Nubian culture was influenced by their neighbors, the Egyptians, from around 2000 BC to 1480 BC. While they lacked economic resources, the Nubians were artistic and sought advanced thinking. They incorporated Egyptian and other southern cultures into their own traditions, adapting practices like pyramid building on a smaller scale due to limited resources. Nubian religions included Egyptian gods like Amun and Isis as well as their own represented in human and animal forms. Women played an important role in Nubian society, unlike other cultures at the time.

2. In ancient times the Nubians was mainly influenced by the Egyptian but there were other places further south that helped in their development. In many ways, the culture of the south was easier for the Nubians to incorporate with their own. Nubian lacked the economic surplus to build on the same scale as the Egyptians. So with both their ideas and the Egyptians ideas they could build in smaller scales( for example, Nubia would continue the Egyptian tradition of building pyramids for royal tombs, creating their own pyramid style.) There are also many other examples of influence on Egyptian culture from Nubia. Women Women played an important role in nubian society Unlike the rest of the world, women in Nubia exercised significant control. Worship of the queen of all goddesses, Isis, was important. Throughout history, women were portrayed in Nubian art as the bearers of the offspring of the gods. Today, Nubian women have a much different experience. Nevertheless, Nubian women fulfill a demanding and unique series of roles.

4. Gods and goddesses originated in ancient Nubia . Gods/Godessesss Some of the Nubian gods were introduced to Egyptian religion, but many more Egyptian gods and goddesses into Nubian religion The well-known Egyptian deities revered by the Nubians were Amun, Anubis, Isis, Nut, Osiris, and Re. Nubian gods/goddesses were represented in both human and animal form. Gods also had appeared to have earthly ability. This tradition may have been the Egyptian establishment of Gebel Barkal as home of Amun. The power of having the highest of Egyptian gods in their vicinity was of course enormous for the Nubians Amun Amun was one of the most important gods, representing the sun and the forces of nature, and was worshipped by Egyptians and Nubians alike. The Nubians represented Amun as a ram with a sun disk above his head and they believed that the kings of Nubia were the son of Amun. To be a Rulers the selection was believed to be chosen by amun Beliefs Nubian religion included a belief in the afterlife, with burial practices that evolved over time. Objects needed in the next life were often buried with the dead, along with statues of Nubian gods. Since the Nubians believed in the after, they also supplied their dead with water and food.

5. There is little know about the old language of Nubia Nubia of today talks some of the old language but do not write it. It is known that Greek letters were used to write the Old Nubian Language. Documents in Old Nubian, which appears to be the ancestor of modern Central Nubian, date from the end of the 8th century to the beginning of the 14th century in an adaptation of the Coptic alphabet.

6. Nubian artists had a wide variety of raw materials to work with, and created many beautiful pieces of art. They were also talented in other things such as Bow and arrow. The Development of Pottery The ceramics from this period are the oldest surviving in the world. Ceramic objects were produced for domestic use and also for religions ceremonies. This state of art was called the A-Group culture, the Egyptians called this region Ta-Set, 'The Land of the Bow’,( the Nubians were famous archers.) Archer The Nubians were known in the ancient world for their skills of their archers. Archery skills were valued in Nubia, many warriors were buried with their bows, arrows, and quivers. In art work Gods were shown holding bows and Nubian kings and queens were shown on artifacts wearing an archer’s thumb ring. The thumb ring was an invention that protected the thumb from the tight bowstring, allowing the bow to be fully drawn. The ceramic of later people, known as the C-Group were among the most beautiful produced of Nubia.

7. Nubian pyramids were a continuation of the Egyptian tradition Nubia had far less resources to build their pyramids, so in order for the pyramids to be made the techniques of construction had to be changed Nubian pyramids were built with stepped courses of horizontally positioned stone blocks. The Nubian pyramids are far smaller than the Egyptians, in most cases a large Nubian pyramid is between 20 and 30 meters high even though the Egyptian pyramids are more grand There are more than 200 Nubian pyramids, compared to the Egyptian's 90. There are 3 main burial site in Nubia with pyramids. Al-Kurru (used for almost 100 years) Nuri (used for almost 400 years) Meroë ( used for more than 600 years). Gebel Barkal is also often attributed with Nubian pyramids the royal family were buried in pyramids. The finest pyramids are found at Meroë, these are also the newest.
