like an animal. As the story
proceeds the people of the town lose interest and realize the old man is nothing like a angel. In
real life people experience this situation every day. For example, celebrities, everyone is amused
and needs are met until the song is over played or the movie is a couple of weeks old. When the
carnival arrives in town, everyone hoses interest in the angel and turns to the giant tarantula

comparing emerson and dickinson Essay
Ralph Waldo Emerson and Emily Dickinson were two of America s most intriguing poets. They
were both drawn to the transcendentalist movement which taught unison of creation, the
righteousness of humanity, and the preeminence of insight over logic and reason (Woodberry 113).
This movement also taught them to reject religious authority(Sherwood 66). By this declination of
authority, they were able to express their individuality. It is through their acceptance of this
individuality that will illustrate their ambiguities in their faith in God.
Emily Dickinson was an intricate and contradictory figure who moved from a reverent faith in God
to a deep suspicion of him in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the first stanza she simply states that just because one can t see or have never seen something
doesn t mean that it can t or doesn t exist. That being said, Dickinson then says that she has not
ever spoken with God or visited heaven in the third pair of lines (Dickinson 1273). The final set
of lines says that she is certain of the spot (Dickinson 1273). This second stanza clearly confirms
that she is confident of her place in heaven. Dickinson believes in all of these things even though
she hasn t observed any of them. (Benfey 25) This particular poem shows of her assurance of God
and heaven.
On the contrary, the poem I know That He Exists distinctly shows her uncertainty between her
belief and disbelief in God. (Dickinson 1262) The first stanza begins with a relatively strong
declaration of her faith. She knows that there is a God and that in some way, for whatever
reasons, he has hid himself from our gross eye (Dickinson 1262). In the second stanza, she
insinuates that he plays game with us just to gain our admiration for him. She starts to be
troubled by this hide and seek game in the third stanza. (Ferlazzo 32) She implies, between the
middle of the third stanza and all of the fourth that if there is no sort of deliverance after death, God
would have just played a really wicked joke on all of us.
Emerson, on the other hand, was a minister and pastor

Siddhartha, By Hermann Hesse
Siddhartha Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse was a very interesting book to read. I found it to be a
very interesting way for people, like myself, who are not Hindus, and who do not live in India to
learn about the Indian and Hindu culture and religion without being there physically to experience
it. This book is about a boy, Siddhartha, who is probably somewhere in his teenage years. He lives
with his father, who is a Brahmin, they live together in ancient India. As in many cases, there is an
expectation that Siddhartha is going to follow in his father s footsteps. If this were to take place
then Siddhartha would become a Brahmin and do the same types of things in his life that his
father has done in his. I particularly liked this book because I felt as though it was something that
many people can relate to. While a lot of people, at least not in the United States, do not have the
expectation of becoming a Brahmin, there are a lot of children and young adults who are expected
to follow what their parents have done in their life, or what if not following their exact path then
they are expected to follow the path that their parents have chosen for them. Going back to the
book, Siddhartha continues to struggle after he and his friend hang out together, and everything is
perfect, but then, all of a sudden he doesn t feel anything, he isn t happy, which concerned him
because it was something that would normally make him and other people very happy. Siddhartha,
the book, is about

Michelangelo Visual Description
I stood there standing on the fresh, cut wooden boards thinking of what the picture would look
like on the canvas. With a seemingly magnificent idea, I picked the gold handled paint brush off
of the stool, grabbed the pallet, and dipped the smooth bristles of the paintbrush into the thick
orange pigment on the palate and made my first stroke of paint on the once blank canvas. Upon
creating that first stroke, I smelt the unique, fresh paint on the canvas waiting to become a physical
picture. This is going to be a good one, I thought in my head. In my mind, I could see two
philosophers in the center of the paintingin the courtyard of an ancient Greek school with geniuses
of all ages surrounding them. I wondered what Michelangelo would... Show more content on

The Success Of The Buffalo Bills Essay
Everyone has a specific skill set that they are good at. Some people are good with numbers,
others have a gift for writing. The same is true in sports. The Buffalo Bills are very good at losing
and disappointing their fans, while the Patriots are fantastic at bending the rules and winning Super
Bowls. In baseball, each team is built around a specific group of players in order to create the best
possible chance to win the World Series. Some of the greatest players have created seemingly
unbreakable statistics. Joe DiMaggio had a hit in fifty six consecutive games. Barry Bonds hit
seven hundred and sixty two home runs over his twenty two year career. Statistics like these only
come about once in a generation. Teams are comprised of various talent. Some are like Miguel
Cabrera. Cabrera always has a batting averageover .300 with at least 25 home runs. These types of
players are considered great hitters. Other s, like Stephan Drew, get a hit less than 20% of the
time they have an at bat. Players similar to Drew s skill set have a job because they are very good
at defense and their value on defense out ways their value on offense to their specific team.
Baseball is sport rich with statistics. Almost anything one can come up with, has a statistic. In the
last ten years alone, top executives, such as Billy Bean, have constructed teams based on advanced
statistics and have been fairly successful, like the 2002 Oakland Athletics. Other teams, like the
Houston Astros,

Richard Sheirer Building 7
According to Richard Sheirer, the NYC Commissioner of Emergency Management, they were
given orders to evacuate building 7 before it collapsed. He says that he does not remember
exactly when the order came or who gave it because it had been hard to keep track of the time
with everything happening. And from this moment on, and based on the comment that Sheirer
gave, people came out with two frames that they use to interpret this event. The first one is the
frame that building 7 was actually burning because it was close by to the collapsing twin towers
and something might ve happened to sit the building on fire for more than 5 hours which caused
the building to collapse. The other point of view, or frame, is that the collapse of building 7 was a
conspiracy from the government of USA. People in favor with the second frame argue that USA
had a setting predetermined agenda for destroying building 7, which bears the City s Command
office.

Essay on The Character of Hamlet in William Shakespeare s...
The Character of Hamlet in William Shakespeare s Play
Some critics have stated that the appeal of Hamlet to the audience is his many human weaknesses,
the most notable being his indecision. His deliberations and procrastinations are particularly high
lighted when he is faced with the task of revenge. The law and Christianity, around the early
seventeenth century, were clear in condemning personal revenge as an attempt by man to arrogate
the prerogatives of God. Hamlet s contradicting feelings toward avenging his father and avoiding
breaking the law and going against Christianity were most likely felt by the Elizabethan audience
also, which would have been made up of many Christians, namely, ... Show more content on

In this scene, Hamlet discovers Claudius praying; shows a will to perform his task of revenge,
and yet he is unable to go through with it. Hamlet enters to find Claudius with his back to Hamlet.
Tension is created within the audience, as the scene is portrayed as if the king is preparing for his
execution, on his knees, praying, although he is unaware Hamlet is behind him with his sword
drawn. It is the perfect opportunity, yet Hamlet deliberates. The scene results in an anti climax, with
Shakespeare creating drama with his will he, won t he tactic with regards to Hamlet.
I believe this is a prominent example of Hamlet s inability to take action. Hamlet never receives
any indication from Claudius that he regrets the death of Hamlet s father, and by killing him,
would send him to heaven. I think it most likely that Hamlet creates his own doubts, or excuses,
as to delay with the revenge of his father. It could also be possible that Hamlet is fearful of the
consequences of his act of vengeance. In Antonio s revenge and The revenger s tragedy , the
criminal is also the ruler. As was with these, the protagonist may be merely afraid of the
consequences of treason.

Tobacco Pollution
Tobacco Everywhere
In todays lifestyle the use of tobacco is everywhere. Even though, smoking and dipping is a type of
choice made by oneself. Tobacco industries try to get many individuals to pick up that bad habit.
Although, the legal age of tobacco use is eighteen many minors have begun to use this product.
With smoking on and off campus no one cannot help but pick up that bad habit.
Tobacco use on and off campus are almost similar. There is a great number of students and some
faculty on campus who use some type of tobacco, even if it is smoking or dipping. The use of
tobacco on or off campus can be harmful to one s body and the earths ozone. A person who uses
tobacco can have many health related issues; such as cancer, strokes or even death. Not to
mention, tobacco smokers could also hand off second hand smoke to nearby nonsmokers
wherever they are, which is just as dangerous to the nonsmokers as it is to the smoker. Smoking
tobacco can also, make the air polluted on and off campus or no matter where you are. Even if
tobacco use is on or off campus cigarette buds, and dip piles could still appear.
Although, tobacco use on campus could be positive or negative. When having a non tobacco free
campus, students and faculty must worry about all types of different problems. One problem is
from smokers. Tobacco use on campus could cause the school more money by having to keep
buying the smoker stations to throw the buds in. Although, there are some smokers who are careless

Love At First Sight In Nobel By Mabel Sparknotes
Love at first sight is when two people meet eye to eye and instantly connect amongst each other.
In the beginning of the narrative Mabel s brothers are aggressively mean to her, questioning her
every move towards her next plans after the selling of their house. With every question, a cold
answer would follow. It was clear that Mabel was misunderstood from her relatives and now
more than ever she felt alone. The doctor was unaware of Mabel s existence until their first
encounter in her diner kitchen. Author Lawrence s way of writing helped readers use their
context clues to symbolize their eye contact was meaningful. Unlike most greetings, theirs were
long regardless of the people that were in the room. Which in most cases means so much more.
Given this was the first encounter of the two characters, I would assume something very magical
would occur later on in the story because of their strong first interaction. As previously stated,
Mabel s parents are no longer alive. As the story progresses Mabel decided to visit her mothers
grave. Coincidently, her mother s grave is next to the doctor s office building. The doctor finds his

Short Summary Of The Sniper
In The Sniper , a cold hearted depiction of war, Liam O Flaherty follows a young Republican
sniper through a typical day amongst the callous bloodshed. The story opens with the Sniper,
bathed in soft light emanating from the moon, drawing smoke from his cigarette. For a while there
is the gentle illusion of normality, however, before long, the silence of peace is shattered by an
appearance of an armored car and enemy informant. Driven by his need to survive, the Sniper
shoots them down, without even once wondering about their intentions. As he eliminates the
threat, another enemy sniper catches him in the arm with a carefully aimed bullet, forcing him to
retreat behind the roof. Reminded constantly of the death waiting for him by the corpses of the
people he killed, the Sniper grinds his teeth and overcomes his pain, formulating a plan that
would allow him to survive. Before the sun rises, the Sniper tricks the enemy Sniper into
believing him dead. When the enemy sniper stands up in fabricated victory, the Sniper takes him
down, ignoring his bleeding arm and screaming conscience. Before he can decide to report back
to his commander, the Sniper is hit with a strangely compelling need to find out who the enemy
Sniper was. Risking his life and dodging numerous bullets from a machine gun, he gets off the roof
and reaches the body on the ground. When he flips it over, the face that stares back at him is the
lifeless mask of none other than his brother. On this

Follow Classroom Procedures
Kindergarten classrooms will run efficiently when students follow procedures and rules. When the
students choose to follow them they will get rewarded or pay the consequence. When all of the
students are following the rules there will be less interruptions. Procedures, rules, and a reward

undesirable behaviors in order to follow their caregivers requests (Kopp, 1982, p. 208).

Research Paper On State Lotteries
State Lotteries: Take a Second Look From the time the Europeans first landed on the Atlantic
shore, lotteries have been a part of the American society. According to Will Spink, most states
are currently operating a state lottery despite its bleak history in the U.S. (Spink 1). Since 1983,
North Carolina has introduced lottery bills in the legislature every year (NC Christian 15). North
Carolina Governor, Mike Easley, favors a lottery for increasing revenues for education (Analysis

financial difficulties for citizens, and this should encourage states to look at other means of

Governor Easley proposes that lottery taxes will supplement and not replace other taxes that
support education (Analysis 2). Other states have had the exact opposite to occur. In California,
ninety percent of school superintendents believe it had an adverse effect on their getting other
funds for their schools. In 1987, a study was conducted in Illinois that gave validity to what many
lottery opponents claim happens in many cases: While the lottery money to education increases,
the total education funding in the state budget increases at a lower rate than it has in previous
years (Spink 3). Money magazine s study proved that states with lotteries designate a lower
percentage of their total budget to education than do states without a lottery. However, proponents
could point to the fact that lottery states on an average spend more on education per student, than
non lottery states (NC Insider 2). Research has difficulty proving or disproving social
consequences of lotteries. A survey by Gam Anon, the family counterpart of Gamblers
Anonymous, did reveal that ten percent of its members abused their children, and fifty percent of
the spouses reported physical and verbal abuse. Crimes like burglary, larceny, and auto theft
increase by an average of three percent in states that implement a state lottery. Sixty percent of
heavy gamblers admit to some sort of criminal activity within the past year . (Economic Facts 4).

My Reading To Remember
Reading To Remember When I was a little kid growing up, my parents would read me books
every night sometimes multiple books at a time. Books that were read to me and the books I
read when I was in elementary school were and still are my favorite books. Reading is
something that I enjoy if the book covers the right topic, books like the Percy Jackson series,
Magic Treehouse, the Stink series and Bananas In Pyjamas. These stories remind me of a time
when I had no responsibilities and no stress. I wasn t the only one in my family who enjoyed
children s books. My parents also found joy in reading me books. A children s story that can
only be enjoyed by children is not a good children s story in the slightest. (Lewis) C.S. Lewis is a
famous novelist who wrote numerous books over his lifetime. My favorite childhood memories
revolve around the stories that I was told. All throughout elementary school teachers would
constantly nonstop preach about how reading was important and how reading was supposed to
improve creativity and memory. Teachers would take time out of the school day to read to us,
while reading the bookto the class, often the teacher would stop reading and ask us questions about
what we have read so far. On top of books being read to the class, we would have to read books on
our own. Reading didn t stop there multiple book projects each and every year on top of all the

cursing, and inappropriate jokes. The show Full House is your typical traditional familyoriented
television show. The plot of the show comprised a husband and his three kids, D.J, Stephanie,
and Michelle.Their mother got killed in a tragic car accident leaving the husband,Danny
Tanner, his best friend Joey and brother in law Jesse to help raise the kids. Even though they
don t have a mother figure to help raise the family, they all work together to live a normal, happy,
healthy life. On the contrast the show Bob s Burgers is a cartoon that also shares a family
orientation, but shows it in a more modern way. The twenty first century show starts off with a
family of five, A mother named Linda, Bob (The husband) and their three kids, Louise, Tina and
Gene. The family owns a restaurant called Bobs Burgers (which they also live in) and goes about
their everyday lives. Each episodeintroduces a problem a family member goes through, whether its
at school, the restaurant, or elsewhere. In the end they always resolve it and this teaches a valuable
lesson through family development, comic relief, and learned morals. The first show, Full house

Violence In Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart
Every author writes a book to depict a lesson or meaning. Things Fall Apart talked about the
various things that cease to exist. There were two main things that fell apart in this book: the
main character Okonkwo and religion. The meaning of this book was to show that life is full of
conflicts and if they are not confronted or solved correctly, something or someone will collapse.
Several scenes of violence were found in this book. These scenes existed to contribute to the
overall meaning of the complete work. One scene of violence made a significant impact to
Okonkwo. It was the day of Ezedu s funeral and guns were fired in the air. At this time, Okonkwo s
gun exploded and a piece of iron pierced through a boy s heart. The boy was one of Ezedu s... Show

This scene contributed to the meaning of the novel by showing how just one act will change
everything. Okonkwo fought to kill the missionaries and defended his clan and their beliefs.
However, he fell into disappointment when he found that no one backed him. Everyone was in
an uproar instead of preparing to fight. Okonkwo saw that Umuofia had changed and felt sorrow.
He found that the men who were once strong and brave were now weak and scared. The clan was
hopeless. The messengers who ran away will possibly come back with more men and Umuofia
will end up like Abame. Finding it pointless to stay in a place in which there was femininity in men
and in which his beliefs were abandoned, Okonkwo killed himself. This scene portrayed not only
the destruction of Okonkwo, but the destruction of the entire clan. The missionaries brought change
and successfully converted some Ibo to Christianity. Eventually, everyone will be Christian because
no one was brave enough to confront the missionaries and defend their religion. Change and the
clash of cultures caused things to fall

Leonardo Da Vinci Research Papers
Leonardo Da Vinci is one of my favorite artist out of all the artist in the world and that s why I m

Verrocchio was a well known artist at the time. Verrocchio was trained as a goldsmith and went

One of Leonardo s famous painting is the Mona Lisa and it was published 1503. The Painting is

Blanche Dubois Character Analysis
In the intense play, A Streetcar Named Desire, written by Tennessee Williams, the character of
Blanche DuBois is in a constant downward spiral. She is displayed as a sexual symbol with a
serious drinking problem. Her attempt to cover these things up with her kind and frail personality
does not sit well with some of the characters. Characters such as Stanley Kowalskiand Harold
(Mitch) Mitchell learn to see right through Blanche. The downfall of her character is the epitome of
the symbolization in the play. The play symbolizes the mistreatment of men towards women and the
shielding of reality. Blanche s horrid past and spiraling present transform her into a misunderstood,
broken character. Blanche DuBoisis a schoolteacher in Laurel, Mississippi, but is given a leave of
absence due to her nerves. She visits her sister, Stella Kowalski, in New Orleans, Louisiana. When
she arrives to New Orleans, she is told to take a streetcar named Desire, transfer to one called
Cemeteries, and ride six blocks and get off at Elysian Fields; Elysian Fields is where her sister
lives. Blanche has a dainty and frail disposition, but is portrayed as an unstable, peculiar woman.
Blanche: I want to be near you, got to be with somebody, I can t be alone! Because as you must
have noticed I m not very well... (Williams 23). Blanche insinuates to Stella that she is not doing
so well and is currently facing many obstacles in her problematic life. Her troubled past and the

Flahtahl s Propaganda Triumph Of The Will ( 1938 )
Since the advent of documentary film with Robert Flaherty s Nanook of the North (1922), those
with power have sought to use it as a tool in their arsenal to reach people. Advances in
communications technology in the early twentieth century allowed it to be used as a one way
message delivery system to the masses, however the ways in which this has been implemented have
varied hugely based on context and political viewpoint. Through consideration of Leni Riefenstahl s
propaganda Triumph of the Will (1935), and Lorentz s advocacy documentary The River (1938) this
essay will analyse the concepts of persuasion, education and propaganda in documentary film,
discussing the similarities and differences between these areas. It is worth first briefly defining the
ideas that this essay will cover, education is at its purest form the provision of information and
systematic instruction while persuasion is the attempt to induce change through reasoning.
Propaganda, conversely, is non objective/biased information used to promote a point of view.
Although on paper the distinctions seem clear, in practical use it quickly becomes apparent how
much these lines can blur. If persuasion is a technique that attempts to change viewpoints, how far
does it really sit from this idea of propaganda? Both films that will be discussed were produced in
the nineteen thirties, a turbulent political landscape where the great depression and high
unemployment rates in Europe had put democratic capitalism under

Route 66 Analysis
Erttttt. As I slammed on brakes in theupcoming chaotic traffic. Maybe I should get off on the
next exit and take the back roads. As in back roads I mean good ole Route 66. Exit up ahead. Ah
sweet ole Route 66. As many people think that the Interstate is an easy quick way to get from
where they was to where they need to be at; others may think it is terrible and drains their time
so they take other highways. If you are like some out of many you want something calm and
collective; not busy and chaotic. Many people think that they should go 80 to 90 miles per hour
when they should only be going 70 miles per hour or lower which to me seems like it would
reduce many of the outraging wrecks we have today. There has been an astounding 50,765 wrecks
and counting that has happened on the interstate many may have lost their lives, many may have
been in critical condition, and few have survived in all.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

cars on the route, Galena s haunted Bordello, Marsh rainbow arch bridge, Baxter Springs, and so
many other astonishing attractions. It is not always about what you see when you are driving it
about making memories with the people that you are with while you are driving. For example

Conformity In 12 Angry Men
Can a minority influence the beliefs within a group setting? The 1957 movie, 12 Angry Men is a
great example of the minority influence process, the one change the beliefs of the other eleven. 12
Angry Men is a jury group that decides if the defendant is guilty or not guilty of murder and sending
the defendant to the Electric Chair. During deliberation, prejudice, persuasion, conformity and
cognitive heuristics, all played a role in the interaction of the group and the final decision to equate
the defendant.
Persuasion
Henry Fonda, plays the role of juror number eight, who from the beginning keeps his conviction that
the defendant is not guilty due to reasonable doubt. Fonda uses arguments and reasoning to
convince the other jurors to deliver a not guilty verdict. For each witness testimony, Fonda was
able to raise doubt, like the L train causing enough noise that the elderly neighbor would be
unable to hear the father and son argue. As more jurors, changed their verdict to not guilty, they
took on the role as persuader, for example, juror number nine placed doubt on the female
neighbor to be able to see the murder because of it was doubtful she was wearing her glasses. One
by one, Fonda was able to convince the others to admit there was reasonable doubt.
Conformity
Conformity or socially acceptable behavior (Kassin, Fein, Markus, 2014), was also evident in the
movie. Juror number seven continuously chose the majority s verdict, not going against the larger
group, when more

Raymond Carver Narrator
Anyone who has read Raymond Carvers Cathedral knows that the narrator is not looking forward
or welcoming his guest into his home. Also, he is not being very sympathetic of what this man s
condition that he lives with is, being blind. The Narrator must learn to be more sympathetic in his
life, and should learn from this experience, with this older bling man. Raymond Carveruses his
narrator non sympathetic ways effectively throughout the story, developing of the narrator from the
beginning to the end, and how the narrator would not be as effective if he showed sympathy
throughout the short story. The narrator fails to show sympathy throughout the story to show that
the man not judge him for what he is, to show the Its really something moment, and to show the
problems of the couple underneath what is happening. First, Carver uses his non sympathetic
narrator effectively throughout the short story, by showing that the blind man can see more than
him sometimes. The narrator says from the beginning that he does not like how this blind man is
coming to visit him and his wife. He knows that that the blind man and his wife have had known
each other longer than the two of them have known each other. Instead of welcoming his wife s
old friend, he categorizes her friend with her past. Showing the narrator is jealous and pity, which
then makes you wonder if Robert, the blind man, was involved in her suicide attempt or her

Women And The Role Of Women In The 1920 s
Women of The 1920s
During the first World War I women were left at home to try and figure out how they were going
to care for their families. Their husband, father, and brothers were sent off to war. Many
companies around the United States were left with production needs and little to no employees to
do the job. In a time period, where women are expected to be confident and independent, they had
to also realize they had little to no power in society. They had societal rules that they must stay at
home to cook, clean, and care for the children. With the men who were prominent in their lives
coming and going from war. These factors caused the birth of a new era. This is the era where
women were emerging. Women were changing by being more independent sexually and expressing
their emotions through music, poetry, and movies.
One important theme of the women of the 1920 s that connects various aspects of the women is
their sexuality. The women before those who became empowered in the 1920 s would never open
up about their sexuality. The women prior to the 1920 s had an image of modesty and were
viewed to be married to only one man. In 1920, the women began to express their sexual desires
freely. Singers like Bessie Smith could paint a picture and bring anything to life with just her
voice. One example by Bessie Smith I m Wild About That Thing . In this song, Bessie Smith
sings of how she loves her man and how happy he makes her. In her lyrics she says Do it easy

Compare And Contrast Virginia And Massachusetts Bay Colonies
English colonization of the New World began in the late 16th century with several unsuccessful
attempts. However, this changed with the settlement of Jamestown, and later with the settlement of
Massachusetts Bay. Despite these settlements having similarities, they were fundamentally different
in most respects. From the areas where they settled, the reasoning behind each settlement, their
development, and the various problems and conflicts that arose in each. A uniqueness can be seen
between Virginiaand MassachusettsBay settlements beginning with the history of each.
The history of these two settlements begins in the early 17th century when King James I issued a
charter between two rival groups of merchants, the London Company (later renamed the Virginia
Company) whose interests were in colonizing Virginia, and the Plymouth Company who had
interests further north (Brinkley, 23). The charter gave the London Company exclusive rights to
colonize the south, and the Plymouth Company received the same rights for the north (Brinkley, 23
24). It is through the efforts of these companies that the first permanent English colonies would be
established (Brinkley, 24).
Once the charter had been issued the London Company quickly began to set up an expedition for
the colonization of Virginia, and on December 6, 1606, 144 men aboard three ships: the Godspeed,
the Discovery, and the Susan Constant set sail for the New World (Brinkley, 26). In the spring of
1607, the 105 settlers that

Playoff opponents are like ice cream flavors. They re all good, each with its own distinctive
strength.
The New York Giants have four potential opponents in the wild card round of the postseason: the
Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, Atlanta Falcons and Seattle Seahawks. All are dangerous. All are
winning teams deserving of their playoff position.
Eli Manning will take whatever playoff matchup the Giants get, but he d be wise to root for
something other than a visit to Seattle. Al Bello/Getty Images
The Giants already have faced two, beating the Lions at MetLife Stadium late in the season and
losing to the Packers at Lambeau Field early in the season. That factors into the equation of best
and worst matchups for Big Blue in the opening round of the postseason. So should the current form
of each team and its health.
Locked in as the No. 5 seed, the Giants are going to play the division winner with the worst record
in the NFC on the road. That doesn t necessarily mean they will play the worst division winner or
the opponent that gives them the best chance to win. Matchups are everything this time of year.
Some stadiums are more hostile environments than others. Seattle falls into that category.
Here is how I rank the potential opponents, in terms of which team the Giants should most want to
face in their first

Cold War Era Movie Assignment
Cold War Era Movie Assignment
The movie/TV clips that we watched in class were all made between the years 1954 and 1964.
World War II and The Cold War between The Soviet Union and the United States became the
subject of many TV shows and movies of the time period. The paranoia and fear of communism
and nuclear war was very real in the 1950 s/1960 s and it shaped the cultures of both the United
States and the Soviet Union.
You will be asked questions not only about the clips you will view but how they relate to World
War II and The Cold War. You must use the historical events and facts that we have covered in
class in your answers.
Guiding Question:
What do you think the attitude of Americans was towards Germans and Russians during this period
of time? How did movies and television affect their opinions?
Gojira (Godzilla) 1954 and Them! (1954)
1)What is the Japanese film Gojira trying to warn the world about? What happened in 1945 that
influenced this film?
The Japanese film Gojira was made in the early 1950 s, shortly after WW2 and the 2 atomic
bombs dropped on Japan. The nuclear bombs American forces dropped on Hiroshima and
Nagasaki left a sore spot in Japanese society. It reminded and allowed Japanese citizens to relive
the horrible horrors that occurred after the blast.
2)What do you think the Japanese opinion of nuclear war was in the aftermath of World War II?
Why?

Ronald Reagan Bibliography Essay
Ronald Reagan
Ronald Reagan came from humble beginnings. He was born on February 6, 1911 in the town of
Tampico, Illinois. His parents were Jack and Nelle. Jack Reagan was an unsuccessful salesman
who was also known as an alcoholic. His mother, Nelle Wilson Reagon was a devout farmwoman
who raised Ronald and his older brother, Neil, in the Disciples of Christ Church despite their
father s Catholicism. The family moved frequently, sometimes in response to new job
opportunities, sometimes after Jack had been fired because of his drinking. In 1920 they settled in
Dixon, Illinois, where Jack became the proprietor and part owner of a shoe store (Reeves 2).

Newsreels and magazine photos depicted Reagan coming home for leaves and visits. Reagan
later sometimes seemed actually to have believed the ruse. Even decades later, he liked to talk
about coming back from the war, like other veterans, eager to take up family life again (a life that
in his case had hardly been interrupted) (D Souza 11).
Reagan s postwar acting career never regained the momentum it had enjoyed in the early 1940s.
He had some occasional successes (among them The Hasty Heart in 1949), but he found himself
working more often now in minor roles or minor films. Jane Wyman s career, in the meantime, was
flourishing, and her absorption with it contributed to what were already growing tensions within the
marriage. The couple divorced in 1948 (Reagan 4).
As his career and his marriage languished, Reagan had begun to become active in politics. His first
vehicle was the Screen Actors Guild (SAG), the film actors union. Reagan had been active in SAG
since his first months in Hollywood, and his involvement grew with his marriage to Wyman, who
was also an important figure in the organization. In 1946, he chaired a union strike committee and
demonstrated an energy and a toughness that his SAG

Sustainable Architecture Advantages And Disadvantages
With global warming, the world s attention on building energy efficiency is increasing. There are a
large proportion of architects recognised that the main factor of global warming is the use of
building energy generated by CO2. Sustainable architecture is involving methods that do not
completely use up or destroy natural resources. There are several major elements need to be
considered, such as technology, economy and Health . However, architects pay their greatest
attention to environment. Because environment is the fundamental factor of others and influence
humans life . Sustainable architectures reduce the consumption of resources in order to save energy
for nature and also green buildings produce less pollution in order to save environment. Evidence
suggests that sustainable architectures are advantageous for environment.Whereas, other
individuals states that sustainable buildings get more drawbacks. This essay argues that the
advantages of sustainable architecturefar outweigh the disadvantages in relation to technology ,
energy saving and economy.
With the development of technology, the invention and evolution of different materials can bring
out more possibility of sustainable architecture. Different materials can be used to describe
incredible design which looks The sustainable materials tend to reduce energy consumption. For

Dropbox And The Dropbox Business
Dropbox is a downloadable application that allows users to securely sync, share and store
multiple files such as photos, videos, documents and etc. from personal computers (PC) over the
internet, as the article mentions. The Dropbox business was founded in April 2007 and it was in
September of 2008 when it was launched to the public. Drew Houston is the co founder and
CEO of Dropbox. An interesting fact about Houston is that he was five years old when he was
first presented to computer programming and startups. At this age, he was already writing
software as well as testing an online game when he was 14 years old. He also started a lucrative
online SAT prep business in college. Houston discovered the need for creating Dropbox in
December 2006 while he waited for a bus at Boston s South Station. Houston had planned to work
on a programming job for Bit9 while on his way to Manhattan, but before proceeding to do so he
realized that he left his USB flash drivein his apartment. As frustrated as he was he began to plot a
solution to this pain of his. He designed a service to securely sync and share files between personal
computers and smartphones which resulted in the establishment of the Dropbox.
Houston created Dropbox so that it would make it easier for customers and small medium sized
businesses to keep track of their files all in one place. Dropbox is the perfect solution for all

Mass Shootings
Over this past decade, an increase in mass shootings has raised a concern in the control of firearms.
With the ever growing number of shootings, the death rate due to firearms has intensified. Thus, the
controversy over gun control has caused society to push the government to re evaluate the
regulation of firearms in the United States. Hence, in order to keep and provide a safe environment
for American citizens without fear of death by firearm, the government should regulate firearms.
According to the Second Amendment, it states, A well regulated militia, being necessary to the
security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed (Lund
and Winkler). With that said, most civilians do not possess firearms... Show more content on

The comparison between the two states show how drastically gun regulations can influence the
death rate by firearms. In the state of Wyoming, firearm sellers are not required to check gun
owner backgrounds. Therefore, gun owners are not obligated to register their guns or have a gun
license. That is to say, there is little to no gun regulations in Wyoming giving it the number one spot
in the highest gun related deaths. On the other hand, Massachusetts has the laws that regulate the
possession, sale, and use of firearms and ammunition. Once the applicant has sent in their
application for a guns permit or license, the applicant must wait 40 days in which the authorities
may deny or grant them permission to carry a firearm ( Concealed Weapons ). As stated by the
Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence, Massachusetts is a may issue state for the issuance of
licenses to carry firearms, meaning that the local licensing authority has discretion in determining
whether or not to issue either license type to an applicant ( Concealed Weapons ). In this case,
Massachusetts is significantly stricter than Wyoming and any other state in the country. Thus, with
its strict gun laws, it has the lowest gun related death rate and is ranked as fifty on the charts of gun
related deaths (Hendry 2015). This further justifies

Fiscal policy involves the use of government spending, taxation and borrowing to affect the level

pattern of spending on goods and services. It is also a means by which a redistribution of income

National insurance contributions are the closest example in the UK of a proportional tax, although
low income earners do not pay NICs below an income threshold. A regressive tax is the rate of tax
falls as incomes rise I.e. the average rate of tax is lower for people of higher incomes. In the UK,
regressive taxes come from excise duties of items of spending such as cigarettes and alcohol.
Indirect taxes forma larger percentage of the disposable income of those who earn less, even
though they may also spend less.
How the current government is using fiscal policy.
The current collation government are using fiscal policy to attempt to cut down borrowing and the
budget deficit from previous borrowing of the recent labour governments to be in power. The
Coalition Government wants to halve the budget deficit over a five year period, they have launched
a programme of fiscal austerity amounting to ВЈ126 billion a year of combined spending cuts and
tax rises. Most of the fiscal austerity is coming through planned reductions in the real level of
government spending. 80% will come from spending reductions, 20% is forecast to come from
higher taxes. The fiscal squeeze is highly controversial and has led to an impassioned debate
among economists about the best way to control a budget deficit as an economy struggles to lift
itself out of recession and sustain a recovery. Keynesian economists argue that deficit reduction
policies risk driving the economy into a second recession

feedback. They create complex puzzles and new ways to kill or defeat your opponent to keep you
entertained and gradually increase the difficulty as you progress through the game. They also have

Video game design is not just playing video games, a lot of stress and hard work is involved. The
life of a videogame designer is not all glamorous. Expect to work long hours, especially towards
the end of the project. The average hours a week are around 40 hours and $28 an hour. In 1999,
the average videogame designer made $35,000 $75,000 a year. The future of videogame design
is looking great. The interest of video games is raising, and a lot bolder audience plays them.
Video games have outgrown many other industries in a short period of time, and have already
become a multi billion dollar industry and rising. I researched a video game designer because I
wanted to know about their role in creating a video game, what they do daily, and their income.
A video game designer needs good communicating skills in order to improve the content of the
game. Also, it is not as easy job as it seems a lot of stress and hard work is involved. Finally, the
interest of video games is rising as video games appeal to a wider audience.

Xia And Shang Dynasties Research Paper
Ancient Chinese civilization can be marked back to the Xia and Shang dynasties. Existing before
were agricultural communities; people fished, raised livestock, hunted, and gathered. They grew
millet (malted into beer) where water and field were available. They knitted, spun threads into cloth,
created things, art. They lived in pit homes, forming villages. Villages grew, and the North China
Plain grew with it into an extensive area with a solid population, possibly due to associative efforts
for flood management and irrigation. These early agricultural communities constituted the basis for
oncoming dynasties. Food production above those of subsistence farming encouraged plunder and
conquest. Comparable to West Asia, kings of conquest emerged... Show more content on

The trustees possessed a militia, earned priesthood callings, received gifts and titles (lord/gong),

eldest male to the youngest, the first wife to the concubines. The eldest heir became the new head,
and any concubines would rank below the wife. As in many early civilizations, gender and social
equality were insubstantial, leading to, and as a result of, patriarchal and hierarchy systems. These

  • 2. Dickens Attitude Toward Education in Hard Times Essay Dickens Attitude Toward Education in Hard Times Dickens wrote Hard Times in 1854, when the industrial revolution was active. This influenced the way the book was written. In the first two chapters of Hard Times, Dickens attitudes to education are presented. He uses two characters, Gradgrind and M Choakumchild to show the bad views of education and the opposition to Dickens views. There is an immediate tension between Dickens way of thinking and Gradgrind s and M Choakumchild s. Gradgrind and M Choakumchild call the children vessels and do not use names but numbers. The children are allowed no independent thought. While Bitzer is how he is supposed to be, Sissy Jupe is free spirited and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is said that Gradgrind always mentally introduces himself, which suggests that he self conscious and wants to know who he is before he shares it with anyone else. He is also organised and this is seen when it says with a rule and a pair of scales, and the multiplication table always in his pocket . M Choakumchild is introduced later in the second chapter; he is one of the one hundred and forty schoolmasters. Instead of the way he looked being described, like Gradgrind, his intelligence was described. The subjects and skills that he studied and has knowledge about were listed, e.g. biography , algebra and vocal music . M Choakumchild knows a lot about these subjects because they are full of facts and imagination is not really needed to know about them. He believes that fact is all that the children need to know and like Gradgrind does not believe in freethinking. M Chockumchild is the one who will teach the children how to be like in school life and social life. Gradgrind and M Choakumchild are presented as plain people who do not like change. They have only one straight forward idea of how the education system should be. They both see children as empty vessels and believe that they should be seen and not heard. Dickens shows the juxtaposition of two pupils in the first two chapters; Sissy Jupe and Bitzer. Sissy Jupe is known as girl ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Quinte Mri Essay Quinte MRI Executive Summary Brenton Cooper Medical Centre (BCMC) has outsourced its MRI operations to Quinte MRI, a seasoned and highly recognized MRI service provider. Unfortunately, after six weeks of operations Quinte MRI s leased MRI machine is not meeting its expected outputs as projected and is causing concern to both Quinte MRI and BCMC which has begun to lose revenue via referrals away from its clinic. Further, BCMC s reputation is now at risk which could result in additional loses to the centre. The root cause of the problem appears to lie with the scheduling of the scanning operations. Dr. Syed Haider, the owner of Quinte MRI, has tasked his business development coordinators with finding a solution to this problem and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each scan may have different times associated with it depending on the type to be performed, limiting the capacity of the overall process. Each step in the scanning process is dependent upon the previous one therefore improvements need to start at the beginning. The objective here is to improve the process flow up to the point that the actual scan will take place. I also believe that patients are not being properly screened prior to arrival which is causing Quinte MRI losses in revenue and time. If a patient turns up and has to be turned away, or rescheduled for misdiagnosis there is a resulting disruption in the flow of patients which will impact the schedule and process and ultimately the pocket and reputation of the company. Further, it appears that the technologist is engaged in performing pre screening services and this is a highly paid employee who should not be pre screening patients. This tasked could best be left to a lower paid trained staff. From an operational perspective it appears that the initial implementation process of the new machine had a learning curve. This resulted in longer lead times for processing patients during the first few weeks until Jeff had found a rhythm. It appears that Jeff was either not properly trained or did not have sufficient experience in the use of that model machine. Communication, and barriers to, seems to be a fundamental problem in the whole scanning process. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings, By Gabriel Garcia Marquez In A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, the author introduces a small family whose life seems to be difficult. This story is a very good example of magical realism. It has many qualities that show this. For example, it is a reality based situation that shows a deeper meaning and Gabriel Marquez does a perfect job of making a real life situation into something magical. In Gabriel Marquez s A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings it shows readers that many appearances are often mislead. Throughout this story readers are told how dark and gloomy the weather has been. The author uses Imagery to put a clear picture in the reader s mind. For example, Gabriel says The world has been sad since Tuesday. (Marquez, 431) Marquez... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He is not just an angel but someone that stands out and is different than the rest if the crowd. Readers are shown just how much people are obsessed with the unexplainable events that happen in life. The crowd shows such careless behavior. For example, Marquez says ...they found the whole neighborhood in front of the chicken coop having fun with the angel, without the slightest reverence, tossing him things to eat through the openings in the wires as if he weren t a supernatural creature but circus animal . (Marquez, 432) The villagers were throwing stuff at him and burning him with branding iron. They showed him no respect because of the way he looked. When readers think of an angel the think of white, beautiful attractive wings and helpful soul. Because his is no viewed as these things he is treated like an animal. As the story proceeds the people of the town lose interest and realize the old man is nothing like a angel. In real life people experience this situation every day. For example, celebrities, everyone is amused and needs are met until the song is over played or the movie is a couple of weeks old. When the carnival arrives in town, everyone hoses interest in the angel and turns to the giant tarantula ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. comparing emerson and dickinson Essay Ralph Waldo Emerson and Emily Dickinson were two of America s most intriguing poets. They were both drawn to the transcendentalist movement which taught unison of creation, the righteousness of humanity, and the preeminence of insight over logic and reason (Woodberry 113). This movement also taught them to reject religious authority(Sherwood 66). By this declination of authority, they were able to express their individuality. It is through their acceptance of this individuality that will illustrate their ambiguities in their faith in God. Emily Dickinson was an intricate and contradictory figure who moved from a reverent faith in God to a deep suspicion of him in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the first stanza she simply states that just because one can t see or have never seen something doesn t mean that it can t or doesn t exist. That being said, Dickinson then says that she has not ever spoken with God or visited heaven in the third pair of lines (Dickinson 1273). The final set of lines says that she is certain of the spot (Dickinson 1273). This second stanza clearly confirms that she is confident of her place in heaven. Dickinson believes in all of these things even though she hasn t observed any of them. (Benfey 25) This particular poem shows of her assurance of God and heaven. On the contrary, the poem I know That He Exists distinctly shows her uncertainty between her belief and disbelief in God. (Dickinson 1262) The first stanza begins with a relatively strong declaration of her faith. She knows that there is a God and that in some way, for whatever reasons, he has hid himself from our gross eye (Dickinson 1262). In the second stanza, she insinuates that he plays game with us just to gain our admiration for him. She starts to be troubled by this hide and seek game in the third stanza. (Ferlazzo 32) She implies, between the middle of the third stanza and all of the fourth that if there is no sort of deliverance after death, God would have just played a really wicked joke on all of us. • 6. Siddhartha, By Hermann Hesse Siddhartha Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse was a very interesting book to read. I found it to be a very interesting way for people, like myself, who are not Hindus, and who do not live in India to learn about the Indian and Hindu culture and religion without being there physically to experience it. This book is about a boy, Siddhartha, who is probably somewhere in his teenage years. He lives with his father, who is a Brahmin, they live together in ancient India. As in many cases, there is an expectation that Siddhartha is going to follow in his father s footsteps. If this were to take place then Siddhartha would become a Brahmin and do the same types of things in his life that his father has done in his. I particularly liked this book because I felt as though it was something that many people can relate to. While a lot of people, at least not in the United States, do not have the expectation of becoming a Brahmin, there are a lot of children and young adults who are expected to follow what their parents have done in their life, or what if not following their exact path then they are expected to follow the path that their parents have chosen for them. Going back to the book, Siddhartha continues to struggle after he and his friend hang out together, and everything is perfect, but then, all of a sudden he doesn t feel anything, he isn t happy, which concerned him because it was something that would normally make him and other people very happy. • 7. Michelangelo Visual Description I stood there standing on the fresh, cut wooden boards thinking of what the picture would look like on the canvas. With a seemingly magnificent idea, I picked the gold handled paint brush off of the stool, grabbed the pallet, and dipped the smooth bristles of the paintbrush into the thick orange pigment on the palate and made my first stroke of paint on the once blank canvas. Upon creating that first stroke, I smelt the unique, fresh paint on the canvas waiting to become a physical picture. This is going to be a good one, I thought in my head. • 8. The Success Of The Buffalo Bills Essay Everyone has a specific skill set that they are good at. Some people are good with numbers, others have a gift for writing. The same is true in sports. The Buffalo Bills are very good at losing and disappointing their fans, while the Patriots are fantastic at bending the rules and winning Super Bowls. In baseball, each team is built around a specific group of players in order to create the best possible chance to win the World Series. Some of the greatest players have created seemingly unbreakable statistics. Joe DiMaggio had a hit in fifty six consecutive games. Barry Bonds hit seven hundred and sixty two home runs over his twenty two year career. Statistics like these only come about once in a generation. Teams are comprised of various talent. Some are like Miguel Cabrera. Cabrera always has a batting averageover .300 with at least 25 home runs. These types of players are considered great hitters. Other s, like Stephan Drew, get a hit less than 20% of the time they have an at bat. Players similar to Drew s skill set have a job because they are very good at defense and their value on defense out ways their value on offense to their specific team. Baseball is sport rich with statistics. Almost anything one can come up with, has a statistic. In the last ten years alone, top executives, such as Billy Bean, have constructed teams based on advanced statistics and have been fairly successful, like the 2002 Oakland Athletics. He says that he does not remember exactly when the order came or who gave it because it had been hard to keep track of the time with everything happening. And from this moment on, and based on the comment that Sheirer gave, people came out with two frames that they use to interpret this event. The first one is the frame that building 7 was actually burning because it was close by to the collapsing twin towers and something might ve happened to sit the building on fire for more than 5 hours which caused the building to collapse. The other point of view, or frame, is that the collapse of building 7 was a conspiracy from the government of USA. The Character of Hamlet in William Shakespeare s Play Some critics have stated that the appeal of Hamlet to the audience is his many human weaknesses, the most notable being his indecision. His deliberations and procrastinations are particularly high lighted when he is faced with the task of revenge. The law and Christianity, around the early seventeenth century, were clear in condemning personal revenge as an attempt by man to arrogate the prerogatives of God. Hamlet s contradicting feelings toward avenging his father and avoiding breaking the law and going against Christianity were most likely felt by the Elizabethan audience also, which would have been made up of many Christians, namely, ... Hamlet enters to find Claudius with his back to Hamlet. Tension is created within the audience, as the scene is portrayed as if the king is preparing for his execution, on his knees, praying, although he is unaware Hamlet is behind him with his sword drawn. It is the perfect opportunity, yet Hamlet deliberates. The scene results in an anti climax, with Shakespeare creating drama with his will he, won t he tactic with regards to Hamlet. I believe this is a prominent example of Hamlet s inability to take action. Hamlet never receives any indication from Claudius that he regrets the death of Hamlet s father, and by killing him, would send him to heaven. I think it most likely that Hamlet creates his own doubts, or excuses, as to delay with the revenge of his father. It could also be possible that Hamlet is fearful of the consequences of his act of vengeance. In Antonio s revenge and The revenger s tragedy , the criminal is also the ruler. Their husband, father, and brothers were sent off to war. Many companies around the United States were left with production needs and little to no employees to do the job. In a time period, where women are expected to be confident and independent, they had to also realize they had little to no power in society. They had societal rules that they must stay at home to cook, clean, and care for the children. With the men who were prominent in their lives coming and going from war. These factors caused the birth of a new era. This is the era where women were emerging. Women were changing by being more independent sexually and expressing their emotions through music, poetry, and movies. One important theme of the women of the 1920 s that connects various aspects of the women is their sexuality. The women before those who became empowered in the 1920 s would never open up about their sexuality. The women prior to the 1920 s had an image of modesty and were viewed to be married to only one man. In 1920, the women began to express their sexual desires freely. Singers like Bessie Smith could paint a picture and bring anything to life with just her voice. One example by Bessie Smith I m Wild About That Thing . In this song, Bessie Smith sings of how she loves her man and how happy he makes her. In her lyrics she says Do it easy honey don t get ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Compare And Contrast Virginia And Massachusetts Bay Colonies English colonization of the New World began in the late 16th century with several unsuccessful attempts. However, this changed with the settlement of Jamestown, and later with the settlement of Massachusetts Bay. Despite these settlements having similarities, they were fundamentally different in most respects. From the areas where they settled, the reasoning behind each settlement, their development, and the various problems and conflicts that arose in each. A uniqueness can be seen between Virginiaand MassachusettsBay settlements beginning with the history of each. The history of these two settlements begins in the early 17th century when King James I issued a charter between two rival groups of merchants, the London Company (later renamed the Virginia Company) whose interests were in colonizing Virginia, and the Plymouth Company who had interests further north (Brinkley, 23). The charter gave the London Company exclusive rights to colonize the south, and the Plymouth Company received the same rights for the north (Brinkley, 23 24). It is through the efforts of these companies that the first permanent English colonies would be established (Brinkley, 24). Once the charter had been issued the London Company quickly began to set up an expedition for the colonization of Virginia, and on December 6, 1606, 144 men aboard three ships: the Godspeed, the Discovery, and the Susan Constant set sail for the New World (Brinkley, 26). • 30. The Giants Best And Worst Wild Card Ranking the Giants best and worst wild card matchups 7:00 AM ET Jordan Raanan ESPN Staff Writer Facebook Twitter Facebook Messenger Pinterest Email print comment Playoff opponents are like ice cream flavors. They re all good, each with its own distinctive strength. The New York Giants have four potential opponents in the wild card round of the postseason: the Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, Atlanta Falcons and Seattle Seahawks. All are dangerous. All are winning teams deserving of their playoff position. Eli Manning will take whatever playoff matchup the Giants get, but he d be wise to root for something other than a visit to Seattle. Al Bello/Getty Images The Giants already have faced two, beating the Lions at MetLife Stadium late in the season and losing to the Packers at Lambeau Field early in the season. That factors into the equation of best and worst matchups for Big Blue in the opening round of the postseason. So should the current form of each team and its health. Locked in as the No. 5 seed, the Giants are going to play the division winner with the worst record in the NFC on the road. That doesn t necessarily mean they will play the worst division winner or the opponent that gives them the best chance to win. Matchups are everything this time of year. Some stadiums are more hostile environments than others. Seattle falls into that category. Here is how I rank the potential opponents, in terms of which team the Giants should most want to face in their first ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Ronald Reagan Bibliography Essay Ronald Reagan Ronald Reagan came from humble beginnings. He was born on February 6, 1911 in the town of Tampico, Illinois. His parents were Jack and Nelle. Jack Reagan was an unsuccessful salesman who was also known as an alcoholic. His mother, Nelle Wilson Reagon was a devout farmwoman who raised Ronald and his older brother, Neil, in the Disciples of Christ Church despite their father s Catholicism. The family moved frequently, sometimes in response to new job opportunities, sometimes after Jack had been fired because of his drinking. In 1920 they settled in Dixon, Illinois, where Jack became the proprietor and part owner of a shoe store (Reeves 2). Ronald Reagan was an outgoing, optimistic, popular, and apparently happy youth ... Even decades later, he liked to talk about coming back from the war, like other veterans, eager to take up family life again (a life that in his case had hardly been interrupted) (D Souza 11). Reagan s postwar acting career never regained the momentum it had enjoyed in the early 1940s. He had some occasional successes (among them The Hasty Heart in 1949), but he found himself working more often now in minor roles or minor films. Jane Wyman s career, in the meantime, was flourishing, and her absorption with it contributed to what were already growing tensions within the marriage. The couple divorced in 1948 (Reagan 4). As his career and his marriage languished, Reagan had begun to become active in politics. His first vehicle was the Screen Actors Guild (SAG), the film actors union. Reagan had been active in SAG since his first months in Hollywood, and his involvement grew with his marriage to Wyman, who was also an important figure in the organization. In 1946, he chaired a union strike committee and demonstrated an energy and a toughness that his SAG ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Mass Shootings Over this past decade, an increase in mass shootings has raised a concern in the control of firearms. With the ever growing number of shootings, the death rate due to firearms has intensified. Thus, the controversy over gun control has caused society to push the government to re evaluate the regulation of firearms in the United States. Hence, in order to keep and provide a safe environment for American citizens without fear of death by firearm, the government should regulate firearms. According to the Second Amendment, it states, A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed (Lund and Winkler). With that said, most civilians do not possess firearms... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The comparison between the two states show how drastically gun regulations can influence the death rate by firearms. In the state of Wyoming, firearm sellers are not required to check gun owner backgrounds. Therefore, gun owners are not obligated to register their guns or have a gun license. That is to say, there is little to no gun regulations in Wyoming giving it the number one spot in the highest gun related deaths. On the other hand, Massachusetts has the laws that regulate the possession, sale, and use of firearms and ammunition. Once the applicant has sent in their application for a guns permit or license, the applicant must wait 40 days in which the authorities may deny or grant them permission to carry a firearm ( Concealed Weapons ). As stated by the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence, Massachusetts is a may issue state for the issuance of licenses to carry firearms, meaning that the local licensing authority has discretion in determining whether or not to issue either license type to an applicant ( Concealed Weapons ). In this case, Massachusetts is significantly stricter than Wyoming and any other state in the country. Thus, with its strict gun laws, it has the lowest gun related death rate and is ranked as fifty on the charts of gun related deaths (Hendry 2015). This further justifies ...
