IBM Endpoint Manger for Power Management (Overview)Kimber Spradlin
Save $20-$50 per computer per year by automatically putting devices in lower-power states when they are unused. Much more granular policy setting, "Green" reports, savings models, client-side dashboard, coverage for PCs and Macs, and continuous enforcement set this solution apart from relying on the built-in power management settings.

How to Balance System Speed and Risk for Multi-Platform InnovationClaudia Ring
Walking the line between speed to market and stability of mission-critical systems is something many enterprise organizations deal with on a consistent basis, especially when planning a major application release. Multi-speed IT is a term that connotes the difficulty of balancing speed and risk for these enterprises, but also one that inherently defines a solution; moving at different speeds depending on system requirements. While moving at various speeds based on whether you are releasing changes for Systems of Engagement (SOE) or Systems of Record (SOR) can seem negative, it can be used as a stepping stone towards complete enterprise agility and iterative improvements in release management across both types of systems. Join Rosalind Radcliffe, IBM Distinguished Engineer and Chief Architect for DevOps, as she discusses;
How to begin incorporating continuous testing into the release cycle for both SOE's and SOR's
How deployment automation can be incorporated into multi-platform deployments
How earlier, more frequent testing and automated deployments can help stabilize risk while increasing speed
Customer success with using these testing and deployment solutions to achieve agility across both SOE's and SOR's

Graspan: A Big Data System for Big Code AnalysisAftab Hussain
We built a disk-based parallel graph system, Graspan, that uses a novel edge-pair centric computation model to compute dynamic transitive closures on very large program graphs.
We implement context-sensitive pointer/alias and dataflow analyses on Graspan. An evaluation of these analyses on large codebases such as Linux shows that their Graspan implementations scale to millions of lines of code and are much simpler than their original implementations.
These analyses were used to augment the existing checkers; these augmented checkers found 132 new NULL pointer bugs and 1308 unnecessary NULL tests in Linux 4.4.0-rc5, PostgreSQL 8.3.9, and Apache httpd 2.2.18.

Need for Speed: Removing speed bumps from your Symfony projects ⚡️Łukasz Chruściel
No one wants their application to drag like a car stuck in the slow lane! Yet it’s all too common to encounter bumpy, pothole-filled solutions that slow the speed of any application. Symfony apps are not an exception.
In this talk, I will take you for a spin around the performance racetrack. We’ll explore common pitfalls - those hidden potholes on your application that can cause unexpected slowdowns. Learn how to spot these performance bumps early, and more importantly, how to navigate around them to keep your application running at top speed.
We will focus in particular on tuning your engine at the application level, making the right adjustments to ensure that your system responds like a well-oiled, high-performance race car.

8. Issues to address when mobilizing systems of record
– Optimizing, modernizing, and diagnosing problems in highly structured mainframe environment to
handle new agile workloads like web and mobile
1. “Capacity issues” - Available mainframe capacity is limited, and may be unable to cope with the
increased and dynamically changing workload that new web/mobile interfaces will generate
2. “Modernize” - Our Java development teams don't understand enough about our Systems of Record to
extend and enhance them for web and mobile
3. “Diagnose problems” - The Operations and Development teams struggle to respond quickly to
application and system problems today and will be unable to cope when the new mobile/web apps
come on stream
4. “Testing times” - New mobile/web apps open up some new overseas markets, but introduce new date
and time-sensitive features that need special testing
5. “Availability” - Now that we run a world-wide business, it's essential that our systems are available
24/7/365
6. “Recovery” - The business is now so dependent on new mobile and web apps that it may be in danger
if we can't recover from failures quickly
7. “Distributed development” With Java web developers and mainframe teams in different locations,
keeping things running smoothly is challenging

9. Tools are more important than ever
– According to IBM’s The Global CEOs Study 2013, CEOs cited technology
as the number-one factor they see impacting their companies … in front of
people skills, market factors and macroeconomic factors.
– Businesses which can establish software delivery as their core
competency will be able to exploit the emerging technology trends.
– Going mobile? Vanson Bourne research firm reports 62% of 520 CIOs
interviewed enabled back-end functions to support e-commence and
mobile applications – mature technology and tooling helps do this quickly
and easily.
– Mainframe systems are typically complex built on decades of incremental
development. Tools must to be agile & responsive, and support 24x7
operation with increased workload by new mobile applications
