Obesity is defined as having a BMI of 30 or higher and can increase risks during pregnancy such as gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, and pregnancy loss. BMI is calculated based on height and weight and determines if a person's weight is normal, overweight, or obese. Maintaining a healthy weight and lifestyle during pregnancy through regular checkups, exercising most days, and avoiding dieting can help lead to a healthier pregnancy and baby.
