SEVEN MAGIC MARKETING TIPS FOR BUSINESS SUCCESS
This month for our feature article we are
taking a break from commercial real estate
and Miami office space to discuss market-
ing. Unless you majored in Marketing or
Advertising, most of us never learned how
to market our products and/or services.
Through my business coach, I have learned
that these seven tips are key to success-
ful business development. Although these
seven tips seem simple and obvious, the
key to these tips is implementation. Are you
implementing these seven tips on a consis-
tent basis?
MARKETING TIP #1 –
Brand Your Self as an Expert
Everyone prefers dealing with an expert. List
10 ways you can be known as an expert
in your niche and then start checking each
one off as you accomplish it. Before you
know it, you will be the expert. One of the
best ways to be seen as an expert is to be
published. Write articles, write newsletters,
write a book, write a special report, write a
press release, write a blog post - just write
and write regularly. Remember consistent
implementation is key.
MARKETING TIP #2 – Don’t be
Afraid to Think Outside the Box
Brainstorm ideas with yourself and/or oth-
ers. Most business professionals think alike
and every action step is same. I’ve noticed
that even though my peers want to try some-
thing different, when push comes to shove,
no one ever will or they do it once or twice
and then give up. Remember, if you want to
get a different result, you have to take differ-
ent actions steps. This requires thinking out-
side the box. Be willing to take risks. “Most
people give up just when they’re about to
achieve success. They quit on the one yard
line. They give up at the last minute of the
game one foot from a winning touchdown.”

MARKETING TIP #3 –
Develop a Marketing Calendar
Each November map out the next calen-
dar year by putting in all of the market-
ing steps and strategies you’re planning
on, the date(s) they will be taken, and the
desired results. This can be written on a
calendar, entered in a spreadsheet or any
other method you choose. The point is,
plan ahead and follow through! Make sure
you share this calendar with your marketing
team, administrative assistant and others
who will be integral to implementing this
marketing plan. I use a spreadsheet which
has the months down the left column and
then each marketing item along the top row.
As I complete each step, I note it on this
schedule.
MARKETING TIP #4 –
Get Help Implementing the Plan
You cannot possibly do everything yourself.
If you have help with implementing your
marketing calendar (the things you do to
market your business), you will get more
done and more efficiently. Often times, hav-
ing help implementing a marketing plan is a
major key that determines your success with
marketing!
MARKETING TIP #5 -
Follow-Up Regularly
This is a fact: 90% of business professionals
have poor follow-up. A lack of consistent
contact causes valuable relationships to
suffer, or even dwindle to the point where
somebody else is able to snatch the busi-
ness. Create a three-tiered list of your
professional network. The top-tier should
get contacted once a month. If it’s a new
relationship, you should reach out to them
via phone, email and through your market-
ing plan. The second tier consists of casual
acquaintances and people you know really
well. They get a quarterly calls and/or
emails. The third tier is people you don’t
know well and have somehow entered your
network. The third tier as well as everyone
else should be on your mass marketing list
for your newsletter, press releases, etc.
MARKETING TIP #6 - Don’t
Confuse Marketing With Sales
Before you can sell your service or product,
you must have a prospect. Before you have
a prospect, you must have a lead. Trying
to jump from stranger to client or customer
isn’t a fruitful strategy. Instead, implement a
lead generating system. Focus your efforts
entirely on generating qualified leads and
keep your pipeline full!
MARKETING TIP #7 - Don’t Give Up
Marketing
Give your marketing campaign a chance
to work. Remember it takes five to nine
times receiving a message before it kicks in.
You must continue to stay in contact. If you
don’t, your competitor will! Be patient and
commit to this new program for a minimum
of a year, but preferably 18 months to two
years.
Just remember that consistency and follow
up are key to implementing a new market-
ing strategy. So, how many of these tips are
currently in your arsenal today? November
is a great time to begin working on your
2011 business plan, so now is the time to
put these steps in motion.

Personal Note
To celebrate my 23rd wedding anniversary, my husband took me and our son to Washington,
DC for the Rally to Restore Sanity hosted by Jon Stewart of The Daily Show. We had a blast.
The rally was packed not only with hundreds of thousands of people, but also with all kinds of
hilarious signs. We spent Halloween in Georgetown which had outstanding people-watching
and we hit some great museums. The weather was fabulous with clear blue skies and nippy
temperatures. Fall was in full swing with the trees at the peak of their fall colors. It was a
great trip from start to finish.

VIEWPOINTS SEVEN MAGIC MARKETING TIPS FOR BUSINESS SUCCESS This month for our feature article we are taking a break from commercial real estate and Miami office space to discuss market- ing. Unless you majored in Marketing or Advertising, most of us never learned how to market our products and/or services. Through my business coach, I have learned that these seven tips are key to success- ful business development. Although these seven tips seem simple and obvious, the key to these tips is implementation. Are you implementing these seven tips on a consis- tent basis? MARKETING TIP #1 – Brand Your Self as an Expert Everyone prefers dealing with an expert. List 10 ways you can be known as an expert in your niche and then start checking each one off as you accomplish it. Before you know it, you will be the expert. One of the best ways to be seen as an expert is to be published. Write articles, write newsletters, write a book, write a special report, write a press release, write a blog post - just write and write regularly. Remember consistent implementation is key. MARKETING TIP #2 – Don’t be Afraid to Think Outside the Box Brainstorm ideas with yourself and/or oth- ers. Most business professionals think alike and every action step is same. I’ve noticed that even though my peers want to try some- thing different, when push comes to shove, no one ever will or they do it once or twice and then give up. Remember, if you want to get a different result, you have to take differ- ent actions steps. This requires thinking out- side the box. Be willing to take risks. “Most people give up just when they’re about to achieve success. They quit on the one yard line. They give up at the last minute of the game one foot from a winning touchdown.” Ross Perot MARKETING TIP #3 – Develop a Marketing Calendar Each November map out the next calen- dar year by putting in all of the market- ing steps and strategies you’re planning on, the date(s) they will be taken, and the desired results. This can be written on a calendar, entered in a spreadsheet or any other method you choose. The point is, plan ahead and follow through! Make sure you share this calendar with your marketing team, administrative assistant and others who will be integral to implementing this marketing plan. I use a spreadsheet which has the months down the left column and then each marketing item along the top row. As I complete each step, I note it on this schedule. MARKETING TIP #4 – Get Help Implementing the Plan You cannot possibly do everything yourself. If you have help with implementing your marketing calendar (the things you do to market your business), you will get more done and more efficiently. Often times, hav- ing help implementing a marketing plan is a major key that determines your success with marketing! MARKETING TIP #5 - Follow-Up Regularly This is a fact: 90% of business professionals have poor follow-up. A lack of consistent contact causes valuable relationships to suffer, or even dwindle to the point where somebody else is able to snatch the busi- ness. Create a three-tiered list of your professional network. The top-tier should get contacted once a month. If it’s a new relationship, you should reach out to them via phone, email and through your market- ing plan. The second tier consists of casual acquaintances and people you know really well. They get a quarterly calls and/or emails. The third tier is people you don’t know well and have somehow entered your network. The third tier as well as everyone else should be on your mass marketing list for your newsletter, press releases, etc. MARKETING TIP #6 - Don’t Confuse Marketing With Sales Before you can sell your service or product, you must have a prospect. Before you have a prospect, you must have a lead. Trying to jump from stranger to client or customer isn’t a fruitful strategy. Instead, implement a lead generating system. Focus your efforts entirely on generating qualified leads and keep your pipeline full! MARKETING TIP #7 - Don’t Give Up Marketing Give your marketing campaign a chance to work. Remember it takes five to nine times receiving a message before it kicks in. You must continue to stay in contact. If you don’t, your competitor will! Be patient and commit to this new program for a minimum of a year, but preferably 18 months to two years. Just remember that consistency and follow up are key to implementing a new market- ing strategy. So, how many of these tips are currently in your arsenal today? November is a great time to begin working on your 2011 business plan, so now is the time to put these steps in motion.

We had a blast. The rally was packed not only with hundreds of thousands of people, but also with all kinds of hilarious signs. We spent Halloween in Georgetown which had outstanding people-watching and we hit some great museums. The weather was fabulous with clear blue skies and nippy temperatures. Fall was in full swing with the trees at the peak of their fall colors. It was a great trip from start to finish.
