This document summarizes research on the synthesis of nucleoside analogues using natural phosphate doped with iodine (NP/I2) as a catalyst. Several D-ribonucleosides were prepared from 1-O-acetyl-2,3,5-tri-O-benzoyl-β-D-ribofuranoside and silylated nucleobases under mild conditions using NP/I2. Yields of the desired nucleosides ranged from 35-62% depending on the nucleobase and amount of iodine used.
