This document analyzes social media data and sales performance for a new powdered drink product launched by an iconic beverage brand during a recession. Early analysis found a strong predictive relationship between social media engagement levels and sales. Deeper analysis revealed that emphasizing the product's authentic taste resembling the parent brand and its convenience for taking to the office significantly increased social media engagement and drove higher sales conversions. Despite the recession, these marketing adjustments helped lift social engagement and sales above norms, resulting in the most successful new product launch in ten years for the brand.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. 2. Zip Powered Drinks
• Zip Powder (fictional) is a line extension, powdered drink and a direct descendent of its
iconic parent brand. Zip Powder was launched in 2008, during the depths of the recession.
• We tracked early sales performance versus the Semantic Engagement Index (SEITM) from
social media channels and found a highly predictive pattern.
• Deep analysis of the content of early consumers found some surprising things
– The fact that the powdered version closely mirrored the authentic taste of the parent brand was
found to be a highly engaging quality driving consumer engagement and sales conversions. This
insight changed the media messaging in the second half of the year to more emphasize the brand
heritage, along with the innovation.
– The convenient form and authentic taste of the product made it a favorite to take to the office.
– Additional analysis also discovered much of the word-of-mouth influence affecting sales
conversions for the product came through posted and re-tweeted Twitter posts. This was a very
helpful insight directing social media efforts.
• Despite the recession, some of these marketing course corrections helped lift the SEITM
above product norm levels and resulted in the most successful new product launch in ten
years.
