6. Consequences of elevated level in adults
The BMI ranges are based on the relationship between body weight and
disease and death.[26] Overweight and obese individuals are at an
increased risk for the following diseases:[27]
• Coronary artery disease
• Dyslipidemia
• Type 2 diabetes

while a BMI equal to or greater than 25 is considered overweight and
above 30 is considered obese.[12] These ranges of BMI values are valid
only as statistical categories.
